Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "My doctor recommended this birth control to regulate my period. I was on this for about 3 months, I gained 10+ pounds from this birth control, and cried nearly everyday about the smallest things. I was so emotional and depressed. I have taken about 5 other birth controls in the past and they have never given me any side effects like this. I strongly do not recommend."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "My experience with Yasmin has been really well. I didn't gain any weight as some people are saying they did. I had mild acne and now my face is perfectly clear, give or take a monthly pimple. One thing was that I did get VERY moody the first 2 months of taking it. I was not my usual happy self. I didn't want to be touched and everything was a problem for me. But after the 2 months, I went back to myself. I've been on it for 7 months now and I'm very happy with it."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I started using Yaz to treat my PCOS and excess facial hair growth. I always felt depressed but I kind of dealt with it, it wasn't that bad until I started taking this pill. First, I was crying every night for no reason, I had terrible headaches (something that never happened to me before ) and my anxiety and depression are at its highest, I'm having really dasrk thoughts, and I'm so scared because I think I will hurt myself or my family. And don't get me started on obsessive thoughts, they make me hate myself. Do not take this pill for any reason!"

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "This birth control Nikki has saved my life. Before I started taking it, I had severe anxiety. For over a year before it was hard for me to go anywhere and live my life. Every time I was out I would have an extreme panic attack and I would start to feel like I was lightheaded and about to pass out. I was so nervous to start this birth control because I’ve had bad side effects from others (moodiness, constant nausea). I didn’t know birth control could help with anxiety but the first two days I started taking it I could see a HUGE difference. I tried to stop taking it for the few period days and my anxiety returned so I’ve decided to skip my period days and continue taking it. I’m almost finished with my second pack and haven’t seen improvement in acne and I do have sore breasts, but no other side effects. I’m sure this will improve with time. This birth control has saved my life and made me feel normal again! I recommend for any suffering with extreme anxiety."

Loryna (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I’m really happy with this birth control now. The first 2-3 weeks were rough. The side effects made it difficult to get through the day, as I felt sick and could barely move. It may have been a bit better if I’d taken it with food; I do now and have no side effects. As for acne, since that was important to me - it’s all cleared up! I’m really happy that I’m not getting big, painful under-the-skin zits on my chin anymore. It gets 5-stars just for that. If you’re considering this pill, I recommend it. Just make sure you take it with food!"

Syeda (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I started Syeda, because I am an athlete and need a birth control to help me not put weight on. The pharmacist told me women gain weight because they think that the birth control alters their eating habits, but this hasn't altered my eating habits at all. It helped me stay at the same weight and has worked very well with my skin after just taking it for 3 months. My eating habits are very healthy, and this birth control has not put weight on me whatsoever."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I gave the Yasmin 10/10 as I started taking it for birth control and I did not become pregnant. But I want to point out some other effects Yasmin had on my body. I originally changed from Microgynon to Yasmin after a period of taking no birth control as I heard Yasmin could improve mood and gives some women a feeling of well-being, which I did experience. Yasmin also gave me slightly larger breasts and I lost about half a stone in weight. The reason I stopped taking Yasmin was because of a sudden dramatic appearance of cellulite on my thighs and bum. I am a UK size 6 and have never had cellulite before in my life (I'm 26), I have been taking Microgynon again for 2mths and the cellulite has completely vanished."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "Mood improved dramatically, PMT gone! Completely, and this was becoming a problem as I'm 40 it seemed to be getting worse. I've lost a few pounds and find it easier to keep my weight down, it must be the diuretic and no fluid retention. Bigger breasts, bit tender but better with time, I've been on it nearly 3 months now. Libido maybe even better, as I feel happier. This is by far the best pill I've been on and I didn't take the pill for years because of the effects of weight gain, and libido. I've tried Mirena twice, awful, mini pill, mini pill injection cap and coil. Finally found one that suits, now my GP won't prescribe it! I will try family planning."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "Absolutely horrendous - went from 55kg to 68 kg and I’m only 5ft2 * in a matter of 3 months. I feel terrible about myself and I can’t fit into any of my clothes it’s ruined my summer. I’ve stopped taking it today so I hope that I can get myself back to feeling good enough to go out !"

