Anafranil (clomipramine) "Before taking Anafranil, I had severe episodes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome diarrhea. I had anxiety which gave me diarrhea, and that fear of diarrhea gave me anxiety. It was a vicious circle. I even had an 'accident'. I was prescribed Anafranil (75mg, then I lowered the dose to 50mg) and it was definitely a life-saver. No more anxiety and no more diarrhea. I could eat everything I wanted. I was able to go on vacation, have a girlfriend, go to the mall, go to parties, have a normal teenage life, and not wonder every time if there is a bathroom near. For sure, there are some typical tricyclic antidepressant side effects, but I prefer to have them than having anxiety and diarrhea. You have to make a choice and find the right dosage for you."

Anafranil (clomipramine) "This drug was a miracle for me. I have irritable bowel syndrome, my main symptoms are urgency to poop, loose stools and chronic pain in the intestines. But I had to stop taking Anafranil because it gave me a horrible skin side effect on my testicles [genitals]. If you have Irriable bowel syndrome diarrhea you should try it."

"I have had IBS-D for 4 years, and it was gradually becoming worse and worse. Because of depression and OCD, my doctor put me on Anafranil 112,5mg. In spite of not helping my depression and OCD, it immensely helped my IBS-D. On Anafranil, I rarely have soft stools. And when I do, it is because I didn't follow the low FODMAP diet. My only complaint is that it caused me sexual dysfunction at doses higher than 37,5mg. It makes sense, as Anafranil is the antidepressant that causes the most sexual dysfunction. If you're searching for a med that can help your anxiety and IBS and doesn't cause as much sexual dysfunction, I would search for Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline."
