"Senior, bowel inconsistencies started a year ago. Nothing helped until Linzess 72. I take it at 4 AM, and between 2 to 3 hours later, I have the first movement followed by 3 to 4 other movements. It kind of knocks me out for the rest of the day. Lots of gas. I don't take it every day, it's a trade-off between constipation or upset."

"I have had IBS most of my life with feelings of fatigue from constipation and cramping. Tried not eating certain foods, no gluten, no dairy, but never seemed to overcome this issue. Tried every bottle for sale to help with this and seemed to make issues worse and only a temporary solution. I got a script for Linzess 145 and decided to try it out in the evening after dinner to see what would happen. I finally had a normal BM. Decided to then take it as directed in the morning on an empty stomach, it also works but will give you the squirts. Will try the evening again and morning as my schedules allow. The main thing is I'm moving my food through now and no cramping, etc. Love it so far."

"I tried to give it a chance, but it made me sicker each of the 16 days I took it for my chronic constipation/IBS. Within a half hour of taking it, I developed a headache and nausea. Following days had the same along with diarrhea and sharp belly pains. I'll stick to my natural remedies and healthier foods."

"At first, I loved it. I have had mouth ulcers and stomach pains since I was a child. I was put on this and immediately the mouth ulcers went away as did my consistent stomach pains. BUT....a few weird things occurred. The first week I was on 175, right after taking it I would get a surge of irritability, like mental irritability. I felt agitated and short-tempered out of nowhere. This stopped when I shifted down to the 72mg, but then things got weirder. I started feeling pins and needles up my neck (front), feet and hands. As if my body had been slept on, constantly. I thought it might be a pinched nerve in my back, so I went to a chiropractor. The day after my adjustment, I skipped a dose of Linzess by accident, and the pins and needles stopped. But the moment I took it again, instant pins and needles in my front neck, hands, and feet. If you google, this is not a normal side effect for this drug. BUT it is indeed a side effect, the moment I stopped taking it, the next day, pins, gone."

"I take Linzess at 11:00 PM just before I go to bed, as I usually wake up at 8:00 AM and go to the bathroom. Most people take it in the morning, but I switched to the evening because it did not work in a reasonable timeframe, and I was tired of waiting all day for it to work. Evenings work best for me, as I am an active older lady."

"I have IBS, and my doctor prescribed this as a miracle drug. Do not use this medication. I ended up in the ER. Diarrhea, blood pouring out, and because of the drug, developed colitis. It’s been four months since I stopped and still having abdominal pain and going for a colonoscopy. Before I began the Linzess, I had a routine colonoscopy, and everything was fine. Now I have gone through test after test, and the same doctor is ordering these tests. It was the Linzess, and I pray the colonoscopy doesn’t show any inflammation, which was the case after taking Linzess. I haven’t felt like myself since my hospital stay."

"I started this a week ago because I was having incredibly intense cramps and nausea every time I needed to poop. I experienced massive diarrhea about an hour after I took it. I have other digestive issues, including gastroparesis, GERD, and kidney problems, so I'm used to these issues. So, I continued to take it and deal with the fallout diarrhea. Yesterday, I had the best day I've had in months. When I took the Linzess, I didn't have the diarrhea and, in fact, had a normal day! I think this stuff might be effective if you can get past the initial diarrhea part and let it work for a week or so. I'm a little nervous about reports that it stops working after a month, but I'm going to see what happens."

"This drug has changed my life! I have dealt with chronic constipation and bloat for 30 years. Not anymore! I started taking it every day but now take as needed due to having regular BMs on my own since starting this drug. I see people stating it doesn't work for them. The trick is to drink at least 8 oz. of water with it 30 minutes before you eat. The more water, the faster/better it works. I have BMs within an hour every time. Cost. I have insurance, and the company has an online coupon code to use at the pharmacy. Regular cost is $410.00, with insurance is $150.00, and with a coupon it costs me $60.00. That's still expensive, but better than $150.00. I love this medication! Happy pooping!"

"I’ve been on this medication since November at 145 mcg, and I either have mostly watery diarrhea to where I have to run to the bathroom, and then there are days where I’m just constipated. I have rarely had any normal bowel movements since starting the medication. Not sure if I need to up it or lower the dose."

"I did not have any diarrhea when I started it, and I have been using it for 6 months. I have noticed a big difference in the last 3 months in that my stools are much smaller and softer. The biggest difference for me is pain reduction. My episodes of crippling abdominal pain have all but stopped. That has changed my life!"

"Severe diarrhea started in one hour with about 5 ounces of discharge every 2 minutes. Was not able to consume water fast enough to prevent dehydration. Diarrhea slowed after a couple of hours. Most diarrhea was over after 6 hours."

"I have been on Linzess for a while now. Its effectiveness is hit or miss. Some days it doesn't work at all; I experience five consecutive hours of diarrhea on the days it actually moves the bowels. Never, ever take this medication before going to bed! For the first time in my life, I have developed kidney stones. A new Phase IV clinical study provided data that 86% of the participants who developed kidney stones while on Linzess were women, and 67% of those who developed stones developed them within 1-6 months of taking Linzess. I am going back to Sennokot S at night. It works fine without causing kidney stones and hours of diarrhea."

