"Got Liletta on 10/13/16, and so far, so good. Before it, I couldn't have sex without pain, and now my sex life has never been better. I had cramping the day I got it, but it was gone the next morning. I did also have spotting the day of, and that has gone as well. I will update in a couple of weeks, but so far, so good."

"I had Liletta placed in February 2016. It was very painful. Heavy bleeding for two straight months. Then my period became lighter and regular. It is now October 2016. Eight months after having it placed, I found out I was six weeks pregnant with the IUD still in place. I got the IUD removed right away."

"I’ve had my Liletta in for about 8 months. I’m loving it! It hurt a bit during insertion, and I had cramps for a few weeks after, but it was nothing unbearable. No weight gain, no acne problems... it’s been great overall. The only reason it’s not a 10 is because I still get spotting every few days, which is a bit annoying. Overall, I love it. I’ve tried Depo Provera and birth control pills, which caused my breasts to ache and chronic mood swings. I 100% would recommend Liletta. I got it for free at Planned Parenthood too."

"Insertion hurt for about 5 minutes. I’ve never gotten a cramp in my life, I’m 20, so IUD insertion pain was something I could do if it meant no babies. Immediately after I got it, I felt fatigued, dizzy, and like I was having a period. There was also heavier spotting for the rest of the day. It’s now 3 days later, and there’s a little spotting, it’s so little I’m not even bothered by it. I feel a bit of irritation in my abdominal area, but it’s like period/constipation irritation. It feels like I’m on my period but without the blood. I am really fatigued, though. Hoping it’ll go away in the next 3 months, but overall, it’s not rocking the boat. If these symptoms don’t go away, I wouldn’t be upset to the point of getting it out. Didn’t think I wanted kids, but ever since I got this put in, I’ve been a little worried about the chances of infertility. Still, I’m not mad about my decision. I’ll be back in 3-6 months to review."

"Today marks 6 months with my Liletta IUD, which I love. Insertion was painful, as expected, but nothing I couldn't handle. Cramping and spotting lasted a few days after, and for the first 4 months I spotted lightly for 8-10 days, always 28 days apart, so I tracked those times as my period. Very minimal cramping aside from the early cramps due to insertion. Didn't take long for the strings to soften and curl up so my partner could not feel them during intercourse. My side effects do include weight gain and a struggle to lose it despite consistent exercise and healthy eating, dry skin, and bloating/constipation."

"I'm sure by now you've seen a thousand of the reviews about the weight gain, the mood swings, the depression, and the acne that are the hallmark of Liletta users; so I will just say that in the 9 months I've had this BC, that has all happened to me (minus the acne, thank God). I have also had the fun addition of constant nausea that reminds me of nothing so strongly as the never-ending morning sickness I had with my son, where I was constantly nibbling to soothe my upset stomach and ended up gaining 20 lbs in the first trimester alone. I can't trust my emotions because they're ping-ponging between sadness, detached depression, spontaneous bursting into tears, and normalcy. I used to be even-keeled before this thing was put in. And my OB said it was just like the Mirena.... yeah right! At least I haven't had a period to speak of since it was installed. The dose must just be too high for me."

"I had Liletta inserted in the fall of 2020 after I gave birth to my daughter. I didn’t really experience the pain that some describe, but I did spot bleed for quite some time in the beginning, and gradually my periods are gone, which was one of the main reasons I chose this birth control. However, I think this birth control has given me miserable side effects. I have lost all energy, my anxiety is 100 percent daily, and I constantly feel like something is wrong with me. I’ve gained over 50 pounds on this. For the longest time, I have been trying to figure out what’s wrong with me (I’ve always been a healthy person overall), and I’m coming to the conclusion that it’s this BC! I’m definitely making an appointment to get this removed and look at other options, this just isn’t the way of life!"

"I've had this for almost two years now, and I'm pretty sure this is why my weight gain happened. When I first got it, I spotted for almost seven months, and my period eventually stopped completely. I have been steadily gaining weight, and the doctor kept telling me it was because I turned 40. Had all blood work done with no reason for weight gain. The weight is in the stomach, chest, and back areas. I looked like an egg on toothpicks. I have gained 40 pounds. I'm heavier than I was nine months pregnant. It's horrible. Also, bloating has been a real problem. The doctor said the IUD would not cause weight gain... yeah right. Having it taken out next week. Should have done it sooner."

