I am currently on my 3rd Depo shot and I want to know if it can cause permanent infertility? I have done research and some say it can cause infertility. What's your experience? Please let me know!

I began the depo when I was 14 and came off when I was 17. I began having regular periods after 3 years of being off depo but still unable to conceive ... Does anyone have advice to help with this problem ?
hello I took depo after I had my first child on 2002 I wish I research more about birth control. I just had two shots and I was done. I got scared I wouldn't get my period. my daughter is now 12 and I just couldn't get pregnant again.
I use the depo shot for almost two years and i wanted to conceived , i had always been irregular to start with so then i decided after i couldnt get pregnant a year after i stop taking the shot. i was going to try the arm implant on march this year and i just took it off on october 15 and i got my period in two weeks so i hope i could conceived and that the implant helps me cause i heard right after you remove the implant you can conceived. i had always problems with my period so for me to get it soon i hope i could conceive soon.
Hello ladies :) I'm so glad i found this sight. I took the depo shot 2-6-14 after my 6th child was just 2 days old and i regret getting it every day... I'm almost 34 and have had normal cycles for years til it took just 1 shot of the poison that has messed my world up... I bleed for 4months straight then stopped then started again that lasted 2 weeks and then nothing again!! Hubby and in had my tubes untied 3-22-12 and the Lord blessed us with 2 more beautiful babies, i got the shot cause my first tubal reversal miracle was just 8wks old when it became pregnant with my little man that's 8months old now! )... so i just wanted that security for a few months of not becoming pregnant so soon. BAD choice in getting the depo! I'm happy with the 6 wonderful blessings the Lord has given hubby and I... but I'm just 33 (be 34 in Dec) I'll be devastated if i can't conceive =,(...
I beg any ladies to please not take this drug as it WIll have some type of awful effect... I have came to realize if the Lord didn't want me to have children he would choose so i shouldn't have taken that horrible posion known as the depo shot... It's not worth it ladies trust me... I spreAd much prayers and baby dust to every lady reading this. Bless you my dears... Love blessedw6
Hey, I've been looking for your post. I got the shot 10days after having a 20 week miscarriage and a 20 unit blood transfusion , I wanted my body to have a chance to heal before trying for another baby with a wonderful man who has no kids of his own, but stepped up to take care of me and the five amazing kids I have. Anyway, if you are still having trouble conceiving or other problems due to the poison shot you might want to try Wobenzyme N for fertility problems and any other health problems. When I read your post the first time I said a prayer for you, your husband and hopefully your growing family, may God bless you with your 7th child. He has blessed me with 5 amazing children and hopefully in the future with at least one more with an amazing man who deserves the chance for one of his own.
I personally was in depo for five yrs and now I was having baby fever I think depo does cause infertility and we women need think more and research things FDA are putting on market the hidden dangers we DNt know about these things they ate putting on market NO DEPO ///////////it's bad for our body the effects we will never no or what they are putting in it DANGEROUS
Iv been on the depo since 18 (6 days after giving birth to my son) im 23 now I really hope it doesnt make me infertile but iv had no problems with the drug at all in the 5 years of being on it
I only took the depo shot twice, I had my son at 19 and wasnt ready for another baby so I thought that this method was temporary, I was only 23 the second time I recieved this injection the doctor left the room for some reason and I noticed she left the paper that comes in the box out and in fine print under side effects it said could cause sterilization, she didn't tell me that part, she only said to take calcium supplements for my bones, now I'm 31, never been pregnant ever since I had my son, I wish I knew the long term effects
I just started taking Depo on April 21, 2014 (three days after I had a miscarrige). Got mine from Planned Parenthood since I didn't have a primary care doctor at the time.
I'm 30 and I currently do not have any children. My goal was to prevent further pregnancies until I can adjust my medication (I'm on Lithium).
The rest of April and all of May I didn't experience a period or any spotting (my guess, hormones readjusting). Now I've been spotting since June 1st.
I've had some blood work done (required because I'm on Lithium) and I found that both my white blood cell (WBC) and platelet counts are high.
WBC
My result: 11.7 K/UL
Normal: 4.0 - 11.0
- Not to high above the max, but I'm still concerned.
