"What is going on with Armour? The last few lots I've had have caused severe anxiety and panic that I have never experienced before on NDT. My suspicion is that they have changed API suppliers and that we are suffering as a result. Please change it back. Something isn't right here."

"I went 5 miserable years with undiagnosed Hashimoto disease, for which I was told it was all in my head and prescribed Synthroid and antidepressants. Now that I'm on Armour, I have made significant improvements in my health, and I no longer have the 'brain fog' and chronic fatigue."

"I am in a Hashimoto's support group, and there's a big red flag right now about Acella's NP Thyroid. People are reporting a return to hypo symptoms and that the pills have changed in smell, appearance, and taste. I know I was feeling great, but as of my mid-summer refill, I have gone downhill with symptoms. Acella says they haven't changed anything. Then why are the pills different (size and have flecks in appearance)? This would be the 4th NDT thyroid medication to suddenly change, sending goodness knows how many people back into sickness. Don't let this go unresearched!"

"I took this medicine, Armour Thyroid, prior to 2015 with excellent results. Six weeks ago, I went back on it because NP Thyroid had been reformulated. I had a bad reaction to Armour, both the 45 mg and 90 mg tablets. I could no longer get up in the morning, took naps at 2, had a severe rash on my fingers and scalp, felt anxious, depressed, and was not sleeping. I am in adrenal fatigue and can’t think straight. I don’t know if these reformulations are a way to push people towards synthetic medications, or if some new fillers have been added, or if the pig thyroid is being processed differently. My main concern is that my symptoms became much more pronounced within days of taking it, to the point where I could not function at 20% of my prior activity level. Also, the medicine seemed to be very uneven in consistency, I had several pills that almost made me feel like I was speeding, while 95% of the other ones put me in bed. TSH, which had been in the normal range for 11 years, plummeted to the edge of 0."

"Switched from Nature Throid to NP Thyroid last summer and was delighted, it worked great. However, this new refill, obtained fall of 2019, has been terrible. My body is exhausted, my brain non-functional, all my symptoms came roaring back with a vengeance. Scary. I read somewhere they were getting their raw material (pig thyroid) from a new supplier, which clearly is not working. Please get it together, NP, you are losing customers in droves."

"Been diagnosed with Hashimoto's for over a decade, and started out taking 90 mcg of levothyroxine. As my disease progressed I had to take more and more, and was up to 150 mcg when I started feeling bad: sick and depressed, had trouble sleeping. Blood tests showed that my T3s were low, and I had been flogging my T4s to produce more T3s. This may be one of the symptoms of Hashimoto's: an inability to convert T4 into T3. Not a doctor, don't know, but switching to Armour a month ago has made a huge difference in my health. I am not getting those cramps in my hands and feet at the end of the day, and my energy has gone way up. It's still too early to know for sure...one month isn't much...but so far so good!"

"Manufacturer clearly changed the formulation. Ingredients are different, and it doesn't work--I hate when they do this. In 2017-18, they did it to NatureThroid, and before that, they changed Armour several times. People rely on this medication, and manufacturers could care less! Awful!"

"I have taken Armour Thyroid for 30+ years after Synthroid did not work. In the spring of 2020, I began to feel terrible. Headache, tiredness, pain in my joints, no energy at all. My IM ran a thyroid panel on me. Everything normal (I don’t think he ran antibodies). I asked him to switch me to WP Thyroid. He did, and within weeks I started to feel like my old self. That lasted for 6 months, and WP Thyroid was pulled from the market. I had to go back on Armour Thyroid. All my previous symptoms are back, and I feel terrible again. I am sure that Allergan has reformulated Armour Thyroid. We must report and complain to the FDA to get RLC Labs preparations back on the market."

"This medication has done wonders for me, good and bad. My energy level went up, and I lost a ton of weight. I’m actually underweight now. But over the past month, my mental health has suffered greatly. I’m so depressed and anxiety-ridden. I blow up over everything and just feel utterly hopeless. It’s scary how much I don’t care about anything anymore. Is there anyone else that feels this way? I honestly don’t know if it’s my regular life stress or this medication."

"I love Armour! I was taking Levothyroxine and felt so awful. My body ached, I was ill. My thyroid doctor refused to change my medication, so I went to my primary doctor, and after my first dose, I felt 90 percent better."

