"I am currently using this medication to fight a staph infection. I'm not sure how I got it, but it seemed to start from a bug bite of some sort. The infection was the size of a golf ball and had lightning streaks running up my arm. The doctor had to cut open my arm and clean out the pus. Well, it's been about a week, and the infection has cleared up. Cephalexin seemed to work very well. I have no side effects, and I'm feeling great."

"I had a hair follicle infection on the top of my head, and the bump from it being infected got to be the size of a ping-pong ball, and so they put me on 500 mg of Keflex 4 times a day. It took 4 days for the medicine to take effect, and it totally wiped the infection away. At first, I didn't think it was going to work, I had pus and blood coming out of that thing. It was totally gross, and this drug is a miracle drug. If you think about it, a hundred years ago, people would die from stuff like that."

"I'm currently on my 5th day of cephalexin 500 mg 4X a day. I have an abscess from shaving with a dull razor and not using shaving gel, that's what I'm thinking anyway. Anyway, this antibiotic is really messing me up. I'm anxious, paranoid around people, super irritable, I feel scared in general. My stomach is distended and I'm constipated and retaining water. I want to stop, but I'm scared to. I'm going to call my doctor. Thanks everyone for posting about your experience. Helping me a lot."

"I started taking Augmentin for a bad sinus infection. I got to the last 3 doses when I went to see my PCP, and I told her I didn't feel any better. She prescribed cephalexin 500 mg twice daily. My sinus infection was gone within two days. I took probiotics with it the entire 10 days, and after the last dose, took 2 Diflucan. It worked great for me."

"After very minor foot surgery, I was put on 500 mg Cephalexin 4 times per day for a week. After 4 days, my digestive system went septic, and I had to quit the medication. I seldom take even over-the-counter drugs and have never had a reaction this severe to an antibiotic before. I thought I would get back to normal after a week, but after 3 more weeks, my digestive system has not improved. I have scheduled an appointment with another doctor in hopes of regaining my normal health."

"I suffered a urinary tract infection a week ago and went to the doctor when they prescribed me Clindamycin 300 mg 3 times in 3 days and Cipro 500 mg every 12 hours. I couldn't take either of them because I can't swallow big pills, and I'm afraid Cipro is a little strong for me. I get real anal when it comes to taking medicine like this, for I have a fear of side effects and haven't taken antibiotics before. I went back just the other day and switched medicines and I'm taking this, a liquid form 250 mg every 6 hours in four days for 10 days. It tastes really good and it smells good, looks like Pepto-Bismol. I always take it with food and I have no side effects, and so far it's working great! I highly recommend anyone to take this medicine that suffers urinary tract infection."

"I had a combination of an infection after an extraction, as well as a skin infection that hurt very badly (both things). I was prescribed 500 mg of cephalexin every 6 hours. By the second day, they were both feeling so much better. I was hesitant because I've had allergic reactions to other antibiotics and a severe reaction to Bactrim. Thankfully, nothing like that with this medication, but it does cause a very inconvenient stomach upset that causes me to have to get to the bathroom in a hurry throughout the day. I have noticed I'm more tired, I'm not sure if that's a side effect from the medication alone or because of having to use the bathroom so often. But I push through the negatives because it has done wonders for the infections."

"I started this cephalexin antibiotic to prevent infection after having a tummy tuck. After three days, I developed dizziness/vertigo, slight confusion, and being tired. It felt almost like I slept too much all the time, kind of foggy. At first, I brushed it up to the major surgery I just had, but after a while, I started to panic. I called the surgeon’s office, and they recommended that I come off of the pain meds I had been given. It’s been days without pain meds, but I’m still feeling really out of it and dizzy. I found that this could be a symptom of this antibiotic. I took my last one today, so I will be back to update everyone on whether it goes away or not. I really hope it does."

"I was prescribed 500 mg every 12 hours for ten days to fight a bacterial problem stemming from a stye on my eye. The cephalexin is working after 2 days; however, it makes me itch; no hives, just mild itching. I make sure I take it with lots of water, and I am eating yogurt to make sure I do not get a yeast infection. If the itching worsens, I will obtain a different antibiotic. I am sure there is something else that won't make me itch. I had some other antibiotic when I had a root canal that did not make me itch."

"I took it for ten days for a skin infection. Cleared it up in ten days. Despite taking so many probiotics and eating yogurt, I got severe diarrhea, and I STILL have mild diarrhea. Also, if you're a woman, be prepared for a yeast infection. It's driving me insane."

"It was effective in handling the infection in my teeth, but approximately 3 weeks after finishing the second course of it, I have developed the annoying vaginal itch and discharge. I am postmenopausal and was pretty sure the cephalexin was the culprit."

"I'm a healthy female in my mid-60s. In February 2020, I came down with a flu-like cold that got incrementally worse. Initially, my doctor prescribed Amoxicillin, but it didn't work at all. I continued getting a high fever at night and coughing constantly. After 6 weeks of this, I returned to the doctor, and this time he prescribed Cephalexin for 10 days. After the 2nd dosage, I felt 100% better. It was like taking a miracle drug. I didn't experience any side effects. I will always insist on this antibiotic because it works. I paid for my prescription out of pocket: $10.61 for qty. of 30."

"I have asthma and have had respiratory problems my whole 27 years. When I get sick, I get sick as a dog for long periods of time. Needless to say, I have been prescribed several different antibiotics over the years, and each of them helped. However, every time I have taken cephalexin, I have noticed an almost immediate result. So immediate that it is shocking. Currently, I am prescribed 500 mg 3x per day for 10 days, and I haven't had any side effects aside from feeling tired, but every antibiotic does that to me. Cephalexin is by far the best antibiotic I have had. Everyone reacts differently, though, so we all have to find which medications work best for our bodies."

