Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I also had similar experiences and side effects like lethargy, shaking, confusion slightly, severe fatigue, headaches, aches and pains, but kept taking the medicine anyway because the pain of a urinary tract infection is much much worse. I'd rather suffer for a short time with these symptoms then suffer with a bladder infection."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I'm currently on bactrim, first day taking the medication and I saw an immediate difference. My Uti's are horrible, I'm normally awaken from my sleep, as they hurt that bad. I'm up for hours on hours sitting on the toilet due to the urge. Bactrim is helping this a lot. Also I see a lot of people are feeling sick while taking this medicine, my doctor recommends that I take the medicine with food, hope this helps you guys in the future if you're experiencing sickness."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Third day of medicine but still having symptoms. Those of you who report adverse reactions and then go on taking the medicine should know that is not a good idea. I am allergic to several antibiotics, and my doc says stop taking at the first sign of any reaction as it can be very serious."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I've taken my fair share of medications for UTIs and so far this one seemed to be the most effective as far as relieving symptoms quickly. My doctor prescribed me to take two pills a day for 10 days. I felt relief from UTI symptoms as soon as the 2nd or 3rd day. That being said, it has some nasty side effects. They say you can take it with or without food and I'm guessing that because it makes your stomach feel horrible either way. I've experienced diarrhea, painful gas and bloating, and nausea, since the first day of taking it. From my experience this can usually be expected with strong antibiotics. My advice would be to take a probiotic to help counterbalance! I've done it before and it helps me."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "It's currently 12:30am, and I'm wide awake on a school night typing this. I didn't exactly have all the symptoms of a urinary tract infection, but always have the urgency to pee. I went to urgent care, and the doctor prescribed me Bactrim. I've been on it for 3 days (today will be my 4th), and I have yet to see results. According to some of you, it doesn't start working until the 5th day, which still gives me hope since the doctor told me it would work within 2 days. What I have been seeing is nausea, diarrhea, shakiness, insomnia, extreme headaches, and loss of appetite. I really hope this works. The constant urge to pee pretty much ruins what little social life I have. Having to make constant trips to the bathroom doesn't fit well with football games."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Day 1: Prescribed 1 pill twice a day for 7 days. The medication seemed to be working and I was urinating like normal. Day 2: That night, I ended up experiencing terrible pain on the inside and outside of my vagina such as: burning, itching, redness and swelling. I thought it could be a reaction but it wasn’t sure. Day 3: That morning, I ended up experiencing the same terrible pain but it was more severe. At this point, I could hardly move, sit or stand without it hurting. It felt like ulcers on the inside and outside of my vagina due to the terrible burning sensation. That night, the pain got even worse. I ended up having chills and body aches, possibly a low grade fever. Day 4: I stopped taking the medication. I decided that this medication is not worth the symptoms and advised to my doctor that I would not be continuing the medication. *If I could rate my symptoms on a scale from 1-10, I would rate it at a 15. I will NEVER take this medication again."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I wanted to leave this review to help anyone worried about taking this. I'm in my late 30's and get UTI's often. They seem to come anytime I have intercourse and I try to combat them with D-Mannose. I typically have to get an antibiotic twice a year. Bactrim is my drug of choice in combination with pharmaceutical pyridium. Bactrim does not cause the gut issues that Cipro does and I find it to work quickly. The key to bactrim is to take a pill after you eat with a full bottle of water. In between doses, take a probiotic. So morning bactrim-lunch probiotic-dinner bactrim-bedtime probiotic. There will be obvious relief of symptoms within 24 hours and you need to complete the entire 7 days. In addition, if you are going to be in the sun, wear long sleeves and a hat. If you cannot cover up, remember the 1 to 3 rule. When on sulpha antibiotics, 1 hour in the sun is equivalent to 3 hours in the sun. Take AZO or pyridium the first 2 days to relieve urge/pain."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Irregular heartbeats that "feel" like a panic attack. Weak feeling all over body and loss of strength after doing something simple such as throwing out the trash. Bactrim MAY give you brain fog and feelings of depersonalization-it may also affect your electrolyte levels. Be prepared for possible psychotic effects on your brain and not knowing why you are losing yourself/mind. More importantly, watch for the development of pernicious anemia. Again, this may not happen to EVERYONE but watch yourself carefully while on this drug. This won't cure EVERY UTI. Before you take this, BEG your doctor to CULTURE your urine so that you will be put on the "right" antibiotics. This interferes with your body's ability to breakdown Folate into a useable form and can interfere with your bone marrow WHICH produces red blood cells."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was prescribed this for a UTI. Worst experience ever! got up to day 4 of taking it and started to feel weak, confused, had really bad back and neck pain, pain when I walked. I also had watery, itchy, burning eyes, massive headache, sleepy and fatigue and like tight chest. At night I couldn't sleep, had the chills and a cold sweat. I have lost my appetite and have lost 6 pounds in just 4 days! I have stopped taking them but now I am developing a rash on my body that really itches. Please people beware of this. My advise is to ask for something else, or at the first sign of a symptom stop taking."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "After being on this for 5 days, my urianry tract infection was *almost* gone. I had to ask for another prescription. During the time I was on it on I noticed shortness of breath, almost twice a day I tasted metal and noticed I had small nosebleeds. I also couldn't really go out in the sunlight, as it hurt my eyes a lot and my skin felt like it was burning."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Bactrim is a very good antibiotic in my experience. at first i was so scared to take it because of all these negative reviews, my uti was antibiotic resistant and bactrim cleared it up within 3 days. don’t let these reviews scare you, the people who have bad reactions usually don’t follow the instructions, stay out of the sun, drink tons of water, eat a full meal before taking your dose! :)"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I took this medication for the first day and I only ate a small breakfast just so I could take the medicine. I was sick all day and felt like I had the flu. So the next day, I are a full meal (so that I was completely stuffed) and no side effects. THIS MEDICINE MUST BE TAKEN WITH A FULL MEAL"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "The ONLY side effect I had from this medicine so far is very slight fatigue right after I take it. Had a pretty bad UTI, took the first dose ( 2 a day every 12 hours) and within a short amount of time there was no more burning, fullness feeling, or pain. I take this for 10 days and I am on day 7. And no dizziness, nausea, vomiting or anything. Don't be afraid to take this medicine BUT! EAT BEFORE YOU TAKE IT!! Like a full meal! I think many people aren't doing this and you should."

