Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I'm 16 and just finished my first pack. I'm on it because I've had the worst experience with periods ever since I was 13. Periods lasting 9-16 days, heaviest bleeding I've ever seen, and cramps so bad I wouldn't be able to go to school. Since I started, I noticed a few changes in the first month- My face is more clear, I feel refreshed, and my breasts grew. Not sure if that's normal, but I'm not going to complain. But I've also got some weird experiences too- WILD mood swings, I have spotted once, but that's to be expected for the first few months. I just got to the 1st in-active pill and don't know what to expect. I hope my period lasts for how long most people are saying. Wish me luck."

"I was prescribed Taytulla for extremely painful periods. I was so scared to take it when I read all these terrible reviews. But it has been working great for me so far. I have been taking it for almost 3 months and I have had no side effects except a mild headache on and off and a little spotting. I’m sure that stuff will start to work itself out once my body gets used to it. and none of that is anything compared to what I was dealing with before hand. I would definitely recommend trying it out."

Necon 7/7/7 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "This was my first birth control and I used it for about five years before I had to switch to something because of insurance. I experienced 1-2 days of light spotting when I first started it. It eliminated all menstrual pain and cramping that I experienced before starting on a birth control pill. It also made my periods start like clock work. I did experience more pimples when I took it but nothing major. I never experienced any weight gain on it. This pill did pretty much kill my libido though."

"I was said to have an enlarged ovary, Doctor wasn't sure if it was a cyst or not but she put me on a trial of Loestrin to see if it helps with ovulation pain and painful periods. First week was a bit hard, lots of head aches and dizziness. Second week I dealt with mood changes, nausea, and cramping.. Actually started spotting which lasted seven days. Third week was nausea and indigestion. My breasts definitely hurt and have swelled up and so has my stomach, mainly the lower portion and it makes me feel bad about myself even though my weight is the same. But so far so good, almost done with my first pack. Side effects aren't crippling. Hope it stays this way"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "My doctor prescribed me loestrin to help my painful menstrual cramps and heavy periods. The first month went well; A light period, no menstrual pain and my skin started to look better. My second month, not so well. I am known to be the grounded, always positive and level headed person in my family. I became very emotional and started having really bad anxiety about 2 weeks into my second month. I started my period 9 days early; thats when I got a horrible pain in the back of my head that spread to the side and top of my head over a few days. I never get headaches. I had knots in the back of my head/ shoulders and lower back. Within days of stopping Loestrin my anxiety disappeared, My headache is going away and i'm not emotional anymore."

Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on this birth control for a little over a year now. It does help menstrual cramps by a ton, but it will take a couple months before the cycle starts becoming a rhythm. I also gained a lot of weight after starting this birth control. Nearly 10 pounds over the course of the year. It also contributes to very high mood swings and anxiety, but overall these things are worth it to stop the pain that came with regular cramps. I used to have to miss school certain days when they were bad, but now I hardly notice them."

Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have taken these pills for 1 week, but that is all it took for me to know they are NOT for me. My insurance switched me to these. These pills have so many negative effects on me! First, I am STARVING every hour or so. I can even eat a big meal and I will be starving again, and if I don't eat, I will feel weak and shaky. Second, I am bloated all the time, which is really uncomfortable! Third, towards the end of the week, I started to feel really tired for no reason even though I had a good night's sleep. I would suddenly just feel faint and I could barely keep my eyes open. Also, on the 6th day, I felt a heaviness in my chest, which cannot be good. I am going to see if I can switch back to my other ones (Gianvi). I do NOT recommend these!"

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I take birth control for severe menstrual cramps and this did the job! No cramps and very light period. HOWEVER, I was extremely emotional and drowsy all the time! I didn't feel like myself, I didn't want to be around anyone and the littlest thing pissed me off. As soon as I was on the period I felt SO different. That's when I knew I could not take it again. I also got bad acne, but it may have been due to the stress of knowing I was not feeling like myself. I only took it for one month. If you do not feel like yourself when taking it please talk to your physician. When I told mine he mentioned that this drug is known to make some patients depressed."

Microgestin 1.5/30 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I was switched to Microgestin last May after years on Yaz. I have extremely heavy bleeding/pain/fatigue that lasted 21+ days with 1 week break, then repeat. Yaz stopped my periods for years, but they started again, so I switched. Microgestin seemed like overkill, but it has stopped the bleeding and I was instructed to skip the placebos. I have gained 15 lbs that won't budge, but as I've never been overweight, dr. dismissed this concern. Mood-wise, I’ve always been laid-back but I find that it’s easier to become overwhelmed. However, I have more worry about in general so I cannot solely attribute anxiety to it. Over all, it’s doing what I need it to do, but as I continue to sort out my lady problems, I would like to back down."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have only been on this particular pill for one week now, so I cannot speak on the long-term effects of it. However, my short-term experience has been rather pleasant compared to that of other pills. I have tried a couple of different pills (Sprintec, Viorele) that the side effects (nausea/vomiting and mood swings) were unbearable. At this point, my Dr. has put me on Junel Fe, which has been surprisingly a decent experience. At the beginning of the week I had what felt like minor period cramps but nothing unbearable, I felt very bloated after eating (which is abnormal for me), minor nausea but no vomiting, and even some urinary frequency. At the end of the week, almost all of these side effects have subsided! So far, I am happy."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I'm starting my 2nd month of this birth control, so it's not quite enough time to determine if it's amazing yet or not, however the first month is usually the worst. I was on Orho Evra for almost a month, when I began experiencing horrible side effects and so my doctor switched me to Loestrin 24 Fe. The main reason I'm taking it is because I have very heavy periods that last for 7 days, which leads to extreme cramps and nausea as well as feeling faint. The first month taking this went extremely well. I didn't have any spotting, my period started as soon as I took the brown pills and ended once I took the white pill again. Side Effects: headache, nausea, moodyness, bloating, diarrhea."

