"Rapaflo will only relieve your symptoms for a short time, and it relaxes smooth muscle. You have to take Avodart if you want to shrink the prostate and never have symptoms again. It takes time to work, so take both medicines. It's worth it. It helped me."

"After trying Flomax, Hytrin, and Myrbetriq, none of which worked, my doctor suggested Rapaflo. I've been taking it nightly for 10 days now, and I don't feel any relief for the BPH symptoms. The retrograde ejaculations are strange, but something I recall from Hytrin and Flomax. However, the intensity of orgasm is maybe 30% of normal. I'm also dog tired virtually all the time - dunno if that's the medication or something else. I've read here of taking it every other day; I'll give that a try and see if things improve. If they don't, I'm going off the drug."

"I have just read through most of the comments here and find them accurate about the side effects: no ejaculate while on it, but stopping the drug ends that problem after a little while. I had a procedure called Urolift, where my urologist (with local anesthesia) inserted 4 tiny devices that open up the urethra (like shoring up a tunnel) to create more flow. During the operation in his office and while awake, one of the little clips didn't attach fully, and when I urinated a few days later, it came out (OUCH). After that, no more pain from it traveling out, but lots of bloody urine for a few days. Bottom line: the procedure worked out well even with three of them implanted. It has been a year and just had a bladder infection cured with Cipro."

"Fifty-nine-year-old. Have taken Rapaflo for several years. Diagnosed with BPH. I was warned about the lack of ejaculate. I was still able to orgasm. Then I developed problems with orgasm. My urologist said it was either low testosterone levels or psychological issues. He said the Rapaflo was not causing the problem. My prescription plan sent out a letter stating that the cost of Rapaflo would increase dramatically. I talked to my urologist, and he prescribed the generic Tamsulosin (brand named Flomax). I get a three-month supply at a time. I finished out my Rapaflo. Then I started taking the Tamsulosin. The return to orgasm and ejaculation was not immediate, but I and the woman in my life are very ecstatic with our sex life now."

"I was taking Flomax. Very soon after starting Rapaflo, I realized I could not ejaculate during sex. Also, after a couple of weeks, I had two successive instances of a very weakened stream when urinating soon after taking the Rapaflo pill, followed by nights of getting up several times to urinate. I went back to Flomax, and the symptoms went away. Ejaculation was weak after several days on Flomax, but will hopefully improve."

"Within 1 hour of the first dose, I, like many others on this thread, had no ejaculate. None. It was pretty disconcerting to say the least. As far as the BPH goes, it worked. I just can't justify taking something that ruins sex, no matter what the reason."

"I have taken many medications for weak urine stream or frequency. Flomax did not help. I took Uroxatral, and it helped at first. My urologist switched me to Rapaflo, and after 2 weeks of Rapaflo, my stream is better, and frequency is less."

"Benign Prostate Hyperplasia for about 5 years. Flomax worked but horrible side effects (muscle aches, dizzy, stomach pain, dreams), so switched to Rapaflo about 8 months ago, works very well on a small tab of 4 mg, but some side effects: dry sex, lack of interest (which at 65 isn't that bad), so I quit medicine for 3 weeks, but my flow is so slow I developed an infection, so then I started again for a month or so, but this time I am developing heart pain and stomach churning, gas, etc. with it, so don't know what's next."

"I had been using Flomax for the past 3 years, and my urologist suggested I try this new medicine, Rapaflo. Well, I took it for 5 days, and it became very difficult to urinate, so I switched back to Flomax, and all is flowing well again."

"Having trouble emptying bladder, so doc gave Rapaflo samples. Increased flow within days, but still difficulty emptying completely. No ejaculate at all, but orgasm still there. Will stop Rapaflo regimen and try disposable caths for a while."

"52 hrs old, I started taking Flomax for BPH. It completely blocked my sinus. So I asked for something different. My urologist prescribed Rapaflo, but the blocked sinus was even worse, and it cost me 260.00 for 30 pills! Horrible medicine! Avoid at all costs."

"Rapaflo has given me a very nice stream and taken away the pressure. I don't mind not ejaculating, it's worth the flow. My frequency and urgency are not improved close to 3 months after starting. Get up at night less. Hoping to try it during the day instead of at night or increase dosage by 4 mg."

"Had very successful laser prostate surgery 3 years ago. Stream moderate but easy and consistent. Suddenly developed blood and clots in urine. Put on Rapaflo to be sure urination didn't stop and allow a large clot to become an obstruction. Next day, urination frequency increased dramatically, voiding only an ounce or two at a time. That night, up 8-10 times to pee only an ounce at a time. Took it again this morning but now I'm stopping it and see if regular and decent urination returns."

"40 yrs old. Had testicular cancer at 30, left testi removed. About 2 years after I started having pain in between my scrotum and rectum. Was diagnosed with prostatitis, doc put me on Rapaflo. Said it could take up to 3 weeks for it to start to work. First thing I noticed within 24 hrs was retrograde ejaculation. Very concerning at first then I read into side effects. (Thanks doc for not giving any heads up). It took me about 3 days before my pain was lessened and about 2 weeks before it was almost gone. Now I can get away without taking it for 3-5 days before I start getting sore, but it's a catch-22 since the timing for me to have a normal ejaculation is about 3-4 days off the meds. 3-4 days of use is not enough time for it to work properly."

