For Nausea/Vomiting "I was first given Compazine orally for anxiety and nausea. It did not appear to have any side effects. A year later, I was hospitalized following surgery and was extremely nauseous, so after giving me Zofran to no avail, they gave me Compazine IV. It burned going into my arm. I became very agitated and restless, my body could not stop shaking, and I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. Luckily, they gave me Benadryl, and that helped calm me down a bit, but it took a couple of days to feel myself again. Will never take IV again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had been suffering from severe nausea and vomiting on and off, including migraine, fever, and flank pain. It was my second time in the ER, so they gave me Compazine and I'd never had it, it relieved my nausea and migraine, but I started feeling so restless. I was freaking out, like I wanted to rip out my IV and leave and run away. Then they told me it's a side effect, and I already suffered from severe anxiety, it made it 1000x worse. I had the worst time trying to sleep, then had the weirdest dreams of my life. They gave me morphine shortly after, which calmed me a little and took the rest of my pain away, but I was hoping it'd honestly put me out. 24 hours later, and I still feel that restlessness in my body, but it's so much better than it was."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this awful medication in a migraine cocktail. Within minutes, I was so anxious that I yanked my IV out and ran out of the hospital room. For hours, I couldn't stop moving my legs. It's been 3 days, and I'm still so anxious. I made the pharmacy write in notes that I was allergic to Compazine - prochlorperazine, so this never happens again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this through an IV in the ER. I had terrible nausea, and Zofran didn't touch it. Even though Compazine did take my nausea away, it left me incredibly groggy yet restless. I spent the entire rest of the day in a haze. I've never abused drugs, but I would imagine this is how you would feel when coming off of some sort of high, yet it lasts all day long. I kept feeling angry and anxious as well. I would much rather have nausea and will never take this medicine again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I feel for all of you very much. All of those bad experiences, I also had. Plus, doctors and nurses don't seem to care, at least most don't. About 13 years ago, I went to the ER for nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I didn't feel well when I went in. As soon as they put Compazine in my IV, I felt terrible panic, restlessness, anxiety. I could not sit, lay down, or stay in one place for more than 5 minutes. I pulled my IV out and started running to my friend. I thought maybe I had a stroke. I didn't know. My friend tried to talk to the doctors. I was outside, I couldn't do anything to feel any better. I waited to die. I was afraid I would hurt someone. I was one of the top weightlifters in the world. I started banging my head as hard as I could on the concrete wall. Then I went back in the hospital bleeding. I thought then the doctors would do something to help me. They called the police, my friend got me home. I was worse. I took some Xanax. I still have anxiety from that experience."

"I went in to the ER with a headache and numbness in my face, arms, and legs. I was immediately given Benadryl and Compazine. I started to feel very restless. I couldn't stop moving. My heart rate increased, and I felt like I was checking out of reality. All I could feel was sheer panic. I wanted to run around, scream, all I could do was beg everyone to help me. Because of this, I'm afraid to take medicine, and I'm afraid to go back to the ER. I was amazed to see others had similar reactions when I was made to feel crazy during my visit to the ER. I think the people administering these medications should be aware of the side effects and have something readily available to stop the effects or be able to sedate a patient and keep them to prevent them from feeling those effects. I was not in my right mind to choose to go home and feel that I scared my family when I did choose to go home because of how irrational I was feeling/acting."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this Compazine last night for a migraine. I knew I shouldn’t have taken it because I’ve had a bad experience with Reglan. The doctor assured me that it was far less likely to happen, and I even asked the nurse to push it in slowly. It took a few minutes to kick in, but once it did, I knew the feeling all too well. Extreme anxiety and just an uncontrollable feeling of panic. You want to move around because you can’t think, and you want to escape, but then you’re afraid to move. They offered to give me Benadryl, but I was just afraid at that point. It eventually mellowed out slightly, and they discharged me. I went home and had an issue sleeping because I couldn’t sit still or stay asleep long. Next day, it’s been a little over 12 hours, and I still feel restless and so tired. I’ve tried to sleep, but I feel like I have to keep moving. I wasn’t even able to go to work. I would have preferred having my migraine. ONLY GET Toradol AND Zofran OR Benadryl for your migraines."

