"I'm 41ys old I've been taking provera for a month now it stopped my bleeding the first month but then it came back in full force, and I haven't stop bleeding yet and its been a month. I was put on it because of my anemia and fibroids because my blood was low due to the lost of blood. I have been feeling very weak and bleeding heavy and having horrible pain, going back to the doctors due to the pain and bleeding I can not take the pain and I stop taking the pill."

"I took provera for 21 days to treat very heavy non stop bleeding. I am 45. At first it drastically reduced my bleeding for a few days but the bleeding continued quite heavily again until the last 4 days of being on it."

"I have been taking Provera since July 2019. I have had heavy periods for years and started a very irregular pattern in Dec 2018. The doctor put me on it to thin out my lining and correct a hormonal imbalance. I've had one period that was very light in Sept and haven't had another one. I am having a D&C for a polyp removal and am hoping I am finally done with heavy bleeding. Provera has saved my sanity."

"It’s a good medicine overall I had really heavy bleeding and got sent to the hospital and they put me on this which was 10mg for 20days and I stopped bleeding 12 days into it . But after reading some of these comments makes me so worried because once I stop it I’ll have the “break through” bleeding. So my thing is, how are you going to put someone on something for so long then when they stop taking it then it’ll come rushing again. Hmm."

"I am a 51-year-old female. In January 2008, I had a light period that lasted for 4 days and then stopped. Five days later, I started bleeding again. I had such a heavy flow with clotting that I had to change every 2 hours. After the 14th day, I began to get very weak. My mother convinced me that this was not normal and to see a gynecologist. On day 16 of this heavy bleeding, I went to the gynecologist. She told me I was going through menopause and prescribed Provera. On the next day, I was to take 20mg for 10 days. After 2 days, I stopped bleeding. On day 12, my doctor told me I needed to do this for the next 3 months and each month would get better, and it would help me through menopause. I do not feel good at all when I take the Provera."

"I am 43, and Doctor says I am perimenopausal. My progesterone is not high enough. I did not have my period since November. My doctor prescribed me Provera. Have taken for 5 days and started my period on a second day after taking the last pill. Started bleeding like a normal flow on Tuesday. Had minor cramping. Since Tuesday cramping was getting worse and worse. And today on Friday could not go to work as I am passing large blood clots. Have to change super pads every hour. Can't wait for this nightmare to stop. How long can this heavy part last? The last 24 hours were awfully heavy, losing too much blood. Should I go to emergency room? Or should I wait? My doctor said to wait it out. But I am crying, and feeling miserable."

"Provera did not work for me. When I had my last period, before the operation to get fibroids removed, I had some really heavy period bleeding, I could not leave home. I had to go to A&E where a GP prescribed Provera to me. The drug calmed the bleeding down for a few days but it never stopped it. On some days I would have a really heavy bleeding with massive clots. During 2 weeks I had to visit A&E a couple of times again trying to explain that the drug is not working. I was assured again and again that since my operation is taking place in a couple of weeks, there was no point of changing the drug. In my third week of bleeding it became extremely bad, it was pouring out non-stop for hours. I ended up in A&E again where I collapsed at the reception and was admitted to hospital. I was given an injection of Tranexamic acid that stopped the bleeding and I was prescribed Norethisterone instead which worked much better!"

"I'm a 31 year old diagnosed with PCOS. I've been having irregular periods since the age of 15. They put me on birth control which regulated them. Now older they are worried about my blood pressure and blood clots. The longest I've gone without a period is a year and a half. The last 3 months ive had spotting everyday. Dr put me on Provera 10 pills every 3 months. I got my period on the 4th day of taking pills and am now dealing with debilitating cramps, heavy bleeding and clotting bigger than quarter size. I bleed through a tampon and pad every hour. Had to leave work early today because I bled through my pants in a matter of 30 minutes. It's been like this for 3 days and is unbearable. When will it end?"