Platelet Count
My result: 503 K/UL
Normal: 130 - 400
- High platelet count can cause clots (This information was given to me by my psychiatrist when I asked if I should be worried about high platelet counts).
Based on some research that my psychiatrist and I have done, my high counts can be related to Depo. Apparently, this is a side effect.
I'm just curious if anyone here has had some blood work done and found abnormal values since starting Depo.
I was never informed that Depo could cause high WBC and platelet counts or infertility. I'm hoping that the few months I've been on Depo doesn't hurt my chances of becoming pregnant when I'm ready.
I've got a doctor's appointment on June 30th to find out if there are any other possible causes for my high WBC and platelet counts.
I do like the idea of taking Agnus Castus as LousArk suggested. I'll have to give it a shot depending on what my doctor finds.
I'll post an update after my doctor's appointment.
Hi I am very upset about the problems depo has caused me that I wasn't aware of at the time of injection. I have been taking depo injections off and on for about 12 years. One time I was on depo for about 5 yrs straight. In 2008 I gave birth to a premature child that passed away. While I was pregnant I had many complications. The doctor told me that that my lining was so thin that I couldn't hold a baby in my body. And that I may not be able to have children. Well since then I have gotten pregnant but have miscarried everytime . I also was diagnosed with type two diabetes 2 yrs ago. Lower back pain that's unbearable. So many issues that was never explained to me or brought up at my appts while taking depo. My significant other and I have been trying to conceive and can not do so. I'm very upset about this. And something should be done!!! I am so amazed at how many other women are going thru the same things as I am.
I know that I'm not alone now.:( And I think depo should be taken off the market. Because its making women have infertility. And were thinking that its a short term method!! Not a LONG TERM effect.
Hello, I sure hope you read my reply. Your comment about the thin lining in the uterus is why I started looking into natural ways to thicken the uterus lining, I wanted to stop and repair damage from depo before it had a chance to do more damage. I found out about this great supplement that might help a lot with thickening uterin lineing, getting rid of cysts along, detoxifying ( I want this poison out of me) hormonal balance and so many other health issues. Its called Wobenzyme N, it was on the fertility website, I have done so much research on it, so have a lot of doctors and scientists. They have seen a lot of success, even with cancer patients, its supposed to help the entire body. I am so sorry for your troubles. I sure hope you read this and thank you very much. May God bless you.
Been a practicing doctor for some time now. Any medication can have severe and permanent complications but the likely hood of this happening can be very rare. I would not recommend depo to anyone because of the relative "newness" of this medications and the relative permanent complications it could have. You should consult with your personal doctor about depo but I highly do not recommend any medication to block fertility in woman, just think about what you could be doing to your potential child in the future. I wouldn't take any meds that could directly affect my child's birth in the future. period.
DON'T TAKE THIS SHOT... I come from a very healty fertile family..mom..sister.. Aunts..cousins all have 5+more children..after my first child I stayed on depo for about 6 years..HUGE MISTAKE... its been 10years later & I still can't conceive..my husband and I are really depressed about it..this shot will definitely MAKE YOU INFERTILE... LISTEN TO ALL THE OTHER COMMENTS AS WELL!!! If I would of known now about it..I would have never taken it... BESIDES OF COURSE YOUR DR WILL NOT TELL YOU IT CAUSES INFERTILITY... LIES LIES LIES..IM SO UPSET!!
Omg! I was just told the other day by a friend that she heard how depo could be the cause of infertility. I too was never told that this could be a side effect. I was put on depo by my mother when I was 14. I continued to be injected until 2008 when IKE hit. After that, being fortunitly forced to see another doctor, I was told to stop. However, only saying the reason was that it could deplete your bone density. Nothing still about infertility. I discussed with every nurse I saw when receiving these shots that my periods were not normal, to even the point of stopping completely. All that was said was this was "normal", and I continued not to question. Even since IKE, thinking that I would go back to normal, my periods have not. Only being either extremely light, to none at all. I too have been to the ER for a ruptured cyst in 2009, but with every doctor explaining that these side effects are "normal".
