For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Doc put me on this after finding a small blood clot in calf after TKR. First month was not bad but after that, my upper stomach started to hurt off & on all day, every day, migraine headaches every night, insomnia every night and horrible itching at site of incision, bleeding hemorrhoids also. Had a Doppler taken after 2 months and it did not find any clots. Dr took me off of Xarelto cold turkey. Very frightening because I was told you should be weaned off of it but doc seemed to be ok with immediately stopping. It has been 4 days since I stopped and all the above symptoms went away, thank goodness."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I made a comment here a couple of years ago when I had just been put on Xarelto, before that I had been on Eliquis. The side effects were too bad, especially with Xarelto, that I stopped any medication. However, a change in Cardiologist, and I was eventually persuaded to try another, PRADAXA. This one suits me and I have no side effects at all. Xarelto gave me really bad migraines, my head felt as if it was swelling and my eyes popping out. I couldn’t get out of bed most days. I will never forget that. You have to take responsibility for your health. Always speak to your Doctor first. If you're not happy, get a second opinion."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was put on Xarelto after a small P.E. in the lower lobe of my right lung and have not felt right since. I am tired all the time, have no energy, migraines, dizzy, and also increased anxiety. The reason I decided to take Xarelto over the other blood thinners was because of not having to go to the doctor monthly, which I believe is the only good thing about this medication. Can't wait to go off of it in a month. I'm so thankful to read the comments and see I am not the only one suffering these side effects."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Last summer I was placed on Xarelto after a dermatologist botched my laser leg vein surgery and caused a DVT. I am an otherwise healthy 50-year-old woman. I did not want to go on Coumadin as I am familiar with the side effects and monitoring required. I was sick on Xarelto the entire time, and the minute that I stopped it, most of the side effects went away. It took about two weeks for all side effects to subside. Side effects included migraine headaches (first time in my life), sharp pins and needles pain in hands and fingers, swollen joints especially finger joints, muscle cramps - especially legs and toes, etc."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Have been on Xarelto for 2 1/2 years after pulmonary embolism. First 20 mg, then 15 mg, now 10 mg. Have experienced a lot of negative side effects. Muscle and skeletal pain, intense burning pain in legs and other parts of the body. Limits my movement tremendously and has had a very negative effect on my lifestyle. I am in pain every day even with painkillers. If I stop Xarelto for a few days, I feel a lot better and am able to walk without little pain. My doctor says it's my imagination. That pain is not coming from Xarelto! Frustrating."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Been on it about 5 weeks for AF. Immediately experienced muscle spasms in odd places (side of my head, neck, second knuckle joint, one rib) and as time went on, crippling spasms affecting mobility (feet, legs, shoulders). Got the doc's OK to go off it tonight, hooray!"

For Atrial Fibrillation "First 5 weeks on Xarelto I had explosive diarrhea. A sac of blood formed at the back of my mouth and broke while brushing teeth. I had wondered if the sac was pus signaling abscess, however, after the sac broke and blood flowed, no other problems occurred. My eyes have sandy substances that I am continually rubbing away, eyes are red, irritated, look tired. Sometimes I cannot read what is on a computer screen or in a book. I have tiredness/weakness. Also, headaches/neck aches, which are not normal for me. Will be discussing these at an appointment in July. I have been on Xarelto for 4 1/2 months."

For Atrial Fibrillation "The drug works. It thins your blood! I've been on Xarelto for 1 year and am quitting it. I have a loop monitor for 6 months and no AFib. One doctor says to quit it, while another says to stay on it. Some score they use says I can quit, so that's what I'm going to do. In the first six months, I had some muscle pain, but I blamed Lipitor. I started to get blurry vision, so the eye doctor said everything was fine. Now I'm a year in. I have 2 large bruises on both legs and my big toe just recently for really no apparent reason. I have nosebleeds almost daily, muscle pain in my bicep and upper back, along with a heavy feeling in my legs when walking. Shortness of breath comes out of nowhere and lasts less than an hour, it happens on occasion. I quit, and so far, the muscle pain has subsided."

