Drug Interactions between Capozide 50/25 and Prevacid NapraPAC 500
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Capozide 50/25 (captopril/hydrochlorothiazide)
- Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole/naproxen)
Interactions between your drugs
captopril naproxen
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide) and Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Talk to your doctor before using captopril together with naproxen. Combining these medications may reduce the effects of captopril in lowering blood pressure. In addition, these medications may affect your kidney function, especially when they are used together frequently or chronically. You are more likely to develop impaired kidney function during treatment with these medications if you are also using a diuretic ("water pill") or if you are elderly or have preexisting kidney disease. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you experience signs and symptoms that may suggest kidney damage such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, increased or decreased urination, sudden weight gain or weight loss, fluid retention, swelling, shortness of breath, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, confusion, and irregular heart rhythm. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
captopril hydroCHLOROthiazide
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide) and Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide)
Although captopril and hydroCHLOROthiazide are frequently combined together, their effects may be additive on lowering your blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. Contact your doctor if you have a reduced heart rate, dizziness, fainting, or headaches. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naproxen hydroCHLOROthiazide
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen) and Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide)
Before taking hydroCHLOROthiazide, tell your doctor if you also use naproxen. You may need dose adjustments or special tests in order to safely take both medications together. If you are receiving this combination drink plenty of water. Blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored as well. It is important that you tell your healthcare provider about all other medications that you are using including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using your medications without first talking to your doctor.
naproxen lansoprazole
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen) and Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Talk to your doctor before using naproxen together with lansoprazole. Using these medications together may affect the enteric coating of naproxen, causing the medication to be released too early in the body. This can make naproxen less effective. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
hydroCHLOROthiazide lansoprazole
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide) and Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Chronic use of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors including lansoprazole can sometimes cause hypomagnesemia (low blood levels of magnesium), and the risk may be further increased when combined with other medications that also have this effect such as hydroCHLOROthiazide. In severe cases, hypomagnesemia can lead to irregular heart rhythm, palpitations, muscle spasm, tremor, and seizures. In children, abnormal heart rhythm may cause fatigue, upset stomach, dizziness, and lightheadedness. A dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by the doctor may be required to safely use both medications. If you are using an over-the-counter proton pump inhibitor medication such as Prilosec OTC, Zegerid OTC or Prevacid 24 HR, you should follow the directions on the package carefully. Do not use the medication more frequently or for a longer period than recommended on the label unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
captopril food
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide)
It is recommended that if you are taking captopril you should be advised to avoid moderately high or high potassium dietary intake. This can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking captopril, unless your doctor has told you to.
captopril food
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide)
Captopril and ethanol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
naproxen food
Applies to: Prevacid NapraPAC 500 (lansoprazole / naproxen)
Ask your doctor before using naproxen together with ethanol. Do not drink alcohol while taking naproxen. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by naproxen. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
hydroCHLOROthiazide food
Applies to: Capozide 50 / 25 (captopril / hydrochlorothiazide)
