"Today is Day 5 after my injection. I really regretted the decision on days 1-4. Yesterday was particularly bad, with one of my knees buckling every few steps. Today, I have no pain, and I am greatly relieved. Apparently, the internal swelling caused the nerve pain. Swelling is gone, and pain subsided. Yeah!!!"

"Supposedly, Durolane is artificial hyaluronic acid used for those of us who are allergic to eggs. Had a shot and could not walk out of the doctor's office. The pain was the worst I have ever had, and I have severe OA in both knees, which in itself is a lot of unending pain. That knee now has a whole lot more excruciating pain. Can't recommend it because I think it harmed my condition."

"Got the Durolane injection in my right knee, then 5 days later I’m in the ER with an infection and now have to be on infusion antibiotics 3 times a day via a PICC line for the next three weeks. I would NOT recommend this drug!"

"I got the Durolane injection on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, and when I was walking out of the office after the shot, it felt good, but by the time I got home, it hurt some. Every day I get up okay, but by lunch it hurts some, by evening it gets worse, and then last night, April 16, 2020, was the worst ever. I tried ice and heat, and finally a Toradol pain reliever. I was able to wake up okay, but it has been bad all day today. It says give it two weeks to fully feel the effects. I'm bone on bone and have a lot of arthritis in my knees. I pray this works."

"Got the Durolane injection instead of Synvisc. It does not even come close to pain relief similar to Synvisc. It wears off after about 3 to 4 weeks. The Synvisc was good for maybe 14 to 16 months. The pain is constant and unrelenting. The fluid on my knee restricts the joint from bending. I finally turn to opioids. Opiates do not relieve the pain, it just makes you ignore it. No more Disney or Epcot for me. Hey, United Healthcare, if you’re listening, it’s all your fault."

"Me again, it’s been almost 3 weeks and still no change! I filed a complaint with Durolane and the FDA, yet no one reaches out to me. I can barely walk, and I’m in severe pain around the clock from these injections. They have ruined the quality of my life! I was hiking and cycling prior to injections but had knee pain. Now, my legs are so stiff I cannot even bend them enough to do a pedal rotation on my bike! Do not get these horrible injections!"

"In the queue for hip replacement but started looking for alternatives. Took an ultrasound-guided hip joint injection a month ago, 3 ml of Durolane. Pain increased for the first week and a half, but now almost no pain, very pleased and hope it lasts 6 months. I'm getting over my limp, building up atrophied muscles, and resuming my regular activities like long walks and pickleball."

"I am a 49-year-old female suffering from severe osteoarthritis of the right knee. Have tried steroid injections with very temporary relief (less than a month). Dr. recommended Durolane. Had my injection yesterday (2/4/2021). Pain was very intense and nearly fell when I stood up to leave. Had a pounding headache by the time I got home and had a rough time getting in the house. Iced knee and took ibuprofen as recommended. Ached through the night but I was able to sleep on and off. When I woke this morning, the pain is worse than before the injection. As I walked into the kitchen, my knee gave out and I nearly fell. I am off work today and tomorrow. Praying that taking it easy and icing my knee, the pain will subside soon. I'm wishing I didn't get the injection at this point. I have pain radiating in both directions (from knee to ankle/from knee to hip). I'll keep you updated on when and if this pain lets up."

"I had my left knee injected with Durolane in December 2019. I had previously had successful injections of Synvisc over a period of four years, and that gel worked great. This time, United HC approved both Synvisc and Durolane. I wanted the Synvisc, but the doctor wanted to spare me three injections. I stupidly accepted her advice and did the Durolane. Holy moly-my knee still hurts like anything. All the time. It's on fire. My new doctor said I may have to wait another six months before he could inject Synvisc. My advice-stay away from Durolane."

"This is the 6-month after injection report. The first 3 weeks I had swelling due to too much Durolane fluid in my knee. Months 2, 3, 4, and 5 got better, morning stiff but flex out as the day goes along. Swelling started in month 6, not pain but sore when walking. My 3 Synvisc treatments worn out after 3 to 5 months. So I will get my second Durolane injection this week, see if it's as good as the first one."

"Almost 7 wks since I got the injections, and I still cannot walk. Knees will not bend. Terrible time going up and down steps. Hard time getting comfortable in bed at night. If I'd known this was going to cripple me, I never would have, and will never again, get this injection. Shame on you, Durolane!"

"Had Durolane shots on both knees two days ago. Heard positive results from the company and pain doctor. After reading other comments, hope I will not be feeling pain too long. Have pain now, stairs are a challenge. Am taking Tylenol for arthritis. Wait and see, I guess."

"I read these reviews 2 years ago after my physio recommended it over Ostenil. He then took it up with the Durolane rep, whose response was that the pain people get is when it is injected into tissue outside of the capsule. There shouldn't be any pain from the Durolane. So today, I had my 3rd lot of Durolane injections (both knees). Immediately no limp. They now offer lidocaine prior to the injection, with it being a gel. I recommend taking the lidocaine injection as Durolane on its own is uncomfortable due to its thickness going in. We've also recommended it to 3-4 other people who have all gone and had it. All are very happy. Both knees $900, worth every cent."

"Try orthotic insoles first, then Durolane. I had knee pain diagnosed as osteoarthritis, and it got worse over time. In October, I could not walk, the pain of bone on bone was impossible. Signed up for double knee replacement. In the meantime, tried orthotic insoles. What a lifesaver! Cartilage was worn out on both knees on the inside only. This indicated a biomechanical problem. The doctor preparing the insoles noted I had flat feet, and these insoles straightened out my walk. This allowed the inflammation to subside as the load was now spread. A few months later, to stabilize the knees, I tried Durolane. One week into it, and some stiffness and discomfort in the injected knee, but I can feel a big reduction in pain and more stability. The injection was no problem. Now my worse injected knee is better than my better non-injected knee. If you have addressed the underlying issue, maybe Durolane becomes more effective. Good luck!"

