I have been on metoprolol for about two years 25mg for most of the time. I was recently upped to 75mg now have tinnitus. Load buzzing humming sound. Is this a side effect of Metoprolol? I asked my Cardiologist nurse practitioner she says no but I found evidence it can. Anyone else experience this? I was put on this to bring my heart rate down diagnosed with sinus tachycardia.
Does metoprolol cause ringing in the ears?

I'd been taking metoprolol 25mg for PVC's about 9 years and no problem at all. But when I added escitalopram 5mg I suddenly got tinnitus. I immediately quit escitalopram but five months later I still have the tinnitus. I can't stop taking metoprolol because without it my heart beats irregularly. You well may have gotten tinnitus from metoprolol, as many drugs can cause it. In my case I believe escitalopram was the culprit. I am afraid my tinnitus may be permanent, as other people have reported this to be the case for them, and its not as "rare" a side effect as people try to tell you. I hope yours goes away. Let us know if it does.
Tinnitus is considered a very rare side effect of this medication affecting 0.01% of people being treated with Metoprolol.
