For Sedation "I don't know if I class myself as an insomniac but I usually wake up a load of times in the night which disturbs my sleep and makes me tired in the day so I decided to try Phenergan. This medication should really be taken just before you go to bed, I wouldn't recommend taking it while you're watching TV or anything because in my experience, you have to be trying to fall asleep for this to work. Even then, it's a horrible drug. 25mg is too little and I still wake up in the night a lot, 50mg is way too much and I'm pretty sure my throat closed up for a second in the middle of the night because I woke up gagging and I don't suffer from sleep apnoea so that was weird. Either way, any dosage of this stuff causes terrible daytime drowsiness the next day, I'm not sure if that's down to the half life of the medication or whether it is purely because it gives you really poor quality sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I tried this medicine a day after I vomited three times and had that nausea feeling and that next day I vomited once in the morning but when I went to the medical centre they gave me the prescription for phenergan. I fell asleep instantly for two hours and a half and woke up refreshed and my stomach did not hurt for the rest of the day and I didn't vomit ever since. It's the best medicine for nausea and vomiting."

For Sedation "Phenergan is the best sedation I have seen... I find over 12.5 mg knocks me for " six ". Most of these medications are best when used sparingly , when needed. Taking sedation every night tells me a powerful anti psychotic may be a more suitable option."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Has anyone experienced sadness after starting to take this drug. I am on 25mg for a few days and feel that it has helped with the nausea a little bit with the anxiety but it has made me sleep all day and feel sad. I normally have trouble getting onto strong meds such as anti depressants but I don't know if this is a case of this or something else. I am scared of becoming depressed."

For Light Sedation "This is my magic pill. I suffer from vertigo, chronic spinal pain, sleeplessness, mild depression because of the spinal pain, and usually I get sick to my stomach with even one aspirin. I take 1/2 of one pill of this every night before bed and sleep like a baby and awake feeling rested, happy, and nausea-free. I hope the vertigo is gone too but haven't taken this long enough to know about that. I take small doses of everything because I feel the effects of any medicine very strongly. WHY hasn't a doctor offered this to me before?"

For Sedation "I have restarted taking 3 months ago, after coming off amitriptyline cold turkey. These are more suited as you can take most cold and flu medication without issues, which was always a issue. The tablets take effect quickly (1.5 hours) first started on 50mg per night now down to 30mg due to tablets now making me more sleepy during the day time than before. I would recommend these to any anxiety or insomnia suffer as they do not have neuro side effects like other sleepers."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed phenergan after having my wisdom teeth removed. When I got home, I immediately fell asleep (still under the influence of the anesthesia). Upon waking and attempting to stand, I began to heave and vomit profusely, but after laying back down and taking phenergan, my symptoms were gone nearly instantly. Would definitely recommend; phenergan was an important part of my recovery!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Had an outpatient procedure and put into a “twilight sedation”, with additional pain meds through the IV although I can’t recall what that was. The pain meds caused me terrible nausea, and dizziness. I was given a dose of Zofran and a motion sickness patch before surgery to try and prevent this as I get nauseous from pain meds so easily...that didn’t work. I was given 12.5 mg of phenergran and 15 minutes later symptoms had improved greatly. I was able to get dressed and start on my way home, although the nausea was still present somewhat due to the motion of the car ride home. Hit the bed and slept like a rock for four hours, felt sleepy the rest of the evening. Blood pressure did go up some as well, 132/88. Took my usual Beta blocker at bedtime that helped my bp come down."

For Light Sedation "My sleep is terrible. Phenergan helped but it made me anxious and shivery if I didn't take it and jump into bed straight away to settle. I'd sleep well but wake the next day feeling like I'd been hit by a truck and low in mood. It does help with sleep but it's not for me. Back to insomnia for me."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given phenergan in the hospital when zofran wasn’t doing enough for my nausea due to food poisoning. They put a large amount into my IV and a few minutes later I realized I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or awake. I keep staring at my husband wondering if he was really there or not (he was) . It was the most frightening medical experience I have ever had. I just kept my mouth shut and didn’t tell anyone what what happening to me because I didn’t want to be given any more medicine. It did get rid of my nausea though, but not even close to being worth it...so terribly frightening."

