Onions & leg cramps?

It seems that with me, eating either cooked or raw onions prior to sleep will trigger a leg cramp in 4 hours. If I than take two (2) OTC Potassium pills they eventually alieviate the pain. I am currently taking valacyclovir for Shingles. It's been 5 days since I've first started the pills and my pain has increased. I just have a bumpy rash, no blisters and I caught it early. Should my pain be increasing at this point in the treatment?

Is it typical to be prescribed these medications all together?

My husband has been prescribed the following for severe muscle pain in his back: Prednisone 5mg, Hydrocodon-Acetaminoph 7.5-3.25, Cyclobenzaprine 5mg, and Meloxicam 15 mg. Is it typical to be taking all of these at once? It seems like a lot. He also takes Zicam for allergies.