"I got prescribed cephalexin 500 mg 4x daily for a minor bacterial infection. At first, I was fine, was just a little drowsy. However, as the days passed, I started becoming INSANELY paranoid, delusional, and depressed. I actually hallucinated as well as cried every single day several times a day. This drug, cephalexin, is absolutely horrible, and I will never be taking it again."

"Horrendous stuff. Foul smelling, stomach-churning, nausea-inducing, ugh. It made me feel I was on board a ship in a typhoon, retching hourly. I don't know how people take this. I will NEVER take this again if I can be prescribed something else that works. I have some positive experience with the healing of the toenail, but at what foul cost?"

"Okay, so I recently had the ovarian removal of my left ovary at the beginning of the month. Fast forward about three weeks, and I see that my belly button, which was one of the areas they went in through, had a pool of pus in it (even though I had no fever, nor did I really have any redness or swelling). But I thought it would be better to be safe than sorry, so I went to the ER. The doctor barely looked it over, acted like he didn't even want to be there, and then sent his nurse in to prescribe me this garbage antibiotic, cephalexin. I am going on day four, and I'm done. There's no way I can continue this medication for 7 days. It in a short amount of time has already made me incredibly dizzy and fatigued, but has given me horrible stomach aches that come and go, diarrhea, and a feeling like I'm about to faint. It looks like the infection is gone, and if it's not, then I will go to my primary care doctor and have them prescribe me something else."

"I was prescribed this for a UTI. On the 3rd day of using this, I got vaginal itching and extreme dryness! I'm on my 2nd day of my period (which is heavy on these days!), and I'm so dry my period stopped! I feel horrible and irritated down there. Stay away from this medication."

"I am recovering from bilateral ureteral stents for 3 weeks and having 3 kidney stones total removed with a basket. Well, this was the antibiotic of choice because I could not take Bactrim. After two doses, I'm really sick. So, my urologist prescribed cephalexin, 3 times a day, 500 mg. This feeling did not start until I was done. After eating, especially dairy, the BG's would settle in, and after that, all my food is dumped out of me into the toilet with little warning and no time wasted getting there. No one told me I needed a probiotic, thanks to my friend, a nurse, a week after finishing this medication. After this explosive BM, it takes a day or so to get back to normal. So, with that being said, how do you keep this reaction from ever happening?"

"I was prescribed a 10-day, 500 mg cephalexin series for a staph infection that manifested as a purplish, ruptured boil on my side. I dreaded taking them because I've always gotten extremely sick on antibiotics. However, I'm one pill shy of halfway through, and I haven't had any side effects, except maybe feeling hotter than usual (despite having a low body temp), but that may or may not be the antibiotic since I naturally feel hot all the time anyway. The site of the staph infection is healing very nicely. I'm honestly shocked that this antibiotic isn't making me sick. Based on the other reviews I see on there, it looks like different people are sensitive to different families of antibiotics, so you'll just have to work with your doctor to find the one that works for you when you need to take them!"

"I use the cephalexin to treat the abscessed teeth I have. I have used it before with UTIs. I am allergic to PCN, and my doctor prescribed the cephalexin. He said that people who are allergic to PCN can take cephalexin, and it does the same job as PCN does."

Cephalexin "Hubby has a bad tooth, recently started hurting him extremely bad. Got hold of a dentist to get the tooth out. He prescribed Keflex 250 mg, for the first 3-4 doses he was to take 2 x 3 doses then 1 cap x 3/day until finished. Within 1 dose, his tooth pain went away, however, on the 2nd to 3rd dose, the nausea, vomiting, horrible stomach pain that he describes as a nasty pain which he has to make himself puke gives him short-term relief. So if he is able to tolerate the rest of the duration of the script, this will be added to his list of meds he can't take."

"Had a hip replacement, and my ortho doctor suggested I take cephalexin 500 mg (4 tablets prior to work needing to be done) to prevent the possibility of infection that would settle in the hip. Taken the med anytime I've had any procedure that would be invasive, so far no side effects."

Cephalexin "I somehow got bit by a spider on my upper thigh area a year ago. No idea what kind of spider it was except I had a really bad reaction to it, which concerned me because most times things like that don't affect me much. I ended up going to the hospital and was prescribed Keflex 500 mg 4 times/day for 10 days. I noticed improvements within a few days, and it cleared up beautifully. I had no side effects whatsoever. Today I had to go see a doctor again about another bite with similar reactions. He also prescribed Keflex 500 for the same dosage and time period. I'm hoping for the same results as last time, but thinking of checking into some probiotics due to the strength of the prescription."

"I was going through severe anxiety, heart palpitations, tachycardia, body numbness, going in and out of another world. I had new allergies, twitching when I would almost fall asleep, 21 ER visits later, I found the answer. The antibiotic I was on for a tooth infection caused severe ulcers throughout my GI tract, it can cause all of that. I almost had a couple of heart attacks before I realized this. Here is what my treatment consists of: beta blockers to control the heart palpitations (you need them or it will get bad), Ativan to control the anxiety (this too will get worse), steroids to fix your mental state, reduce intestinal swelling, and get your immune system back on track so your allergies stop (this too will get worse), and a PPI pill to stop the stomach acid so they can heal. Also, I'm waiting for a scope treatment from a gastro doctor. I'm hoping I can make it until then, but for anybody else experiencing what I did, please get it addressed ASAP, I was told by every doctor it was anxiety and even banned from an ER."
