Drug Interactions between budesonide / formoterol and propranolol
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- budesonide/formoterol
- propranolol
Interactions between your drugs
propranolol formoterol
Applies to: propranolol and budesonide / formoterol
Using propranolol together with formoterol may reduce the benefits of both medications, since they have opposing effects in the body. In addition, propranolol can sometimes cause narrowing of the airways, which may worsen your breathing problems or trigger severe asthmatic attacks. Propranolol is normally not recommended if you have asthma, a history of asthma, or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact or are less likely to interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
propranolol budesonide
Applies to: propranolol and budesonide / formoterol
Budesonide may reduce the effects of propranolol in lowering blood pressure. The interaction is most likely to occur when budesonide is used for more than a week, since prolonged use can cause sodium and water retention. Let your doctor know if you experience sudden, unexplained weight gain or swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
budesonide formoterol
Applies to: budesonide / formoterol and budesonide / formoterol
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
Drug and food interactions
propranolol food
Applies to: propranolol
Food can enhance the levels of propranolol in your body. You shoud take propranolol at the same time each day, preferably with or immediately following meals. This will make it easier for your body to absorb the medication. Avoid drinking alcohol, which could increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking propranolol. Propranolol is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely.
budesonide food
Applies to: budesonide / formoterol
You should avoid the regular consumption of large amounts of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking budesonide. Grapefruit can raise the levels of budesonide in your body and lead to increased side effects. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.
propranolol food
Applies to: propranolol
Using propranolol together with multivitamin with minerals may decrease the effects of propranolol. Separate the administration times of propranolol and multivitamin with minerals by at least 2 hours. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
