"My mom started taking Rosuvastatin after many times complaining to her physician that she was having cramps in her legs. Apparently, statins can cause severe leg cramps. The doctor had her on several different statins before Rosuvastatin. Once she started taking it, she started having back pain. She thought it was because she had an old injury that caused a bit of osteoarthritis (for which she was taking other meds). The pain started getting worse, and the doctor did not change her statin, only added strong and strong pain meds. To make a long story short, my mother ended up in the emergency room in renal failure after the doctor added Tramadol and did not take the Rosuvastatin away. So BE CAREFUL with this drug as it can interact with others. If you have back pain when you take it, stop and tell your doctor."

Rosuvastatin "Started on Crestor 5 mg a year and a half ago. It immediately lowered my cholesterol by 60 points. No problems until 4 months ago. Started having heart palpitations, mainly at night, which is when I took the Crestor. They got so severe that I would be up all night. After doing a lot of research on the internet, I found that other people had experienced this too, so I stopped the medicine and haven't had any palpitations since. My doctor seems reluctant to believe this was the cause."

Rosuvastatin "CRESTOR 20mg - STARTED TAKING ON Jan 14, 2015, TWO YEARS AGO. Approx. Dec 2016, started to have noticeable pain in legs - meanwhile, playing tennis 3 times a week. On Feb 21, 2017, cardiologist would not eliminate Crestor or substitute but said to go to 1/2 dosage, which I did. It's effective. Will review in 4 months with cardiologist. MUSCLE ACHES SHOULD BE A WARNING TO ATHLETES WITH THIS STATIN - MAYBE OTHER STATINS TOO. 11/01/2016 - Recognized leg pain - both lower legs as a problem. 12/19/16 - Saw sports medicine doctor at Penn - Naproxen scripted. 02/21/17 - Talked with cardiologist about continuing, both lower leg pain, now reduced to 10mg - PAIN REDUCED QUICKLY AFTER LOWER DOSAGE and remains minimal NOW"

"I started taking 5 mg generic Crestor 2 years ago, every other day, no problems. My cholesterol wasn't coming down low enough, it's hereditary for me. Doctor increased to 5 mg every day for the past 8 months. My knees are killing me, like they are going to buckle under me, and muscle pain in my chest. Doctor convinced it's not a side effect. I'm convinced it is. I'm very active and never had problems before. My hands go numb, doctor keeps saying I'm fine! I'm going to have my blood work after COVID-19 calms down and I can get to a real doctor visit. I'm so glad it's not just me!"

"I've been taking this medication every day for the last three months since March/April, and I am experiencing recurring UTIs and itchiness all over. At first, I thought it was bug bites, but now I think it's hives because my back is also broken out. I am seeing a doctor this week because my body hurts, like muscle and bone pain, and I want to stop taking this medication immediately. I don't know if it has brought my cholesterol or triglyceride levels down, but they will have to find an alternative medication or suggest a diet for me to follow so that I can feel normal again."

Rosuvastatin "I've been taking rosuvastatin for about two months now and had a blood test taken after five weeks on it. Overall levels went from 266 to 147, LDL 169 to 73, HDL 48 to 44, and Trigs from 250 to 150. I didn't really make much effort to change diet as I wanted to get a good idea of what the drug was doing on its own. I will make necessary diet changes and try to get the numbers down a bit more so that I can either take the medication less often or perhaps switch to a lower dose. Fortunately, I'm not experiencing any adverse side effects. Seems to be a pretty effective drug if you can tolerate it."

Rosuvastatin "I had a massive heart attack 14 years ago and was put on Lipitor. I could not handle the muscle cramps. I was then put on Crestor, again, I could not handle the cramps. Years later, now, I have very high cholesterol levels and have been put on Crestor again but told to take it every second day, 10 mg, and to take ubiquinol a couple of hours before. This is coenzyme Q10. I still got cramping in my fingers and shooting pains up my arms, so I have cut it down to 5 mg every second day, and it seems to be tolerable. It seems I can handle a low dose. Hopefully, it’s better than nothing."

