"The osteoarthritis in my hip got exponentially worse after receiving the durolane injection. It's gotten so bad that less than a year later I'm on need of a hip replacement. My doctor said the rapid decline was due to the Durolane. I wish I never had it. I'm 37 years old and need a hip replacement. That's not right."

"My wife had a single Durolane injection in her arthritic knee 4 days ago. Immediately after the injection, she reported zero pain, and that has been the case since the injection. Believe me, if there was still pain, we would know about it!"

"I had Durolane injection after 2 of another brand that went well. United Health care insisted on this one this time. 20 minutes after injection I had extreme nausea and headache to the point of not seeing well. The pain is worse now than before any shots 2 years ago. I have no idea how to make the pain stop now"

"My partner is suffering from this Durolane injection and our insurance is now only covering this injection. I would like to know if anyone has had good results for these injections and if yes how long did you start feeling like the injection was working. I’m trying to figure out if we need to push for something else at this point this injection isn't working and is causing more pain than before this injection was given. My partner has only had 1 set of injections on both of her knees and I’m afraid for her to get a second set of injections. I would appreciate any advice as she is in serious pain and now can’t walk without pain."

"Had an injection of Durolane about 3 to 4 weeks ago. Initial injection itself did not hurt at all. My knee felt a little stiff and got progressively worse to the point know where I think I am going to need PT. I was shocked to see that more than half of the patients surveyed gave this the lowest rating. Now I am one of them."

"I absolutely hate this drug. Synvisc worked wonderfully for me but they started recommending duralane because the it is single dose. Had both knees done and my left one in particular is terrible. It is swelling, still bruised and hurts from the hip to the ankle. Why is this drug even on the market? I'm in more pain than I was before. 500 mg naproxen a 2x a day won't even touch it. If I could use a negative number to review, I would. This pain is directly effecting my job and quality of life."

"I had an injection in my knee and 6 days later I had to have 30cc’s of fluid drained from my knee. It helped with some of the pain. 4 days later in the hospital due to continued pain. More fluid drained to be sent for testing to ensure there was no infection, which was extremely painful. Note: there was no infection. Received some great pain medicine, to help ride it out. It took about 4 weeks to get back to a non-painful event. NEVER AGAIN!"

"Had the injections in both knees on 10/4, and was barely able to walk a day or 2 later it was so painful and inflammed. I was icing and living on Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Called Dr after several days and he gave me a 5 day pack of prednisone which took away the inflammation. It now been 6 weeks and don’t feel as if they worked, my knees are worse than prior to injections. My insurance approved Monovisc so I have no idea why Dr changed….. worse experience with my knees ever. I would not recommend."

"Had injection in both knees the right is doing well able to bend without difficulty. The left is in so much pain and discomfort cannot walk on it or bend it without pain. Going to the bathroom is discomfortable. The injection of fluid was so painful screamed and not able to walk for awhile afterwards. It is 24 hours after injection and think a replacement would have been better. The insert states no weight bearing or walking for more then an hour at a time definitely follow that and ice help to numb the pain. Finding a comfortable position is very difficult as well."

"I received Durolane in both knees almost 2 weeks ago. Most of the time, it feels like my right knee has been beaten by a sledge hammer. Both knees hurt worse than before I walked into the doctor’s office. I’m so disappointed by these painful results. I figured I’d see relief after a few days. Instead, I have pain at night and trouble sleeping. Right now, just sitting in a chair, typing this complaint, my right knee is killing me. Stairs are next to impossible, and I’d like to be able to get off a chair or a couch without looking like an invalid. Why this drug was ever approved, is beyond me."

"I had my first injection of Durolane after my health insurance decided it would not cover the cost of my previous injection of Monovisc (which by the way worked for me). I was immediately in pain and yelled out in pain (cursed actually) and was in so much pain I could hardly walk out of the office to my car (which the whole time crying to get to my car and on the way home). It’s been 4 days icing and having pain. I would NEVER recommend this medication to anyone. I had better movement before I got the injection and so disappointed. I called my doctor immediately the day after and they said it was normal (seriously not normal to me) to feel this way and to call them after the weekend. I hope it gets better but I will fight with my insurance company to do better for me! I could only give a one but would say a negative about this medication. I should have looked it up before I trusted my doctor"

"OA in the right knee, 33-year-old very active female. Walked out of the CT room fine, pain after the anesthetic wore off and couldn’t walk that night. Day 2 was moving around slowly and not bending my knee fully. Day 3 post-injection and I’m moving around almost normally. I keep bending my knee to encourage the fluid to lubricate. Before my injection, I focused on muscle building to help support the knee and hoping to be back at soccer in 2 weeks. Looking good for a return to sport soon. Probably wear through the gel quickly but my body needs to keep active."

"DO NOT do Durolane unless you like extreme pain. I can’t believe I didn’t research this drug before my injection today. I totally trusted my doctor that recommend it and I know better. I have had Synvisc in my other knee years ago and no problem. I thought this would be similar. It is not. Horrible pain during the injection and could barely walk out of the office. Now about 12 hours since, I Using a walker to get to bathroom and that is even difficult. I can’t straighten my leg. I wish patients could post updates as to how long this pain last. I have tried ice, compression, elevation. Pain is horrible - I regret getting this. Will probably look for a new ortho. No one should go through this pain."

