For Gout "First gout attack in the big toe at 42 lasted two months. I couldn't wait to get on allopurinol. I started at 100 mg for a week, then 200 mg for a week, then 300 mg steady. I am also taking 0.6 mg colchicine. UA went from over 10 to less than 5 in a month and no flare-ups. Side effects include aching foot and fatigue, but overall, it's definitely worth it."

For Gout "68 years old male, suffered gout for years mainly in my big toe. Intense pain, couldn’t get out of bed. I used to fight it with Naproxen, which I used to take at the onset of an attack. If I took it early enough, it would head the full-blown attack off at the pass. My doctor put me on Allopurinol, which I was not happy about, seeing all the possible side effects. Started with 100mg, then increased to 200mg a day as I was still getting attacks. Been using it for 12 months or so now, still get the odd attack, and after having a normal healthy sex life, I have developed a low libido and erectile dysfunction that even Viagra cannot assist with. From reviews, I see others have suffered this. I am going to come off the drug to test my theory. I also suffer fatigue, which was never me, my get-up-and-go seems to have got up and gone. I will see what the results of my Allopurinol absence bring before consulting with my GP."

For Gout "I’m 67 years old and have had gout several times in the past 10-15 years, mainly in my big toe and once in my right knee (very painful) and misdiagnosed by my GP! Back in July of this year, I went to a podiatrist for a pain in my second toe. He tested my uric acid level and said it was almost a 10. Advised me to try allopurinol, of which my nephrologist agreed that my kidneys would benefit from a lower uric acid level as well. Started taking 300 mg, and after about a month, my levels were down to approximately 4+. Side effects: low energy, foot pain/swollen sole, mainly on one foot. I’ve been hobbling around for several weeks now! I think I’ll try skipping a few doses and see if that helps? I may also try a lower dosage too! On the positive side: it lowered my uric acid levels, which is a major plus!"

For Gout "I am 47 years old, 6’ tall, and 183 lbs. I had some routine blood tests done to check cholesterol, PSA, etc. They came back with high triglycerides (561) and uric acid at 8.4, so the MD has put me on Lipod for the triglycerides and allopurinol for the uric acid, even though I’ve never suffered from gout. I must admit I like a few beers a night, and my diet is mostly fish as I don’t eat meat. I’ve been on the combination of meds for a month now, and I have lost all energy, and maybe not depressed, but I certainly don’t have the get-up-and-go I used to have, and my sex drive is pretty much zero."
