For Depression "This has to be the best medicine. I replaced it with my depression bad. As I stopped taking it without Dr. consent, I honestly was very bad. Went twice to the hospital. After being put on these meds for 5 weeks, I got my life back. Never been this happy. I'm really overwhelmed writing this review. No side effects, only constipation, but settled quick. My depression is gone and the bad anxiety, for which I was taking Ativan up to 3 times a day, also gone. I'm alive again, going for morning walks every day, as I found it helped me a lot. What can I say? The best med ever. I honestly thought nothing was gonna work on my depression and anxiety. Here I am writing a review on it. 10 out of 10. Please give it a try."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Started on Clomipramine after being on SSRIs for 20 years. Weened off lexapro 40mg and started on 25mg of clomipramine. The first month has been rough, no sleep, extreme constipation, dry mouth and anxiety but 5 weeks in it’s getting easier and helping my OCD more than anything ever has. It’s also helped with my depression and irritability. I am now on 100mg 5 weeks in and things are looking better. Only side effects now are dry mouth and constipation"

For Panic Disorder "It's a wonderful med, but fully eliminating panic takes at least 6-8 months. It's not a benzo, it's going to go down day by day. Be patient. Take some benzos with it and a higher dose if possible. I'm taking 250 mg. Hope this helps someone."

For Depression "Been on it for 10 days today along with mitrazipine 30 mg, hoping this will work for me soon as I suffer from depression and anxiety, the only side effect I got was reduced appetite and anxiety, will it get better anyone please need some advice, support, thanks too early to rate it now, hoping it will work soon."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Saved my life. My OCD has always caused vulgar and aggressive intrusive thoughts, they became so potent that I nearly checked myself into an early grave. The only side effect I had when starting was that it made my sleep a bit lighter, so I woke easier. I haven’t known silence like this from my intrusive thoughts in all my life. I can breathe again."

For Depression "I've been taking SSRIs since I was 18 for MDD. All of them: Paroxetine, fluoxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, citalopram, escitalopram, and Wellbutrin and so on. Nothing worked. I'm under therapy for 5 years, nothing happened. I told my psychiatrist I'm willing to go under ECT, because I have had enough, I don't want to die, and she brought up clomipramine. In my country, it is extremely rarely prescribed, only for absolutely treatment-resistant major depression. She prescribed it to me. We started with 25mg, now we are at 150mg, and man... It changed my life. I could leave alprazolam, I sleep like a baby, and I feel like a normal human being. Taking a shower is no longer a task, it's a joy. It's making wonders. She saved me from ECT, and it works. I wish I knew about this medicine before I begged for ECT. Give it a try, give it 6 months, you will feel amazing. The only side effect is no libido, but I could not care less, I just want to live. Props to my doc."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "It’s effective in OCD, but it can cause impulsivity and sexual dysfunction. It caused weight loss. Lack of reasoning became an issue when it stopped intrusive thoughts. I am able to manage without it for over 25 years now. You need to talk more, go out more. Relaxation can also help."

"I have a sound sensitivity disorder (hyperacusis). A pharmacist recommended that I give clomipramine a try. I increased the dose slowly to 200 mg. It has been working! Most of my ear pain is gone, and I can hear loud sounds without getting worse hyperacusis. I still have some degree of sound sensitivity, but it has improved quite a bit. I am going to continue taking this drug for at least six months. I don't know if there is any research on hyperacusis and clomipramine yet, so it is definitely an off-label use. I know I am not the only one who has gotten improvements in hyperacusis from this drug... if you have hyperacusis, I urge you to give this a try and see if it works for you also."

"Clomipramine, like most if not all tricyclics, can be a useful adjunct for chronic pain conditions. At least that's been my own experience, and I've heard some others say the same. It can take a week or two to really kick in, but some people notice relief sooner. Side effects (again my own experience) can be quite heavy with the particular tricyclic, even worse than desipramine which is pretty uncomfortable. Sweating, yawning, extreme tiredness, and depression are common in the first week, then this all lifts and sleep patterns return to normal. I always take very low doses, only 12.5 - 25 mg per night."

