Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I started taking Loestrin Fe in June 2016 due to heavy menstrual bleeding and debilitating pain. I had gastric bypass surgery and found my periods got worse. My GYN Provider recommended this pill. The first few months were very difficult due to mood swings, daily spotting and painful cramps. There were times I wanted to stop the pill but I stayed on it. About 4-5 months later things I noticed things were a bit better. My periods are much lighter and the cramps are more tolerable. I am not layed up and overly cranky the week before my period like before. Instead of getting my period once every 2 weeks it seems to be moving towards 3-4. For reference, I am 38 not sexually active and do not have children. Hopefully things will get even better."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on Lo Loestrin Fe for about a year now. During the first week I was definitely a moody brat but since then I am a changed woman!! I used to have terrible cramping, to the point where I would pass out from the pain. Since being on this pill, I haven't had cramps or a period in months. I was hesitant at first, but it has changed my life! I didn't have any weight gain or loss or other side effects besides the mood swings. I unfortunately have to switch as it has cost me too much each month! Highly recommend!"

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "After growing up with terrible periods, some that would last up to three weeks and by that I don't just mean spotting, I finally chose to get on the pill. I really do not like the massive gain of weight in my breasts. I was a DD38 to begin with and my breasts have only grown even more being on my second month. They are EXTREMELY sensitive and I have put on 5-10 lbs which is something my doctor told me wouldn't happen. It has controlled my terrible periods but other than that the negative side effects seem to outweigh the positive. The first month was full of spotting and I constantly felt as if I were going to puke. Now on the second month my period is very under control but the weight gain in my breasts and body are two things I hate."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I went on this pill to help with heavy periods. I have gained weight, I have blurred vision and my body aches constantly. I took myself off this pill. This is my body and I know what works for me. I will have to figure out which is worse heavy cycle or side effects."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "This is absolutely the WORST birth control I have taken in my life. I switched to Junel Fe, because my previous birth control wasn't a high enough dosage to even slightly relieve my horrible periods. Not even 3 days after starting taking it I literally cry for no reason and I am very emotional and irritable. This pill turned me psycho. Do NOT recommend it at all."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I just started taking this pill 12 days ago. I just got my period, which I shouldn't get for another 12 days, with or without taking a birth control pill. This is not "spotting." I also have been WAY oversensitive and crying about things for the past few days. I was given this pill to manage my PMS emotions. It's not exactly working out."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I took this pill for the first time in college because of abnormally heavy and frequent periods. I stayed on it for about 6 months before stopping once my cycle levelled out. During this short time taking the pill I was very anxious, nervous, and depressed. I started taking the same pill again about a year ago for the same reasons. I have noticed over the last few months that I go through spats of depression and I am always anxious. I am beginning to wonder if there is a correlation between the pill and anxiety/depression. Other than that this pill has been great for me; no weight gain, no acne, and my last period was 8 months ago. Decent pill, but planning to talk to my doctor soon to look into other options."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I started loestrin 24 because I beyond PMS... It's worse since I had a baby. For example, like two weeks out of the month I get horrid back pain and feel the need to curl in a ball and cry. I also drive my bf nuts. He thinks I'm crazy. Therefore I hope this bc helps me because ortho tricyclen, lutera, among others are bad for me. I know every woman is different and I want something that works w my body. I asked the ob nurse at my gynecologist if I could have my hormone levels checked. She said there's no such thing, and peoples hormones fluctuate every day so it's no use in testing them. Is that a crock of lies? I read about people getting their levels checked, and the only thing she said was for me to get my thyroid checked. I'm very tired on it."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have severe dysmenorrhea which is painful periods. I cramp terribly to where I can barely walk. I was allergic to my last pill so I had to switch. At first Junel was great. But then I noticed I went from 164 to 174. But during that time I bled for 15 days then not at all the next month. Severe cramping. Depression. Mood swings. Migraines where I can't be around light it sound. As well as acne on my jaw line and clusters. I never get acne. Now I weigh 187. 23 pounds I gained. I'm a D1 athlete so it's not like I'm lazy. I wanted to switch but my doctors nurse practitioner said to stay on it. Best believe I'm switching ASAP."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I was prescribed this to regulate my periods, reduce my cramps, and help with my severe depression around my period. It did none of these things. I was on it for 2 months and in that time I got my period every two weeks, broke out horribly all over my face and back, gained ten pounds, and was nauseous every day. My gyno told me to try it out for 3 months but honestly the side effects were too miserable to last another month."

Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I am 35 and have had extremely random menstrual cycles for as long as I have had a period. I never know when the cycle will start, end or if it will be spotty or 5 gallons of blood. I am on the 3rd month of this Microgestin 1.5/30 and I will not be taking it anymore. The Microgestin has seemed to make my menstrual cycles right on schedule and with very little blood flow, however since week one, I have had the most painful ovarian cysts. I have never had these before and it started on week one but the last several have ruptured closer to ovulation. The first time I had to call the ambulance because I thought my appendices had burst. After 2 months, I started forming a belly that looks very similar to a baby bump, but it is not."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have always struggled with SEVERE cramps, lengthy periods, and heavy bleeding. The OB/GYN gave me a sample of Minastrin FE and it worked WONDERS: No cramps, light and short periods. I went back to the OB/GYN because of an insurance change and was prescribed Junel Fe. It started out with extreme nausea EVERY night to the point where I couldn't move or I'd gag. Then there was leg pain. My period started and it was back to the bad cramping, long periods, and heavy bleeding. Very disappointing. Thankfully, I'm being put back on Minastrin. Just because it didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you. I hope everyone has a much better experience."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "This is awesome. I have been using this for about a year and a half now. I'm currently 17 if that matters. I use this purely for controlling my heavy period. I used to get heavy and long periods. I would have to change my tampon like every couple of hours and when I got my period it was like a flood. Also I had horrible mood swings during my periods and would have crying fits and have to skip school because I was having such a horrible day. With this my life has changed! I do not get mood swings anymore which means I have a much more positive view on life. I don't get the headaches anymore. My periods only come every few months and they only last 1 day when I do get them. This is awesome."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I absolutely love this pill. I had horrible menstrual cycle throughout my 20's. I am now 34 my first BC experience was with the nuva ring which was a total fail. I do not want to have periods. My gyno said it is possible to not get your periods you just have to find a pill that is compatible with your body chemistry. I started bc pills about 2 yrs ago. I was on Amethyst, Jolessa, Lo Lo Estrin and now Junel Fe. I've been on it for 5 months now, I had breakthrough bleeding the first month for about 10 days. I only take active pills. I no longer have periods or any symptoms. I get light brown discharge (it is so light it's almost not noticeable) for about 2 days a month). I'm completely thrilled !!!!"

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "Started taking this per recommendation from my gynecologist. I was getting heavy periods every 3 weeks. I've been on this for 3 months. My period is still not regular. I get my period during week 2 of the pill pack. It's not heavy but very dark. I get terrible cramps & unbearable breast tenderness. I've gained 5 pounds and my eating habits have not changed. I take medicine for anxiety & depression. My symptoms have increased & I'm frequently cranky. My skin, however, looks wonderful! No more breakouts! When I go back to my gynecologist in July, I'm asking for something else."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been Junel 1/20 for about 5/6 months now for ovarian cysts. I have dealt with severe cramping for years and this has definitely decreased the pain. However, despite the pros there are some cons. One being my breasts hurt full time and have gotten bigger, and lots of fluid retention (especially in my lower abdomen and thighs). Don't like the feeling of being swollen everywhere, makes me so I can't fit in my clothes some of the time. I just deal with it because it's better than the cramps I was having lol"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "The first few weeks that I started taking this pill, the worst thing that happened to me was my face was a little dry but nothing a moisturizer could not fix. I am on it for my period disorders. I would have a period for 8 to 9 days, every 2 months, sometimes every 2 weeks, it was just messed up. So my doctor put me on this pill. My period is now 3 days long, I could wear a pantyliner the whole time, and be perfectly fine. The dryness on my face went away and I haven't gained any weight or something crazy of that sort."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I'm not a big fan of this pill at all. I'm on my first month and I didn't even get to the "brown" pills yet and I already have my period and it's been lasting for 4 days now. I went on this to shorten my period because my period was lasting for 15 days straight... horrible. I just hope my body will get used to it. I'm afraid I will gain weight. Overall, this pill has not yet helped me. "

