I started with Lexapro in June 2021. And it has been great. I felt myself again and had control over my life. Unfortunately the last two days have not been great. All of a sudden anxiety and depression symptoms that remind me of before the medicines have returned. I am experiencing the following: - cramps and pains in my body - anxious thoughts - lack of concentration - feeling sad - sleeplessness (have experienced this for weeks now) - i am also less resilient to the sadness
A few things have happened as well that might explain what is going on: - I had quite a rough weekend from an alcohol perspective - I had some emotional stress lately.
I know it has just been two days but am quite worried. Has anyone experienced this? Has my Lexapro stopped working or is it just a long hang over..
Hi, Petehi! It's not uncommon for antidepressant to "poop out" but it's usually after a long term use. I wonder if the additional stress and the alcohol encounter may be causing some breakthrough symptoms. Mixing alcohol with antidepressants can cause additional problems... you're taking a depressant drug along with your antidepressant and it may be that your metabolism is recovering. Either way, I'd recommend that you talk with your doctor for advice if this persists but it may just be a matter of giving it a little more time. Best regards and I hope you're feeling better quickly.

I do not think it has stopped working, you mixed alcohol which is a CNS depressant with your SSRIs (lexapro), and they do not mix well. In the future I would limit the consumption of alcohol or avoided as you want to be your normal self again prices must be paid... do not drink alcohol.

"Alcohol is a depressant which affects your brain's natural level of happiness chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. This means that although you'll feel an initial 'boost' the night before, the next day you will be deficient in these same chemicals, which may lead to feeling anxious, down or depressed."