I took Bactrum about an hour ago and I'm was in so much pain until a couple minutes age when the medicine kicked in! I feel so much relief and I have less urge to go! UTIs are terrible and I'm so sorry for everyone who has gotten one but I'm also glad that there is medication to treat it and that it works this fast!!!"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I went to urgent care for unbearable pain from a UTI and they put me on bactrim. This made me feel awful. Lots of anxiety and panic attacks, and constantly feeling dizzy like the room was spinning and like I was going to fall down and pass out. Felt very shaky on day 5. Also experienced neck pain and pain in my lower back. Also experienced headaches. It cleared up the UTI but had horrible side effects. I’m someone who also has neurological Lyme disease so my left side of my jaw just goes into spasm when I have a flare up, which is another painful condition I live with and I’ve taken many other antibiotics for Lyme and for sinus issues but I’ve never experienced symptoms like this."

SMZ-TMP DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I took this medicine for a UTI because I was told it kills the bacteria that showed up on my labs and other antibiotics may be resistant to it. The medicine made me go to the bathroom even more, especially at night and caused headaches and muscle cramps. I've been switched now to Cipro. We will see how this goes."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I've just taken my 3rd pill and everytime I take it I feel extremely lousy. Terrible headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, shaky nervousness, some difficulty breathing, beginning to itch. I don't like this at all the way I feel. Just before I need to take the next dose I'm feeling my old normal self and then I take the Bactrim and boom I go downhill, again. Told my doctor I quit...it's ruining the quality of my life."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I will never take Bactrim again, despite the fact that it appears to have cleaned up my UTI. I was prescribed 6 pills, 2 per day for 3 days. By pill #2, I lost my appetite, and felt very weak and tired. Went to bed very early. As I continued the medication, I developed many flu-like symptoms, and spent the next 4 days in bed. Chills, achiness, lethargy, listlessness, extreme tiredness, brain fog, inability to stand up for very long without feeling woozy, not even able to sit up and do light work indoors. This medication had me flat in bed for 4 days straight. Two days after finishing the medication, I have still not regained my strength completely, although I am starting to normalize. I am typically a very active person, who works outdoors every day. This one threw me for a loop - never again! I will ask for something else for a UTI."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Took Bactrim for UTI for 7 days. On 6th day had chills and body aches. Literally could not get off the couch. Went to dr and negative for flu and UTI was gone. Got worse (headache, severe body aches, nausea, diarrhea, no appetite--honestly the worst I've EVER felt) and ended up in the ER for fluids. Stopped taking it 2 days ago and still feeling effects. Be careful--wished I had stopped taking it at the first sign of stomach discomfort. Glad it's a reliable drug for some but for me it was horrid."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have reoccuring UTI's and have taken several different antibiotics for them. I was recently prescribed Bactrim DS. After taking the second pill, the aching, pain and soreness was almost gone. It works better for me than Cipro, but you should always have a urine culture to be sure which antibiotic is best for you. Fortunately, I haven't had any terrible side effects. The only side effect is feeling a bit fatiqued a few hours after taking Bactrim."

Now on day 7, I have not only had headache, but light-headedness/nausea. With only 3 days left, I am going to continue the medicine. My urinary tract infection symptoms have improved finally after 5 days."