Rosuvastatin "I tried numerous different statins 10 years ago and didn't get on with any of them, so I stopped them. I recently and reluctantly started taking Crestor at 5 mg daily, as some American physicians advocate taking it at a low dose to reduce the inflammation in your arteries, which some suggest could actually be the real underlying problem. After 3 months, I can say that I haven't had any real problems with it, but if I do, I will reduce the amount to 5 mg every other day or even cut the tablets in half and take just 2.5 mg. It has reduced my LDL cholesterol by 46%, but I'm not sure if having high LDL levels is actually the biggest issue, as new research suggests that low HDL and high triglycerides could be a bigger factor in CV disease. I'm going to carry on taking it reluctantly, but also hopeful that it could prevent a stroke or heart attack, as I have a family history of heart disease."

"I had my thyroid gland destroyed. My doctor told me it would cause a false elevation with my cholesterol. Fast forward several years. New nurse practitioner. Blood work done, high cholesterol. Was put on generic Crestor. She said it wouldn't make a difference if my thyroid was destroyed. Have genetic high cholesterol. So, I ended up on rosuvastatin. I took 10 mg for 7 days. I felt like I had the flu. Hurt all over. Nausea. I decided to take 10 mg 3 times a week. I'd get out of my car and actually felt stiff and limped. Told my nurse practitioner and she didn't believe Crestor did that. Lowered my cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides some. So, I decreased to 5 mg 3 times a week. Same symptoms, nothing changed. I feel like I'm 90. So, I stopped it for a week. Felt pretty good. Had energy. Tried 5 mg again. Nauseous, same issues. Miserable. Recheck in 2 weeks. Decided to go on a low-fat diet and walk 5 days a week. I can't keep taking this drug."

Rosuvastatin "My prescribed dosage, which I stuck with for 5 years until I reduced it, was 1 x 20 mg per day. This eventually resulted in severe hip/leg pain, which greatly reduced my ability to walk. Being very obese, I did not need any decreased mobility. After a period of experimenting based on my own research, not the doctor's, I have arrived at a dosage level that prevents angina and lowers my cholesterol to a level my doctor is happy with. I am now taking 6 x 20 tablets p/wk. That is not a big decrease, but it seems to be enough to almost completely stop the intense pain I was suffering. I have investigated/experimented with the reduced dosage extensively and it is the 'happy medium.' For me, it is a good drug, if used at the right level. Without it completely, I know I would be experiencing heart/circulation problems. Prior to me making my own decisions about dosage level, my previous doctor told me that I would need a hip replacement. I have since changed doctors and am happy with the adjusted dose."

Rosuvastatin "I’ve been taking generic Crestor for about a year. It’s the first time I’ve lasted that long on any statin. I have familial high cholesterol. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve started having extreme fatigue, dizziness, and depression/confused brain. Don’t really know how to describe it. I’m due for blood tests this week, but don’t know if I can take even one more dose. Will call the doctor tomorrow and see if I can come then for blood tests. I take 5mg every other day."

"I’m 42, manage to exercise, eat fairly clean, and am in good overall health. I’m starting to notice that when I take this, even every other day or a half dose, my hands and feet begin to react. It usually starts in my toes. They become red, swollen, burn, and sometimes itch. The temperature of them also becomes noticeably hot. Some days the joints in my toes hurt, and my feet, ankles, and calves begin to swell. It also affects my fingers and hands. I’m sure this medication is the cause because I’ve stopped taking it before, and my symptoms go away. From what I could find on the internet for my symptoms is a rare condition called Erythromelalgia (EM). Doctors don’t seem to know anything about it, nor can I find any studies on this condition related to this drug. I hope this review doesn’t make anyone not try this medication because it could work for you; I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else has had this happen to them as well."

Rosuvastatin "Been on Crestor for almost a month. 20 mg daily for genetic high cholesterol. Triglycerides started at 1100! I immediately noticed the muscle weakness and belly pains. My hips, knees, and ankles ache constantly!"

Rosuvastatin "Was on Simvastatin (40 mg) and within two days had severe shooting pains in knees. Started cutting in half and pain dissipated. Told doctor I was cutting in half and reason, and instead of lowering dosage, they switched me to Crestor (40 mg). After about 10 doses, finger joints began to swell and pain with hip joint pain. Stopped taking. It's been 5 weeks and fingers still are painful and stiff, making everyday tasks hard. Am back to cutting dosages in half. Will post if that makes a difference and my blood fat improves."

