"I had acute mastitis. I was prescribed cephalexin, and after two days, started getting tightness in my chest, some nausea, and mild headaches. I stopped taking it. However, on the plus side, the infection went away, and I didn't have to take any more."

"My large toe on my right foot just started hurting. Throbbing pain. Then turned red and started swelling. Said it was infected and prescribed Reflex 500 mg plus Bactrim. I was afraid to take both at once but figured I had no choice. Three days have passed, and I’m feeling fine. The pain is gone from my foot, but it still looks disgusting. I have a week left of both medications to go. Can't say how well they work yet since I haven't finished the prescribed dosage. I do eat with each pill and drink plenty of water. Mostly yogurt. I have taken Bactrim and Keflex before but never together. Still a bit nervous on both!"

"I started taking cephalexin 500 mg on 12/23/20. Not even five days in, and I'm having kidney pain. I take one capsule every six hours for a spider bite. Everyone here is taking this for more serious reasons than why I am taking it. Other people are taking two a day, whereas I'm taking four a day. I don't think that's right. The swelling went down, but my kidneys are in pain."

"Infection in sutured wounds. A week after surgery, I had a large skin cancer removed from my neck and stitched up. It wasn't healing well, and was very painful and oozing pus. I was prescribed four tablets of 500 mg each, to be taken daily for five days. Within 24 hours, there was an immediate reduction in swelling and redness, and no more pus or pain. The wound is now sealing up. I haven't experienced any side effects. The capsules have a strong smell, but it is only noticeable for the few seconds it takes to put them in my mouth."

"Allergic to penicillin, so I get cephalexin for all my infections. Works like a dream for me, almost always clears up what I've got in a single course. I don't get side effects. I only have one question: Why does it smell so bad? You pop open the blister, and the stench is almost award-worthy. You've got to eat something after, or you'll burp, and the smell will repeat on you."

Cephalexin "First, my dentist prescribed amoxicillin for my tooth abscess, but when I went in for the extraction, I still had it, so he prescribed this. I lost a day's worth, they fell out of my pocket. But I took the rest, and I still feel it slightly. It had no side effects for me."

"Had a UTI but this time with a super high temperature of 104. Sent for blood test and urine test. GP decided to give me this. This is my third day, and it’s a no from me. I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth for a few days, and realized just today it’s the taste of the smell of these pills. They also started to make me vomit 1-1/2 hours after taking them. I’ve called my GP, and she has issued another type."

"Took this for a bad infection of a tooth that had gone into soft tissue. Within 2 hours of the first dose, I felt like I was dying in pain from the worst headache of my life... That says a lot for me because I suffer from migraines since the age of 12. I'm 29 and not the healthiest, so I don't know if that plays a part in how my body handles it. I am going to finish the antibiotic because I've heard it works amazingly. Hope this helps. Dosage 500 mg/4x a day for 10 days."

"Second time I have taken this. First time was 4 years ago for cellulitis, 500 mg 4 times a day for 10 days, and it worked, but I was in bed most of the time post-surgery. This week, I was on it for a possible bacterial infection of neck up. 500 mg 3 times a day for 5 days. Very tired the entire time, legs hurt to where it was hard to walk sometimes, my neuropathy got bad in my feet for one morning only. I had a little numbness near my mouth for a short time twice, had some whopper headaches, I dreamed heavily, which I don’t do. My back molar is bothering me, and I called my dentist, and they said this should clear that too. It has not. Despite these side effects, I would take it again. So, despite my side effects, I would take it again. Calling the dentist Monday!"

"I started taking cephalexin to prevent any bacterial infection before it got to any parts of my body. 500 mg 4x a day, 10 days. The underside of my right breast split, and it was a mean-looking gash. Have no idea why it happened, as I've never had any issues at all wearing my bras. And no, no underwires, and have had them for years, again, without any issues. :) Doc took a culture, and voila! I'm on pills that come out of a bottle that smells like someone trapped a fart in it. I ended up with diarrhea, at least 3 times a day, and today, I am trying out a probiotic to see if that will help in any way. Good luck to the newly prescribed. Different for everyone. :)"

"I was prescribed this for cellulitis on my leg for 5 days, 4 times a day after 2 days in the hospital on IV meds. It is doing the job, but my side effects aren't any better than the problem it's supposed to fix! It started with the skin in my buttock crack peeling, and it causes diarrhea, so the more I wipe, the more skin comes off and the more it gets irritated. It's so bad it's bleeding. Now that I'm done with the pills, my vagina is swollen, and when I wipe, the skin is also peeling there, chunks of skin on the toilet paper. I don't know how long this will last. I had yogurt every day and have started to use aloe wet wipes, but it's not any better. I will probably end up back in the hospital for this now!"