For Atrial Fibrillation "My mom has AF and didn't take any blood thinner before. She went to the emergency room in the U.S. and the doctor prescribed this drug to her. She followed the instructions to take the medicine. About 25 days later, she got brain bleeding and woke up three weeks later after surgery. Another two weeks later, she had the second brain bleeding, and a few weeks later, she passed away. It took my mom to heaven. What should I say?"

For Pulmonary Embolism "At 17 years of age, my daughter was admitted to the ER for breathing discomfort. She was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism in both lungs and DVT. The cause of the embolism was from taking birth control pills for only one week. She gave herself Lovenox injections for one year with no side effects but bruising. She was then put on Xarelto for 6 months. The first couple of weeks of taking Xarelto, she started experiencing hair loss, leg pain, headaches, and severe anxiety. She has lost more than half of her hair and she hardly has any eyebrow hair. We are absolutely certain the medication is the cause. She takes 25 mg once daily. The doctor will not take her off of the Xarelto. Thankfully, she only has 2 more months to go. But with all the bad reviews such as uncontrolled bleeding, stroke, and death, it has me worried sick all day and night."

For Pulmonary Embolism "On Xarelto 15 mg for 4 weeks twice a day and now 20 mg once a day. I have one month left. I went to the ER after one month of treatment for what felt like another PE ...only to find out that my original PE site was clear and I have nothing else. Therefore, I’m convinced the symptoms I’m experiencing are side effects from the drug. Constant tiredness, lightheadedness, bouts of shortness of breath followed by random body aches and anxiety. The anxiety is body anxiety where I get shaky... I can’t deal with any type of interaction or social stimulation or I get short of breath and anxious. Prior to this, I was a very socially active person, but now I cannot withstand a short visit from anyone. From the infarctions from a PE, I still have lingering side effects with physical exertion, but I still do believe that they are intensified from this drug, especially the neurological side effects. Xarelto does have horrible side effects (not for everyone), but it saved my life, so I hate to complain about it."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I've been on Xarelto now for a month, and I'm sure it's working quickly, as I noticed within 24 hours of my incident (small PE in left lung). I couldn't believe the sharp pains subsided and breathing improved in that short amount of time. Since I've been taking this for a month now and actually lowered the dose from 30 mg to 20 mg daily, I feel worse and worse. I feel like I have the hangover of the century all the time, no alcohol. I cannot tolerate it on this drug. Burning eyes, constant headache, extreme headache, and fatigue, exhausted, in bed by 6:00 PM usually. I have two teenagers and a job, finding it hard to carry on with my life. I'm so depressed. It's bad enough to have this happen, but this Xarelto is making me miserable!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was on Coumadin from 2008-2013. I am now 28 years old. Imagine how I react when I go to a doctor, get told about Xarelto, that I do NOT need to see my doctor weekly to biweekly, and I CAN EAT GREENS! It was a miracle for me. Yes, the bleeding risk is still there. But a once daily pill for my chronic recurrent deep vein thrombosis versus modifying multiple times my Coumadin based on fluctuating INR levels is a godsend. My PCP was about to put me on the similar Xa-inhibitor medication but this came out. Off to enjoy sautéed spinach!"