Since stopping depo, I have been in a relationship for going on our 7th year, we have been tring to start our family with no success. Thinking of other factors, I put it away as we just aren't ready for this gift yet. Unfortunately, more worries have pushed me into thinking something worse. Sex now has also gotten to the point of painful, and funny enough every time it starts to hurt, my description of where, is my ovary. After reading yalls messages, and a few of enlarged ovaries, before I was just thinking maybe it was what we were doing. Now there will be no hesitation to call yet another doctor come Monday. If they confirm that there is a serious problem, and due to taking depo. My next step will be calling a prescription law firm. From what im hearing, and you all already confirming my worries that in my heart I already knew. One of my biggest dreams is to become a mom, if thats been taking, LORD help the people who took it. I hope that you all do the same, and fight. Im not big on protests or making a seen, but not fighting for what's right, is wrong. Im sorry but THIS IS WRONG! Wrong for you woman who have already suffered. Wrong for the woman, like me, who didn't know, and wrong for the woman young and old who are still being told that this drug is an option. Please, respond to my post. One voice can start it, but these days never enough to finish. If something was already started to put an end to this, please let me know, and I will gladly put more volume to your voice.
I totally agree something should be done!! I have been on the Depo for 9 months and decided in June this year was the perfect time to come off and try for a second baby with my bf as my dd is nearly 3. I was due to go for my 4th shot on June 18th but didn't, then 7 days later I came on my period for 7 days, i was quite shocked because the nurse told me there would be a delay in periods for which i thought would be a couple of months.. So i became excited and me and my bf began ttc. Im now 3 weeks late and having all the symptoms of being pregnant but having negative tests so went to my Dr. However what was told i wasn't expecting. He basically laughed at me when i told him i thought i was pregnant and explained that its all to do with the depo and that i shouldn't be expecting a period of upto 6 months (which is a lie) and that it can be hard to conceive. Well i left feeling more confused than ever.
So took to googling if this is a common thing with women in the same boat and am truly horrified. All these poor women who have now become INFERTILE !! Why were we not told about the problems it can cause, i was never told about fertility problems, side effects etc and now im extremely angry because not only am i worried about never falling pregnant again but now im angry we were never told. I agree this needs sorting and my advice to women would be STAY WELL CLEAR OF THE DEPO!!
If you do get a law suit going let me know, I'm pretty sure I might not get taken seriously ( I have 5 amazing kids from before depo, my fiance has none of his own) they will most likely say I don't need anymore but if I can help let me know. You might want to try Wobenzyme N though, it seems promising, I'm gonna start it as soon as my order gets here to try to fix and stop damage from that nasty poison shot known as depo.
I'm similar to this in all ways. I'm with you because I feel the same way.
The shot caused my infertility. Before I started getting the shot I was fine. I was on it for four years. Once I got off it took 2 1/2 years for my period to show up. It took another year for it to show up every month. I went to see a specialist, my tubes are open, and I ovulate. I have not gotten pregnant and have been trying for 10 years. My hubby and I gave up.
You might want to try something I found on a natural fertility website called Wobezymen N. It might help, it also could help with a host of other help problems.
Hi! I just turned 20 and my fiance and I have been together for 2 years. I was on depo for 2 years and have been off of it for 2 years. I just got my first period again about 7 months ago and my fiance and I immediately began trying to concieve. Ive taken ovulation tests everyday from the day after my period to the day before my next and never had a positive result. My periods were regular up until about 2 months ago. I began having 2 periods a month usually just a few days apart. STILL NO OVULATION!!! Im getting very worried but have not had time to see my doctor. Oh I also had a miscarriage 3 months into my pregnancy about a month before starting depo. Praying everything is okay. We really want kids!!
It's common for it to take 18 months to regain fertility. The Agnus Castus I recommended above, is known to rebalance hormones naturally. Worth investigating?
I was on the depo when I was younger aim know 30 and I did not get told from the doctor that it can cause infertility or anything like that and if I was told I would not have taken it. I came off in November of 09 just before I got married as we wanted more kids as we have two just know. We have had to go thou so Meany test to try and find out why I could to get pregnant no one even the doctor could not under stand why aim not getting pregnant after nearly 4years of trying.to get pregnant the doctors has said that they do not no why it's happen to us. now we where told that it's some thing they call unexplained infertility. I have only I thing (DO NOT TAKE THE DEPO) we have to go and pay out lots of money for IVF know as there it nothing any one can do and it pots lots of stress on the two of you.