"Been on Armour Thyroid for 2 plus years. I have never felt this miserable in all my life. Except NP thyroid. Synthroid and levothyroxine helped with numbers. Didn't fight the brain fog, lethargy, and annoying side effects. I have been living in a nightmare for over 2 years being on this medicine. I've been suicidal, continued, if not worse, brain fog, hair, skin, and nails. My whole body is not functioning anymore. Functional medicine people push this like drug pushers. Tried compounded thyroid as well. What a joke. These drugs seem to be a joke. Haven't been able to work full time in 8 years. Dr. took me off estrogen, and this is what happened to me. Hypothyroid, functional medicine doctors didn't pay enough attention to the numbers, I kept telling them over and over again. Now I have Hashimoto's and feel like rubbish. Functional medicine is a joke. But Armour and NP are the biggest joke. Have no clue where I will be going next on this nightmare journey. Good for you all that feel better on this medication."

"Like many others, I received a diagnosis after getting so bad that I could barely walk. I couldn't get out of a chair without rolling over to the arm and pulling/pushing myself out. I was prescribed synthetic medication and got a bit better, but my hair started falling out and I got headaches. I started the research and insisted on the Armour. Huge difference, especially in mental performance. I make my living by doing analyses on high-risk complex things. It was so wonderful to get my brain back. I had some help from a naturopathic doctor who suggested that I add supplements to address any adrenal damage (adrenal rebuilders). The final step has been traditional Chinese medicine, and I am now almost off the Armour too. Western medicine will tell you that thyroid treatment is a lifelong path. Maybe."

"If I could list -1 as a rating, I would. Proceed with caution with this medication. I did not know what was happening to me until I spoke with two mutual friends over the holiday weekend. The confusion, depression, exhaustion, unable to sleep, and rapid heartbeat are the short list. I started NP Thyroid in May of 2019 and reached out to my doctor to switch me back to my RX in October. I've been on my old script for less than a month, but my symptoms are still present. Gained 15 lbs quickly, and joint pains are overwhelming. My life has been affected! Be careful... please!"

"Today is Sept 8 of 2022, I have had them all from expensive Tirosint SOL to pathetic Synthroid generics. They all have terrible side effects that I can't handle. Lately, I've been a guinea pig to Armour Thyroid for the past year and guess what? I've been pushed to see a psychiatrist because of the anxiety, depression, insomnia, and panic attacks it's caused me. I was fine on NP Thyroid for 2 years before the big distributors and politicians decided to stick their greedy hands in what did not involve THEIR own health. Ever since the 2020 downfall, I have been forced to anti-depressants and counseling... as if 'WE' THE PATIENTS have no absolute idea what our bodies feel like after living in it for years or changing medications. And surviving COVID wasn't difficult enough. For now, I am stuck with anxiety, chest pains on and off, depression, and somewhat hair loss. If anyone knows a better remedy... please pass it on. Best of luck to everyone out there still fighting the uphill war."

"I'm here today to find out if anyone else has noticed a urine-like taste/smell from their NP Thyroid tabs lately? I've been taking NP Thyroid for years now, and I feel as well on this almost as well as I did on Nature Throid, which is my overall favorite. But I never tasted this before. My thyroid journey: Nature Throid was unavailable in my area for quite a while, and I did Armour, but it was expensive, so I was offered NP. All of the natural options have made me feel better than Synthroid ever did in the 17 years I took that. No one checked my free T3 back then, nor told me I had an autoimmune disorder. My doctor just said you have an underactive thyroid, here, take Synthroid."

"I started taking this medication when I could no longer get WP thyroid. I was happy with the switch until this last refill in the beginning of October. I’ve gained almost 10 pounds, my joints hurt, the medicine smells and tastes horrid. I don’t know what they did, but they did something. If I complain to my doctor, she’s going to stick me back on Synthroid, and I’m going to get even sicker. Please fix this."

"Four years of misery thinking I had food allergies when I was allergic to the FILLERS in the Armour Thyroid medication. The side effects included: 2 different rashes on my scalp and behind my ears, excessive sugar cravings, depression, suicidal thoughts, after eating my stomach hurt all the time, couldn't eat anything without getting diarrhea. I went to several doctors and not one suspected the Armour Thyroid medication. I figured it out! When I stopped taking it the side effects went away immediately! The rashes a little longer but started clearing up right away. Now, I'm trying the thyroid hormone ONLY without fillers. The interesting thing is my insurance won't pay for it because it comes from a compounding pharmacy not BIG PHARMA."

