For Anxiety "I have been taking Trazodone for chronic insomnia and anxiety now for over 3 years. It helps me fall asleep and lets me sleep quite well for about 7 hours. The only side effects I have noticed are mild headaches and slight dizziness after first taking it."

For Insomnia "I have taken Trazodone at bedtime for over 20 years. I have learned to adjust my bedtime dose and take from 25 to 100 mg before bed. I take it as I get into bed. I began taking it as a 30 something because anxiety and worry kept me from falling and staying asleep. Now that I am older, I need to use the bathroom during the night so do wake up but usually can fall right back to sleep. If I have caffeine in the afternoon and evening, I take the higher dose at night because I won't get a good sleep. I wake fine in the morning and do have a cup of coffee while I wake up fully. I have found if I miss taking a dose at night, I can fall asleep but not deeply. And I may have odd thought like dreams throughout the night. Also, when on the Trazodone, I do not dream or at least do not remember any dreams. I believe that it is a good sleep aid and that some haven't given themselves time to adjust to it as a sleep aid."

For Sedation "I was prescribed 1/2 to 2 tablets of 50 mg Trazodone to help with my disturbed sleep, and it has been a miracle! I do not know how long it has been that I have slept at least 7 hours straight without waking up several times during the night. I also have anxiety and depression and have been prescribed Effexor. The combination of these two drugs has helped tremendously thus far. It has only been a week, and I have had very mild side effects of headache, nausea, and dry mouth. Those are slowly dissipating and becoming less and less. I used to wake up with this worry feeling in the pit of my stomach, in a head fog, and fatigued. So far, those feelings have gone away. My personal problems haven't gone away, but I am able to handle them."

For Headache "Trazodone has been a miracle for me. It has helped my headaches, which I was having daily. It also has caused me to lose some weight, which makes me feel better. It has also helped with my anxiety. Only problem I have had so far is that if I take it too late at night, I will feel groggy in the morning. I am on 100mg."

For Anxiety "I had previously tried Cipralex, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Abilify, lamotrigine, mirtazapine, and benzodiazepines for my persistent anxiety. I heard that trazodone was a 'weak' antidepressant, but its anxiolytic properties work magic for me. Unlike the other medications I tried, I have hardly experienced any side effects except for some grogginess in the mornings. While its sedating effects aren't strong for me (I take Seroquel/clonazepam if required to fall asleep during stressful periods), my anxiety during the day and night has subsided considerably."

For Depression "I've been on trazodone for a while. It made me feel terrible, I couldn't control my mind. I thought it was me, and all along it was trazodone. Terrible drug! Please think before you take this, it has ruined my life. I felt scared all the time, really shaky and anxious. I've stopped it now."

For Insomnia "Because of depression, I had developed insomnia. My doctor had prescribed me Ambien, but that wore off real quick, and it wasn't working anymore. Then I was feeling even more depressed because I was worrying about sleeplessness, which led me to a vicious cycle. Then I tried this Trazodone, it has been a godsend for me. I feel normal again, sleep like a baby, at first, before Trazodone, I was sleeping about three hours or so. I have 50 mg and 100 mg. I usually go with 50 mg, and I'm a pretty big dude, 250 lbs. Just take it with a little food before bedtime, if you don't, it won't work as well. Good luck and be patient if you're new to this drug. You have to do a little experiment on yourself with this before you get it right as far as dosage and time."

For Insomnia "I have been suffering from chronic insomnia for a few years and have tried many different medications, sleeping pills, and techniques. Everything I tried did nothing more than make me drowsy or uncomfortable. Trazodone, however, puts me straight to sleep on time every time when taken half an hour before sleeping, and I wake up having had a restful sleep."

For Insomnia "Took 100mg for the first time last night. Don't think I rolled over all night - my hip is aching this morning, possibly because I slept in one position. I slept through my alarm this morning. Three cups of coffee later, I'm still groggy. I'll try 50mg tonight and see if it works without the side effects. I'd advise starting at a low dosage and working your way up."

