For Pulmonary Embolism "I have had 2 incidences with DVT and PE in 2012. First one, both leg and lung. Leg swelled, was being told everything but DVT. Went to the hospital, they found it. All the hospital things, interventional radiology went in and shot PE with clot busters. ICU 4 days, heparin drip, then Lovenox shots. Came home on Coumadin for 9 months. 3 years later, massive PE, only symptom with this was SOB. Seen all the doctors: heart, hematologist, vascular, pulmonary, can't find the WHY this happened. Taking Xarelto now for 10 months, will be on it for life. I do not have any side effects that I am aware of, or that bother me. Taking it religiously every night. Only scary thing is no antidote as of now, and afraid it will come back. CAT scans showed it has improved."

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "I had multiple pulmonary embolisms a month ago and am using Xarelto 15 mg in the morning and 15 mg at night. I am very happy with it compared to warfarin I used 15 years ago for a DVT. The only complaint I have is that I feel tired and exhausted most of the time. My hair loss is less than with warfarin. I hope these side effects diminish because I have to be on blood thinners for life."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Have been on Xarelto now for 2 months without any complaints. I've not had the out of the ordinary dreams that others have reported. I am an endurance athlete, and other than deconditioning from a forced no-exercise restriction for 4 weeks, I cannot say that this medicine limits my performance. I must say I have had some very short-duration dizzy spells on occasion, but definitely not the norm. My insurance required that Xarelto be preauthorized prior to getting it. So far, I am very happy with its performance and convenience."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I am 20 years old, and I just started the rivaroxaban 2 weeks ago, after they found a clot in my arm! I'm on 20 mg twice a day for 3 weeks and then 15 mg for 3 months. I find I am really tired all the time, and I do get a good bit of sleep at night too! I never usually got headaches before, but now I find around an hour after taking the pill, I get a headache! Just wondering, is this due to the pill, or am I just overthinking it!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I have been on it for 2 years and have started having irregular heartbeats, sore joints, dizziness, tiredness, to the point that I don't even want to get out of my chair, and a lot of other side effects. I am working to get off this drug, I don't like what it is doing to me."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I’ve been on this drug since Sep 2017. Sometime in November 2017, I’ve experienced some right leg pain, posterior calf and hamstring pain while driving. I’m very active and still managed to work out almost at least 5 times a week. The pain subsided in late December 2017 but I’m still experiencing the same pain occasionally. Now I guess the drug also triggers my BPH. Any thoughts on this?"

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had a doctor that did not tell me about a PE and DVT. So one morning I felt like I ran a 50-yard dash and could not catch my breath. I waited too long and went to the ER. They gave me TPA and heparin. Had the branch blocked and the right side of my heart was stressed. ICU for 3 1/2 days later I got out. I was on Xarelto twice a day and have just finished them now on once a day. I have not seen hair loss because I am already follicly challenged. I don't see anything that causes me to worry about life. I do look forward to being off it. They said 3 months and I'm done. Although my primary doctor wants me to be on it for 6 months. That will be a conversation I will tell her no! I am very active and can't afford to worry about bleeding if I fall. In conclusion, I am very happy that the technology is what it is today."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Been on over 7 months. Now on 10 mg by my own will plus research concluding that Xarelto 10 mg is more effective than aspirin. These sites lack knowledge and unquestionable advice. First of all, drink mostly water if you want the best combined results. Don't take 10 mg unless that is what your doctor told you or you have passed the end of your treatment program based on your algorithm. We all have one. Reduce consumption of colored drinks. Always wear stockings if there is a swelling problem. Exercise prevents new DVT on top of Xarelto."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I had an ablation. I already had five stents. The procedure went well. The recuperation was a bear. They prescribed Xarelto. Maybe it was good to prevent clotting after the post-op. Horrible stuff. Three-dimensional dreams and not sure sometimes if I was awake or not. After 21 days, I begged to get off. The dreams and low energy continued for a few more weeks. The Doc did not want me off, it protects them from bigger problems. Back to two baby aspirin. It costs $750 for thirty if you don’t have insurance. Horrible stuff!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "In answer to the change of health after going from 30 mg a day to 20 mg: I was diagnosed with a massive saddle PE on May 1, 2016, after having uncontrolled sweating with subsequent shortness of breath. 911 call, ER, BP 60/40 w/pulse 130-160. Doctor said surprised I made it to the hospital. Healthy, active 56 yr old released after an overnight stay with 6 mos Xarelto therapy. Was fine with 21 days 15 mg 2x a day; 20 mg change made me feel like I was dying. Realized it was too much for my system at one time; cut the pill in half & took 1/2 2x a day--still got my 20 mg & felt good again. Finished with treatment for the moment; since it was unprovoked, they've done extensive tests to find I have Factor 5. Waiting to see how 2.5 mg Eliquis 2x a day 6 mos works; just started."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I had been taking warfarin for many years for antiphospholipid syndrome and been pestering my Dr. if I could switch to Xarelto instead, as I'd had enough of the constant INR tests. Finally, my haematologist agreed. (The drug is not normally prescribed for my condition.) I was given 20 mg to be taken once daily with breakfast. The first two weeks passed with no problems, but on the third week, I had a really bad dizzy spell and almost fainted. Fortunately, I managed to sit down before I did faint. I spoke to my haematologist, and she suggested that I take it just before going to bed instead of the morning. So far, it's worked. With my condition, migraines are a symptom, and they have gotten slightly worse since taking Xarelto. But I still much prefer it to warfarin & INR tests!"

For Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "Xa inhibitors such as Xarelto are increasingly becoming more commonly prescribed and are very effective in treating antiphospholipid syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that causes 'sticky blood,' resulting in clots) as an alternative to warfarin, particularly in the cases of patients such as myself who had unstable INR results. The side effects have been minimal and possibly can't all necessarily be blamed on Xarelto as I take many other medications, some with similar side effects such as tiredness and headaches. The worst side effect for me is dizziness, but my specialist recommended I take it just before bed instead of in the morning as the dizziness wears off within several hours."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I am a 37-year-old whose body hates me. May 20th, I had a hernia repair (the 1st surgery went bad). 3 weeks later, I got an infection in my incision. The doctor did a CT scan. That's when he saw the clot in my ovarian vein, 8 cm long. He admitted me to the hospital immediately. I was on a heparin drip and strong antibiotics. After 2 days, blood was flowing a tad bit better. I was put on Xarelto. So far, it seems okay. Minor side effects: sore back, very mild dizzy spells, sore stomach (maybe from surgery and infection), and some weird tingling in my mouth. Nothing major after being on it for almost a month. I do have to be on it for a total of 6 months. Hope nothing else happens. I can handle the side effects I do have. Just hope it makes the clot go away."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I have my second DVT and have been on rivaroxaban for almost five weeks. I'm grateful my leg is less painful, and I believe it's working, however, I have experienced bleeding of the gums unprovoked and also had my first-ever nosebleed in the night. Never had one in 48 years!! I'm on 20 mg once a day, so I think it's making my blood too thin!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "I take Xarelto for pulmonary embolisms and for DVT. My son takes it for DVT. We both have Factor V Leiden. We both experience really bad leg pain, we both have chest pains, pains in hands and arms. We both feel very cold all the time. There are more symptoms, but those are the worst symptoms. I have been on Xarelto for only 5 months. My son has been on it for 2-3 years. Without insurance, it is $375.00 a month. My insurance covers mine, but he has no insurance. He keeps losing his jobs because he can't work due to blood clots and/or his leg pain."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "Xarelto should never be prescribed to anyone with a bleeding disorder. It will cause severe bleeding that, in my situation, required spending a night in the ER and required that I be taken off this medication immediately."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was taking Xarelto for DVTs in my right leg. For the most part, the drug went as expected. Until I got a nosebleed. When it started, it was like any other. Then the bleeding started like a cut vein. And it would not stop. I was rushed to emergency at a local hospital, where they shoved 2 devices that were to help it stop. They did not work, and the ER doc on hand had to put larger ones in. I was told at the time there weren't any drugs that would slow the bleeding down. It was time and compression that worked. It scared the hell out of me. As of now, I will not go back on it due to these effects. And also due to my work. If I got a bleed in the place I work, it'd be disastrous."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I developed multiple blood clots in my lungs after a trip to Canada and America. It wasn't until I returned home that I found out I had them and was put on 15 mg twice a day for 3 weeks before switching to 20 mg once a day. I have just stopped taking Xarelto after 6 and a half months and found no problem with it! Aside from bruising easily, it sure beat the alternative (injections), so I am very grateful for all it has done. I am 20 years old and am happy to say I only have a bit of scar tissue left over."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Have been taking Xarelto 20 mg for about 3 years. My hair is falling out, but the cardiologist will not agree that it is caused by the Xarelto. If this hair loss continues, I will be bald in the near future. Has anyone had this problem?"

For Atrial Fibrillation "My husband started 20 mg of Xarelto on 12/14/10. He had a hemorrhagic stroke on 9/28/21 that was fatal from this drug. His cardiologist said that they are seeing more and more brain bleeds with this drug. At least with the older drug, warfarin, regular blood work is done to check on bleeding/clotting. Follow-up reviews show that this drug in excess of 10 mg is causing brain bleeds."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I developed a pulmonary embolism following a partial hysterectomy. I was given Xarelto for six months. It worked well for me. As a 35-year-old mom with young children, I appreciated the convenience, since it doesn't require injections or weekly blood tests. It can be rough on your stomach if you have previous stomach issues. (I have GERD.) But taking an acid blocker like Zantac helps relieve symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you have any stomach concerns. This was an excellent drug for me."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Recurrent Event "I was put on Xarelto in July of 2015. I had a very large blood clot that covered my whole left leg. I took the drug regularly, not missing a pill. I had another ultrasound Doppler done on the same leg just a week ago, and I have another blood clot in the same leg. Now this drug says you're not supposed to get any more blood clots while on the drug. Well, it never worked for me."
