For Insomnia "I have been prescribed Dalmane (Flurazepam) as needed for over 40 years. I could take it 1-3 nights, and then sleep without medication for 1-3 weeks. When it was discontinued, my doctor and I tried various medications. NOTHING works like Dalmane. I am currently taking Ativan every night. Sleep quality is terrible, but going without results in no sleep. I know I'm not the only one who was forced into dependency when a safe and effective medication was removed from the market. Shame on the medical/pharmaceutical complex for putting profits way ahead of patients."

For Insomnia "I have been using Dalmane for over 30 years. It helped me with an extreme anxiety disorder and agoraphobia. Now I'm so anxious that I can barely stand it. It worked great! I have tried several others in the last few months and NOTHING helps at all. I will have to go cold turkey and am afraid of what's happening to me is only the beginning! I don't know why Roche is stopping making it, why would do this!! It's cruel!! I did not expect at 60 years old to put my heart and body through the extreme panic attacks. I am thinking about looking into a legal option for pain and suffering from Roche if they don't bring it back."

For Insomnia "I have taken Dalmane for 30 years during which time my sleep was effective, and I woke up feeling fresh and ready to tackle my day. Without it, I am like a zombie and feel anxious and unhappy. I am reading Chartwell Pharmaceuticals are making Flurazepam (Dalmane). Does anyone know if this is true? I live in the UK."

For Insomnia "I had been taking flurazepam 15 mg for about 20 years when it was suddenly unavailable. During the years I took it, I never experienced side effects or needed to increase the dosage. I was unwell for weeks when it was abruptly unavailable. I want it back asap."

For Insomnia "This medication helps me sleep very effectively, and the key word is 'helps,' not 'makes.' It is the only sleeping pill I have used that did not affect the way I felt the next day. (When I tried Restoril, it made me feel so terrible that my doctor advised me to mix the pills with coffee grounds to prevent others from taking them and throw them in the dumpster!) I really don't know what I will do now that this gentle, effective sleep aid is becoming unavailable. Never sleep, maybe."

For Insomnia "I had chronic insomnia and the doctor tried Ambien, Lunesta, and some other hypnotic which the name escapes me right now. Those drugs (for me anyway) are worthless. I would get up in the morning and find a mess in the kitchen (I live alone) and no memory of fixing food. Furthermore, I began having terrible dreams/nightmares. So the doctor tried me on Dalmane, he said it has been on the market for many years. It worked great. No 'hangover'. Slept 6 hours straight for the first time in months."

For Insomnia "I'm a 30-year-old male. I suffer from idiopathic primary insomnia. Before Dalmane, I was a wreck. I could maybe seek out 2 or 3 hours of restless sleep per night. Awful. My doctor had me on everything from Klonopin to Valium, and ALL the tricyclic antidepressants. We even tried some older drugs like Miltown and Seconal. I've tried 30 prescription sleep aids over the years. Lunesta worked quite well, but only at 12mg, four times the recommended dose! Needless to say, that would break the bank. Then we tried Dalmane. I have been taking 30mg to 60mg, an hour before bedtime for the last 5 years (combined recently) with 22.5mg of Remeron. I sleep 8-9 hours every night, without fail! Any hangover is minor and actually gives me a welcome sense of calm. It's CHEAP, too!"

For Insomnia "I had taken Dalmane for 35 years before it was discontinued last year. I live in the UK and my pharmacist was able to order it from the middle of January this year (2024), and I'm now having a long and restful night's sleep."

For Insomnia "Dalmane is a good medicine for insomnia because it works quickly and lasts a long time. Due to its long half-life, it also gives anxiety relief for the next day. I also notice I can go to bed easier the next night without taking another dose. It does leave a metallic taste in the mouth and can build a tolerance, but as long as you are careful, it can give restorative sleep. Also, because it is so old, this medicine is cheap for those of us paying with cash. I wouldn't recommend it long-term because of the consequences involved with long-term benzodiazepine use, but this is a sleeping pill that current manufacturers can't match."

For Insomnia "I have only been on Dalmane for a few days. Actually, I have only needed to take it like three times (not in a row) because it is so powerful that I'm actually tired in the morning, but a good kind of tired. Restoril, I would wake up between 3-4 a.m. wide awake, like I slept for 15 hours when it had only been 4 hours! I like the fact that I do not need to take it every day, which is an added benefit for me! I agree with the previous posts, it does give me a calmer effect in the mornings. I actually sleep throughout the whole night, and I do not have a 'blackout' effect that I have with other sleep medications, where I do not remember what happened during the night if I did anything... not my thing! I had no idea it was an old medication."