"I received a shot in each knee because I have bone on bone knees.. I have been getting Monovisc for years with no problem and was told when I got there we were using Durolane which had the same components as Monovisc so I said ok. Well I could barely walk out of there holding onto my husband..I can’t drive, been in excruciating pain for 5 days now with no relief from icing, Advil, steroids, tramodol, rest and elevation.. stay far away from this injection.. I hope and pray I get relief soon.."

"I had Durolane injections in both knees ten days ago. My side effects included nausea, headache, back pain, tingling. Now my knees ache and burn so badly every movement is excruciating. I can barely get around the house . At seventy two years old this is the WORST decision I’ve ever made. PLEASE if you are thinking about getting Durolane injections, don’t. Once it’s done there’s no going back."

"I had mixed feelings regarding my Durolane injections. I have bone-on-bone in one knee and some cartilage in the other knee. The doctor recommended the 'triple one-dose' injection in both knees. When he administered the injection in my bone-on-bone knee, the pain was unbearable. I literally almost fell to the ground. I had never experienced anything like that pain. When he gave it to me in the other leg, I had ZERO pain. The difference was that the needle had to push all of that thick liquid between the two bones in my one knee, whereas it went into the cartilage on the other knee. I could barely get to my car before I started sobbing. It took several days for the pain to subside, but it did. I can bend both knees a little more than before the shots. I do feel it helped, but I'm not sure if I can undergo the injection in the bad knee again in 6-8 months, knowing how much the shot hurt."

"It’s been 12 hours since I’ve received the Durolane injection in my right knee, I have a torn meniscus, OA, accompanied with effusion. Since moments after the injection the burning pain and the inability to walk is beyond belief. I’m sixty-five, with end stage arthritis in both feet, shoulders and right knee. This was sworn to have increased my quality of life. I’m sorry but as the day has progressed it has only gotten worse. I definitely am not looking forward to trying to get rest tonight. I have tried my pain medication, which by the way my physician changed from oxyocodone to hydrocodone today (a weaker pain killer, explaining it would be better), ice packs to supposedly reduce the swelling, and heat. My advice, after this venture to improve my quality of life is...don’t get Durolane. I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. Definitely regret going forward with what I’ve read to be a very new medication in the USA."

"I had my first Durolane injection in my left knee around October 2016. Within days the arthritic pain had. Totally gone. I had another injection in my right knee around six months ago and again pain gone. I had my left knee injected again today and given previous results I am confident it will work I lead international expeditions (jungle, desert, mountain etc) for a living and this has extended my ability to lead hard, physical trips. In the UK, this is not covered by my insurance but it costs me under $300. I have no connection to the manufacturer, just a very happy patient."

"Worked well for me. I had instability and resulting pain in my right knee from moderate arthritis . In October I had the Durolane injection and Cortisone. No problem for five months. Just had a second round of the two shots. Pain free again. $300 for the injection so $50 a month seems reasonable."

"Having Durlane injections is the worst thing I’ve ever done in my life. For four days I could not even walk and now my knees are in twice the pain as before the injection four weeks later. Twice a year I get Cortizone injections that give me a relief and are not as painful to administer. Durolane was absolute agony getting put into my knees and I would caution anybody to never get these injections. I believe it should be taken off the market because I’ve only been able to find a handful of reviews where they had a positive outcome"

"I received one injection in each knee Tuesday. I walked like a penguin for 2 days, then Thursday I began experiencing sharp pains in my left pelvic/inner thigh area. The pain comes back spontaneously and makes me scream and catch my breath. If I press and hold the pain becomes bearable enough to limp to a chair or to my bed. Eventually the pain subsides, but spontaneously and unpredictably keeps occurring. I’ve never had this experience with any other medication. My knees are still aching and I’m still propping them up on pillows. 30 minutes ago my right knee felt like it was buckling."

"Am 48 and have bone on bone OA in L knee. No relief from Cortisone injection. Made knee more irritated. Am on serious medication to control pain so am hoping Durolane will replace those and delay surgery. I had it 3 days ago. *Please request a local anaesthetic before you get it. GP, surgeon and radiologist all said it wouldn’t hurt. It was put in without local anaesthetic and was excruciating. Having said that, my knee is already feeling better. Back to work tomorrow which will test it out further. Just wanted to share story so people make sure to have an anaesthetic prior to it."

"I received Durolane for the first time 2.5 weeks ago and my knee pain is as bad as it was after surgery a year ago. I’m so upset. I had Synvisc One last October and the very next day was pain free. I’m in tears reading the reviews here. I was training for a marathon and have had to stop because of the pain. I’m so scared I won’t be able to continue."

"My doctor had amazing results with his knee as well as with other patients knees. So I thought, why not. Unfortunately I can relate to the reviews that only give a 1.0. I’m in much more pain than I was before the shot. I pray it goes away and doesn’t last 5 years like one person shared. Unreal."