Trazodone for Depression "I have taken about 10 different antidepressants and always had to stop because of the severity of side effects. I have been on Trazodone for over 6 years and love it. It is the only medicine I have tried that doesn't give me horrible side effects. I had to keep upping the dosage in the beginning but soon found a dose that worked. The greatest benefit is that it helps me sleep. I have severe insomnia and my depression gets out of control after too many days of not sleeping and trazodone combined with Ambien is helpful. I have no other side effects from it. The difference in depressive symptoms is not dramatic but is helpful. I recommend it for people who have a rough time with side effects from other medicines and for those who can't fall asleep."

For Insomnia "My psych prescribed trazodone 50 mg when I first started seeing her. I took it one time and still didn't sleep so I tossed it. A few nights ago I was so frustrated because I hadn't slept for days so I tore the medicine cabinet apart looking for anything that would make me sleep. I found the trazodone. I took one and bam, I was out like a light for 8 hours. Guess I will give it another shot now!"

For Anxiety "I was prescribed this medication several years ago for anxiety disorder and depression, with serious insomnia. It worked like a charm to help me get a really good night's sleep and saved my sanity. I took it daily for about 2 years. It really knocked me out, so that if someone woke me in the middle of the night, I was pretty much incoherent and felt heavily drugged. I did feel alert and rested in the morning. The worst thing for me was a rare side effect that caused my bone marrow to stop producing white blood cells. A swollen lymph node resulted in a blood test, which showed no white blood cells at all. I was scared of cancer, but my doctor told me to stop taking this drug and the tests afterward were back to normal. I suggest you get blood tests if on this medication."

For Sedation "I started taking Trazodone about 3-4 years ago to help me get to sleep and therefore stay asleep. I started with 50mg, but am now on 100mg. It has been a blessing, and the fact that it is a non-narcotic is important too as I have addiction and depression problems. I take it right before bed, read for about 15-20 minutes and I am zonked out."

For Anxiety "My dose is 150mg at night. First week: weird dreams but I persisted with it. Second week: weird dreams stopped. Felt the same as before. Third week: anxiety gone! That was three years ago. I now manage the return of mild anxiety by walking one to two hours a day."

For Anxiety "I've been on trazodone for three weeks. I also take Klonopin 2 milligrams and 1 x 100 mg of trazodone. It does help with sleep, no doubt. I'm a sufferer for over 16 years, so this definitely works. It stops the thinking, the worrying, and eventually it knocks you out. The problem I have is that I feel so lethargic. I'm tired after sleeping seven plus hours after consumption. My eyes are red and hard to open. I want to sleep and this does the trick. However, I hate feeling tired all day. I gave it an eight because in terms of sleep and anxiety, it does the job. But the side effect of feeling tired all day is unbearable."

For Depression "Trazodone is a lifesaver. I was horribly depressed and had crushing insomnia (I would go to sleep at 10 pm and then be wide awake at 2 am with my mind racing with dark thoughts) which never went away. I asked (begged) my PCP for a sleep aid, and he prescribed Trazodone 50 mg. My entire outlook on life has changed - I can smile, look forward to and enjoy things in life again."

For Insomnia "My wife and I have tried the whole gamut of sleep aids. Trazodone works pretty well. It seems to cause 'funny' dreams, but other than that, it does make you sleep. The only exception we have to most people's experiences is we find even 12.5 mg is 'too much', resulting in an over-sedated feeling in the morning. We try to cut the tablet into 8 parts, but it is difficult. So, a 25 mg, or even 10 mg tablet would be great."