For Insomnia "With all benzodiazepines, you tend to build a tolerance, which is why it is only recommended for short-term insomnia treatment or to be taken as needed. I do have to say that when used as needed, this medicine hit me like a Mack truck and I would sleep 8 hours plus. My anxiety and insomnia both improved significantly. No hallucinations or late-night grazing like with those so-called 'non-addictive' 'non-narcotic' sleep aids. Word of advice: make sure you take it if you can sleep for at least 8 hours and set multiple alarms."

For Insomnia "I was on Dalmane for over 25 years. I have had always problems sleeping. My husband was transferred many times, and I went to different doctors for my meds and Dalmane for sleeping. Not one doctor warned me that if I ever stopped taking it, I would have a problem. It was fine... helped me sleep! Then it all stopped! It was discontinued! Wow! I was NEVER so sick in my life. Shaking, nausea, thinking I was in a panic, trouble driving. Horrible! Dalmane could not be found! The pharmacist recommended Temazepam. It only let me sleep 3 or 4 hours! Still the shaking and finally had to try .05 Xanax during the day. After two years, I am still not right!"

For Insomnia "I had a hysterectomy and was suffering from no sleep at all. My doctor gave me Ambien, and it did work for the first few nights, then sleepless nights returned. A few days ago, he gave me Dalmane, and I couldn't be happier. I am sleeping all night now. However, I do have a slight headache in the morning."

For Insomnia "I took Dalmane at 60 mg for 30 years after a neck injury where I lost 4 disks in my neck. At 60 years old, my doctor would no longer prescribe it, so I had to cold turkey off of it. It took another four years of trial and error for me to try Ambien 12.5 CR. It was four years before any meaningful sleep came back into my life."

For Insomnia "Yes - Dalmane is very effective at putting and keeping you asleep. I was prescribed it for four years before the dangers were known. By blocking neuron transmissions, mine were not communicating the next day. I had a career that required thought, concentration, and problem solving. I no longer could do any of that. My professional, domestic, social, and economic life fell apart insidiously over that time. I became agoraphobic and withdrawn, dependent on others who told me what to do. Recovery of my own mind took well over five years, many of them in a spin. I had been made very, very ill indeed."

For Insomnia "CORE Med for sleep: This combo works for me, and I've tried everything! Dalmane (30 mg), Gabapentin (600 mg), and 15 mg Remeron (very careful re: weight gain side effect, gained 20 lbs in short order), dramatically increases your appetite for carbs and sugars and overall appetite (what they don't tell you is that they give this to patients in the hospital who won't eat to increase their appetite). ***Dalmane can cause next-day drowsiness, but it disappears after a week or two."

For Insomnia "Dalmane in my experience is a "dirty" benzodiazepine like Librium. It lasts far too long and has a nasty next-day hangover. Its metabolites accumulate over time and made me fuzzy and forgetful. I wouldn't even recommend it for a short time. There's a reason it was discontinued by Roche, and only a couple generics exist. If you need a benzodiazepine sleeping aid, I would opt for a short course of temazepam or lorazepam, or even diazepam/Valium."

For Insomnia "I have taken Dalmane 15 mg since I had breast cancer in 2008. Worked great getting to sleep and staying asleep. I continued using it since I had several surgeries in the past years. This year I wanted to stop taking it. I didn't know after 4-5 weeks you are hooked on them, they are that addictive. It took me almost 3 months to wean myself off them with my doctor's help. Dropping the dose and using Benadryl on that night until I wasn't using them anymore. I would try another med if I never had to stop."

For Insomnia "I am very angry. I wish there were a way to bring a class action suit—to force Roche to bring Dalmane back. My insomnia began 47 years ago and is currently worse than any of you could imagine. Mine is depression-related. My mental fatigue is a living nightmare of stress. I go for three nights with zero sleep, then black out for two hours on the morning of the fourth day. I am seriously going to contact the Swiss headquarters of Roche. I know they will not give a damn, but at least I will be one insomniac who is desperate enough to express my disgust. The generic Flurazepam my pharmacy gives me is garbage. The situation is no different from the difference in potency between generic Diazepam and real, brand-name Valium made by Hoffmann La Roche. Yes, Valium is very addictive, but tell that to patients who have major panic attacks every week. Real Valium stops a panic attack stone cold. The shame is that the real thing now costs a fortune."

For Insomnia "I've used Dalmane for many years, but only occasionally. It does work very well. I take it about a half hour before bedtime. I tend to use it when I have something that throws my usual schedule off. I'm sure anxiety is a major factor. I've never taken it more than two nights in a row. My usual month entails taking it twice, if that, so I get a small supply at my annual physical."
