The young 14 yr old that took 2 10mg (if I read right) yes she had hallucinations and such because she didn't lay down and go to sleep. She had a bad trip. So I don't know much about ambien dosage as I just got put on it. But I do know you are supposed to be in bed to take it. Just trying to see what to do when it don't work.
I’m taking zolpidem,I don’t sleep all night only three to four hours a night..I told the Dr he put me on Trazodone for sleep..He told me to take half of the pill,100mg if that didn’t work take a whole,if that didn’t work take one and half etc,up to 300mg..The half made me feel funny and sick to my stomach..Has anyone on here ever took Trazodone and dis it work for you?
Hi!! I started with 1- 5mg ambien at night for the past month and a half. 1st day I slept like a baby. Woke up energized. The next few weeks were a disaster. I work up every night around 3:30-4am each time. Wide awake!!! At this point I'm extremely thirsty, grab a late snack and then want to fall asleep. I don't want to snack that late at night. Just want to sleep. Finally tossing and turning btwn 430-5. In pain and numbness with my arms and legs annoying me I Finally asleep. Unfortunately my son wakes up,between, 540-6am everyday. So I finally need to get up for the day and am tired and groggy until I get a coffee in or my morning meds. Migraine meds and stuff that kinda wake me up. Just saw my Dr. The other day. He increased ambien to 10mg. First night tonight. Hopefully it helps better. He also suggested medicinal marijuana. I'll keep you posted on the 10mg dose. And see if it helps or not.
You poor thing you sound like me. I just took my Ambien like 1/2 hour ago I should be sleeping but I'm not.I'm on so many different things for all different things. I can hardly keep them all straight. I wish you the best on your journey.

I have taken 2 10mg Ambien for over 3 yrs every night. I am 53 yrs old and can’t sleep at all with out taking it. Though I do have to say after three years it only helps me sleep a few hours a night.
TheSpider1:
May I ask, do you consistently sleep the 7-8 hours the directions say you must commit to sleep every night? I'm a bit curious, well, curious about many things regarding this medication...
Reason I ask, I was recently prescribed it due to chronic insomnia for 5+ years. Ultimately, there are many reasons I think I may have had a bad reaction to it, but one thing is- I go to sleep and fall asleep with the Ambien 10mg about midnight. My dog wakes me up to take him out around 5am each morning (apartment living). So my sleep is interrupted, then I fall right back asleep at 5:30. When I try to get up with my alarm clock at 9am, forget about it... It's like I'm a zombie. Physically can't open my eyes, not paralysis just absolutely tired. Can't get out of bed. I actually disposed of them after trying several times, just didn't seem to work for me.
I'm 52 and started taking Ambien a few yrs ago and it was helping me to fall asleep but not stay asleep. I was awake 4 hrs later. Almost to the minute. So I got the extended release and I'm still up 4 hrs later. I was considering doubling the dose but wasn't sure if that was safe. I take 12.5 mg. I looked it up to see if that was safe and it says it is. But it says it can cause your symptoms of insomnia be worse. You either sleep or you don't sleep how much worse can not sleeping get? I'm getting anxiety over having to take drugs every night in order to do so. I've tried every holistic, meditative hypnotic thing you can possibly do to sleep and nothing works. Now I've had to add Xanax to the list of medications to use to fall asleep.
10mg is NOT the max dose; I work in a pharmacy and they have higher does not sure why they told you ten was the max
Actually no one has ever said that everyone assumes that because they don't go above 10mg.
NO! I made this mistake last night and here was my experience (I'm female 14 150lbs btw)
I was hallucinating that things around the room were people or more like entities and there was this pile of clothes on my bed and I was afraid to go on that side of the bed for some reason. I was saying weird stuff out loud. Almost like I was dreaming out loud. I felt as though I couldn't walk but finally I got up and stumbled into the bathroom. I immediately threw up all over the room. Was trying to scrub some vomit off my leg but it would not come off (I think this was a hallucination) well I went in and told my grandparents and they helped me out (cleaned the bathroom, got me some new pjs, and let me sleep in their bed. I was crying quite a bit and seeing double. I also could not walk right. I was stumbling.
DO NOT DO THIS!!
Seems like conjecture.
My doc is pretty adamant that I only need 1x10mg of Ambien, but that gives me only 4 hrs of sleep. I have serious insomnia and sleep apnea. How do you get your doctor (those of you who were able to) to give you 20mg per night? I might need to change my doc to someone that is willing to give me 20mg per night. I just cant function on 4 hrs of sleep every night.
Any recommendations in the SF bay area? Thanks a lot!!
I take 30mg at night. I'm 18 and weigh 150 and that's fine
How are you able to get a doctor to write you a prescription for 30mg or 90 pills? Insurance will only pay for 30 per month?
You'll be completely fine! My first time taking ambien 10mg I washed it down with a glass of wine and slept great for 3 hrs as expected.
Now, I took 2 10mg with some wine and feel great. Will sleep like a rock I'm sure, without the grogginess ;)
I am 44 yrs old & weigh approx 105lbs & I've suffer from severe anxiety, insomnia is the worst & I have adhd... I take 1mg Xanax 4 times a day (prn) & 2 10 mg ambient every night at bed time. I do not take my Adderall at the moment, but I've been on these medications since 2001. This past Father's Day my ex husband (biological father of my only child) & his 2nd wife in which we've had a good relationship to violence & on Nov.21 will be the 2nd anniversary of the death of my husband of 21 yrs (he was 49 @ the time of his death) & my anxiety & insomnia has gotten worse since his death. Back in April 2015 just 4 months after his death I stopped all my meds & paid dearly...
