Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I took Bactrim for three years straight in my early twenties. I’ve physically never felt better than then. I don’t know if it was also treating other unknown conditions but it was amazing for me. My skin specifically was clear, smooth, all redness went away. Zero known side effects."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This medication did work for me but I was on it for about 3-4 months before my skin actually cleared up. Don't give up hope if you see no change in the first couple of months. I went from having moderate, hormonal acne mostly around the chin and jaw (but also would appear on other parts of the face) to having a perfectly clear and glowing complexion. I am also taking the OCP (and had been on it prior to starting on Bactrim)"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Two weeks into my twice daily Bactrim RX & suddenly I felt like if I did not lie down, I would FALL down (EXTREME Exhaustion feeling out of nowhere) Then I noticed I had a fever. I slept all morning & most of afternoon. Woke feeling fine. ...UNTIL that evening, when once again I felt like if I did not lie down, that I would FALL down. And, once again a fever. I went to bed very early, slept until morning. Next morning I woke feeling much better. Figured I was coming down with something and gosh, at least I'm on an antibiotic. BUT shortly after taking the morning Bactrim I had the exhaustion/fever slam me again. That is when the lightbulb finally went on that this was BACTRIM doing this to me. As I lie there shivering, I noticed my lip starting to itch. I discontinued the Bactrim and did well. = Allergy to Bactrim/Sulfa drugs."

"My face was horribly broken out and covered in acne for the last five years along with painful cysts since I was 15, I'm 23 and I've tried every face wash, lotion, etc; finally my doctor gave me this prescription and I haven't had a cyst or a single pimple since. I've been on this medicine for two years now and I love it, only draw back is I'm always insanely thirsty on it no matter how much I drink and some nausea as well."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I've been using Bactrim DS for the past 2 months now, and it has definitely cleared up my skin. I plan on using it for another 4 months, and then switching to another antibiotics if need be so I don't build immunity to it."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Had acne forever, went through accutane which cleared it up for a good 2 years and the acne came back. Went back to the dermatologist and was prescribed bactrim. It didn't start working till a few weeks in but after that, I started noticing my face getting clearer. Unfortunately, taking bactrim for a long time isn't good for you for a long time so here I am starting back at square one, but it was the best few months I've in a while."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "While I was only on Bactrim for one week, I feel like it was an experience to share! In this week I did notice a difference in my skin and it was probably the best my face has ever looked. That being said, I developed allergy symptoms pretty quickly but did not make the connection right away. High fever and nausea for a few days before a full-body rash on the 8th day. I was taking two pills a day. Always watch for symptoms and consult the doctor. I would still recommend this medication to others as it appeared VERY promising at clearing up my moderate hormonal acne. If I could go on it again, I would."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I went into an acute respiratory failure after taking Bactrim for acne for only 3 weeks. I was hospitalized for over a month. After multiple painful procedures and a lung biopsy later, I responded to prednisone. I was one of the lucky ones. There is a reason why the FDA updated the label for this drug with this specific warning since otherwise healthy kids my age have had the same reaction and some have passed away as a result."

"I've been taking this medication for my acne for less than a month and all the dark marks and pimples I had on my face are about 90% gone. This medicine is amazing. I take one pill twice a day, the only draw back is the symptoms. I have nausea like never before, loss of appetite, and dizzy spells. The symptoms for me are incredibly strong, but I put up with it because I've tried Epiduo, Retin A, Proactiv, Neutragena, doxycycline, clindamycin, but all were way too harsh on my skin or ineffective. Clean and Clear acne wash with aloe vera has worked the absolute best along with this medication. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking to get rid of acne quickly and completely."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I'm 18 years old and have had terrible acne for almost five years. I tried every possible thing before being put on Bactrim. I have been on this medicine for a little less than a year. After trying every other medicine my primary doctor could prescribe she gave me this and it worked so well. I've never had a problem with side effects. I highly recommend this medicine if you haven't had luck finding a solution to getting rid of your acne."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I was put on Bactrim DS twice a day for about 6 weeks. This was after being on doxycycline for about 4 months with disappointing results. My acne was cystic and mainly distributed across my back, neck, shoulders, and chest. This outbreak of acne started some time after I stopped hormonal oral BC and switched to Paragard. It also coincided with the start of treatment with lithium for bipolar disorder. The latter can exacerbate acne in those that are susceptible. Despite quitting it, the disaster continued. My derm put me on Bactrim DS twice a day for 6 weeks and to my amazement - this finally did the trick. My skin completely cleared! Highly recommended. No side effects but I took a probiotic with it. My skin has stayed mostly clear since."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This medication DID work, but unfortunately after only one week i was one of the unlucky few who found out they were allergic. I broke out in a rash ALL OVER my body. I stopped immediately. It sucks cause it was making my skin kinda glowy. But its not worth it if your allergic. If your not, then it would probably be perfect."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "My dermatologist tried 3 other drugs for me for my acne. This one Bactrim was by far the best. After one month my acne look even worse. However I called my doc and he stated that is normal. And after 3 other medicines, I thought why not keep going. Well after about another month and a half I was clear skin. Just taking daily I get maybe one or two zits per month. I used to have cystic acne and have a lot of scaring unfortunately. I wish I could have found out about this drug sooner. At least give it a try, I mean, what do you have to lose? My doc tried to tell me to stop, so I did for 3 months. My acne returned very bad, however this time right after one week of getting back on it I was totally cured again. I am 25 years old and have been using this since I was 19. Eventually I may be able to stop taking it but I don’t mind the 12 dollars a month for so much more confidence!"

