For Urinary Tract Infection "This trimethoprim medication is dreadful, the side effects seem to hang on well after finishing the course. I’ve used this medication a few times and thought it was only me with side effects. I have a thyroid disorder, and this medication has absolutely sent my blood reading all over the place, which results in my thyroid medication being lowered each time. Terrible insomnia, my body ached all over, and itchy. These side effects still linger two months later, it’s literally destroyed my gut and wrecked my insides. All I’m doing now is working on trying to rectify this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was prescribed 2 tablets per day over 3 days... let's just say I would rather have put up with the UTI. These tablets need banning. I'm currently on my third day in bed with the worst migraine, body shakes, itchy skin, loose bowel movement, and intense thirst. At night, my mind is racing with thoughts (like a slideshow flicking at speed). I would never take these tablets again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was given a 3-day course of 200 mg tablets for a bladder infection, and I was dubious about taking them, and now I know why. I took my first one yesterday evening, and my side effect symptoms began with itchy skin, blurred vision, and the start of a headache. I went to bed early because I felt weak, then kept waking in the night, and each time my mouth was extremely dry. I woke with a bad headache today and will not be taking any more of that antibiotic. I think we are all just lab rats."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was prescribed trimethoprim (in the UK) 2x200mg for a UTI. Within an hour of taking the first one, I was suffering from a killer headache, lightheadedness, nausea, and heart palpitations. Wore off after 4 hours. After taking the second tablet, I actually passed out! Same symptoms, only multiplied by 10. Had used these tablets before with no side effects and actually wondered if it was more than a UTI. Had a restless night, unable to sleep, itchy skin, felt as if there was something crawling underneath my skin. Took the third tablet in the morning and oh my god, I was unable to speak, could hardly walk, wasn't able to eat, couldn't pee, and my heart was racing. I will never take these tablets again and strongly advise anyone else to do the same."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had trimethoprim for a UTI, one a day. The first night, I had the most horrible acid reflux all night, woke up the next morning with the sorest throat in the world and about 2 hours of sleep. Then, after night 2, I experienced a massive headache where I couldn't put my headset on to work, and I felt so tired. By night 3, I was a bit itchy on my arms, and a rash developed, but the UTI had gone by then, so I stopped treatment. If a doctor recommends alprim again, I'm going to say no."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm on day 3 of this medication, and before reading these reviews, I have had a migraine that won't go away, shaky hands, trembling, paranoia, dry mouth, nausea, and the itchiest skin. These are all of the symptoms I've read of people that have taken this, it's actually scary, worth reading up before you take something new."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was given ALPRIM for a bladder infection. I was told to take it in the evening with food. The first night I nearly went mad, I had nausea, itching, headache, pain in my lower legs and feet. Then on day 2, a severe rash appeared, and my feet both swelled. They were also red raw, I thought I must have had gout. Day 3, I took another tablet, and the rash spread on both legs. The pain was unbearable, moods were hard to live with. I have had infected cellulitis, and that was painful, but nothing like this. So on day 4, the lower legs all blistered, and I was in shocking pain. So that was the end of ALPRIM-never again. It is 3 weeks later, and the legs are slowly coming back to normal, still very red. So please be aware of this medication, and if you notice any changes in yourself, stop it. I will never take it again."

For Bladder Infection "I took the 200 mg strength and was given 16 tablets. On the morning in which I took the very last dose, I came out in the most horrendous rash I have ever experienced and have been told I must never take that drug again. The rash, over a period of about 3 hours, spread over my entire body, including my face. I was hot and itchy beyond belief. My doctor was absolutely shocked, as she said that any reaction usually appears after taking just a few tablets. I'm in the U.K., so some questions are not relevant to me."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was given a 3-day course of trimethoprim 200 mg twice a day. By day three, although UTI pain had gone, I started to feel so ill. Lethargic, achy, itchy, and nauseous, and by day five, I felt so nauseous I struggled to eat much at all. Now, nearly a month later, I still feel rough, have a very uncomfortable stomach and bowel, and feel constantly nauseous, just generally unwell. I think this antibiotic has played havoc with my system, and it is going to take a while for my body to fully recover. I won’t be having it again, I will ask for something different."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Taken for a UTI. I started having headaches with them and itching. Then, after a few days, I was covered in a rash, and my face had swollen up. I found it difficult to swallow. I had hives all inside my mouth. I had an allergic reaction to the tablet."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This drug worked very well for me and cleared up my UTI in a matter of 48 hours, although I was on a 7-day course of 2x200 mg daily. Unfortunately, once the tablets finished, the infection returned, so I needed a 2nd course. I'm currently taking a low dose in the evening to keep the infection at bay while the specialists do some tests. I normally get every side effect going and dread taking new medication in any form, especially after a horrific experience with Ciprofloxacin, but the only side effect I experienced with this was itchy ankles and feet on day two, but that didn't last into the third day, so I would class this as a minor side effect and insignificant. Good luck."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this drug for the second time. 24-48 hours later, developed an itch which erupted into a huge blister on my penis - it is a kind of allergic reaction called a Fixed Drug Eruption. Was sent to the Emergency Department. Later, consulted dermatologists who confirmed rare and serious side effects of this drug."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Started trimethoprim course for UTI. 4 hours later, wanting to rip my skin off, the itching, unbearable, kept me awake all night. 2nd night, same thing, been awake, scratching the hives. My skin is sore, red, and angry. Allergic reaction? I am not too happy myself. But just want to get rid of the UTI."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Prescribed trimethoprim for UTI one a day for 2 weeks. It has set off my migraines, and I had to stay in bed for 2 days. I can’t eat, feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach, nausea 24/7, rash all over body, plus itching. Worst experience of antibiotic ever !!"

For Bladder Infection "I have already taken a full course of antibiotics, and the UTI did not clear. The doctor then prescribed 2 x 200 mg daily of trimethoprim. I have taken 4 (2 days), and last night I got a really bad itch across the bridge of my feet, and I could have clawed them off! I've been feeling nauseous and not great at night, restless. I don't think I will be taking these again. However, the UTI symptoms have eased slightly."