Loryna (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I was on pill Loryna for a year, and FINALLY got off of it. I was on it originally for acne, and then for the birth control aspect. I have never felt so anxious, or depressed in my life. I continued to blame my irrational emotions and physical appearance on circumstances in my life, but had no idea that this was primarily due to this prescription. I gained weight, which was really weird for me because I was a college athlete, working out 2-3 times a day. I began to develop some pain in my left breast, eventually getting an ultrasound because my doctor was concerned by some lumps that she felt. The radiologist told me that I had an extreme amount of extra breast tissue due to this prescription. I had panic attacks on a daily basis, and nightmares almost every night. I highly recommend NOT taking this. I wish someone would have warned me about everything I was about to go through."

Loryna (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I get my prescription sent to my pharmacy via Nurx. I was on Gianvi for a little over 2 years when all of a sudden my pharmacy stopped carrying it, didn’t inform me, and switched me to Loryna. I’ve been taking it for almost 2 months, and I was absolutely miserable. I have PCOS and while I was taking Gianvi, my periods only lasted maybe 3 or 4 days. While I’ve been on Loryna, my latest cycle has been 2 weeks+!!! I also gained a little bit of weight, which I’ve never had an issue with weight gain while on Gianvi. So I asked my pharmacy if I could get Gianvi elsewhere and they gave me another location to pick up from that DOES carry Gianvi. So I switched back today and am hoping it gets everything back to my “normal” again. I DO NOT recommend Loryna."

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I am going on my fifth year taking this medication. I LOVE this pill. I was prescribed Lorena by a new doctor about three years ago, and I tried that for a short time only to have the worst bleeding, abdominal pain, and headaches of my life. I went back to my doctor, got them to prescribe me Nikki again, and I’ve never looked back. This medicine has helped me so much. It has fixed my irregular cycle, and completely cured my acne. When I first started it, I do remember feeling nauseous and having headaches. But I continued on it and those symptoms went away very quickly. Like I said, it’s going to be my fifth year on this pill, and I will never take anything else."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "This birth control pill Yaz has made not recognise who I am. I was such a fun, outgoing, loveable person. I've been taking it for two months now and it has almost ruined my relationship with my boyfriend. These past two months, I have cried, been annoyed (at anything) and lashing out at everyone around me. It has made me feel like I have no control over my body or my personality, I was once so proud of. I started taking it just to regulate my period and all it has done is make me feel like garbage about my (usually confident) self, deleted my sex drive, made me aggressive, given ME 2 UTI's and dampen my mood completely."

Syeda (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "So this is my first time taking birth control and I'm 19 and I'm only starting my second week on Syeda. So far it has been very bad for me. i already have anxiety and so far it has made it 100% worse to where I feel like I'm back tracking with my mental health like I can't control it. My acne is starting to have redness and I never really had that before and I'm eating so much. I'm getting my birth control changed asap and would not recommend"

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I was taking Yaz for almost 7 years and I loved it! My weight never changed, my skin was beautiful, normal sex drive, no cramps, 3-4 days periods. In 2013 I saw some weird spots on my face, after the consultation with a doc it turned out to be Melasma (nothing dangerous but it doesn't look good) . One of the most common causes is oral birth control. It wasn't the Yaz, just birth control with higher amount of progestin. I switched to Mirena and that was the worst decision ever! Acne, mood changes, gained 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I'm going back on the pill this month and we will see how it goes, I will post about it in about 6 months."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I had a very severe stroke rom using Yasmin, it was ten years ago but has still left me seriously disabled. Ladies, if you want to use birth control, just make sure that it is progesterone only, which is much safer for you. NOT combined estrogen and progesterone like yasmin and Yaz. My neurologist, a stroke expert, gave me this information!"