"Insertion of Liletta was extremely painful. I’ve not had children, but I’m 28, and this was some of the worst pain I have ever experienced. We decided to get the IUD because I have extreme cramps and cysts. Thinking this would help. Well, two months later, I have cramps every single day. Some days they are lower, some days they are on my right side, some days they are all over. Any amount of exercise sends me into extreme and extended cramping. I have gained 10 pounds, no interest in sex, or doing anything because I’m always in pain. The cramps are seriously unbearable. They went from a couple of times a day to almost all day or anytime I move around a bit. I’m having it removed today. This has been absolutely horrible."

"I had Liletta inserted in Oct. 2016 (25 at the time, no kids). The insertion process was the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced. I had severe cramps as soon as it was inserted and continued to be in extreme pain the rest of the day. My next period was only some spotting, and I have not had one since. I still experience bad cramps (not as bad as insertion day, but still painful) from time to time. I have had no weight gain or acne issues. My libido has absolutely tanked to near zero. I have almost no desire for sex, difficulty getting physically aroused, leading to painful intercourse, a lack of sensation in previously sensitive erogenous zones, and orgasms are lackluster if they happen at all. All in all, a real boyfriend pleaser (sarcasm). I'm planning on getting it out before the end of the month. As far as preventing pregnancy goes 10/10, you just can't beat that hormonal and lack of desire combo."

"I started my Liletta a week ago, and so far, so good. Haven’t experienced any crazy mood swings or any other side effects thus far. Will give another update later. I switched from Nuvaring to the contraceptive pill to this IUD."

"I've been on Liletta for 5 years. I was 24 years old, 125 lbs. I'm 5'7. I'm 29 and 160 lbs now. Issues I've personally had are - having the IUD implanted hurt real bad for me. I literally almost fainted, I felt so awful when I left. I got to my car, I balled my eyes out - heavy cramps, bleeding for the next week - bleeding with some cramps for the next 3 months straight (not super heavy, just normal) - extreme nausea at night to the point I feel like I'm going to puke but never do (it's weird). Happened when I first got the implant, has kind of dissipated now I'm at year 5, but not much - bloating, fatigue - cramps got worse for me in the last 2 years, along with my periods coming back to actually bleeding vs. spotting - sex was rough for about 6 months - sexual partners stating they can feel it or it pokes them. It got rid of my sex drive for about 8 months - so far no babies, no close calls. I will close with this: if you can take something else that isn't as invasive or hard on your body as this, I highly suggest it."

"I've had Liletta for about 2 weeks, and I've had a great experience. I didn't take pain meds for the insertion. It hurt, but you can get through it. It only takes like 2 minutes, and then it's over. I had moderate/mild cramping for about 6 hours after. I just went home and went to bed. When I woke up in the morning, I had zero pain. I had mild bleeding for 2 days, but it's hard to tell if that was from the IUD or my normal period. My insurance covered it 100%, and now I don't have to worry about birth control for 3 years! I wanted to share my experience because I feel like a disproportionate amount of people writing reviews had bad experiences. Keep that in mind and don't let the reviews scare you. IUDs are awesome!"

"Omg! I think I freaked myself out reading reviews beforehand, but omg, it did not hurt. I'm here to give a glimmer of hope. Today was insertion day. My nurse asked when my period was, and I told her it ended Monday (about a week ago). The whole procedure took maybe 7 minutes, really. I will say it was not the most comfortable because, well...someone is sticking a foreign object inside of you. I felt the T-shape open up, and she was done. I even said, 'That's it?' in disbelief. My OB told me, 'You did great, wish everyone was like you.' I say, if you get regular pap smears anyway, you'll be fine. Don't let the horror stories get in your head."

"I LOVE my IUD! It's so worth the 2 minutes of pain to have 3+ years of not worrying or taking a pill. Got mine inserted at PP, and it was free, and they were all very nice and let me lay down for 15 min afterward. I had been on the pill for a couple of years and had not had my period in a while. My first period after the IUD lasted 9 days. After that, I had a couple of days of spotting each month, and now, about 3 months later, I have no period at all. I have no skin or mood issues with this IUD and minimal bloating. This is so worth it to have no period or worries about pregnancy."

"I've just had the Liletta IUD inserted, and one of the first things on my to-do list (besides mentally recovering from the trauma) was to add my comment to the plethora of literature on the internet. I read so many terrible reviews concerning the pain, and I honestly thought that the women who posted about that either had a low pain tolerance or they were just expressing their unhappiness with the other side effects of the IUD. I am here to set you all straight... it's about 3 hours now since the trauma... and... it... was... the WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE. I don't even know how to describe it. Imagine a period cramp, except instead of being dull and spread across your lower abdomen, it's concentrated to one exact spot. Multiply by 1,000,000."