"My daughter started having acne in 5th grade. She had small sized acne on her back, upper arms and face. She was prescribed a topical Retin A lotion and a topical antibiotic. This combination worked until she was in 8th grade when her acne became more severe. She would not use her other meds sometimes because she said it wasn't working. During her routine physical she was prescribed this medicine and started to take it the same day. We saw improvement within the first 3 or 4 days. She's been taking for a just short of a month and the results for her are nothing short of a miracle. She still has some redness as her acne subsides but her skin no longer "angry" and the tone is improving each day. What a great way to start high school!"

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "I have a weird form of cystic hormonal acne, it does't show up all over my face but when I get spots they are bigger than a quarter and deep. Only go away with multiple cortisone shots or lancing. They look more like boils. Anyway my doctor decided to try something new last time I got one of these. I had previously had a bad reaction to bactrim a decade ago but was on immunosuppressants at the time (I have Crohns) so we weren't sure if it was truly the bactrim. Well after taking 1/2 dose for only 4 days my skin was perfect, but I had landed in the hospital with low platelets, low hematocrit, brown urine and feeling pretty close to death. Scary, scary drug. Thanks bactrim!"

"I'm 18 and I've had acne for since I was 13. I have had various different treatments starting with the cream duac then when I needed my prescription renewing they said the demand was too high so I couldn't use it anymore but they prescribed me epi-duo. I was severely allergic with rashes all over my back face and chest this is when the put me on tetrysal/ lymisyclne (sorry about spelling) and was on that for 18 months and then that stopped working I went to go and see another dermatologist were they prescribed me with doxycyline so I tried that. no luck so they have now prescribed me this (3 tablets twice a day) and I have just started them yesterday I hope they work as it has severely effected my self- esteem."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Started taking bactrim about 3 weeks ago. It cleared alot of my acne in the first and second week but i started to break out in the third week. Yesterday I noticed a bump on my neck just below the ear. Turns out its a swollen lymphnode and its the size of a golf ball. That same day I got a severe headache and today my neck is extremely stiff so I'm going to the ER in the morning. Bottom line is don't take it, the side effects probably aren't worth it just get a hold of accutane."

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE THIS! I would not recommend this for acne. 4 weeks into the treatment I was sent to the hospital, with a very bad fever it became hard to breathe. A couple days after I came home from the hospital My whole body felt like pins and needles on the inside and itchy on the out! :( most horrible thing I've went through. honestly accutane was less of a pain than this. I'd take dry lips to pins and needles any day."

Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This works wonders for my skin! My dermatologist recommended it after I cycled through a few other medications and topicals to no avail (never did accutane, though). I've been frustrated with my skin for years and although birth control definitely helped, I was still breaking out on a fairly regular basis. Once I started this medication the results were almost immediate. Within a week my skin was looking smooth and much less spotty. I very rarely get pimples while on this stuff, although blackheads are still a minor issue. Nothing a little makeup can't fix. So happy that this works so well for me!"

The only thing I have noticed is that pimples are not as large when I am on this. I am going to keep at it for a few more weeks to see what happens. I have had this same response on other antibiotics"

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) "This drug worked wonders for me. I took it for 3.5 years and had clear skin finally. But I got bacterial resistance and ended up with worst and more acne scars than I did have before. My dermatologist should have told me what to do at first signs of it becoming resistance. My advice is to make a plan in case that happens to you beforehand. It was great when it worked but iIwas mad at my doc for not letting me know what could happen if it stopped working."
