Zithromax (azithromycin) "It doesn't taste like anything when I took it. But I eat a meal with it and drink a glass of water/milk like it suggests. I've taken this medication three times. Each time it makes my stomach hurt, and I feel very nauseous. I also get sweaty and have bad diarrhea within an hour or two. It clears the infection up well, though."

Zithromax (azithromycin) "The nurse gave me two Zithromax pills to take for chlamydia. An hour later, my stomach was killing me, and I had diarrhea! I can’t even finish my meals, halfway through my meals, I feel nauseous. I am also very bloated, and I get headaches, dizziness, discharge, and itchiness! Use a condom! "I never in a million years thought I'd be on a posting for an STD, but honestly, you probably didn't either. There's nothing to be ashamed of, people suck, but once you know better, you do better. Anyways.. I was prescribed two 500 mg azithromycin pills to take 20-30 minutes after a meal. I had a pretty dense meal of meat and potatoes and took my medication an hour after I ate. I felt nauseous 10 minutes later but didn't throw up. It also made me drowsy, but I didn't have any cramps, diarrhea, or other side effects others have. It's been two months since I took these meds, and I'm happy to say I am 100% STD free! Please don't let the negative reviews scare you away. If you want to be cured, this is necessary. Good luck!"

"This antibiotic is making me pay the price for not using condoms. I took it about 2 hours ago, and I’m having really bad nausea, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. I’m eating small bits of crackers, and the nausea is slowly fading, but so far it’s not fun."

"Took this medication around 8:30 PM on an empty stomach, as I was not advised otherwise. Big mistake. Had the worst stomach pains followed by extreme diarrhea that lasted until approx. 12:30 AM. Managed to fall asleep and am feeling much better! Just gotta tough it out!"

"Just took the two pills today. I got the infection from a cheating ex. But 10 mins after taking the pills, I was blindsided by the side effects. Stomach pain was the worst I've ever felt, hot flashes, the feeling of having to throw up, and nausea. I was able to get to sleep, but as soon as I got up, I had a stool of watery diarrhea. The medication seems to have helped. No burning during urination now. Hopefully, everything is good and cleared."

"So long story short, contracted the clap from a boyfriend who had sex with a girl who waited months to tell him that she had it. Yay me. Took four pills with little in my stomach, ate a couple of hours before. Let's just say I'd hate me if I were my toilet. I'm currently on it with diarrhea, pooping (have been for 30 mins), my life away while my stomach makes these weird sounds. I feel nauseous, but I don't think I'm going to throw up. Sucks to suck. I would say have safe sex, but it's already too late if you're up here, so that's pointless. But I will say I'm sorry and prepare for your colon cleanse. I feel pounds lighter!"

"I got prescribed 500 mg, 2 pills to be taken at once. I am awful at taking pills, so I tried to crush it into applesauce. DO NOT DO THAT. Made the whole thing taste awful and had to get another prescription for it. Took it today all together, and within an hour, I was on the toilet with the worst diarrhea I’ve had in over 10 years. It hit so quick. Hopefully, it knocks the infection out for good, but definitely stay near a bathroom for at least the first 2 hours."

"Omg! So today I took these pills on an empty stomach, and I kid you not, about 20-30 minutes after taking them, my stomach is at a 10. I'm currently on the toilet now, too scared to get up. Cramps, gurgling, nausea, you name it! I'm trying to take deep breaths to ease the pain, but it's not working at all!"

"I have taken this medication about 3 times, 4 250 mg (1000 mg total), all at once, and every time it's the same side effects: feeling hot, extremely nauseous, and very bad stomach pain. Although it's a very uncomfortable feeling, the medication is very effective. The uncomfortable feeling lasts close to about 2 hours, and then gradually the pain goes away. Besides the pain, it's a great medication. Good luck."

Zithromax (azithromycin) "I've seen a lot of reviews, and they kind of freaked me out about the side effects. I fixed myself a nice brunch, ate, then took the pills, and about an hour after taking the (4) 250 mg Zithromax pills, my stomach started churning and rumbling. I used the bathroom once, and that was pretty much it. No vomiting, no bad diarrhea, or sweating, etc. I took the pills Wednesday, so I'm 2 days in."

"Today I received results from an STD test that was given to me by my OBGYN, unfortunately, the results came back positive for chlamydia. I've only had sex with one person, so I was pretty devastated, but luckily, I was prescribed 2 azithromycin 500 mg tablets. The side effects are pretty strange considering that you may get dizzy, become weak, it may interfere with your vision, and it may or may not cause mild stomach pain. My best advice to you is to drink tons of water and do not take the medication on an empty stomach, and it may be best to take the medicine when you're someplace comfortable. Personally, all of the side effects are worth it because, in the end, you'll be free of an STD. Good luck! (No more unprotected sex for me!)"

