Altace (ramipril) for High Blood Pressure "I have only been on this medication for seven days. After the second day I was having severe abdominal cramping. Has anyone else had this reaction? It did a great job of lowering my blood pressure though."

For High Blood Pressure "After being diagnosed with very high blood pressure I've been taking Ramipril for 2 months now. The side effects I am experiencing are 1/ I get very tired in the evening at about 8pm. 2/ I am beginning to get a bit forgetful and confused from time to time. 3/ Sometimes I get this tingling sensation in my hands and wrists (it feels like a mild electric shock). But apart from that the drug is manageable and doesn't really interfere with my day to day life."

For High Blood Pressure "Poor lifestyle and extreme stress sent my BP soaring to 196/132. I was immediately prescribed Ramipril I took the medicine @ 4pm and by 10pm I took my BP reading it was 153/95. Still some work to do to bring it down but for day one not bad at all. I use a wireless cuff BP machine Qardio which tracks all the readings I make which help me guide the GP. It also tells me if I have an irregular heart beat. Good investment."

For High Blood Pressure "I am a 52 year old male. Ramipril was the first BP medication I was prescribed when my BP averaged 147/100. Within weeks I had developed blurred and double vision. My optician referred me to the Ophthalmologist. I had to contact my GP for the referral and he changed my medication to Losartan. I had no issues with my eye and when I returned to my optician 18 months later he said my condition had reversed and this was the first time he'd come across double vision as a side effect of Ramipril."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Altace 10mg for approximately 5 years with good success at controlling my high blood pressure. Recently I was switched to generic ramipril and the effects appear to be the same. Overall good control."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I had a mild heart attack in 2001 at the age of 62, and was put on bisoprolol aspirin and ramipril. I then had another 3 or 4 attacks in 2005 and had one stent fitted. Since then I have had no further trouble but I remained on the medication. I have asked several times why I am on Ramipril as I have never suffered from high blood pressure. The answer I got was that it was "good for the heart" somewhat vague advice. Can anyone suggest why patients who do not suffer from high blood pressure are on it?"

For High Blood Pressure "This drug caused me to suffer significant confusion, anxiety and also milder depression... which has led to me losing contact with a very dear friend/colleague and potentially losing my job. No warning of this on the information supplied with the meds by the manufacturer, Crescent Pharma. . Other manufacturers give clearer warnings..!!"

For High Blood Pressure "started taking this medication less than a month ago. It has lowered my blood pressure, but have been feeling sick. Hurt all over, nervous, trouble sleeping. Been to the doctors so many times I cant count. Everything comes back great. I take several medications and am researching them, looks like this one might be the culprit. Going to stop and see what happens."

For High Blood Pressure "I’ve been on ramipril for 1 month and it has been hell, this pill is not to be taken. I felt weak, headache, shortness of breath, unable to walk without support, I felt as though I was going to faint, so I just stop talking it. Please stay away from this dreadful drug"

For High Blood Pressure "I have been increased from 2.5mg to 5mg but because by blood pressure was 135/85 they were not happy with the bottom number 85 and because I am a type 2 diabetic they have now just double my dose to 10mg and for years stated I had white coat syndrome and would not medicate - surely this could have cause more damage. But so far so good I do suffer with night sweats and leg pains but don't know if this is linked."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I have had two heart attacks (one never knew I'd had). The second one did know about it and taking 10mg Ramipril as well as other drugs as preventative measure to further cardiac events. I never had high BP, but now it's too low according to some professionals, and normal to others 110/60. Downside: I have to be careful when standing too quickly, if I look up I can lose my balance, I sweat more, I have constant dry mouth, and need to hydrate more. I can't seem to get a good night's sleep am constantly waking and fidgeting, I have developed tinnitus, biggest down side through lack of sleep I can't wake up and feel drugged when I do. Upside: Most of these side effects are documented so I put up with them as the opposite is unthinkable."

For High Blood Pressure "I was really apprehensive about starting ramipril but it has been fine so far, my BP has come down immediately and I feel better. Within 20 minutes of taking the first pill, I unexpectedly felt a brief moment of a feeling of calm. I am fortunate to so far not have got the cough side effect. I get a very mild headache in the day sometimes which I can live with and I hope that will go away in time. I am only on a 1.25 mg dose at this point. I’ll check my bloods and BP in a couple of weeks. Overall a week in - I feel glad I am taking this medication because my BP is now in the normal range."

For High Blood Pressure "58 yr old male, good health other than BP...seems to run in one side of my family..tried everything from diet, exercise, alternative meds, supplements, meditation....All helped a little but not enough. 140/90 (morning) to 160/100 (evening) readings before 2.5mg Ramipril per day...within days readings dropped by about 15 points across the board. I was taking 5mg of lisinipril for a month but Doc changed med due to the many side effects and less effective to lower BP. I have very few side effects from Ramipril vs lisinipril... The cough, dry throat, chest phlegm thing is still present but more tolerable. An additional change has been the more diuretic effect of Ramipril on me which may be resulting in the lower readings overall.."