I am 20 years old now, I have been off the shot for I believe 2 years now. My periods are difficult to even explain, sometimes regular sometimes not. When I was on the depo it was maybe only less than a year but it stopped my period completely. I have been with my Fiancee for 3 years now and have wanted to start our family, We have been trying but nothing. I am extremely worried I will never be able to have a child. I am scared the depo messed me up. They NEVER warned me about infertility, I only got onto the shot because of my mother. She did not want me to be a teenage mother like my sister who got pregnant at 16, Now I am 20 and my mom wants a grandchild again and I want a child, but I can't seem to get pregnant, I cry all the time because I just recently got my hopes up by being 3 1/2 weeks late and having symptoms..but surely enough my period started and ruined my dream. I do not believe anyone should take this AT ALL. stop while you are ahead.
Try taking Agnus Castus from a health food store. It got my periods back on track, so should help.
I get the A. Vogel brand. A tincture you put into a little water twice daily. It's about £8-9 in the UK.
This is exactly happening to me. I took the shot for 2 years 17-18, I Got off of it at 19. When I finally did get my period back I would be irregular sometimes and than regular so it was always hard to pin point my ovulation cycle. So I had tried conceiving all through the month. However I am currently 23 about to turn 24 and still can't conceive. I soo scared I won't ever get pregnant now!
I was 21 years old when I found out that I was having my first kid I was 22 years old when I had him he was six weeks early I had to have him in Denver because I had high blood purser I am now 24 and almost 25 feb 19th I had my son march 30 2012 he is almost three I am having a hard time having a baby in 2013 I stop the depo shot and having a hard time having a baby now me and my fiancée have been to gather almost 4 years we are getting married this year march 28th 2015 can it's also depend on the guy's size to why I am not having another baby I asked my OBGYN if the deop shot had any thing to do with it and she said no I was 130 when I found out I was pregnant with my son Lucas and now we are ready to have a other baby but the doctor is giving me ten days pills to start my periods help me plz and also trying to have a other baby I am high risk because I have seizures and I had I blood purser with my son I had to get flew to Denver at 34 weeks my son was born there so you lady's help I am tying to start a periods. my name is Sara
Honey, do NOT take this medicine for long periods of time. I took it for 3 years straight and I got off the meds. Well, I have been having regular periods since I got off the shot, unlike before the shots, but now I have had a hard time concieving. I concieved once and it ended in a bad miscarriage. DO NOT take this medicine if you are concerned with the long term effects. I was unaware after taking it until I researched it about a year ago and I am regretting I have.
After having my second son at the age of 23, fourteen months after my first, I decided Depo might be for me as it was pushed by my Dr.
I am turning 32 next month and I still to this day have not been able to get pregnant and I have irregular periods.
THIS SHOT RUINED A PART OF MY LIFE! I never would have taken it if I knew I would not be able to have more children!
Looking back I wish...
My Granddaughter has been on Depo shots for a couple of years and now she is in severe pain on morphine for a while. A cyst on her ovarie. They said she has 3 of them ( cyst). I will be so upset if this shot caused it and becomes infertile due to the shots. To think she would never have a family will be awful. I hope not. We are and have always been a very fertile family of women. Never a problem.
My granddaughter is in the same boat I am so upset. She has had much problems and now ruptured cysts on her overies. Even not being on birth control now there is no pregnancies. She had the derpro for a year or 2 . They said depro has been know to cause cysts. Why couldn't they tell us it could lead to infertility? I am one angry grandmother knowing my granddaughter may never have her wonderful family.
I've done a lot of research about infertility, repairing damage, and the depo shot. One thing ya might want to research and have your granddaughter try is Wobenzyme N, I've read a lot about it getting rid of cysts and healing damage. I am so sorry for you, God bless.
I have been on it for nine years and want kids should I stop taking the shot. Please give me some help and im 29 years old I went on it when I was 21
