For Diabetic Kidney Disease "I have type 1 diabetes as well. I was put on this medication about 3 months ago. My blood pressure was 127/80, which isn't bad, but because of my diabetes, it was suggested. So far, it's lowered my blood pressure, and I have had no side effects using the pills, and it worked within a month."

For High Blood Pressure "Have just started ramipril 2.5 mg. It is the second day and felt extremely tired last night, otherwise, okay. My BP had been steadily climbing up to 155/99. I had been on amlodipine last year for about 6 weeks, which lowered my BP to a normal 128/68. However, my left leg started to break out in a large itchy rash, and the only thing different was taking amlodipine-so I stopped. Now I am on steroid cream for the rash, but still bits are there after 6 months. When reading side effects, I see it is a rare side effect of the amlodipine. So I will see how I cope with ramipril when I have been on it a while."

For High Blood Pressure "38 age. BMI of 23. High BP 153/90 average based on a day 24-hour reading. Started Ramipril 5 mg. After 5 weeks, no side effects. Will get tested if my kidneys take it well in a week via blood test, says my GP. Last reading says 103/77, but was higher average 120/80 (home measure sitting). I also take hibiscus tea and arugula, which are very helpful. I believe this helped as well to bring my BP down."

For High Blood Pressure "It takes 3-5 hours before it starts working, and it does not work for 24 hours as stated. I would say 10 mg will lose its effect 18 hours later. Also, it depletes zinc from your body (important for the immune system), use iron supplements, B-complex, and D3 vitamins, they help with the cough caused by ramipril. Usual BP med side effects: tiredness/fatigue, so I use it in the evening. On the other hand, ramipril is still much more effective for me than horrible amlodipine or useless propranolol. I don't even mention pathetic dehydrating, gastro-damaging diuretics..."

For High Blood Pressure "Have just started Ramipril 10 mg daily this week. While I do endure a mild, annoying headache, I have been able to feel free breathing. I appreciate the many comments posted, they have been informative and consoling. To the gentleman who lost his wife, my sincerest condolences. Thank you for the warning, I hope research is forthcoming to prevent such a tragedy from happening again."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Ramipril 2.5 mg for four weeks now, and BP has dropped from an average of 140/90 to 121/82, so slightly above normal. I had an aching back for the first two weeks, but that settled. Today, after four weeks, I have a slight headache but suspect that is the cold weather rather than the tablets. I am taking mine at night, as I read this was better to avoid the early morning increase in BP and also so if there was dizziness, I'd be asleep, so would be okay. Not due back to the doctor for another two months, so will continue monitoring and will call him if things change before then. Fingers crossed this will continue to be okay for me."

For High Blood Pressure "I am 78 years old and was put on ramipril for high blood pressure, starting off on 2.5, and then, as my blood pressure did not improve, it was gradually increased to 10 mg. After each increase in medication, I had a blood test, and as I can view my results online, I noticed that my liver count was gradually increasing from 17 to eventually being 58! I commented to the doctor about this and was told it didn't affect the liver. I am not on ramipril anymore and have had bloods taken again, and my liver count has gone back to 18."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "Been on Ramipril for two weeks for 140/87 BP, and I could handle the light head and lethargy, but what I cannot handle is the risk, albeit small, of lung cancer, which some reports on the internet have shown. It is a very small risk, but with cancer in my family, I am terrified of any risk."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I had a heart attack two months ago. I didn't realize what it was. The next day I went to my doctor and ended up in the hospital. My right main artery was almost blocked, and two stents were fitted. My heart was (mercifully) undamaged, and I am fine now, with no symptoms, and I really wouldn't even know that anything had even happened to me. Re Ramipril, I am currently on 2.5 mg, and my pharmacist (UK) wants to get me up to the max dose of 10 mg as long as I can tolerate it, and it seems that I can since so far I have had no side effects whatsoever. However, I am questioning the point of it in exactly the same way as you. I think the reason is that after a cardiovascular event, it is better for the heart to have an easier time, and very low blood pressure helps with that. I am also on beta blockers (Bisoprolol), aspirin, and a big (80 mg) statin."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on ramipril for a year now. Had a headache for 2 weeks, went to see the nurse. Said I had high BP, was put on 2.5 mg. All was good for 3 months when the dreaded headache returned for 2 weeks. Was put up to 5 mg and just before Christmas, again headaches returned. I'm now on 10 mg and my BP the other day was still 167/102, which for 30 years old is high. I'm being monitored, but I am on a course of steroids for eczema, so could be that why it hasn't lowered, but the ramipril is great. Had no side effects at all."

For High Blood Pressure "Blood pressure picked up after attending the minor injury unit for something unrelated. The first drug made me dizzy, so I was prescribed ramipril 2.5 mg. After 2 days, I felt like someone was sitting on my chest, BP still high, anxiety, and generally feeling crap. I went in feeling fine just for a check-up after a minor accident at work and was medicated ill. Stopped and seeing the doctor."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on 2.5 mg for a few days. So far, I've had dizziness, tiredness, and a dry throat, but no cough. The side effects, although annoying at the moment, are easily bearable. I had a prior reading of around 180/110, and a few days in, it's still the same. I read that the drug began working straight away, but I will persevere until my next medical in 3 weeks and see what happens. So for the moment, I've rated it 1 out of 10, as for me, I've not seen a drop in BP and now have additional side effects to contend with."