"I had injections in both the right and left knees at the same time. The right knee did okay, but the left knee was absolutely horrible. Within 4 hours of injections, I had the most horrific reaction. The pain was the most extreme pain. I had painkillers, and it would not relieve the pain. It was so bad I wanted to call an ambulance. The only reason I didn't was because my bedroom is upstairs, and I couldn't make the trip downstairs. I knew the only way the paramedics could get to me was by breaking a 1500-dollar door down. So I kept taking more painkillers, and finally, after 7 hours, I had relief. Since the injections, I have severe leg cramps in both legs, wow, over the top! Itching over my body, bad lower back pain, RLS, and nausea. This continues every day. My legs barely move. Before treatment, I was walking 2 1/2 miles daily, and I'm 65... obviously, I had a severe allergic reaction. Would not ever recommend."

"I'm a 63-year-old male. Bone on bone in the right knee. I got this Durolane injection today at about 11 a.m., and it hurt like anything. I was okay until about 5 p.m. at work today. Now the knee hurts so much, and I'm in a lot of pain. Sure hope this pain subsides."

"I do not normally write reviews, but I believe it is my duty to let those that wish to have a Durolane injection know of my awful experience. It has been a little over 2 months now, and my knees still have not healed from these injections. Unfortunately, I got injections in both knees. Had I known, I would have only tried one knee at a time. At first, I couldn’t walk for 3-4 days, but I was optimistic as I have a wonderful doctor, and he has been taking very good care of me for the past 10 years. I believed after a week or so I should start to feel some relief. That was not the case. I am still in agony every single day. I’m sure some have had good experiences, but unfortunately, I was not one of them. I will never tell anyone to get a Durolane injection, as there is a chance they may end up like me…suffering every day of my life! Best wishes to those who wish to take a chance with this terrible medication."

"I had the injection on Tuesday. It is now Friday, and I have started having trouble walking on/moving my left knee without pain. My doctor said it might take a couple of weeks before I see positive effects, so I will reserve final judgment for the next 10 days."

"August 30 injection. Now December 8. No relief. Knee still painful and more swelling. Also constant ‘squishy’ sound & feeling when flexing knee. Feels like the gel is still just sitting in there in one spot. Can’t recommend."

"I rated Durolane only a 1, and this is only because I can't give a ZERO. I had a scope with meniscus repair about 3 months ago and still had some pain, so my doctor suggested Durolane. Worst decision I have made for my knee recovery. 3 weeks since my injection, and my pain is worse than it has ever been. I wish I had been advised that this was a possibility, now my quality of life is suffering."

"I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before having this injection, or I might never have tried it. My left knee is bone on bone, and I tore the meniscus on Christmas Eve 2020. My knee is in such bad shape the ortho surgeon wouldn't do a repair - said it wouldn't be worth it without replacing it totally. He suggested trying the Durolane injection, and I did. It didn't do anything for the first almost 3 weeks, but then one day I realized I didn't need my crutches anymore and could walk without pain for the first time in about 2 years. Yes, the injection is very uncomfortable. And yes, I feel crappy afterwards, and my knee is swollen, painful, and stiff. But I had 6 pretty much pain-free months before needing my second one just this week. I'm 53, and if this can help me put off knee replacement, then I will be a happy camper."

"I had my first Durolane injection in Dec 2018. I am trying to avoid a knee replacement as I am only 53 years old. I have bone on bone in the medial aspect of my knee. I had 8 months of relief that has been amazing. The first 2 weeks, I seemed to be in more pain and felt like I shouldn’t have had the injection. Then it settled down, and I have lived pain-free and active until 2 weeks ago. I have ended up needing crutches, so I decided to have another Durolane injection. I just had another injection today, and I know the next week or so may be a bit worse, but I can’t wait to be pain-free again. In Australia, your private health insurance will cover $300 for the procedure. Will keep having these until I eventually decide on the replacement."

"Got my first cortisone injection for bone-on-bone right knee in July. Worked great! Dr. recommended trying Durolane for the next visit, can have pain relief for up to 6 months. I thought prayer was answered until the next day after the injection. Had horrible pain where I didn't have it before. Have had to go back to using crutches and a knee brace to get around. Where did the Durolane go? Dr. says I can have another cortisone, but I'm thinking it won't work this time because pain's location is in the actual joint where Durolane was injected, and there's no inflammation like before. It's now 32 days straight living and suffering with this new pain. Thank you, Durolane, for giving me a new pain and false hope."

"Over the last few years, I’ve had several injections of Durolane in my left knee. I’ve had no side effects and was able to stay pain-free for about 6 months each time. I had immediate relief. I just had that knee replaced because I had almost zero mobility. Yesterday, I had an injection in my right knee. No side effects, and I’m pain-free today. This is the first time in years that my knees are pain-free. What a relief!"

"It's been 8 months to the day that I had both knees injected with Durolane. Walking and going up and down stairs is still very difficult. This has weakened my knees and leg muscles. My leg gives out now and then. My balance is off. I can't run. Whoever approved this should be sued and jailed!! My quality of life has dropped drastically. I'm 71 and can't play with my grandkids like I used to. It's like I'm 10 years older. I don't know what to do about this now!!!!! I'm giving this a 1 because I can't give a negative#"
