Sucralfate for GERD "This medicine has given me the blues. I'm sleepy, dizzy, my vertigo is slightly active, I'm having heart palpitations in my sleep and anxiety throughout the day. I already suffered from anxiety but the fact that the meds cause you to have insomnia, that's not good for me. Needless to say, I'm not taking any more pills because every time I do, I feel terrible. I just want this out of my system!"

For GERD "I was just prescribed sucralfate yesterday, and I can tell you that after the FIRST TWO PILLS, I FELT RELIEF! I’ve been suffering, going back and forth between docs and ER over the past almost five years with SEVERE CHEST PAINS, carrying a heavy weight in my chest. I believe it’s working, but the downfall for me is that it offsets my vertigo, AND EVEN WORSE FOR ME IS THAT IT'S TRIGGERING MY ANXIETY!"

Sucralfate for GERD "I have taken Carafate, as well as many of my family members. No one has ever had any side effects or bad reactions, even my pregnant sister with severe GERD. I saw on here some people have dizziness and back pain with Carafate. For anyone thinking they might need to take this for their problems, give it a try because everyone reacts differently, and it may help."

For GERD "Had gastritis for 4 months. Tried natural supplements: DGL licorice, slippery elm, alkaline diet, Irish Sea Moss, and 15 mg Prevacid. All worked, but I went cold turkey on Prevacid when I changed over to Irish Moss and had bad stomach pain. Finally went to the doctor after I read about sucralfate. It worked immediately after the first two pills. I take 4 per day, and I'm on day 5. I can now eat my full alkaline meal and tried salmon and nut butters for protein with very little gas or acid resulting. This drug is a miracle. No more pain after eating. Dizziness only side effect. Stats say it takes about 8 weeks to heal the stomach lining. Natural remedies are good but take a very long time to work. Sucralfate works on pain immediately. It's a Godsend."

Sucralfate for Stomach Ulcer "Found out I have a stomach ulcer and hiatal hernia. Doctor prescribed me Carafate, and it's day two, and I feel like I am feeling worse. My head is pounding, it hurts so bad. My throat feels dry and slightly swollen, and I feel extremely dizzy and weak. I'm hoping this will wear off, and when I get my swallow test done, it will help reduce my anxiety. I just need to feel better. I am scared to go back to work feeling like this."

For Stomach Ulcer "Had H. pylori. Caused a very painful ulcer in my upper abdomen. Took 40 mg of omeprazole a day as prescribed by my doc. Still had pain. Within about two days of using Carafate, I noticed an improvement. Here it is about my 5th week on it, and I really feel it has helped me. I am still on omeprazole too. The only side effects I have noted are a very occasional dizzy feeling that is short-lived, occasional headaches, and constipation only about three times in the last several weeks. I do eat high fiber and try to get several fruits and veggies a day, as well as I have increased my water intake. The schedule of 4x a day - 2-3 hours after a meal and 1 hour before a meal has taken some getting used to, but it is totally worth it. I hope to be able to stop soon."

For Stomach Ulcer "I am a 19-year-old, and I have had an ulcer since May of 2018. I took sucralfate off and on for probably about 5 months now. I took the liquid for about 2 months. For me, I had a lot of issues with the liquid. I couldn’t handle the taste and the powder feeling of it. I also barely had time to eat, considering I had to take it 4 times a day and couldn’t eat for 2-3 hours before and 1 hour after. I’ve recently started taking the pill form 2 times a day, and it’s helping a little more. I have had an upset stomach all the time while taking both medications, but with the liquid form, I felt dizzy way more often. So far, with the pill form, I have had more of an appetite, and I have been eating bigger portions. I’m really hoping this pill form helps more with my stomach pain from my ulcer. Personally, I would go with the pill form rather than the liquid."

For GERD "This med is impossible to take, especially if you have several other prescriptions since they don’t absorb and work properly when the Carafate coats your stomach. Get up at 8, take my HB and other meds, wait one hour to take the Carafate, take the Carafate at 9, wait two hours, eat breakfast at 11. Can’t fit in lunch and dinner. Insomnia, lightheadedness, and slight nausea the first two weeks, but I continued to take it since many times your body adjusts and side effects pass. Yesterday morning, I took it and within 20 min the dizziness set in, an hour later the room was spinning and I was vomiting and dry heaving the rest of the day. Could not walk or stand up. Husband had to carry me to the bathroom. Worst feeling I’ve EVER had. Still dizzy today but better. No more for me."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have suffered from acid reflux my entire life and finally got an upper endoscopy done, which revealed I have gastritis, duodenal ulcers, and a hiatal hernia. I was prescribed this medication and have only been taking it for a day and a half and feel absolutely horrible. Not only does my stomach feel worse than when I started taking it, I feel incredibly nauseous at night and in the morning, right when I’m about to take my next dose. Sick to my stomach, hot flashes, dizzy, etc. I’m hoping that I see improvement in my stomach in a few days, but otherwise I am seriously considering calling my doctor and trying to get off of this. I have been off of work since starting the medication, but I’m terrified of having to go back to the office feeling this way. I lay in bed for at least an hour or two before I go to sleep and before I can get up in the morning because I feel so ill."