"I was on levothyroxine for over 30 years. This past year, I felt like I had been hit by a bus when I woke up in the morning. No energy to do anything, aches and pains in hips, legs, and shoulders. I went to my doc and asked her to change my medication to Nature-Throid after hearing about it from a friend who has Hashimoto's. Thankfully, my doc agreed and after a few days, my energy was back, the aches and pain are gone. I finally feel human again. I had no side effects. I wish this drug was available years ago. My levo was expensive for a 90-day supply with insurance ($40), now it is only $17 for the same 90-day supply of Nature-Throid."

"I have been on Westhroid for two weeks versus Synthroid off and on for four years. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's this month. Westhroid had me feeling like myself within a week. Synthroid had me miserable, nauseous, with constant headaches. Westhroid is for me. I am glad I went the biologic way and I am taking my health back."

"I started out on WP, and after the shortage, I switched to NP. My life has been great. I lost 40 pounds and felt completely normal after going gluten and dairy-free along with NP. I got my refill last week and got so sick after just one dose. I react like there’s something I have an intolerance to. My throat burns, and my stomach hurts, plus the nausea all day. I cannot eat. I had my doctor switch me to Armour, but with all my intolerances plus Celiac, my abdomen blew up, and I was so bloated I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I honestly don’t know what to do now. I feel like I was just given a death sentence. This is so wrong. Acella needs to be held accountable for this. Stop playing with lives! I called them, and the person I spoke to did admit they changed things. I was told they changed their supplier of the active ingredient of pig thyroid. She wouldn’t say where they now get it. Who knows."

"I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. United Healthcare and Medicare say Armour Thyroid is not covered by them. I was on Armour Thyroid for 15 years. My insurance made me try other meds. I tried other thyroid meds including Nature-Throid. I put on 48 lbs under Nature-Throid, my body was tired, I was dizzy, could not function, and had incontinence. I am now back on Armour Thyroid feeling better every day, decreasing in weight, and other symptoms are gone. But I have to pay for it myself, and since I am on Social Security, it is a big expense. Thanks, Armour Thyroid."

"I have been on Armour since 1999, except for the time a few years ago when it wasn't available. Have had good luck with it until last year and started experiencing a dry mouth, clenching/snapping jaw, extreme hair loss, nausea at night, and extreme insomnia. Armour is the only medication I take, and I take no supplements. I think there is a serious problem with this medication that is not being addressed."

"I’ve been on Armour thyroid for over 10 years, taking 60 mg daily. My prescription got filled with NP thyroid this last time. When I received it, I saw the change, quickly looked it up, saw desiccated thyroid and figured it was fine. I finished my Armour and switched over. I was also recently diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy for which I’ve been taking Modafinil for the last 4 months. So when I started developing headaches, palpitations, hypertension, and GI bloating, and let’s just say it-farts-I actually thought it was that. Even though it’s only been about a month of those symptoms. Today as I sat here and pondered why the headaches and increase in BP, I thought of the thyroid medication switch and started poking around. And here I found some answers. Along with reading the differences in Armour and NP. I won’t take it tomorrow or the next day, until they give me Armour back. Be alert to what feels good, right, and normal. Be persistent in your health!"

"What has changed with this medication? Something's seriously off since about mid-last year. Headaches, anxiety through the roof. Is there a new API supplier? What? I've taken NDT for two decades. Never experienced anything even remotely like this."

"I have been on Armour Thyroid 60 mg for the past thirty years with good results. I split my pill in half and took it twice a day. But in the past three months, it seems that the medication is no longer what it used to be. My hair started falling, my hands grew icy cold in the evening, and I had a ringing in the ears. Indigestion, gas, and a feeling of anxiety. In the past two weeks, I fell repeatedly flat on my back with no warning. Unable to get up, my husband called the paramedics to take me to the hospital. There, they did not find anything and glossed over my report that I am hypothyroid and that I am taking medication for it. Instead, they focused on my cholesterol level of 257 and recommended Lipitor. The Armour formulation is not the same."