For Sedation "I have found all of these comments to be fairly optimistic. I have been experiencing headaches at a lower dose (50mg), but it took a slow progression to 200mg to solve my sleeping problem. I was also experiencing depression despite taking Celexa (40mg), Wellbutrin (300mg), and Risperdal (0.5mg). Now, Trazodone (200mg) is added to that mix. The headaches are now gone, I'm sleeping well, and the depression is better. However, I have been experiencing side effects like restless leg syndrome, inability to get up before noon (I go to bed at 11:30pm), and painful knees (more than usual). I am having memory issues, which is why I've been prescribed Trazodone in place of Temazepam, which is not good for my brain. Well, that's my story - hope it helps."

For Depression "This has been a miracle for me going through horrid menopause with terrible anxiety, worry, and deep depression. I have been to the point of wanting to end my life. I have tried over dozens of antidepressants along with anti-anxiety meds, but they made me feel worse. Now I am taking trazodone along with a couple of glasses of red wine along with Jasmine. The hot flashes are pretty much gone away and I get to sleep too. The anxiety and depression are now manageable, thank God! I would encourage all women not to allow your doctor to prescribe any benzos. It caused most of my depression. The side effects were just horrible! It took me many months to overcome them. I had flu-like symptoms and deep, deep depression getting off of them."

For Sedation "I love trazodone. I am taking trazodone for sleep. It helps me sleep 8 hours. I also like it because it helps with depression and anxiety. The medicine calms me throughout the night. I have no anxiety and depression since I started taking it. I will continue to take it as long as I can."

For Depression "I was on 100mg of Trazodone for sleep and it worked pretty well. But my depression got worse and I dreaded going back on the various antidepressants I had tried and eventually discontinued due to side effects or things improving in my life. I'm now on 150 mg of Trazodone, and it is clearly making a difference. It's not a magic wand to make everything better, but it allows the 'fog' of depression to lift a bit so you can see and feel more normal. Side effects are less than other antidepressants and it helps me sleep. Yeah!"

For Sedation "I'm a retired U.S. Marine and have been having trouble with sleeplessness and nightmares from service-related issues. My doctor first prescribed Amitriptyline (Elavil) and I became an angry monster. She switched me to Trazodone, 25mg at bedtime, and it has greatly helped with sleep and the depression. It has also helped with controlling my emotions. I have also been alcohol-free for over 8 months now with no intentions of drinking again. It's helped me with several issues, and I would highly recommend you inquire with your doctor about trying it if you're having any of the problems I have experienced."

For Insomnia "I was given trazodone for insomnia. I generally don't fall asleep until early morning! I started this medication 6 months ago and am so thankful for it! I have read a lot of reviews with people saying they are sleeping 14 hours, I personally have not experienced that. I was told to start with 50 mg, didn't seem to do the trick for me. I started taking 100 mg and it works great! I thought I needed something to shut my mind down because it doesn't ever seem to shut off! It definitely doesn't shut the mind down but I have found if I do deep breathing and take the trazodone I'm usually out within 20 minutes! I have never felt dizzy or fatigued like others are saying but medications work different for everyone."

For Anxiety "So glad I found Trazodone for sleep and anxiety issues. I take 50mg at night and finally my constant 'on the go' mind is quieted so I can relax and sleep. Have had no serious or disturbing side effects and I've taken it for two months. I also take Ativan 1mg (for four years) 4 x's a day as needed. Since my second month started on Trazodone, I don't have as much anxiety and can actually take an Ativan 'as needed' when, as before, I was popping them like tic-tacs to get through my anxiety-filled days and nights. But, as we all know, we are all different. Sidenote: I can't take SSRIs, they make me feel worse. Don't know why."

For Insomnia "Ever since I started using this (thanks so much, doc!), I have been in heaven. I have had problems sleeping for months, maybe even a year, but not as extreme then. I start to feel tired and my eyes start to want to shut just 20-25 minutes after I take this! The 'window of opportunity' where it is most obvious it's working (when I feel sleepiest) is, obviously, the time I go to bed. The one time I missed that window was out of experimentation, as I wanted to know if it would knock me out as I was sitting on my couch. It didn't work! When I went to bed that night, it was very hard to do so. So now, I always head straight to bed when I feel sleepiest."