I went 5 straight days with 0% sleep (I was taking my ADHD rx) needless to say I got behind the wheel of my brand new 2015 Toyota RAV4 & was in an accident (1st & only I've ever had) I had a clean driving record & I do not drink, but I was given a dui. Do not take more rx than prescribed & don't stop taking without the help of your doctor.
I hope sharing my story helps others who find themselves in a similar situation.
You sound like you were on your 30mg Instant release addys when you wrote this. I had a similar issue with the addys and a dui
I had this same question Ambien does not work for me at all I take Soma as well as Norco and I'm afraid to take 20 mg of Ambien with the other drugs but I have insomnia so bad I need help as well , I have heard Trazodone works great . Were you able to figure something out about the Ambien ?
trazodone works great for me... no side affects and I've taken it for years! Seroquel gives me bad nightmares on day 5.. also I wake up like what I call a Seroquel hangover.. 3-4 hours of walking coma!
I take another full 10 ambien when the first wears off, and then seroquel given to me do to bipolar. And sleep like a rock. When I do my morning workout after, I'm all fine but I am groggy waking up.
How long do you sleep before you work out?
I believe you can take up to 30 12.5mg quick release Ambien per month.
Wow what drug is it for I googled it and stuff like it's kind of different .
Hi. I just thought id let u know what works very well for myself. I take 10mg ambient and 50mg of seroquil before bed and sleep a sound 7 hrs.
OMG PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF SEROQUIL! I know your response was 2 years ago and if by some miracle you are still taking it, please stop immediately. It causes heart problems prolonged QT. if you don't believe me, GOOGLE it.
I know this first had as a family member just passed away.
Isn't seroquil an anti-psychotic or psychotropic drug? I've taken it. It changes my face when I look in the mirror. My face is all droopy and my eyes turn down and sag. It's scary. Plus, my doctor was firm about this point; you have to take it 2 to 4 hours before bedtime. Since the 3 months I've been taking it off and on, my eyes have dark circles and are "sunken" in. Longterm effects? Yikes! Has anyone experienced any of these symptoms?
Yes, I have used Seroquel (from 200-800MG) and my family says it makes me psychotic, which I do not remember the last three years of my life due to this drug, short term memory loss, broken teeth, to name a few. My brother and a friend both got settlements from the drug company. I do not recommend this drug to anyone! I have been taking two 10 mg of Ambien for over five years even with Seroquel. Unfortunately 20 mg does not work well for me in the long run, it knocks me out but only 2 to 4 hours tops.
It is used to treat Alzheimer's
Hello Heartbreaker714 ... I am so glad you commented on Seroquil. I have chronic pain and insomnia. The doctor tried me on Ambient and Trazadone nothing worked except Seroquil. But OMG! The effects and side effects terrify me. I posted a comment about it. I put it in question form but they took it down. Why would they do that? Because the pharmaceutical company pays for advertising? I've been off and on it for 3 months. Is there ANYTHING that helps beside this?
I didn't suffer from chronic pain but I had apnea (I think) and chronic insomnia. I got my septum fixed and that made a huge difference also along with (reluctantly) improving my "sleep hygiene". Like the bulb in my bedroom I changed to a red bulb (other bulbs stop the body from making melatonin, and I took the TV, computer and anything with light out of the room. I also got one of those keep soundtrack things and loosely blindfold myself ... It's a lot I know lol but it helped. When I don't have access so these things ambien helps.
You may need to change doctors. While its great to be cautious over medication, some are overly conservative.
I'm on ambien plus on Seroquel and I've been on it for 2yrs from 25mg-800mg (currently @ 400mg doing ok) although not sleeping great but that due to chronic pain and being off work.
I take 400 mg of seroquel a day plus 10/20.mg ambien. My doc says i can take up to 850mg seroquel per day. Sound too high?
@YesImHere. If you're suffering from chronic pain and insomnia - ask your dr about amptitriptyline. It's an anti anxiety med that also turns off your pain receptors. Knocks you right out for a good 8-9 hrs.
Seroquel is no good. My dr. had me on 900 mg. 1 day I said that's enough and I started the tapering off.mYes, I slept great but it wasn't worth the side effects. Then my dr. put me on Xanax, another bad 1, I went to the hospital to get off this and they gave me Depakote which worked great. The withdrawals before taking that drug were awful.I swore a I would Never take anything else but I found myself not sleeping. My dr. gave me AMBIEN and my psych dr. gave me Valium for my depression and Panic attacks. I founded that AMBIEN didn't work well so I started taking it with the Valium. Well I was sleeping great and also told both Drs, that I was taking them together, they didn't say anything about it being unsafe.SHAME ON THEM. So now my psych dr. retired and no other dr. will give me Valium. So I have to go thru withdrawals AGAIN. IM sick of this. I found a new dr. And he gave me .5 mg Valium.
He said to take AMBIEN and Melatonin and if that didn't work add the Valium.Thats not working and I am so tired I can't function. So tonight I am going to take AMBIEN and 10 mg. Valium and see if I can sleep.I have tried everything to sleep, I lost weight now I'm gaining it. They say if you don't sleep you gain weight. I'm not eating so I don't understand what no sleep has to do with weight gain. Can anyone answer that? Well we shall see how this works again.