"I have been on Provera 10mg for about a month. I was initially diagnosed with uterine polyps and had a DNC done to remove the polyps and my oby prescribed provera to stop the bleeding. It stopped for maybe 5 days but then started again and was way heavier and more clotting and cramping. My oby in turn prescribed mefenamic acid in combination with the provera and it still hasn't stopped the bleeding. I've been bleeding heavily for almost a 10 days now. I've started to see a slowing in the amount of blood but its not stopping altogether. It has been about 3 months of bleeding. Next step for me is a hysterectomy. I'm 34 years old and do not want to do that. I'm hoping this will work. It hasn't so far but I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

"I always had regular periods and never took contraceptives & have no kids. I took Spironolactone for severe acne at age 49 and I had non-stop bleeding/spotting for nearly 2 months afterwards. The bleeding got worse and terrible cramps started. I have anemia and also a large fibroid. Ended up in the emergency room. Provera 10mg 3 times a day & Tranexamic acid 500mg 3 times 2 tablets were prescribed. I did not take Provera at first because I was worried, it's another hormone pill. A day later, I noticed Tranexamic only works for 8 hours and if the next dose comes late, I bled heavily again. So, I started taking Provera. Miraculously, within 3.5 days, the bleeding stopped. Side effects were reasonable: cramps, headache. I read all reviews before taking Provera and saw a 35% chance. I am glad I took the pill because it worked for me. I found a common negative review. All women stated they never had regular periods and they were on and off contraceptive pills before the irregular bleeding. I feel for all women who go through this; it is awful!"

"Worked just like the Dr. said. I had been bleeding for 5 months without stopping. Took Provera for 2 weeks, and then started bleeding very heavily. Bled for almost 2 more weeks, and have now completely stopped bleeding. Just started taking Provera again for 2nd month. It makes me a little sleepy and dizzy, but it is well worth it to get my bleeding regulated!"

"I am 23 years old and bled heavily for 7 weeks. Due to my religious beliefs I will not accept blood under any and all circumstances so I tried provera at an attempt to stop the bleeding. On the 1st pill I went from bleeding heavily to just brown spotting and after 4 days my bleeding completely stopped. I was on 10mg for 10 days. I just completed my last pill today and feel better than ever! Just happy that I'm not bleeding anymore and I can be a mom to my 8 month old daughter."

"53 yo, abnormal prolonged bleeding clots flooding. I had scans that showed thickened wall lining on uterus 14mm plus fibroids . Prescribed 10mg Provera x twice daily for 3 months. Next scan showed huge reduction down to 6mm thickness and greatly reduced size of fibroids. A success on this side of things. Not so much for the bleeding. Will be patient."

"I am 47 and this is my second time on Provera. The only side effects I have noticed are intense night sweats. I am hotter than usual. The day after my first dose, I was nauseous and had a headache like a hangover. It has happened a few other times during the 10 days. I do think that I can live with 10 days a month of Provera because I was bleeding a lot. I was stuck at home. At least now, even if I don't feel good, I can still leave home."

"My whole life I've had horrible periods. After having 3 kids my gyno finally discovered that my ovaries produce way too many eggs and my uterus has an extra thick lining. My tubes have been tied for 9 yrs. After having nightmare periods my Dr prescribed me provera. I've been on it for 2 months. The Dr said that as long as I take it, I won't have a period. Well I started a wk ago on my period again. It's been nonstop w absolutely no signs of quitting. I'm incredibly frustrated. The cramps and fatigue are more than I can handle."

"Thanks to everyone who shared. I’m 43, no history of menstrual irregularity. Missed a period in August, it arrived in early October and I’ve bled since then. Very heavy with clots. To the point I struggle with working and can’t exercise. Pelvic ultrasound normal. Doc wants me to have a hysteroscopy. I’m terrified it’s something sinister. Reading all your stories has given me hope."

"I am 22 and I had my period for 5 weeks straight so I went to the doctor and they told me I lost so much blood I had to get a blood transfusion then they put me on Provera 10mg 3 x a day for 2 months. At first it stopped the bleeding for a month but then the Provera stopped working so my Dr. switched me on birth control and that doesn't work either. I've been bleeding for a month now. I don't know what to do."