For Opiate Adjunct "I am approximately 65 years old. Post surgery I was prescribed Oxycodone and Phenergan, and after 18 hours speech became slurred, unable to form words or express myself accurately. Turns out my youngest daughter had a similar reaction to the same drug during appendicitis crisis. "

For Sedation "I have been taking these for almost 5 years what started as 1 x 10mg then turned into a huge dose. I have now dropped down to 3 x 10mg a night and have decided it’s time to go completely cold off them. I started taking these to sleep easier, as due to anxiety it was hard to fall asleep. I have made the decision to come off them as I was getting intense nightmares which made me afraid to fall asleep, my body was bruising extremely easily and my platelets were beginning to drop. Just be careful if you have an addictive personality"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I do not know what I would do without promethazine! It helps a lot with my nausea which is very severe every day… It does not take it all away, I know… But it does help me enough I have been using this medicine for 11 years via IV centreline"

For Sedation "After experiencing a severe onset of anxiety, I developed insomnia and couldn't sleep for over three weeks, remaining awake throughout the night. Additionally, I woke up with nausea and vomited for some days. I was prescribed 25mg to take before bed to help with sleep and nausea. The first time I took it, I slept for 12 hours! I felt drowsy the next morning but also refreshed and didn't wake up with nausea. The second time I took it, I slept for 8 hours and was still a little drowsy. Taking 25mg before bed definitely helps sedate me and improves my sleep throughout the night."

Slept for 3 hours, then ate dry bagel, chicken soup without any problems. Next day, eating normally but feel tired and a little "under the weather"."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had gall bladder surgery and got narcotics for pain afterwards. No matter what pain killer I got, they made me vomit even at half the dose. Ondansetron (Zofran) helped some but not fully. Once I got my first dose of Phenergan my nausea was completely gone. It made me very sleepy but I was very happy about. This was the best anti-nausea medication that I ever had!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have had stomach problems since I was a child, and so far no doctor has been able to figure out what the problem is. The only relief I have gotten is from Phenergan (promathezine). I call it my "miracle drug". Even when already vomiting, and nauseated, if I take 25mg, in only about 15-20 minutes I am relaxed and vomiting/nausea is gone. It does knock you out for a good bit though, but if you have been up sick for awhile, this will be a much needed rest. Promethazine, you are my hero and I love you. "

For Motion Sickness "My husband and I have used dramamine in the past for motion sickness while on our fishing boat. 50 mg tablet will put us to sleep within 3 hrs after taking the pill. One time I could not drive home I was falling asleep at the wheel. I went home and could not keep my eyes open. This time during our cruise we saw a pharmacist on an island stop and she gave us Phenergan and told us to take 1 15 mins. before going on a fishing charter. The pills worked wonderfully! We were out in really rough waters on a 30 ft. fishing boat for 4 hrs. Did not even get queazy at all! We were not even tired upon our return either. As a matter of fact my husband said the pill made him hungry and he ate more. Phenergan is wonderful! Throw away the dramamine!"

For Sedation "I was prescribed this for my 6 yr old daughter to help her sleep. I've only been using it a couple of nights but it doesn't seem to be working. I am giving her the 3x5ml dose and giving her it at 6pm and up to now she is still not going to sleep before 11pm. Am I not giving her enough or not giving it enough time to work? Advice greatly appreciated! Thanks"

For Sedation "I have really bad insomnia. I can not get to sleep at all. I take 50 mg of phenergan. And it takes a while to work like 4 hours then I fall asleep. I have tried other meds and they work for a short time but it is slow to work so that I lay in bed for at least 4 hours till I fall asleep, but hey least it works."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have been using Phenergan to treat nausea for years. I have frequent and severe nausea associated with abdominal pain. It has been over three years and I am yet to get a diagnosis. I am grateful for this medicine. It is the only thing that stops the nausea. I would be crazy without this medicine! I was given Phenergan in the ER after I had a bad reaction to Zofran. It worked so well I asked the Doctor to send me home with a prescription for it. At my last ER visit they told me they were out of Phenergan and that it was in short supply. I was given Bentyl instead. That also gave me a bad reaction. I do without nausea medicine in the hospital if they do not have Phenergan."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Do not use this medication for anyone over 60. My mother was given this in the hospital for mild nauseous feeling. I think they thought she would be sedated by it. She is elderly. This drug put her into a terrible state of hallucinations delirium and all around restlessness for about 8 hours. It’s awful. She would have been better off with tums. Be aware of all the side affects."