Gildess Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I had my period three times the first month, two on the second and two times again on the third. While this BC did not make me gain weight, I don't believe it helped with my acne much. I called my dr after the third month and she switched me to something different... just hope this won't be as bad as this pill... expect to be on your period the whole three first months, really.."

The first two weeks I was sick couldn't eat and had extreme headaches. Now I'm very low in energy and just ready for this to be over. My doctor tells me that it's normal, I have had a heavy flow since I started this can't be normal"

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have got to just say this pill hasn't worked for me. I was given this pill because I have a small fibroid. My doctor just said let's try this and see if this works. Even though the fibroid is small it is very painful at times. I have been on this pill for about two months and boy does it have me going crazy. I haven't gained weight or had any acne problems but I have had so many extra cycles and I'm not talking about spotting. It's like when I take this pill I start my cycle all over again everyday. I have also been VERY depressed and moody which is usually not me at all. And last but certainly not least my blood pressure has been through the roof! I have decided today I am going to stop."

Junel Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "This pill has been awful. I took it for two months and decided to stop because it made me feel terrible. I originally started taking it for really bad PMS symptoms and birth control, and it was covered by my insurance. During first month, I had DEBILITATING anxiety. Some days it was so bad I had to skip class some days. I also was incredibly paranoid, especially with my boyfriend. I nearly destroyed our relationship, but luckily he's incredibly understanding so everything is fine. I did have some issues with depression previously, but it wasn't this bad before the pill and it's much better now that I'm off of it. Regardless, I'm done with the pill overall. I'm going to the fertility awareness method and natural PMS remedies."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on this pill for six months now. While obviously the general intent of the pill has been great, sex with the boyfriend and no pregnancy scares, otherwise I am not a fan of this pill. Every month since beginning, I have had two periods a month. Also, I am twenty four and had finally gotten out of the bad acne scene of my life, and this pill has brought it back. I have gained weight, but I know that is due to the fact that my boyfriend is deployed and I have found comfort in donuts. I am depressed, but again, I don't know if that's the pill, or the boyfriend gone issue."

Microgestin Fe 1/20 (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "About me: 20yo, dysmenorrhea, 30lbs overweight I have only been on this medication a short time but I feel great. In fact, next to nothing can upset me. I do wonder if some of the confusion I'm feeling is related to the medication (or perhaps just the beginning of the semester). I also notice some insomnia which again may or may not be related to the medicine. After some research though, I did notice that the canker sores that I have developed are related to the birth control. They aren't unbearable but they are certainly inconvenient. My acne is clearing up and I don't feel as hungry as I used to. I also haven't noticed a change in my sex drive but I don't have much of one to begin with so there's that."

Loestrin 24 Fe (ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone) "I have been on Loestrin 24 for a little over a month and I'm fairly happy with it. I just had my first period after switching from YAZ and am much happier with it. I have always had heavy periods with bad cramps so I got started on YAZ to help. When it didn't (it actually got worse), my Doctor switched me to Loestrin 24 and my period was really light and I had almost no cramps at all. The only complaint I have is on YAZ I gained 7-10 lbs and I was hoping after switching to another birth control I would lose those extra pounds but so far it hasn't happened."