"July 4 I get my cycle. I am on it for 9 days. At this time I go to the doctor. She prescribes me provera. A day or two of taking it and the cycle is gone. A week after I finished and my cycle is back, heavier than I have ever had and has been on for 8 days. I see no signs of it leaving. I went to the doctor, all they did was prescribe me provera again. I don't want to take it because it is to bring your period. I don't need it to be brought on. I want it to go away. How long am I going to be bleeding after taking this medicine. It is like I am peeing on myself and it is frustrating. Please help. I have never had any issues with long heavy cycles before. So I don't know what is going on."

"At first I went in to get treatment for Uterine bleeding which I’ve had for over 3 weeks, I was prescribed Provera 10mg once a day for 10 days (which stopped the bleeding instantly). Soon after during my 5th day of taking the pill I started to cramp with slight bleeding. By the 3rd day into my “menstrual cycle” I started to bleed heavily, now I’m on my 7th day and there’s no sign of slowing down. Doctor told me typically will last 2 weeks and if I’m still bleeding heavy, I’ll need to see her. Doctor also said if I’m not changing no more than 2 pads per hour, it’s normal. I’m kinda irritated & scared."

"Just wanted to share my experience with Provera. I was prescribed 20mg for 30 days. I had heavy bleeding with huge clots on 4th day of taking Provera. I was bleeding for two weeks while on Provera and then it stopped. Just give this medication the time, it works."

"I started taking Provera January 7th because I had 3 different periods in the month of December, regular (change every 2-3 hrs), to light (barely noticed it (changed every 4-5 hrs), to extremely heavy with huge clots (literally changed everytime I stood up because there would be a gush of blood). I was told to take it for about 2 weeks and that I would have a period afterwards. I stopped bleeding but I got my period a couple of days before the 2 weeks were up. The side effects I've had are nausea (seriously sick to my stomach, the mere thought of food almost made me regurgitate), and my body was extremely sore and it made me tired. I still have pills and honestly not sure if I should still be taking it but I guess the pills work."

"I've had pcos since I was a teen, very irregular periods dr says I don't ovulate. High school sweet heart and I got married and we want children. It's very difficult having pcos. Dr proscribed provera to induce a period. She said it would shed the lining and would be like starting "new". Took 1 pill a day for 7 days. Took 3 days to start my period after last pill. I do not recommend this pill to anyone. I've had severe bleeding for several days and large blood clots. I soak through at least 2 super plus tampons an hour. It leaks so bad through the tampon I have to also wear pads. Pads have rubbed me raw and the baby bleeding and constant changing of tampons has made me raw from the top of my vagina to my butthole. I'm very weak and dizzy."

"Last September I went to the OB-GYN for my heavy bleeding because I am tired of taking birth control and other meds. They prescribed me with Provera in an attempt to prolong my "dry time". It seemed to work for about 2 months and then suddenly I began having issues with even heavier bleeding, passing large clots, and shorter cycles (18-21 days). This continued until March of this year, when I bled so heavily I had to be put in the hospital for an emergency D&C and had to have a blood transfusion (3 units). Now I continually have issues with hemorrhaging. The Provera made an already bad situation worse. Now it looks like I may have to pursue surgical options as a result. If you are wondering whether or not to take Provera, DON'T!!"

"I am 46 and live on the UK, i've just been put on this Provera medication today. I have had numerous blood tests and have have been told that I am on my way to menopause, kick started after having my left ovary removed due to a cyst in 2015. I have been lucky in the sense that periods weren't too bad for me growing up, but over the last couple of years they have been very irregular. Lately though, I have had quite heavy flooding and are awaiting an appointment to have an hysteroscopy. My last period finished Christmas eve and since then I have had spotting every day, sometimes a lot. Hot flushes, headaches and irratic sleeping patterns. I am taking prescribed iron tablets and vitamin D as I feel exhausted. So, today the doctor put me on Provera, 2 tablets a day. I am hoping that they will help."
