How long has it been since you had an upper endoscopy (EGD)? I have esophageal spasms too. One night the pain got so bad that I went to the ER. They ruled out the heart.
A gastroenterologist was called in, did an EGD, and discovered I had an esophageal stricture, severe narrowing of the esophagus at one point. So while in there, he dilated it and had to make a small cut. No wonder the pain got so bad! It's now a more normal size.
That was 3 weeks ago. I've been fine since. But today I'm feeling the chest pain again, though not as strongly. I have a call in to the doctor.
I guess I'm just saying that certain symptoms, like chest pain, shouldn't be ignored and warrants a trip to the doc.
You definitely need to see a doctor about your problems before they could get worse or cause serious consequences. Don't worry so much that you don't want to hear what the doctor has to say. They can instead help you now. Later on it could be too late. So do see a doctor ASAP.
Hello jkbermy,
Tests and Exams
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
Esophageal manometry
Esophagogram (barium swallow x-ray)
Treatment of Esophageal spasm
Nitroglycerin given under the tongue (sublingual) may be effective in an acute episode of esophageal spasm. Long-acting nitroglycerin and calcium channel blockers are also used to treat esophageal spasms.
Long-term (chronic) cases are sometimes treated with low-dose antidepressants such as trazodone or nortriptyline to reduce symptoms.

With regards to the lump, I suggest you contact you Dr. and talk to him / her about a check up and a biopsy.
