I really can not afford to be pregnant? i have been taking Yasmin for like two yrs but have never had unprotected sex with it. look forward to hearing your answers.
Missed pill after unprotected sex. Took both the next day. Am I at risk of being pregnant?

Go to ur pharmacy and ask for plan B. Its like the morning after pill. i think you can take it up to 3 days after you've had unprotected sex. when i was on birth control my pharmacist told me that st johns wart would reduce the effect of my birth control or kill the birth control altogether. stop the st johns wart and go get the plan B!!! you can buy it over the counter at the pharmacy as long as u are 17 or older. i know you wouldnt want an unplanned pregnancy. i've had 2! lol
You should be perfectly fine. Missing one pill when you have been taking them for that long is not a big deal, your pharmacist was correct. They are in your system and your chance of getting pregnant would be very very slim. In the future tho, if something like this occurs you can always go to a pharmacy that will give you the"morning after"pill to be certain that you are safe. Still, do not worry about pregnancey. I would, however, do some research on the Yasmin you are taking. There have been some questionable effects of that particular birth control pill and I really think you should speak with your Doctor about what he/she knows, do your own research and then make a decision about continuing with Yasmin or trying something else. Why do you ask if the St. John's Wort is protecting you? That has nothing to do with birth control and if someone said it did, they are incorrect.
That drug too has been in the news lately regarding it's efficacy and side effects, so i would do the same research on that. Do you take it for depression? There are many great anti depressants out there and just because something is supposed to be "natural" does not mean it cannot have bad side effects, so I hate to tell you to check on both your meds, but, CHECK ON BOTH YOUR MEDS, it's much better to be informed on what you are taking than find out later that something is being taken off the market or has side effects you weren't aware of. As far as the pregnancy goes tho, do not worry, okay?
Good luck and do check w/your dr. regarding what you are now taking, please. Dede
Someone mentioned that St. John's Wort could have an impact on the efficacy of birth control pills. I still am sure that you are fine, but St. J W has so very many drugs that it cannot be taken with, I would seriously suggest you give it up and find another antidepressant that does not interact with so many things. I have done a bit more research on the St. J. W. and do not find that it helps with depression and the side effects and drug interactions that it involves are defnitely not worth whatever relief you think you may be getting from it. As I said, give your 'Dr. a call and see if he/she is willing to give you something for depression and give it a chance to work. Also, see about changing from the Yasmin, if you are using condoms, it is simply a backup and there are other birth control pills out there that have less side effects and will be just as effective as a back up.
Am just thinking of your best health, so please do a bit of research and think about making the changes i suggested. But quit worrying about the pregnancy, wait a week and get a home pregnancy test and i'm sure you will find that you are NOT! Best of health and take care of yourself, you need to know what you are taking and not just listen to what someone tells you may have worked for them. Drugs change and they find new side effects all the time, so keep informed, for your own well being. Dede
I appreciate such a quick response :)
That was my intention when going to the pharmacy, the "morning after pill" however when i asked if she was sure i didn't need to take anything she said i will be fine so i left. Then i read somewhere on the net about St Johns wort and panicked slightly... ok a lot.
Ive been on the pill along time, obviously with breaks due to antibiotics and stuff but that was like 2 months ago. I have like a week and a half left of this cycle so will try and calm down till then.
With reference to checking my meds, i will def have a look ask my doctor what else i can take!
Thanks for the advice i appreciate it a lot!
Another thing, would it be too late now too take the "morning after" pill? or what other options would i have. Like im really worried that ive left things too far and should have insited on the morning aftre pill
Hi Minks, yes, it's too late, has to be taken w/in 24 hrs. i believe, but it is essentially, an extremely strong birth control pill, so if you took 2 of yours and have been on the yas that long, please try to relax and not worry, i could "almost" guarantee you will be okay in the pregnancy dept. Do you need, however to be checked for STD's in the near future? Just asking, since you said it was unprotected, some std's are almost impossible to even know you have, so it's always best to have a check up, even if you know the person and think he is fine, he may not know about something like Clamydia or some of the other things that get passed and show little to no symptoms, most of them very easy to treat. Quit worrying, okay? Dede
Just read the new comment re Plan B, something I was unaware of i am sorry to say, when i took the morning after pill it was quite a few years ago and there was no Plan B, so if within the 3 day period, call pharmacist and see about that and if they carry this Plan B. Can someone let me know more about it. Thanks Melissa!