"I had Liletta inserted in the beginning of September (5ish months ago). The insertion was painful, and I almost passed out. I had severe abdominal cramps the rest of the day and night. The next day, they improved, and then I barely had any cramping pain by the third day. About 3 weeks later, I had my period, which ended up lasting for 29 days straight, but since then, I have not had any period. Also, 3 weeks after insertion, I started losing a lot of hair, maybe hormonal from suddenly stopping the combo pills and switching to an IUD. I am still shedding a lot and have dandruff now, which I never had before. I developed bad cystic acne for about 2 months, which has now improved, but my skin is not as clear as it used to be. Also, do not let them cut the string really short, as it can be uncomfortable for a partner who is well-endowed since it pokes them. My partner preferred it longer because it didn't poke as much (the string was cut on my follow-up appointment 1 month after insertion)."

"I had Liletta inserted on the 9th; it is now the 13th. I am a 27-year-old woman with no children or pregnancies. It was a painful insertion, and I did have a cold sweat after the procedure. I would not recommend working on the day of your procedure; I had the day off. I was on my period, as is procedure for IUD insertion, and it stopped about a day afterward. I am not experiencing heavy bleeding or spotting. I just had sex with my boyfriend, and he could not feel the strings or device. I am pleased with it and would recommend Liletta to friends or other women who are tired of taking pills every day. I know it is only a few days into having it, but again I am experiencing NO HEAVY BLEEDING. I am certain my period will be almost nonexistent!!!"

"I LOVE MIRENA. My doctor (who must work for Liletta) kept telling me it's the same, even though it's a 3-year FDA-approved product vs. 5-year and doesn't have labeling for heavy periods. Since my doc swore up and down that she thought it was the same as Mirena, I finally said I'll try it. It's not the same. I don't know why she forced me to use it. I'm going to a different doctor to remove this Liletta and go back to the Mirena I was happy with. If you want a Mirena, demand Mirena. The Liletta was bigger and hurt more inserting it and doesn't help my periods!!!"

"It’s been absolutely great. I had the Liletta placed almost 3 years ago and am now being told it’s good for 5 years! I spotted monthly for a while and then stopped having a monthly period altogether after about 4 or 5 months, recently began spotting on a mostly regular cycle (28 days or so), but no big deal. I will say that I do have acne, after not ever really dealing with that-even as a teenager-but it’s not anything that I can’t manage. Placement was no big deal, full disclosure, I have had one child before."

"I had Liletta put in nearly a year ago. The insertion went really well. For about 6-7 months after, I had constant spotting, but never really got my period. I also gained a TON of weight (40+ lbs) very quickly (within 2 months) with no indication of budging! After months of consistent working out and watching my diet, the weight hasn’t budged and only continued to increase. The mood swings are violent during when my period is supposed to happen, and I scheduled an appointment to have it removed this Friday! I can’t wait to get my life back after watching my self-confidence plummet."

"I am 25, been on birth control pills for 5 years and decided to try Liletta because I was tired of taking pills. I absolutely love my IUD! I wish I had gotten one years ago! I've had mine now about 3 weeks. Getting it inserted is not as bad as what everybody says it is. Yes, it hurts, yes, you cramp, but it's nothing unbearable. I have been spotting since insertion, but it keeps getting lighter and lighter. I have actually lost a few pounds since getting it inserted. I would highly recommend."

"I've had the Liletta IUD for over a year and have been very pleased with it. The insertion felt like a small pinch for 20-30 seconds and wasn't too painful. I took Advil afterward and had light spotting for 2 days. I've never had kids and was worried insertion might be more painful, but that was not the case. I wholeheartedly recommend the Liletta IUD. As a side note, I have noticed that I bloat more easily now from chewing gum, which could be a side effect of the progesterone. It hasn't bothered me too much though and is worth the effectiveness of Liletta. I also no longer have a period, which is one of my favorite parts. I got my strings cut shorter so that I can feel them, but they're not too long. Never had a partner say they can feel them either. I think it's weird others have had that experience."

"I had this Liletta birth control inserted about a week ago, and so far I have been bleeding nonstop with only a few breaks in between. Cramps are very strong here and there, but manageable too. The insertion is painful, but with deep breaths, you'll be fine. Intercourse is impossible at times because of the bleeding, however, I got a break and tried it, and my boyfriend couldn't feel the strings, so that's a plus. But I'll keep you updated with this experience."

"The insertion wasn't bad. It did hurt, but I took Tylenol to help with the pain. I've had it for about a month now. My body is still getting used to it, but it is great so far. Don't let the bad reviews stop you from getting it. Everyone's body is different."
