"I managed to go ten years without taking anything then my restless leg started up terribly on an evening resulting in a major lack of sleep. My sleep pattern went out the window. I was prescribed a dose of 150mg but I only take 100mg a night and so keep a few spare trazadone for if ever I feel my dose needs upping. I’ve been taking 100mg trazadone for about 6 months now. My restless leg almost stopped immediately. Once you get over the initial first few weeks and let the trazadone get into your system it works amazingly well. I take 100mg about 30 minutes before sleep. I have bipolar too and occasional depression with anxiety and mood swings. The trazadone has completely calmed all that side of me down and definitely helps with sleep. The first few weeks can be tough with the headaches, dry mouth, and brain fog. But once it’s in your system it worked for me very well"

"I was prescribed 50mg Trazadone in conjunction with 150mg wellbutrin as the wellbutrin alone wasn't sufficiently lifting my mood, and I couldn't tolerate the 300mg wellbutrin. I took it for several months, it definitely helps for sleep, didn't have trouble sleeping once while on it- which is unusual for me. But I felt awful in the mornings, foggy and headachy, like I'd been drinking a lot. I do drink a glass of wine a night, so that may exacerbate the side effects- I did feel a little better when I stopped drinking for a while. Eventually I got tired of feeling garbage all day, and have gone off it. I've been off two days, had trouble sleeping last night but can't believe how much better I feel! This is the first time in months I've woken up with a clear head. My depression is under control at the moment so will continue with just the wellbutrin."

"I started out on a quarter of a 50 mg Trazadone tablet every other night at bedtime. I did this for a week then increased to a quarter tab every night. After two nights of one quarter tablets I started waking with a stuffy nose and a headache. Morning 3, I was in a full blown migraine and had to take zomig. I have attempted this exact process 4 times now with weeks in between (no trazadone) to make sure it is a side effect of the medicine. Now, I am sure Trazadone is causing the headaches and I never have taken more than 1/4."

"I took this medicine for the first time last night and I will never take it again. My doctor told me to take a half of the 100mg before bed. It knocked me out for 14 hours, I woke up and felt in a daze, I was unsteady on my feet, I had THE WORST migraine of my life to the point where I couldn't get out of bed. I felt terribly nauseous. I ended up calling out of work."

"My psychiatrist put me on this over Seroquel which had been causing my white blood cell count to drop. I had been on Seroquel for years, and was able to function on it. Not so with Trazodone. The 50 mg I started on put me to sleep, but I felt really groggy the next day. I've tried lowering the dose to 25 mg and I still feel absolutely tired. Some of the side effects I've had: bad cough, runny nose (at times), feeling like I have a constant mild headache, feeling disconnected sexually, sweatiness, and the last one is the most bothersome--erectile dysfunction. Sometimes, I can get a full erection, and sometimes I can only get about 3/4 of the way there. I'm going to fight to get back on the Seroquel which I still have and never caused any erectile dysfunction."

"I started taking trazodone years ago for restless leg syndrome. It helps me a lot at night. I have found that missing even a single dose, I have withdrawals that are very unpleasant. My muscles go into spasms all over my body, and I become very miserable and can't sleep. Make sure you never skip a dose."

"I have taken 50mg of Trazodone on two non consecutive nights and have had very severe side effects. Both nights, I recall having an extremely high heart rate, a massive headache caused by sinus pressure, it caused extreme post Nasal drip, and I had trouble swallowing because of the dry mouth. By 430 am on the second night that I tried taking Trazodone I took an Atavan because I was panicking because I could not sleep. Afterwards I felt incredibly dizzy, because the two medications don't mix well together. Tonight I decided I would skip the medication and see if I could sleep without it. It is 1247 am and I'm still awake. I spent a night last week in a sleep disorder lap, but I was unable to sleep there either."

"This medication is HORRIBLE. It was prescribed to me by my psychiatrist for depression and it worked for about a week. After that week was over, I began feeling absolutely miserable. I've never been this depressed and suicidal in my life."

"On Trazdone for bipolar 2. Went to the ER because my depression was terrible. Told nurse that I was having trouble sleeping. She said her husband takes it and loves it, that it has a very short half life, and doesn’t make you groggy in morning. She gave me the 50mgs. I am highly sensitive to meds. Also on klonopin as needed. My dreams are pretty messed up but it does induce sleep for me, I wake up groggy but coffee wakes me, for the entire day I’m alert and awake but not moving or exercising, eating like a savage, horny as can be. After reading reviews I’ve decided to call it quits after a few nights. Was hoping this would be my miracle drug because I’d been on so many other things in the past but never this one. I feel stoned on it like I have no filter and just say whatever comes to mind, just feel strange and even a bit paranoid about certain little things. Sure does lift my mood though even though I’ve been a total cow today.Bye bye trazodone."

"I was put on Trazodone (name brand DESYREL) back in the late 1980's for depression and anxiety brought on by childhood trauma/abuse. Doc also had me take a L-Tryptophan every 12 hours. Trazodone 150mg at bedtime. Now I am an adult 52 and a recent trigger plunged me back into nightmares/anxiety/depression/ with thoughts of suicide. I asked my family doc for Trazadone 50mg before bed. I will start there and work up to a dose that puts my life back in order. L-Tryptophan is an OTC vitamin. 50mg gives me about 4 hours of "decent" sleep. The nightmares are still happening. I will work to slowly increase to 150mg or to a dose that keeps the nightmares away. A good side effect is it tends to work kinda like Viagra with regard to morning erections. As a teenage male I didn't notice this side effect. At 52, it is definitely a welcomed side effect."

