Can you use adapalene and Duobrii together?
Adapalene and Duobrii (halobetasol and tazarotene) can be used together, since they are FDA approved for different skin conditions.
- Adapalene is a topical retinoid that may be used to treat acne.
- Duobrii is a combination of a topical steroid and retinoid that may be used to treat psoriasis.
Applying both medications to the same area of skin can lead to more side effects, since both contain a retinoid. These side effects usually occur at the application site, and may include:
- Pain
- Redness
- Scaling
- Dryness
- Itching
- Burning or stinging
If you need to apply both medications on the same area of skin, ask your dermatologist or other healthcare provider if you can space out the dosing to avoid side effects. For example, you may be able to apply one medication in the morning and the other at night.
Follow up with your doctor or other healthcare provider if you have questions about using multiple skin products at the same time.

How does Ilumya work to treat psoriasis?
Ilumya works by binding selectively to interleukin-23 (IL-23) which is a naturally occurring cytokine. IL-23 plays a key role in promoting inflammation and regulating other cytokines (such as IL-17) and inflammatory substances, such as TNF-α3-7. By blocking the effects of IL-23, Ilumya helps control the release of IL-17 and TNF-α, which reduces inflammation associated with psoriasis. It also decreases how many inflammatory cells are present within psoriatic lesions, helps prevent plaque formation, and resolves tissue damage. Continue reading