For High Blood Pressure "Was prescribed this medication at 2.5 mg Ramipril as a daily dose. No side effects other than feeling a great sense of calm and relaxation that I have never had my whole life. I don't snap or shout anymore, and my blood pressure has gone from an average of 157/86 down to 119/72. I feel so good on this medication I can't believe it. Started intermittent fasting and gym 3-4 times a week has possibly helped me too, can cut out crisps, biscuits, chocolate, and cakes from my diet, so lost a stone in my first 4 weeks."

For High Blood Pressure "I am 72. I was fit and active until Covid. I developed high blood pressure 4 years ago, and my doctor prescribed Amlodipine 5 mgs, it worked well. Sadly, last year I developed side effects: frequent palpitations, chest pain, swollen ankles, and chronic fatigue. My GP stopped them in December 2024. My blood pressure increased to 170/98, and 3 weeks ago, another GP prescribed Ramipril 1.25 mgs once in the morning, it did nothing. Increased again to 5 mgs, then 7.5 mgs. I feel really off color, heavy legs, numbness in my feet, belly ache, nausea, and panicky. It has lowered my blood pressure to an average of 122/66. I will speak to my doctor tomorrow and discuss changing meds, I think for my age my BP is too low, and I just want to feel well again."

For High Blood Pressure "Many years on Coversyl plus 4/1.25 mg. BP unvariable at 118/86. However, product changed to 5/1.25 mg, started suffering from diarrhea. Changed to ramipril 5 mg, 4 months ago, mornings. Recent morning BP 135/105, lunchtime 120/90. Evening 135/95. Diarrhea disappeared with change of medication. Amlodipine 5 mg added recently. 4th day, lunchtime reading 115/75, but some side effects being felt. Earlier this morning, prior to ramipril, 120/90. Diastolic BP seems to be my problem. Anyone with some experience there how to manage it with less medication?"

For Heart Attack "I was prescribed Ramipril (5 mg/daily) and 4 other medications (Aspirin, Effient, Atorvastatin, and Coreg) after a heart attack 6 years ago. The only side effect I've had is constipation. I don't take the Coreg or Effient anymore, but the constipation has continued, but is diminished. So I can't say for sure which medication is causing the issue. I take 1 small capsule of Ducosate Sodium daily to counteract this side effect (the full dose of 3 capsules seems to be too much for me). This seems to do the trick for me. I have always had slightly low blood pressure. The Ramipril lowers it a bit more (unfortunately). I believe that after a heart attack, an ACE inhibitor is almost always prescribed regardless of blood pressure."

"I've been on this drug for a few weeks, and what led me to this website is this: I have been searching for an answer which I cannot find. Doesn't anyone else have a loss of appetite? I don't get hungry; if it weren't for our routine - lunch at noon and dinner at 6 p.m., I would completely forget, and when I do, I don't eat a lot. It gave me headaches at first, but it's getting better. I have no other side effects. This drug isn't bad, and as long as it's keeping me alive, then I don't mind taking them."

For High Blood Pressure "I am diabetic following pancreatitis. Ramipril has lowered my blood pressure from around 145/90 to around 135/85 in just a week or so, but as soon as I started taking it, I started having a lot of hypos. I have had to reduce my doses of Levemir from 18 units twice a day to 12 units twice a day. No other side effects."

Ramipril for High Blood Pressure "I have taken Altace along with a diuretic for about 20 years, and the problem was it lowered my blood pressure too much that my doctor had me take it only 3 times a week. Other than that, I have no side effects."

For High Blood Pressure "Went to the doctor with ear ache and tinnitus, came out with high blood pressure 220 and vertigo. Been on tablets almost 3 weeks, 2.5g, also given up Coca-Cola, 2 bottles a day, no salt, 8 hours sleep, not 3 hrs a day. Also cut down on alcohol. Tinnitus is still here, but BP has gone down slightly, 158 was the last check. No side effects apart from tinnitus getting louder after 2 maybe 3 hours after the tablet. I don't seem to have dizziness or any other symptoms, probably as I smoke bud and I'm used to it (best to be honest). I'm on a 28-day course. I will get back to you all. Feel free to comment."

For High Blood Pressure "I'm 72 and just started taking this. I was very reluctant, as I don't like taking any medication and am very wary of all medications. However, I took it, and it works fine for me. I don't have any side effects. I already have a bit of a cough from asthma, and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I've only been taking it for a month, and it's working, so I will see how it goes."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I am having a completely identical experience to W9 Boy: “Taken for 1 to 2 years September 16, 2021. I've been on 1.25 Ramipril since a valve replacement last year. I take it at night. It gives me tinnitus, patchy skin, cough, and I feel tired a lot. I was taking beta blockers as well for a few weeks but stopped. Average BP has gone down from 135/90 to 122/78. But I don't know if it's worth it. Can't see a doctor as I'm in London and the wheels have completely come off our National Health Service - it's in chaos.” Why isn’t howling tinnitus listed as a side effect? I stopped taking it and it not only went away, but I felt hugely better generally. Got chatting to a doctor (in a pub, not possible to get an appointment), and he advised taking them again so tinnitus is back."

For High Blood Pressure "I used to take ramipril capsules made by Bristol for 3 months, never had a broken capsule. Since the chemist changed my capsules to ramipril capsules made by Brown & Burk 3 months ago, I have had 3 broken capsules so far. This happens when I pop it out of the bubble, and I end up with powder all over my hand. It happened with 2.5 mg and 5 mg as well."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "Seems that I am 'hypersensitive' to the extent that exposure to normal summer sunlight, even with high UV resistant clothing, causes skin pain sometimes so much that I have to stay in the shade. Poor sleep, very low blood pressure, and consequent dizziness, loss of balance, and poor concentration. This is the effect of only 5 mg daily; it is just not acceptable, and there are alternatives available."