For Panic Disorder "I am leaving this here for anyone who has been prescribed clomipramine for anxiety. Please give this drug a good try. It really works! I am only on 50mg and it helps calm down my obsessive thoughts. It also improves my mood. I take it alongside 20mg of escitalopram and the two work well together! If you have tried pregabalin for anxiety and can't tolerate it then ask your doctor if you can try clomipramine for anxiety. When I first started it I suffered from mild insomnia but now I am fine! I do have a dry mouth but other than that I have no other side effects. I take one pill at night. Please also invest in seeing a psychiatrist if you are suffering from crippling anxiety. Being treated properly can be life changing! Good luck everyone."

Anafranil (clomipramine) "This med saved my life about anxiety and panic disorder. Nothing else worked for me. For OCD, it starts to kick in after 100 mg. Don't lose hope."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I've both ADHD and OCD. I've tried fluoxetine and sertraline before, but they were not as effective as this medication. It also helped me to fall asleep without having to use other drugs. To end the intrusive thoughts problem, I had to complement the treatment with 150 mg of bupropion for the ADHD."

Anafranil (clomipramine) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After two failed SSRIs (Lexapro and Zoloft), I'm so happy I tried Anafranil. This is the best medication, and I wish doctors would prescribe this before SSRIs. I had little to no side effects when I first started taking it. I take it at night because it does cause drowsiness. I've been taking it for 3 months but felt the effects after 2 weeks! I have little to no intrusive thoughts from my OCD. There may be some days where my anxiety is not its best, but they're manageable, and I have this medication to thank. Please give this a try! It's an old medication, but it's so worth it, especially if SSRIs are not working for you!"

For Panic Disorder "Was diagnosed with anxiety, IBS & panic disorder in 2012. Over the years I've tried SSRIs (Sertraline, Citalopram), SNRIs (Venlafaxine), beta-blockers (Propranolol), but this TCA is the one I keep returning to. Virtually eliminated my IBS, overthinking and panic attacks. I've returned to it a 3rd time, and although I'm not 100% cured, it still seems to be helping. The side effects are inconvenient but manageable. Expect constipation, delayed orgasm, dry mouth & postural hypotension. Possible indigestion / reflux, but this might just be me! They don't recommend combining with alcohol, but I've always managed to enjoy a few drinks without any negative effects. If you decide to give it a go, start low and slow (25mg) and work up as needed. 50mg seems to be the sweet spot for me, but there's plenty of wiggle room (up to 250mg). I hope they continue stocking it in the UK, for those of us that seem to respond better to these older drugs."

For Panic Disorder "I had been put on 8 different antidepressants before Clomipramine - SSRIs, SNRIs, Atypical, you name it. I have severe Panic disorder (non-agoraphobic) and physical symptoms of panic that have such intensity I could hardly function - dizziness, nausea, and depersonalization being some of the worst. It got so bad I developed depression on top of Panic disorder. I also have some OCD and PMDD. This medication has me virtually symptom-free of OCD and PMDD and with very low panic symptoms. It’s worth a try if nothing has worked for you."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Just like the majority of the people here, clomipramine has saved my life. I've had OCD since I left the womb, but one summer my cortisol levels rose so high that my body thought I was having a panic attack 24/7 for 3 months. I couldn't work, I could hardly eat, I cried for hours thinking terrible thoughts. One week on clomipramine... what thoughts? It has reduced my intrusive thoughts to a minimum, and when I do have them, they don't send me into a panic. It's just a fleeting thought that's gone as soon as it started. Try it. Try it. Try it. For Panic Disorder "Had life debilitating panic attacks after my mum died. I couldn’t work or socialize and felt like I was dying too, was so awful. After a couple of weeks on this drug, I started to get my life back, and now 4 months in I feel so good. Only wish I’d been prescribed this years ago as OCD has affected me all my life. Side Effects? A few (tiredness, hot sweats, and a dry mouth - but only in the first few weeks, now all gone). Honestly, this drug has been a lifesaver."

For Sleep Paralysis "This makes my heart race but on 50mg I barely have cataplexy or sleep paralysis. I still feel pretty sleepy but I'm able to wake up WAY easier in the morning than I used to. I really have no plans of coming off of it. GIVE IT A TRY!!"

"I have PTSD, and this medication is a miracle for intrusive thoughts that plagued me 24/7 and caused horrible nightmares. At only 25 mg, it knocked out the thoughts almost immediately and gave me my life back. From the first day I started taking it, the thoughts began to retreat and were gone within days. It also did wonders for my anxiety. I was able to get off benzos, which I had assumed I would need for life. Initially, it was activating and negatively affected my sleep and appetite, but those side effects resolved rather quickly."