For GERD "I suffer from acid reflux terribly. Had my gallbladder taken out because they thought that was the pain I was having. Still, years later and the same pain. After many antacids, they decided to try me on Prevacid 30 mg with sucralfate 4 times a day. The first month worked great. I was slightly constipated off and on. Itchy the first day. Started a second month and the doctor allowed me to take 3 times a day as rules and restrictions for taking sucralfate are almost impossible 4 times a day. This time I have had diarrhea for the past 3 weeks nonstop and felt lightheaded and dizzy. I will be stopping the sucralfate."

For Stomach Ulcer "I have a lot of erosion in my upper stomach and I am in pain, nauseated, dry heaving. The swelling is so bad it makes it so hard on my breathing, especially since I have emphysema. It’s hard to eat because I feel so awful afterward. I didn’t know to dissolve the pill in some water. I tried swallowing the first pill, it got stuck right away. I kept choking. It got stuck three different times before I finally got it to go down. Very scary. So please dissolve. I’ve taken one last night and four today along with 40 mg Nexium. I started feeling very dizzy this afternoon, and my back is in severe pain. I won’t be taking anymore. I guess I’ll just be eating very little when I can handle it. Baby food worked before. Good luck, everyone."

For Stomatitis "It works kind of for gastritis. You have to take it on an empty stomach. But it makes me feel weird. Most people that take it notice lightheadedness, weakness, or being dizzy. Some say it increases their anxiety. It’s because it drops your blood pressure. Not sure why it’s not mentioned as a side effect because it happens to a lot of people. It drops mine 20 points, and I have perfect blood pressure, so it makes it too low, and I get cold and just want to lay in bed. Other people I know complained, and I told them to check their BP, same thing for them 90/70 and 88/68. I'm usually 120/80, and I’ll be 90/60-70 something if I take it. So I avoid taking it unless I have to."

For Stomach Ulcer "I have been experiencing a dull, burning pain in my left abdomen. My doctor suspects that I may have an ulcer and prescribed medication until I can have an endoscopy. I have only taken the medication for two days so far, four times a day, three times before meals, and once before bed. The first two pills of the day gave me a slight headache and made me feel a little off-balance. The third pill caused a pounding headache, dizziness, heart racing, and more balance issues. The fourth pill, taken before bed, made me extremely anxious, my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest, and I was unable to sleep. I even thought I was having a heart attack and considered going to the ER. Today, I am experiencing the same side effects. After taking the third pill, it feels as though I drank a bottle of Nyquil and four Red Bulls. Since it's a Saturday, I will have to wait until Monday to contact my doctor. I am hoping there is something better that I can take. On the upside, I was too preoccupied with my symptoms to think about the stomach pain."

For Stomatitis "Took my chest and back pain away, which were intense from the GERD. However, I was barely able to stand up and walk to and from the bathroom by day 4 without feeling dizzy and nauseous. I felt forgetful, and the vertigo was becoming debilitating. I do not recommend this for anything other than treating the actual ulcer if and when it’s diagnosed through an upper GI series."

For GERD "I have been on omeprazole for a while, feels like it’s not very strong. Then my gastro doctor recommended sucralfate. I’m supposed to take it 4 times a day, but there is no way I could take this 4 times a day. I took it once and I felt dizzy, weak, off-balance, my heart rate was up all night, and I had insomnia. The pill is big to swallow, and it makes you feel like something is stuck…. Didn’t care for this. I will stop this pill."

For GERD "Have bile or GERD refluxing over the last 3 months. Super sore, burnt esophagus, and I can actually feel the acid spitting up my chest. Doc says likely bile since I have a metallic taste too. Started the liquid 4 times a day two days ago. So nauseated, off balance, itchy face, but doc said stay on and call him in 4 days. I hope the side effects go away because it is making me miserable."

For Stomach Ulcer "I took liquid form sucralfate for 2 days, but it really irritated my tongue. I switched to the large pills, and at first, it would only help the lower part of my stomach, so I would crunch a DGL with it to coat the upper. I have been doing this along with omeprazole for 2-3 weeks now, and the pain has gone down a lot, and I can finally feel relief. My problem right now is constant dizziness, and I am trying to determine what is causing it. Maybe if I stop it for 24 hours I might see. Dosage is 1 pill twice a day."

For Stomach Ulcer "Just saw the doctor a few days ago, and I'm having trouble swallowing and have been having severe nausea and acid reflux. I was already taking Nexium. She thinks my thyroid is pressing against my esophagus, plus she thinks my ulcers have come back. She put me on sucralfate. I hate this medication. I am so full of painful gas now, and I'm extremely weak, more weak and fatigued than I was before, and how in the world are you supposed to take this four times a day on an empty stomach? I mean, when are you supposed to eat? And I am so incredibly dizzy taking this. I'm going to tell her that I don't want to take it anymore. I will say that it has helped with the acid reflux, but I don't know if it's worth everything else."