"I can't believe my insurance agreed to cover this! It's $10 per pill otherwise. The 145 mcg is a high enough dosage. 290 mcg and your system will go nuts. This medicine works great and usually within 12 hours. Take it at night, not in the morning like the instructions say. Make sure you have the day off. Best way to take it: have a light dinner, wait one hour, have dessert. In one hour, you will have bloating, cramps, and gas. The cramps and bloating are normal. It means your system is moving. By the next morning (maybe sooner), the bowel movements will start. DO NOT TAKE THIS EVERY DAY! Your body will build an immunity if you do. Keep hydrated as you will lose quite a bit of water."

"I've suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for almost 30 years, and before I started taking Linzess, the only thing that helped me was Peridiem. It gave me an opportunity to visit the bathroom twice, sometimes three times a day, which meant a lot to me. But I had to take it at a certain time of the day, which was fine because I didn't have to be confined in the house. But my doctor referred Linzess to me. The only difference is this works quicker, and I can't stress hard enough how important it is to be near a restroom. I give 10 thumbs up to the makers of this medicine, it really helps me, but unfortunately, I have to return to taking my Peridiem. Linzess is too expensive!"

"How come the makers of this drug don't mention the weight gain associated with taking it? It works well for about a week, and then the bloating and weight gain sets in. More than very disappointing, and shame on them!"

"Awful medicine! I know the side effects are listed, but you might as well stay cooped up in your house for two weeks running to the bathroom. Nauseous, dizzy, and diarrhea severe, not worth it. Try natural supplement instead."

"Only medication I've ever taken that actually works like a charm. It is expensive but worth it. I've suffered with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 8 years and have never had anything to relieve my symptoms."

"Took the 290 mg dose, and in less than an hour had severe cramping and bloating! Passed a lot of foul-smelling gas, and about an hour later had explosive watery diarrhea! I will not recommend this drug, although it helped with the impaction quickly, the smell is awful, and the cramping and diarrhea is not worth it unless it’s a last resort! Try lactose medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, which works much better with fewer side effects."

"I have such severe constipation that I end up in the emergency room for it because I'm so full I can't eat or drink for days. My stomach will not growl for days because there is no room. I will go weeks with no bowel movement. I tried everything, even prescription medications, as far as them giving me the stuff you drink when you get a colonoscopy. My doctor finally gave me Linzess. I take 145 in the AM. The first two days I did have watery stools pretty quick after taking. The next few days it was hours, and I only had regular bowel movements. Every few days I do have watery stools. I am still new to the meds. So far, though, this is a miracle!!! Before, I couldn't eat, drink, leave the house, or sleep for days because of the pain."

"I am a 69-year-old female who has suffered through IBS-C for 15 years. In the past few months, the constipation became so severe that I developed an impacted bowel twice in six weeks. Following my second experience with fecal impaction, my doctor started me on the highest dose, 290 mcg, daily. After adapting to how it works (predictable movement within 2 to 3 hours), I am very pleased. Yes, there are watery stools and on occasion, a few other small discharges throughout the day, but as one review said, 'you plan for it' (as best you can). One side effect that I have not seen mentioned is that of an itchy rash. My entire midriff section has been moderately itchy since I started LINZESS. The rash has gone, but the itch remains. Overall, I am very pleased with the effective results I experience with LINZESS and the quality of life it brings."

"Oct 2012, had colectomy with anastomosis because muscle and nerves had stopped working on colon and I let it go too long because nothing helped. If only I had this a few years ago before I gave up hope. Praying it will save the small intestine that's left. As a plus, it takes the 8 pain from irritable bowel syndrome flare down to a livable life. Maximum dose. If I didn't have a fibromyalgia flare & lesions formed inside, I'd be perfect. Gives me hope & gives hope to many who were losing options. Did have to fight Blue Cross to cover, but hey realized it was cheaper than many ER visits for pain & constipation. Makes life easier. Thank you for helping me get my life back. Had almost given up."

"I tried everything. Diet, exercise, teas, fiber supplements, Miralax, Amitiza (Rx). This is the only one that has worked immediately and effectively. I am out of commission for two hours after taking which has to be on an empty stomach, so I'm only taking on weekends now. No headaches, nausea, or other ill effects like when I took Amitiza or Miralax. Hope this keeps working long term."

"I have suffered from irritable bowel syndrome for a while now, and it seemed that no matter what I took, it never helped. I would say this pill works a little too well. I take it, and exactly 2 hours later, I'm rushing to the toilet. I only take it once a week because the day I do take it, I'm on the toilet. I can't stress enough that plan a day near the toilet! Makes me feel 100 times better though."

"I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome at the age of fifteen; I've suffered with this for five years, taking laxatives, Fleet enemas, suppositories. I was recently put on Linzess to help with the pain and discomfort of it all. I have followed the directions and waited thirty minutes before eating. Linzess does work for me; however, it does cause me slight abdominal pain and diarrhea. I talked to my doctor about these side effects, and he said, 'They will subside within two weeks.' He was right; this medication has been a total life changer for me."

"Linzess has been a blessing. I’m in my 50s and have had constipation issues half my life. Later diagnosed with IBS, diverticulosis, and partial anal stenosis. My preferred regimen after a few years of using it is early morning every other day. I make sure I have a 4-hour window of uninterrupted bathroom access. The 1st bowel movement begins at an hour and 15 to 20 minutes after taking the medication. Then several more times for 3 and a half to 4 hours. Yes, it gives me diarrhea, but that’s nothing compared to the years of pain and discomfort."
