Zantac (ranitidine) for GERD "Horrible side effects. My mouth and tongue swelled up. Difficulty swallowing, which is why the doctor prescribed it for me in the first place. He said it was a symptom of 'silent' acid reflux. Found a rash on my leg. Heart palpitations and massive stomach aches. Didn't do a thing for reflux or the belching and burping it was supposed to cure."

For GERD "Acid reflux settled in my ears, 10 years of tubes and finally found a doctor that told me it was acid reflux. I did have mild GERD sporadically. I am up to 300 mg 2x daily of ranitidine. No more tubes. Acid under control. If I don't take my meds, my ears itch. Burning stomach is back. I try to control portions, but I love spicy food. So, I stick with ranitidine. Works within an hour. I also think it helps keep some allergy symptoms down a bit."

For GERD "Ok, folks, I can only speak for myself. Ranitidine does work, but the side effects are horrific for me: insomnia, anxiety, lightheadedness, upset stomach; the list is endless. To the extent my GP was going to send me down the mental health road. So I stopped taking them. Result: my anxiety is down, sleep better, calmness good. It has been a nightmare for 6 months. If I can help, I would suggest you question the medication. It's a double-edged sword, no gain without pain, but it surely should not be like this in the 21st century. I really do feel for you people; you are not alone."

For Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions "Works well. Sometimes need to supplement with omeprazole (Nexium). On occasion, at least lately, may cause mild stomach upset."