Rosuvastatin "I took Caduet, which contains Lipitor, for two years and had leg cramps and developed a chronic cough with asthma. I got off the medication and started taking Crestor 5mg, and I love it. No cramps, no cough, and it lowered my cholesterol even at the reduced dosage."

"Oh my goodness! I have gone from being a very active 59-year-old to an almost crippled 90-year-old. Within days of taking this medication, I could hardly walk. That’s no exaggeration. My knees were completely broken. I hobbled. The doctor fobbed me off and said it’s osteoarthritis. I got knee braces to help, but it just got worse. My quality of life shattered. My darling sister asked me if I had changed medication, and I said yes, just 10 mg of rosuvastatin. So she read the reviews on here and oh my goodness! I stopped taking them just 3 days ago, and already I can walk! The muscles in my legs are still weak, but 1000 times better... Please, if you are having these side effects, don’t take it."

Rosuvastatin "Crestor lowered my cholesterol, but the muscle pain in my back was intolerable. So I finally started taking CoQ10, and the back pain went away. But for the following two years, I thought I had shin splints. It was the Crestor."

Rosuvastatin "Crestor was the worst medication for me. I developed hip pain, leg pain, knee pain, trouble moving around, tired, not sleeping, can't lay flat, and to top it off, it landed me in the ER with a swollen throat, trouble breathing, and a swollen neck. Let me not forget eye twitch. Such major bad reactions. Been off of it one day after being treated with IV and oral steroids. 85% better after one day. Looking forward to tomorrow."

"Absolutely horrible drug. Took Crestor (5 mg) for around 3 months until I figured out it was poisoning me. Started in the feet with nerve pain and edema. Moved into lower back and legs. Aggravated sciatica in my lower back and neck. Two weeks of torture. Quit 5 days ago, noticed some improvements to my lower back and feet. Neck is still bad. May take days to weeks to get better. Praying no long-term damage. Also experienced shoulder pain, high blood pressure, and headaches. Told my Dr I would rather take my chances."

Rosuvastatin "I had triglycerides of 400. I was put on Crestor 5mg. After a month, they were down to 280. By 5 weeks, my legs and arms would wake me up at night with horrible aches. My feet got so bad I would get out of bed and have to hold on because the muscles were numb. Went back to the doctor. I take it 3 times a week now. No side effects. With a coupon online, I pay $1.00 for a 30-day supply. Shop around. I will go back in 2 weeks to see if 3 times a week helps lower the triglycerides at all."

"I was prescribed Rosuvastatin/Crestor for high cholesterol (total 210 - 230). Started with 5 mg one month, then 10, 20, and finally 40 mg daily. Had regular lower extremity painful muscle spasms all during this time but assumed I had pulled something during a workout. I had monthly blood tests and my CK reached dangerously high levels (990's) and I had a distal bicep tendon rupture requiring surgery. My doc had me stop and refuses to attempt any more statin use due to my dangerous intolerance. My CK appears permanently elevated (700 - 800), I have permanent muscle damage to hips and thighs, but at least the muscle spasms are less frequent. This medication had very negative and permanent side effects for me. Glad it works for others."

"I took 5 mg for 2 nights. The morning of the third day, I woke up yelling from a nightmare at 5 am. I don't have nightmares or dreams, and I sleep well. My wrists and feet ached, and the back of my shoulders ached. I could barely use my hands, they hurt so bad. I got diarrhea. The aches went away by 3 pm. I still have diarrhea two days later. I stopped taking the pill. I did some research, and one of the rare side effects is sleep disturbance and nightmares. I called my doctor and left a message. Her assistant called me back and said the doctor has never heard of nightmares as a side effect and didn't feel it was related. I called the pharmacy. It is related. It is a rare side effect. I will not take this again. My aches have gone, I slept well last night, like I always do, and my diarrhea is better. This drug is not my answer."

"Started Rosuvastatin (Crestor) 4 months ago. I had to discontinue due to a swollen vein in my thigh that developed (a known side effect). I had never had this problem before. It also increased my knee, leg, and back pain, mostly in the veins and muscles. The abnormal swelling in my vein was about the size of a golf ball. Very scary side effect. I told my PCP that I will not take this statin again. It's been 4 months since, and the swelling of my vein is just now returning to normal."