"I have been taking Trazodone for nearly 18 years. For the most part of this period I have taken 150mg dose. I have never experienced any severe side effects on this medication. However if I miss a dose, I have incredibly bad nightmares and very agitated. To a lesser degree whilst taking these tablets I have a very dry mouth, slight dizziness when standing. The positives are a slightly lifted mood and reduced anxiety. More recently I have been prescribed 300mgs, this was to help with anxiety and extreme depression. The increased dose worked brilliantly for the anxiety and depression, however I experienced Priapism and was reduced back to 150mg."

Desyrel (trazodone) "Was given Trazodone to help fall asleep. While it did do that a few times. But it more or less simply made me lazy. Each day I had zip motivation to do anything but sit around. I wasn't sleepy just seemed to cause me not to want to do anything. Didn't even want to engage in conversation with anyone although I did not feel moody. While I do take Klonopin in the AM for anxiety, it doesn't help with my sleep. And also Klonopin didn't cause the extreme groggy, malaise or drugged feeling. But this medication did 'sedate' somewhat so it may be helpful in certain situations. I am looking for a more long-term everyday kind of med."

"Started this just a week ago 50mg. I’ve never had anxiety, stress, or depression. But had a lot happen within a month and just brought me down. The anxiety was causing me to lose sleep or wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. Brain fog and trouble focusing. The first night (Sunday) taking this I slept all night and woke up less stressed and started feeling like myself. Brain fog has slowly gone away. Today is Thursday Feb.25,2021 and I can tell such a difference. I missed a dose on Wednesday and definitely can tell. But I recommend this for sure. I’ve had no side effects other than a headache."

"I'm 17 female and am taking 200mg of trazodone at night for sleep purposes, and I take 100mg in the morning to help with anxieties. Trazodone really helps with anxieties, and insomnia but only on higher doses. It hasn't really helped with lifting my mood. I've had no side effects from trazodone."

"I'm 17, female and am on 400mg of trazodone now. I used to take 100mg in the morning for my anxiety but it made me more tired in the mornings. That's the only side effect I have had. I'm not on 350mg at night to help with my insomnia and 50mg in the morning to help with anxieties. It helps with sleep and anxieties but not with my depression unfortunately."

"Not so effective as an antidepressant like sertraline or that kind, but not weight gain and sexual effects with this and easier to quit. It's good depending on which battle you want to fight. I personally prefer a mild anti depressant with no side effects and try to get better with exercise, food, supplements, yoga or whatever."

"I started taking trazadone (100mg) 10 years ago. It worked like a charm for sleep. I'd sleep a good 7 hours, and had no hang over effects. A few weeks ago it just stopped working. So my doctor raised the dose to 300mg. I feel so much better mentally. But, it's still not keeping me asleep. I go to sleep for about 2 hours then I'm up once every hour. I miss my good sleep so much!"

"I have been on Trazodone for about 30 years I have bipolar 11 I take 100mg it helps with my sleep but, if I wake up in the the middle of the night I cannot go back to sleep. It does not help with depression too much. I also take Depakote and Xanax to help with mood swings and anxiety. I have taken just about every antidepressant medicine on the market nothing seems to work. I spoke with head doctor today an asked her to up my Trazodone back to 200mgs thought I was doing so good and I have to go back up. I sit and cry half the day. I'm so sad. Been in the hospital 5 times for thoughts of suicide. Just don't know what to do but, I'm staying on my Trazodone."

"I have taken 50mg now for several years for depression and to aid sleep. It takes about 30 minutes to knock me out. However, I am up again in about 3 hours, which is frustrating but to be fair, I also take Tramadol for pain relief, so this may be an interaction of the tablets. I tend to feel a little groggy all day, and I also wake up with a headache."

"I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety just under 10 weeks ago. I didn't sleep for 11 nights which made my symptoms unbearable. My brain just wouldn't switch off & I was in a really dark place. I was put on 15mg of mirtazapine, it knocked me out at night but I felt worse, spaced out & suicidal & still did after 5 weeks. My gp swapped me to trazodone....I'm on 200mg & it does nothing to help me sleep. I have to take a 7.5mg zopliclone tablet as well each night just to get some rest. My mood has been a little better since taking trazodone but it's even worse when I can't sleep. My GP isn't happy so far with the results from trazodone, 5 weeks on, so may swap me to fluoxetine after giving it another 2 more weeks."

"I have been taking 50mg of Trazadone for a couple of weeks now and had to raise them tonight to 100mg. After around 30 minutes my mouth is so dry and my nose feels totally blocked so I'm breathing with my mouth open. Is this a side effect and will it go away once I take these another few days or should I drop back to 50 mg for another while anyone help."

"This is the worst! I had traumatic dreams and I already suffer from PTSD and major depression. It took me hours to fall asleep and I had horrible constipation too. I give this an F in my grade book. I’m now on both Seroquel and Zoloft, minus some minor side effects they get A’s."

"I took 25 mg of Trazodone for the first time less than 24 hours ago and wow this sucks. Honestly feels like a rough hangover the next day. Within an hour of taking it before bed, my muscles were twitching and my heart rate was around 90 bpm just laying in bed. I woke up groggy, dizzy, and nauseous and my muscles felt all weak and messed up - I fell back in bed just standing up. Throughout the day the twitches have gone away but the headache is rough and the nausea is that constant almost-going-to-throw-up nausea. I was prescribed to take Trazodone along with 200mg Bupropion XR, so I’m not sure how much of this could be drug interactions or minor serotonin syndrome. Anyways, I can’t find an antidepressant that works but I would recommend starting elsewhere and taking Trazodone as a last resort."
