"Insufficient insertion instructions. The inside of the applicator came away from the outside once. It says the tablets won't fall out when you stand up, but the first three times, my cervix must have pushed it straight out. Tried using them at bedtime, only to find them on the sheet in the morning. Tried again at bedtime, only to find the tablet stuck, half-melted, to the tip of my cervix the next day. Slight stinging sensation at first; when that stops, it's probably because the tablet has fallen out. No instructions for pessary wearers; presumably, we remove the pessary before administering. The only method I haven't tried yet is putting the tablet in, followed immediately by inserting the pessary, but that would defeat the object, I imagine, leaving me dry and sore beneath. I don't care for throwaway applicators; it seems a waste of plastic not to wash and reuse them. The doctor said to stay on these for life, but I can't see the point if they won't stay in. Liquid or ointment would be better."

"I've had this prescribed by my doctor who knows I have had to use Primolut to control menorrhagia associated with perimenopause at 47 yrs. Dr. knows my gynecologist monitors endometrium thickening as a result of using Primolut as it can cause endometrial cancer. A recent ultrasound revealed normal thickening of the uterus for my age, 57. Some uterine fibroid cysts, though I am post-menopause. Ovaries are normal. My constant bladder infections and incontinence were attributed to atrophy of the vagina. And I was told initially in my 40s to use a cream on the urethra, I never did. But the infections affected my kidneys, and I started to lose my hair, and damage occurred in hair structure. So I'm tempted to use the Vagifem even if it is risky."

"I’ve been using this since my hysterectomy back in 2005 with no issues, twice a week, but in the last two months, I’ve noticed burning, which I thought was a UTI infection or bladder infection. Did three rounds of antibiotics. I saw no difference. I also think that they must’ve changed the ingredients in this hormone replacement because I’m experiencing itching, burning, and I feel like I have to pee all the time. It is so bad that I’m waking up at night with a burning sensation."

"It works great for increasing lubrication and sensation, but has caused hair loss. I have never dealt with hair loss ever, even under periods of stress. It doesn't run in my family at all. I'm in my 20s and was prescribed this for vaginal dryness. My doctor didn't want to further investigate my symptoms and simply used this as a band-aid. My self-esteem is destroyed. Am hoping for some improvement in my hair ASAP."

"I had a prolapse as I had a hysterectomy through the vagina by keyhole surgery while I had bowel surgery caused by endometriosis, which caused the walls of my womb to come down. I was only 49, but Vagifem has kept my prolapse at bay, and no more swelling. I have been on it for 21 years with no side effects and glad I have it, but it's not for everyone. Try other things that suit you, everyone is unique."

"I haven't had a UTI for nearly 2 months now, which is a huge bonus. Using these sticks twice a week with no obvious side effects so far. I used to get an infection twice a month for over 2 years, and I'm 70. Happy to keep taking this medication."

"Vagifem still works, but due to a lower dose, I have to use it more often. My doctor says this is very common with a reduced dosage. I'm very glad that she will prescribe sufficient pessaries for comfort."

"The Teva generic for Vagifem does not deploy. I have gone through as many as five cylinders trying to get one that works. The medication simply gets wedged in the top of the device and will not budge. I have tried prying it out, and it disintegrates. It simply does not work properly and is very frustrating because I had no problem with Vagifem in this regard."

"It was prescribed Vagifem for atrophic vaginitis by my gyno. At that time, I was taking Topamax for severe migraines, and I think I had a bad reaction, so I had stopped taking it. However, almost a year later, when I started losing a lot of hair (stopped Topamax), I tried this med one more time as my last resort, and it made a miracle. My hair finally stopped falling!!!!! You don’t even know how happy I was. I know that Vagifem is helping, but I don’t know how long I have to take it for? Don’t have side effects at all, my migraine is in control. My vagina is still dry, though, maybe a little better than before. I will take it for now because I don’t have a choice. I am doing more research because I don’t understand how it’s working since my estrogens are high, my progesterone is low, and my cortisol and melatonin levels are (I did a complete hormone test, which I had to pay $450), but it’s working. If I find out how my body works, I will let you know."

"I've been prescribed Vagifem 10 for dryness and vaginal itching. I am now on once a week, and I had a good 2 days with no itches. Then on Monday, I did my normal one, and now it's driving me nuts. I really didn't give it a thought that this could be the problem, not the cure. I'm not using it anymore and ringing my GP tomorrow."