For High Blood Pressure "Interestingly, my high blood pressure was discovered during my regular blood donations. The intake staff recommended that I consult my doctor. My doctor prescribed 2,5 mg ramiprilum (brand name: Tritace) once daily. I have been taking it religiously for 5 years now. Blood pressure is good. No side effects. The donation center now says that my blood can only be used for adults, not children."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on 1.25mg but this made no difference to my BP. Now on 2.5mg and BP is down to 145/96 which is better than 169/130. I do feel better but suspect that BP could do with coming down a little further. I am only 42, do not drink or smoke and am not overweight."

For High Blood Pressure "Am taking daily 2.5mg Ramipril capsules, Warfarin (5.5 mg) and Simvastatin (10mg). During this period of about 1 year, I have suffered increasingly from gastric pains located at the base of the sternum. The pain comes on at between 3 and 4 am, despite taking Lansoprazole which confers protection for only about 3 hrs. I suspected the Ramipril as the cause of the acid flush in the early hrs. Have tried stopping the Ramipril. Result: gastric pains gone but blood pressure uncomfortably high! Not even taking Lansoprazole."

For High Blood Pressure "I was prescribed Ramipril 2.50mg to bring my BP down which was spiking between 145/90 to 155/85. I found the usual headaches, dizziness and tiredness during the first few weeks. Those symptoms never really went away. I think I just was able to manage them better as time went on. My BP did drop to around 120/80 though. But have recently found the dizziness started to affect me a bit more, especially walking in busy shops. I've gone to the GP to ask for a lower dosage of 1.25mg. I've only been on it for 3 days. My BP has gone up slightly around 125/80. But I shall monitor that over the next few weeks. I've also noticed the 1.25mg has given me a slightly more drier throat. Not sure if it is do with the coating of the capsule as the medicine should be the same as before. If BP goes up anymore and dizziness is the same I shall go back to the usual 2.50mg dosage, I will have just got to live with it."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on ramapril for over 2 years. I ran out almost two weeks ago ! Since then I have had a much better days and content with my life. Before this I was incredibly lethargic, depressed not interested in anything. I don't think it's coincidence! I will talk to my GP and find out what she thinks. All I can say is the change is fantastic and dramatic."

For High Blood Pressure "Took 2.5 Ramipril for high blood pressure. My side effects, itching. Looked up ingredients saw there was yellow ochre in them, changed to 5 mg. Which has red ochre in them, no problem . As I am allergic to spring flowering bulbs I’m thinking the yellow ochre has something to do with this making me itch. Could be wrong but not itching with the 5 mg"

Now he keeps passing out causing other issues such as splitting his head open knocking himself out he now suffers from postural hypertension, but still insist he has to take ramipril, there must be other medication he can take."

For High Blood Pressure "My Lipidologist prescribed Ramipril 10mg 2x/day beginning on 4.15.21 to begin treating my elevated BP 140's - 160+. He warned of potential coughing side effect, as this med belongs to the ACE category of artery "relaxers". My coughing and throat tightening type spasms like a hot flash began immediately and kept me waking up at night. He said it was the best for preventing a stroke, so I tried it over 40 days, with minimal lower results, although I did see a few 120's which was encouraging. I could no longer continue this med to due excessive side effects, which are starting to diminish now that I have stopped Ramipril. My MD switched me to Telmisartan(Micardis), which is in the ARB category of artery meds and typically does not have the coughing side effect. He has added a water pill, so I am beginning to get more consistent lower readings and no apparent side effects "YET"?"

For High Blood Pressure "Have just started ramipri 2.5mg. It is the second day and felt extremely tired last night otherwise ok. My bp had been steadily climbing up to 155/99. I had been on amlodipine last year for about 6 weeks which lowered my bp to a normal 128/68ho wever my left leg started to break out in large itchy rash and only thing different was taking amlodipine - so stopped. Now I am on steroid cream for rash but still bits there after 6months. When reading side effects I see it is a rare side effect of the amlodipine. So will see how I cope with ramipri when I have been on it a while."

For High Blood Pressure "38age. BMI of 23. High BP 153/90 average based on a day 24 hour reading. Started Ramitril 5mg. After 5 weeks no side effects. Will get tested if my kidneys take it well in a week via blood test, says my GP. Last reading says 103/77. but was higher average 120/80 (home measure sitting). I also take hibiscustea and arugola which are very helpful. I believe this helped as well to bring my BP down."