"I took it this morning before going to work. I felt so blindsided. Had the worst stomach pains, super nauseous, and dizziness. I was also beyond tired, like weak. I wished I would have taken it after work or after dinner. Lesson learned: don't believe anyone when they say you're the only one. Hoping and praying it all comes out good when I get rechecked."

"This is my second time having the infection, so as soon as it came, I knew what it was. Unfortunately, I have a $75 gynecologist co-pay, plus whatever extra bill that they end up sending afterwards. I bought my azithromycin online--no rx-- for $16 for 6 500 mg pills. I ate first, then I took 2 500 mg pills at once before bed. The nausea came within 30 min, and I spent about 3 hours fighting my body from throwing up. I experienced hot flashes too (I didn't have that last time). I fell asleep, and in the morning, the nausea was gone. Discharge and odor are gone."

"OK, so I have horrible anxiety, and after reading these reviews, I WAS TERRIFIED. I waited 3 days to take my azithromycin pills, then, last night, I finally took them while shaking. I was given four 250 mg tablets, so I took 2 with some water and took the other 2 an hour later (I didn't feel comfortable taking all 4 at once). The first 2 gave me mild cramps and stomach bubbles. Then, when I took the last 2, I was going to sleep (because I was still terrified). I also took an 800 mg ibuprofen after reading about the stomach pains, so that maybe helped. But for the most part, I only experienced mild cramps, gassy, and I did have sweats for a good 5 mins. I woke up, and I just felt like my stomach was empty. So again, don't let these reviews scare you. Take it before bed, and it'll be much better. Stay safe."

"Holy moly, I'm sitting on the toilet with violent diarrhea! I had the worst stomach pains! The pain is very close to the same pain as appendicitis. I took the two 500 mg tablets, approximately 1-2 hours later is when the pain started. I hope this pain and diarrhea are a sign of the tablets working. Can't wait until I am chlamydia-free :)"

"Question for everyone as well. I was prescribed 4 250 pills, took them all at once after dinner. It's been 5 days and still have a burning sensation while urinating. How long does it normally take for the symptoms of the STD to pass? I didn't have any side effects of the medication, to be honest. Just curious when this crap is going to end. My test of cure is set for 8 weeks from now. Brutal.."

"Very effective for sure! Only symptom of the infection was vaginal discharge with a weird smell. Took 2 500 mg tablets with a bag of chips and a full glass of water. Felt fine until about 3 hours later. Now I feel terrible! Nauseous and stomach pain. A little gas also. But despite the side effects, it beats having an STD."

"After reviewing all these reviews, I was mega, mega nervous taking this. Caught chlamydia and had to take the single dose of 4 tablets. Was expecting sickness, diarrhea, vomiting, and pretty bad stomach pains. Had some cereal in the morning, then 2 hours later took the tablets with some water and waited for the onset of horridness. I'm writing this because reading these reviews can be misleading, as people are way more likely to want to vent if they have a bad experience, which is what terrified me. Besides a very small amount of diarrhea, which wasn't uncomfortable whatsoever, and a few painless stomach growls, I haven't had any other side effects whatsoever. Take these reviews with a pinch of salt!"

"I want to write this for every anxious person who was, just like me, scared to death of taking this antibiotic. After reading about possible death and whatnot, I was shaking all day prior to taking this medicine. Firstly, NOTHING will happen to you if you take this medicine. You will not get dizzy or feel drugged, or have palpitations or anxiety - I am one of the most anxious people, and this did not happen to me. Why? I ate first. The most important thing before taking this medicine is to eat because it is strong for your stomach. Eat like a pig and then take it with lots of water. You will be fine. The only thing you might get is stomach pain and diarrhea - when you do, eat pieces of bread and it will pass (within half an hour max)."

"Dying laughing at some of the reviews on here as I sit on the toilet with diarrhea that's been happening for like 30 mins. Took 2 500 mg pills about an hour ago w/ food. Stomach is making gross noises. Had nausea too, but it's mostly gone. Like some other people on here, I didn't wait long enough to have sex again after getting treated the first time with my partner, so this is round two. "After having unprotected sex with two different men in one night (I do NOT recommend), I figured something bad would happen. After finally going to the doctor because my vag felt inflamed and swollen, I was diagnosed with chlamydia and given azithromycin. After taking it on an empty stomach (again, would not recommend), about an hour later, my stomach was hurting so bad. I also got hot flashes and my pulse elevated, but I was graced with no diarrhea, unlike others on here. I decided I was not going to deal with it anymore and forced myself to sleep and woke up feeling so much better in the morning. Hopefully this did the trick and I'm cleared of the infection. NEVER having sex again."