"I've been using Vagifem off and on for over 20 years. I suffer from severe vaginal atrophy, pain, burning, itching, constant discomfort. Sex is impossible. I can only use it when things get really bad due to previous breast cancer. But if I could, I'd be on it all the time. I sometimes get headaches from it, but it's well worth it to me."

"Please say that Vagifem works? My vagina is so sore, and it throbs like mad! Plus, I feel terrible. I’m on antibiotics at the moment. I hope when the antibiotics finish, that I feel better. I hope all you girls don’t get these burning throbs! Soooooo bad, please help."

"Vagifem has given me total relief from all the symptoms of VA. I feel much more comfortable and glad I told my GP the problems I was having as half thought they were things I'd just have to get on with being post-menopausal, but I was referred to a gynecologist and realized my discomfort was real and could be helped. Feeling so much better :)"

"I have terrible vaginal dryness and vulval soreness since having a hysterectomy and oophorectomy for very heavy periods at age 51. This problem has gotten worse over the years, and I can no longer have sexual intercourse. The GP gave me HRT patches, which I used for a year following the hysterectomy, but they did not help. I’ve had Vagifem tablets and creams, but they have not helped either."

"Using for dryness, works well but have had ocular headaches, spotting, and dizziness, bloated and weight gain. I’m 45 peri-menopausal on desogestrel for heavy periods. Not sure Vagifem is worth the risks. I’m on two pessaries a week, will cut to once a week once and see if that helps."

"Prescribed this for vaginal atrophy and UTIs related to sex. After much hesitation, I tried this, and within a week, the vaginal irritation after sex stopped. A miracle, however, I did start to get pelvic pain, and after 8 weeks, started with irritation in my urethra. I'm taking a break from it."

"Eight years ago, when I started using it, the results were good. Have been using it on and off since then. Now, after symptoms became worse, I decided to do a 14-day treatment, but on day 10, it has made no difference. Now, not sure what route to take."

"Very poor results, 5 months and things are worse than before. Worse ever thrush, which took ages to treat. Prolapse more uncomfortable. Now trying some steroid cream to reduce inflammation from Vagifem. Packaging completely unacceptable, what a waste of plastic."

"This product has been a life-changer for me. In my late 30s (early onset menopause), I began to experience near-constant vaginal burning and pain during urination, making it almost impossible to even consider having intercourse. But after starting Vagifem, these symptoms vanished. I've been taking it three times a week for years now, and I've told my doctor to please never stop prescribing it."

"I was prescribed Vagifem after a failed smear test. The nurse couldn’t perform the smear test because she said I was very inflamed. It did hurt, so I wanted her to stop. I had no symptoms of VA until she tried to insert the speculum. I was prescribed 2 weeks of Vagifem and told to return on the 3rd week. The first week was grand, all went to plan. Insertion was fine until the first day of week 2, and oh my God, I just couldn’t get the applicator to insert fully. It was like it was hitting a brick wall, the pain was horrible. So I phoned the nurse who said that was normal and not to force it, just insert as far as possible and release the tablet. But the pain when I click the button was like I was letting off a bullet into my vagina. I could feel the tablet fire out and a sharp pain, but then the pain goes away fast. But I have lots of blood. The thought of having to do it puts me off using Vagifem. I’m not sure what’s causing the applicator to not fully insert until I see the nurse again."

"I had been using Vagifem 10 mg twice a week and had a prolapse, but it seemed to help for over 5 years. The vaginal prolapse got worse. A pessary didn't work. I went privately for a hysterectomy and vaginal repair 8 weeks ago. Was told before the operation not to use Vagifem pre-op or while recovering. I found this really helped me, so I'm now getting confirmation that I can restart using it. I'm now 74 and found it really helpful."

"The product works very well, and I'm happy with it. Just want to know, what idiot thought up the name? VAGIFEM? Like my vagina is not feminine enough? Horrible, horrible name."

"I have also been using Vagifem for post-menopausal UTIs for 7-8 years. Suddenly, I am experiencing burning discomfort. Has anyone else experienced this? Has the formula changed?"

"I started Vagifem 10 mg 7 days ago for pain and dryness down below. It has not helped, in fact, it’s made it worse: painful back and stomach, sore head. I spoke to my GP about the issues I was having and was told it can’t cause backache, etc. I’m not convinced after reading some of the reviews here, so I am not taking it anymore to see if it stops. If it is the cause of this, it’s a horrible drug. I will come back with an update. Take care, everyone."