"This was prescribed for a bacterial infection with a UTI. Everything was going well until the early morning of the 3rd day. Waking up at 2 am feeling nauseous, and I was about to poop my pants at the same time. From 2 am to 6 am, my body was emptying itself out. I was finally able to contact my doctor and let them know I wouldn't be continuing this prescription. I don't want to go through this again."

"So I went to the ER because I had horrible bladder spasms, which I’ve never had. I also have interstitial cystitis. They sent a culture in, and waiting for that I am taking cephalexin. I took this yesterday and today, 4 a day, and my urgency is so bad after I pee. I don't know how long this takes to work. I called the ER to see what bacteria I had and to see if I’m on the right meds, but they are waiting on the sensitivity part to come back. These spasms and urgency are awful. :("

"I was prescribed this at 500mg per pill with Amoxicillin 875/125 Clav to treat a cat bite :( I was afraid of taking this with amox due to a terrible yeast infection back in 2019. However, to my surprise, no side effects and it took about 3 days for the swelling to go down and my finger back to normal by day 5. I will say, as a woman, be cautious when taking this. PLEASE ask your doctor to prescribe you a 150-200 mg yeast infection pill and/or BV medication. JUST IN CASE. I've read some reviews where some women have terrible itching and swelling and their OB does nothing, not even take a culture swab to check for BV or yeast."

"I took it for a UTI. Keep in mind all medications can have side effects depending on the person, and antibiotics are not an exception. That being said, cephalexin is one of the safest antibiotics for most people (unlike cipro and others in that class). It works well, and I did not notice any side effects, except maybe a bit of fatigue. Be aware but not neurotic about possible side effects is what I try to do. I have OCD and other neuropsych disorders, and they were not exacerbated. I recommend it, if not allergic or sensitive to it."

"I had a UTI that was treated with a different antibiotic (Macrobid: nitrofurantoin). That antibiotic caused a host of severe issues, including vision problems and a horribly infected throat (!). I was taken off it and put on cephalexin. It took one dose, and I knew it would work on the UTI and the throat infection. The side effects were mild (slight bad taste in mouth, loss of appetite), but nothing out of the ordinary. I also always take a probiotic each day (3-4 hours after taking the antibiotic) to avoid yeast and gastro issues."

"I'm sensitive to nitro and trimethoprim (and most other antibiotics!) so I'm given Keflex for recurring UTIs over the years. No side effects during the course, however, I have found I've had to request the course be extended by another couple of days to fully clear the infection. Whether that's just how my body reacts to it, I don't know, but it does work just fine in the end without any ill effects! I'd definitely recommend."

"16-year-old son was prescribed 1000 mg twice a day for a sinus infection. He's been sick for 4 weeks, and they thought it was mono. He's already so tired, all he wants to do is sleep. Plus, cough and congestion. Mono blood test results came back negative, so they prescribed him this super heavy dose of cephalexin for 10 days to treat a 'possible' sinus infection. I don't even know if this is good or bad for my son to take, so I'm reading reviews. I have not seen one review where they were prescribed 1000 mg twice a day. So I'm going to give my son 500 mg twice a day and see if it helps. Along with a probiotic as he has always had stomach intestinal issues. Haven't given him any yet but will keep you posted. Thank you for sharing your experiences!"

"I was prescribed 250 mg 4x per day for 10 days for a reoccurring what I thought was a yeast infection. But I haven’t read any other reviews where this had been prescribed for yeast infections. But then realized it was an antibiotic for bacterial infections, so now realize they are treating me for a bacterial infection, which is apparently just as common as yeast infections and aren't sexually transmitted either."

"Well, I had a hair follicle first, and I irritated it by putting cotton underneath bandages. Ended up with a nasty secondary bacterial infection (3 times in 2 years). Though to be honest, I still have no idea if it's hair follicle and getting a secondary infection because of bandages. Been to this private male dermatologist in the city. He said it's hair follicle, saw my medical history, and still prescribed this new-to-my-body antibiotic for secondary bacterial infection. I repeat, it was not a staph infection. I am really not happy with him. All of the above, he was unusual anyway. Well, the infection is fine, but got HORRIBLE side effects. I got rashes all over my body, difficulty in breathing. So, went to G.P. in Taringa. She replaced the antibiotic with 'E-M..' Let's see, hope for the best."

"Brilliant drug. I like it so much better than Cipro. Worked fast, no problems at all. I hope to use it again if there is another UTI. I feel like my old self again, and there are a few left to take."

"I am currently on this due to a UTI, and I was getting so many symptoms. I had 10 symptoms from my UTI. My symptoms have now gone down to 2 symptoms after 2 days of taking this medication. However, every time I take this medication, I get extreme drowsiness, feel spaced out, sensitivity to light, and sensitivity to the cold. It feels almost like I’m drunk. Wish I knew this before I took my first one right before a concert! Needless to say, I didn’t need to drink for the concert that night. This medication did that for me!"
