My Mother has severe arthritis of the neck that causes her severe pain. She gets some relief from a heating pad throughout the day. Her PCP recently prescribed Lidoderm patches to apply to her neck but not sure if she should use the heating pad with the Lidoderm patch or not. Please advise.
Is there any contraindication to using a heating pad over a Lidoderm patch?

Yes, you can cause over delivery, damage to the skin among other things. Please do not combine the two.
Yes, you should never put heat over any med patch, it will make it absorb wrong. In this case she could absorb more of the lidocaine into her system then is supposed to end up there, its a topical treatment. Lidocaine can cause some bad side effects if too much is absorbed into the blood.
One little hint: You can cut them to make them fit an area
Thanks!
