For Gout "I am 47 years old, 6’ tall, and 183 lbs. I had some routine blood tests done to check cholesterol, PSA, etc. They came back with high triglycerides (561) and uric acid at 8.4, so the MD has put me on Lipod for the triglycerides and allopurinol for the uric acid, even though I’ve never suffered from gout. I must admit I like a few beers a night, and my diet is mostly fish as I don’t eat meat. I’ve been on the combination of meds for a month now, and I have lost all energy, and maybe not depressed, but I certainly don’t have the get-up-and-go I used to have, and my sex drive is pretty much zero."

For Gout "While I haven't had any problems with gout since I started taking Allopurinol over 2 years ago, I have struggled with erectile dysfunction and very low libido as a result of taking Allopurinol. Dr. even prescribed generic Viagra, and it has done no good. Stopping Allopurinol for a while to test my hypothesis."

For Gout "I am a 49-year-old male and diagnosed with gout at 35. Had on-and-off attacks, which progressively got worse, and was put on allopurinol 2 years ago. Started at an initial 100 mg, and uric acid shot right down within a week. So stayed on that dose and have not had an attack since. However, I have found low libido levels, which may not be a bad thing in my life. However, I also got erectile dysfunction, which I am not happy with. I am trying to lose weight and then go off allopurinol for a while to see if I still need it."

For Gout "Been taking allopurinol for years. Dr. didn't really tell me the side effects. It works well on my gout, but allopurinol has given me erectile dysfunction and a low to nil libido. They don't tell you that, you have to dig around on the internet to find that out. I'll be looking for an alternative."

For Gout "68 years old male, suffered gout for years mainly in my big toe. Intense pain, couldn’t get out of bed. I used to fight it with Naproxen, which I used to take at the onset of an attack. If I took it early enough, it would head the full-blown attack off at the pass. My doctor put me on Allopurinol, which I was not happy about, seeing all the possible side effects. Started with 100mg, then increased to 200mg a day as I was still getting attacks. Been using it for 12 months or so now, still get the odd attack, and after having a normal healthy sex life, I have developed a low libido and erectile dysfunction that even Viagra cannot assist with. From reviews, I see others have suffered this. I am going to come off the drug to test my theory. I also suffer fatigue, which was never me, my get-up-and-go seems to have got up and gone. I will see what the results of my Allopurinol absence bring before consulting with my GP."