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "Nikki ruined my life for 6 months. While taking Nikki I got really bad depression, would cry daily, and was in the darkest of places. My life was going well but I was miserable for no reason. After I stopped taking Nikki I felt like myself again. Crazy how a little pill can do such crazy things to your head and body."

Ocella (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "Been on this for a year and so far it's helped me lose 80lbs which anybody that knows or experiences PCOS knows it's hard as heck to lose any weight. It's helped the unwanted body hair go away for the most part and my periods come every month and are usually between 7-9 days compared to once every 4-5 months and being at least 2 weeks long before I started this birth control. The hair on my head grows fuller and faster and the facial hair is almost completely gone. I suggest this birth control to anybody that experiences PCOS or symptoms like it"

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I regret ever taking this. Took it for 7 year. Everything was great while on it, but I lost about 40% of my hair volume (telogen effluvium) and had severe cystic acne for 6 months after it. On top of that it messed with my humour. I felt angry and sad for months. It's now 1.5 years since I stopped it and even though the condition has improved I still have a long way to. I had to cut my hair short and I'm trying to fix the and scarring of the acne."

Syeda (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I was put on this because due to my PCOS. I hadn’t had a period in about 8 months and finally went to see an OB and was recommended this pill. It’s been about 2 months that I’ve been on it and overall I like it. I got my period the first month taking it and it was about 15/16 days which was expected due to me not having one for so long… however, this by far was the absolute worst period I’ve ever had, not blaming the birth control because I truly believe I had months of build-up just waiting to come out. I’m currently finishing my 2nd month and I’ve noticed a MAJOR difference in facial hair! (a symptom of PCOS) While it’s not completely gone, it has reduced so much that I am finally feeling confident without makeup. My boobs have become bigger and they are sensitive but nothing I can't deal with; also the first month on it, I had serious cravings for sweets… that has gone away for the most part. Haven’t gained or lost any weight."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I have been taking Yaz for about a year now. My skin has cleared and my periods often skip for months at a time and when they do come they are just spotting (I wanted to take Yaz to regulate my period). Over the past 6 months near the end of my packet has been something I dread, I become very emotional and depressed. I often have a hard time getting out of bed, feeling unmotivated, and have many self-deprecating thoughts. It honestly scares me. When I am not nearing the end of my pack I am myself, bubbly and energetic, and constantly moving. I will be looking for a replacement and want anyone thinking about taking Yaz to be aware of any mood changes. While there are some positive replies here, there are many negative ones and make sure you are using something that is truly benefitting you more than hurting you. Wishing everyone the best!"

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I've just started Yasmin. I was on Diane-35 last year, then stopped, but the water weight didn't seem to go away and I had cellulite, that I had never had before Diane-35. In 9 days, I've lost about 2kg. My mood seems fine so far. Have to visit bathroom more often. The best thing - I'm about a cup size up, from B to about C now. It's fantastic and I cannot wait for my boyfriend to see them! Diane-35 made me feel awkward and out-of-place, because of the sudden water weight on legs, bottom, arms, tummy, etc, but I feel so light on Yasmin. Yasmin gave me back my flat tummy (I had some bloating problems). First month in and it's been fantastic. Cannot stop looking in the mirror. "

Gianvi (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) "I hate writing bad reviews, but PLEASE DO NOT use this birth control! I have been on it over a month and bleeding non stop, having anxiety attacks all day long while at work, intrusive awful thoughts, vision feels different and blurry, feeling depressed and moody one minute the next I’m fine. will not be taking anymore pills on this brand. I was on Loryna (which they say is comparable) and it is not. I felt perfectly fine on Loryna, and figured it would be the same on Gianvi. It’s not, I don’t want this to happen to anyone else, so please girls watch out."