"This stuff does improve 'flow' rapidly, and in that way, it is good. It also shut down my ability to ejaculate and made it difficult to reach a dry orgasm. If you don't push it, you get this very weak dry orgasm that makes you think - why bother? Told my doctor about this [she had previously reviewed the common side effects]. She said try pushing it beyond the weak orgasm. So, I tried hard and was rewarded with a very intense dry orgasm, more intense than a normal wet orgasm by far. I was just getting to like the sexual side effect when I had to go to my doctor for insomnia. She said, oh, that might be the Rapaflo. So, I'm off it now and sleeping great. I think Rapaflo might be a great short-term medication, but long-term I need my sleep!"

"I have BPH and wish to avoid TURP surgery. My urologist did ultrasounds, CT scans, nuclear renal scans, etc. I have urine retention, and that has led to one kidney having swelling. He ordered intermediate cathing. I have been doing that for 2 months now. My bladder is voiding to 0, and retention is capped at 300-350 cc. More scans indicate my kidneys are doing fine now. I started Rapaflo with Finasteride before cathing. It did not help void my bladder. So we moved to cathing. I have no urge to pee unless my bladder has over 400 cc. So Rapaflo/Finasteride does not seem to be working. I do have retrograde ejaculation. Surely, Rapaflo is causing it. My urologist says to keep taking R+F as it might take time. Meanwhile, int cathing is the plan."

"My problem started at 39, felt robbed as everything online talks about BPH starting as early as 40. Now I’m 51 and have a much better handle on my condition. First, when diagnosed, I was given Flomax. After about 6 months of playing with the dose and waiting for it to work, I found it didn’t change anything. After months of trying other medications, I was finally given Rapaflo, immediate improvement. I’ve been on 4 and 8 mg, the 8 mg will actually last for 24 hours. I did experience the “reverse” ejaculation. I term it reverse since it actually occurs, it goes into my bladder. At first, I wasn’t expecting this problem and was surprised when it happened. Today, I just schedule with the wife when we have sex. It takes 48 hours for ejaculation to return for me, so I stop taking Rapaflo on Thursday and can have sex by Saturday night or Sunday without side effects. I recently found out my prostate is normal size, my problem is my bladder neck. Only Rapaflo works."

"Had symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, then a stone popped out. Had both Rapaflo and Flomax on hand, so I took the Flomax. Great within hours and for the first few weeks, then started with blood pressure issues. I also take Avapro as a preventative to blown kidneys from being diabetic, so they can both lower blood pressure, which it seems all of these medicines can do. Not sure if I have a full-blown case of BPH, or a moving stone, as it comes and goes on its own, and I never have night up and down issues. Mine is what seems like unable to fully empty a full bladder, and then, drip, drip, drip, drip. Flomax works within hours on me, but long-term has problems with the fast pulse. Thinking of trying Rapaflo instead of Flomax when it flares up."

"In 2009, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Two tumors. Underwent 42 treatments of radiation. My choice over surgery. Had two shots of Lupron six months apart to kill the testosterone and help the radiation do the job. Cancer gone and PSA tests less than 1 ever since. Started taking Rapaflo 8 mg every night, and it helped me sleep at least 3 or 4 hours without having to get up to the bathroom so often. I think the radiation hurt my bladder and the result was frequent urination. Anyway, to the point. The Rapaflo works, but I cannot experience a normal ejaculation. But when I quit taking the Rapaflo for a week or more, I can with extreme pain, both from the penis and the area of the prostate. It is a burning sensation. Have tried twice."

"I have been getting up 3-4 times every night and finally decided to try medication again. (Previously tried Flomax, which did nothing for me.) Rapaflo, after 4 days, gave me only a headache, diarrhea, and at best a 20% flow increase. I still got up several times during the night, maybe one less time than previous. The side effects and minuscule benefit made it a no-brainer to stop taking this useless medication. A waste of $78."

"I'm a 68-year-old male with an enlarged prostate plus a UTI. I took an antibiotic which helped with my UTI. My doctor had me on Flomax and Proscar. I still had trouble urinating, and he changed my meds to Rapaflo, Proscar, and Cialis. The Rapaflo has worked better for me than the Flomax. I'm also on blood pressure meds, so I keep a check on it. I had some dizziness when getting up from sitting at first, but it's better now. So far, Rapaflo is working better for me!"

"I can only say it will make urination easier, but it also will make a satisfying climax with ejaculation a fond distant memory. It takes a long time to wear off, so you don't need to take it daily."

"Best drug out there for improvement in stream. Worst drug out there for retrograde ejaculation and orgasm buzz killer."

"Doctor did not warn about the dry ejaculate, so I was really spooked that maybe my system had shut down until I googled about it. Otherwise, the medicine did exactly what was needed. I'm 48 and got a mysterious prostate infection. I did have to be at home with a catheter for 3 days waiting for the Cipro to treat the infection and Rapaflo to let me pee. Apparently good results based on the time. I dropped my drawers for more strangers that week than any time since college and was glad to do it."