Are there any symptoms that occur from taking two pills cos i haven't been feeling great and i guess thats why im neurotic. As fas as std's my bf gets checked regularly as he is in the sports world and just competed not so long ago and all std tests are check for him. so im not worried about that.
I did double check with pharmacist who said im in the middle of the pack and it should be fine as well as st Johns should make no difference.
She told me that i shouldn't worry but i can take this plan b if i would like peace of mind. I dont feel like being sorry in a couple weeks but also dont feel like taking something unnecessarily. I guess im a big baby. If it can be taken within days i still have tomorrow to take it?
Glad to hear it is your boyfriend, so you know his history. It is really up to you, if you are truly concerned about a possible pregnancy, go ahead and do the Plan B. Two birth control pills are not going to make you feel any different, but as I mentioned, there have been questions regarding the Yas, so I would ask your Dr. about possibly getting another b/c pill to take. If you are using condoms, you should be able to take the weakest pill, or how about simply getting a shot once a month. That is the easiest way to go. You've gotten the pharmacist's input, how about a call to your Dr. and see what he/she says and then make your decision?
I dunno how descriptive i can be on here but ive had some mirky blood .. so this is where the concern comes in. Maybe it is from the Yas, ill call a doctor and ask him about that also will def consider changing my pill. Thanks so much for the advice and sorry for being such a pain lol
you are not a pain, so don't even worry about that, just do what is going to make you feel safest and let me know how it goes, glad you are willing to listen re the Yas and St. John's Wort, I wouldn't tell you those things unless I knew what i was speaking about. Sometimes Dr.'s presribe certain meds due to their relationship w/the pharmeceutical reps, but that doesn't mean you are not perfectly within your rights to ask for something else and you can tell your Dr.you feel a change is needed due to the research you've done on it. Some slight spotting is a good sign, don't let that worry you either, just keep using those condoms, at least while changing birth control pills, or method, there are many different things out there and one shot per month seems an easy way to go if you have nothing that prevents you from getting it.
Dont' hesitate to write any time, i am happy to help in any way i can, i've gone through menopause and finished at 53 with little problems, but have lots of experience w/birth control in earlier years, wasn't too good w/condoms, myself I am sorry to say, but made it through fairly unscathed. Dede
Just to let you know, i have chatted to a Dr to informed me that st Johns def has an effect on the effect of Yasmin in terms of birth control. She told me Escapelle which im assuming is plan B would put my mind at ease and i should take it. Which i have yaken. Ill be perfectly at ease with my period but at least now have taken all precautions that are possible after something this stupid lol. I really do thank you as your support has really made me feel a lot better :)
Minks: Oh good, i am glad to hear you've covered all your bases and know now you will be okay. I am also glad to have learned about Plan B and am sorry i didn't know about it prior. This is a good reason to look into all of this stuff and maybe make a change, even tho scary for a bit, it's an eye opening re the St. J.W. and the Yas, so get into your Doc and see what she can do for you. Write anytime, you are actually a joy, not the least bit a pain.
Love and best wishes for future good birth control (lol) Dede
if you are interested in switching birth control... i did the implanon. they insert it into you skin ( the inside of your upper arm) it lasts for 3 yrs. alot of people say they didnt have a period after being on it for a while. i bled for the first few months... just spotting here and there. it got annoying. everyone said it would go away soon but i just decided to get it removed and get my tubes tied. i just thought i would thro it out there for ya if you are interested in making a change! then you wont have to worry about missing a pill! glad you took the plan b... xoxo melissa