Microgestin 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "By BMI I am overweight but not obese, and was tried on the patch and several different birth control pills without success. Bled more often than once per month and/or longer than 5 days/month. I was given samples of Loestrin FE 24 which worked flawlessly for 3 months, so prescription was written for Microgestin 1/20 (generic form). After 1 week of Microgestin, I was 3 *hours* late with 1 pill (1st time I have missed ever). By the time I took the late pill, breakthrough bleeding had already begun. A week later still bleeding and it has become stronger - still not as strong as a regular period had been. Going back to Loestrin FE 24, hope it works again."

"I started taking this medication as a way to regulate my hormones a bit. That in itself is another story. So, the first month I noticed a good change in the way I slept. I slept better, deeper and longer. I would wake up ready to take on the day and I felt happier. The end of the pack I never had a period. So I took a pregnancy test, negative. Then the second month I noticed a whole different effect. The second month I was exhausted. So tired that I couldn't even lift my arms. I was always out of breath and felt very weak. I still did not start my period. Also, I noticed those two months my hair was falling out drastically. It was awful! I gained about 10 lbs and had an appetite like a teenage boy. Didn't work well for my body."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I started this pill in February. Prior to that (not on any bc) I had really painful cramps during my periods and I was just sick of dealing with it. My plan was to take this and skip the sugar pills. On Junel I've had my period for 40 out of the 92 days I've taken it. Granted, I barely have cramps but this is the pits. I'm calling my doctor and maybe switching to the Depo shot or something. I'd read other reviews on here and wanted to give it time but it hasn't worked itself out. I'm good at taking it at the same time every day (and as I said, I skip the brown pills). On the other hand I've not had any mood swings on Junel. But that was never a problem for me anyway. I did have some daily nausea on the first pack. No effect on my acne."

"I started this pill a little over a month ago and I was scared because of all these reviews but till now I haven’t really been experiencing any bad side effects I’ve been moody then and there but that’s all. I started this pill to regulate my period and it did the job the first month I got my period right when I started the sugar pills I think they’re called."

"I love this pill, it works great and I never had any of the possible side effects that could occur. My period always starts on the third inactive pill and my cramps only last one day of my period than the usual five. I also love that I can manipulate when I do and don't want my period to occur. The only hiccup that I had with Norethin-Estra-Fe was that during the first month of taking it I had a 20 day period but from then on my period settled down and are always on time."

"GYN prescribed this to help control some of my symptoms caused by large fibroid (heavy bleeding, long periods). I am 42 and have never been on birth control because I do not like messing with my hormones. However, I was willing to try this because it had gotten to the point where my hormones were naturally so out of whack that controlling them this way seemed like a good option. I was near the end of my period when I started taking the pill and it did seem to shorten it by a couple days. However, 10 days into the pack ( and 8 days after finishing my last period) I began bleeding (not spotting). It has now been 6 days of continuous bleeding and today I am bleeding very heavy with very large clots."

"Been on it for two years. I was first put on it for both birth control reasons and to lessen heavy, long (5-7 day), painful periods. First couple months were hard - mood swings (crying, unreasonable anger) and my libido was no where to be found. Stayed on it and it got a lot better. No weight gain, and it is absolutely possible to lose weight on it (doesn't cause you to plateau). I have unprotected sex on this pill with my long-term partner, no pregnancies or complications, period always comes at the same time every month with a light steady flow (2-5 days). Less cramps, bloating, and blood. Sex drive is fine now. As long as I take it at the exact same time each day, it works without issue."

"I've been on Lo Loestrin FE for a little over 3 months now and I am - thankfully - going off of it. A new doctor made me go on it and it is the worst thing I have ever been on. I have not had a period since I've been on it. I get massive cramps when I'm supposed to have it but I have no flow at all. I have been very depressed since I've been on it. I'm not a depressed person normally and this has made me so depressed it's not even funny. I have horrible mood swings and my appetite increased greatly. I have also experienced digestive problems since I've been on it. Also, it's very expensive. With insurance, I paid over $75 a month and there is no generic. I really do not recommend this."

"I was prescribed this birth control for heavy bleeding and painful menstrual cramps by my primary care doctor. I hated it! I bled for a whole month--not spotting but a full period for 1 month while on this pill. I was lethargic and had no energy. I was on the brand name medication (Generess Fe) years ago and loved it but the generic was awful. I took myself off of the pill because a month of bleeding was unbearable! I would never take this medicine again."

"I was struggling with excruciating period pains for about a year. When I finally went to my OBGYN he prescribed me this birth control. I tried a lot of different oral contraceptives and most of the time I had pretty bad experiences but this one worked the best for me. I didn't have any side effects except from lite headaches and breast tenderness. My periods got SO much lighter and almost pain-free."

"My breast have gotten at least a cup size bigger which sucks because I already have big breasts. And I am also so sleepy all of the time. I don't know if my tiredness is attributed to the summer being so hot or if it's the birth control. I am also trying to lose weight and I can absolutely see that the water retention is having an effect on me.I have been skipping the brown pills because I don't want a period, but after researching I read that it is unsafe to do this longer than 3 months; and when you do finally have a period it could last for months. So I guess I'll take the brown pills this month and let myself have a period..sigh..."

"I was prescribed this for dysmenorrhea. It helped incredibly I hardly had any cramps! My nausea, vertigo, severe diarrhea was completely muted. However, I have gallbladder dyskinesia which this medicine did inflame my gall bladder a lot & I swear this medicine was the cause of my nightmares I would constantly have. Worked well for what it is made to do! I just don't think my body was a perfect match for the medicine."