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Xarelto for 7 months. I had bleeding in both eyes the first month, bleeding from hemorrhoids after that, and still do. My joints and muscles hurt so bad, and it's actually hard to walk at times. I have swollen legs, feet, and hands. I do know I am overweight and 71 years old, but my blood pressure is controlled on meds. I do have afib, but I want off this terrible medication. The doctor told me they are all the same and I need to stay on it. Coumadin made me terribly sick, dizzy, and tired. I am ready to give up and just take natural thinners."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I’m writing this to let anyone/everyone please stay away from Xarelto. It killed my father within months. My mom and dad were married 50 years. He made it a couple of months after their 50th wedding anniversary. My mother and I will never forget the day that changed our lives forever because of this medication. It caused him to have a stroke and bleed to death. There is no reversing Xarelto. It is very dangerous, and the pharmaceutical companies don’t care as long as they're getting their money. Please stop your loved ones from taking Xarelto. Please!!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "Absolutely hate Xarelto. Hate it. I had PEs in both lungs discovered in December 2019 when I had severe shortness of breath. 22 at the time, female. Had started birth control two weeks prior, was dehydrated, and was doing a lot of sitting down due to finals. 15 mg twice a day worked for me, only had fatigue and night sweats to deal with. I've been on the 20 mg once a day for about 5 months now, and I feel worse every day. Headaches all the time, fatigue, excessive sweating, rapid heart rate, leg pains that give me anxiety about more possible clots, heavy periods, chest pains that make me feel like I'm not getting better. It's hard for me to sleep at night with how uncomfortable I always am. Off it mid-June. Can't wait."

For Atrial Fibrillation "It killed my beloved mother in July 2014, she was suddenly rushed by ambulance in the early morning hours. She had several ischemic strokes and had uncontrollable bleeding after surgery. She died due to taking Xarelto. Now I've been turned down by lawyers because the death report said she died from C.O.P.D., and I'm trying to find another law firm that will take my case. The end result is death from this bad drug."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Horrible side effects from this drug. I have a page full of side effects experienced, but the worst of it was rapid heartbeat, no energy spells, feeling like passing out, and anxiety with some sleepless nights. Been off of it for a little over a week and still feel some effects from it! Stay away from this drug if you can."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had a pulmonary embolism in March 2014. I am happy with Xarelto in that it is a pill I can take without weekly blood work. My only complaint is that I am losing my hair in clumps! I tell you it is like I am taking chemo or something. I used to have very thick, long hair, and now my hair falls out horribly in the shower, when I brush it, all day long on my clothes, in the car, whatever. Hair loss is not currently listed as a side effect, but I called the 800 number of the company and put in a complaint about it as many others have."

For Atrial Fibrillation "After starting Xarelto, I saw no change after a few days, so I headed out to my sales territory. I decided to spend the night in Chattanooga. I urinated before midnight and thought I saw a slight pink tint to my urine. I got up to urinate about 2 hours later and decided to pee in a cup. Definitely reddish. I used another cup about 4 AM, and when I got up about 5:30-6 AM, this time my urine looked like ketchup water. I canceled safety talks and headed home to see my doctor. Definitely had blood in my urine. He stopped Xarelto. Back to Coumadin and monitoring."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on Xarelto for afib for just over 1 year. Did not experience any side effects until recently, I had blood in my urine. Up to then, the degree of afib did not improve. I am assuming the blood was attributed to kidney stones, but I had none of the symptoms, e.g., no pain at all and no difficulty in urinating. My doctor told me to stop taking the Xarelto immediately, which I did, and 6 days later my urine is pale yellow and clear, and assuming it continues to be, I'll take my chances and forget about blood thinners."

For Atrial Fibrillation "My mother was on these for 9 months. It caused her to have constant, severe diarrhea. Just yesterday, she had a major bleed while going to the toilet. She had numerous tests on her tummy troubles a few months back, and they found nothing wrong. Obviously, doctors prescribed these and couldn't be bothered reading up on the drug. She has been so sick for 6 months. Crazy."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with a big DVT in my right leg in Oct. 2015. Was put on Xarelto for 6 months. Two months ago, had another ultrasound and no clots. I am 66 years old. The doctor just took me off Xarelto 4 days ago, and now I'm worried about having a stroke, more clots, etc. (thanks to all the scary commercials on TV), so now I'm stressed about being 'off' Xarelto. I didn't have any side effects that I am aware of while on Xarelto, luckily. The doctor told me to stay active (I sit 8 hours a day at work connected to a computer and phone), so I am sure this is why I got the clots to start with. I move my legs around under my desk and stand up for a few minutes every hour or two when I can. Will see what happens from here."