For Anxiety "Please do not take this medication. I went to the ER for a week-long migraine. They gave me this along with something else. I can’t take Benadryl, so I refused that. Minutes after it was put in my IV, my heart was in the 140s for hours (I already suffer from anxiety and panic attacks and was already nervous). Mind you, I’m on metoprolol as well, which lowers your heart rate, and even that didn’t bring it down. I was restless to the point of insanity, scared, anxious, and alone, and had a panic attack. I had to call the nurse who sat with me while I was having a full-blown panic attack. He was great, thankfully. After discharge, the panic, fear, and restlessness lasted hours. I couldn’t be alone because I was so scared. I am also sensitive to medication and refuse a lot of stuff due to a bad prior experience with something. This is why I do not trust anything anymore. This drug was horrible, and I recommend you DO NOT take this drug ever."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for a severe atypical migraine. They gave me Compazine via my IV along with Benadryl to prevent a side effect. After receiving it, I have never been so restless in my life. I couldn’t stop moving and squirming. My husband thought I was going mad. It did help when they gave me additional Benadryl, but I still couldn’t sit still or sleep. I felt like ripping my IV out. It was like I was a fish out of water flipping around. I had to get an MRI, and I wasn’t able to sit still for that, so they did give me Ativan, which eventually helped some more by knocking me out, but I still felt uneasy before it put me to sleep and when I woke up as well. It’s now been two days, almost three, and I’m still feeling like I can’t relax or sit still, which is making it hard to sit at work. I will never take this again and am having it added to my chart as an adverse/allergic reaction."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this for nausea that could not be helped with Zofran. I take it on an as-needed basis or when the Zofran won't work. I have a lot of stomach issues, and I can say this stuff definitely helps. It does make me a little sleepy, but I'll take that any day over feeling sick and throwing up. The downside is the restless side effect. I feel like I have to keep moving unless I somehow manage to fall asleep. Then I am knocked out. Sometimes I take Valium or Benadryl to combat the feeling, but that leaves me groggy and unable to function."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Refuse this medication. Went in with the worst headache of my life, confusion, and a heavy, wave-like sensation in my body. Was given Compazine and Benadryl through IV, was told I’d have anxiety. I have generalized anxiety disorder and pharmacophobia, so that in itself was irresponsible, I think. Instant panic attack, feeling of being on the edge of blacking out, constant, horrible anxiety, the wave-like sensation, mood changes, and akathisia for the past month since being treated with this medication once."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for heart palpitations and severe abdominal pain after taking too many sinus medications. They wanted to give me Compazine with Toradol and Benadryl, but I had already taken Benadryl that evening, so they had to ask the doctor first. They pushed the other two instead before asking. It caused akathisia within a moment, so they left quicker. No call button in the room, and with nothing but empty rooms and hallways around, there was no way for me to get in contact with them. In my attempt to get up and check the hallway, I passed out on the floor, and I have no clue how long I was like that, but still nobody was there when I woke up, and I went back to the bed. They came back eventually, and I had already forgotten about the past (however long) and was barely in it anymore, still in pain. Finally deciding to push the Benadryl didn't stop it, but I couldn't stay awake anymore, and they discharged me 10 minutes later. They'll accuse you of seeking for declining it, though."

For Psychosis "I was given Compazine with Toradol in the ER for migraine. Within minutes, I was very fidgety, I couldn’t sit still. I started to feel sheer panic, it was an awful experience. They told me it was common. I got home, felt like I was crawling out of my skin, couldn’t go to sleep, couldn’t sit still, and was convulsing. My heart rate went sky high and my blood pressure, and I generally have low blood pressure. I started crying and couldn’t hardly use my hands and arms, I could barely even walk across the house. My husband ended up taking me back to the ER, where they gave me a 2 mg shot of Ativan. It should’ve knocked me out since I barely take stuff like that. It just took the edge off enough to come home and go to sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I took a Compazine equal called Inapsine. They are practically the same medication. And I had the same reaction everyone else did on this site as well. I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm and was pulling my hair out. Bugs felt like they were crawling in my skin. I felt crazy. Because of the medicine, I developed akathisia and am still recovering almost a month later. I do understand that meds work differently for everyone, but there’s a reason everyone had the same experience on this. Worst med I’ve ever taken. Never take any antipsychotic-antiemetic such as Compazine, Inapsine, and Regalin because they all have the same side effects. They are usually given in “migraine cocktails” in emergency rooms. Always check what they’re giving you!!! And why they’re giving antipsychotic meds for migraines, I have no idea."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have been in the ER several times with migraines. They give me what is commonly known as the 'migraine cocktail', it is a combo of Benadryl and Compazine given through an IV. The Compazine makes my skin feel like it is crawling, it makes me so fidgety, and I cannot sit still. Back in January, I was extremely sick with COVID. I had to go to the ER because I wasn't keeping anything in me, not even fluids. They gave me Compazine for nausea and vomiting, and the nurse never told me she was giving it to me, or else I would have said no way! As soon as I started feeling that way, I asked what was given to me, and I told her I just wanted to go home and made my fiancé take me home. I couldn't stand being in that ER room anymore. Compazine, to me, is horrible."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Compazine, as listed by a lot of people, is an awful drug. I went into the ER with a headache and nausea and was given Benadryl and Compazine via IV in order to quell it. Immediately after the IV went in, I started to feel very anxious and have dark thoughts. All I wanted to do was jump out of the hospital bed and run out. Once I was discharged from the hospital, the side effects did not go away. I felt like I just wanted to be knocked out to help stop this feeling. I cannot even believe I was able to get sleep that night, but thankfully I did. Even though I got sleep, however, it is the next day, and I still feel restless and jittery. It is a lot better now, but I do not know how much longer it will last. DO NOT TAKE COMPAZINE!!!!"

For Anxiety "Got it for the first time ever, went in for a headache that was persistent. Have had panic and anxiety attacks before, so I knew what was happening. 15 minutes in, I was going crazy. Akathisia was what took the longest to go away. I read Compazine takes 2-4 days to get out of the body if taken through IV. So don’t worry, y’all, you will get better, but give it the minimum days. Benadryl does help as it’s a counter for it. Mother is allergic to it as well as Reglan. They say it’s not hereditary, but I believe it is. Careful with these headache drugs! Even though the headache did go away! 24 hours have passed since taking it, and I'm slowly coming off the side effects."

For Psychosis "This drug should be taken off the market. Went to the ER with a tension headache and was given the migraine cocktail of Benadryl and Compazine. The nurse said it will make me feel “funny” for a few minutes, but it will go away. Within minutes, I was slurring words, could not focus, and my legs were uncontrollably shaking. I screamed for a nurse, she said it was normal. I thought I was going to die. A dose of Ativan was given, but two days later, I am still dealing with effects such as anxiety and restlessness. Never again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for a severe migraine with nausea and stomach pain. I was given an IV cocktail of Toradol, Benadryl, and Compazine. Within 3 minutes of injection, the room went completely black, I thought I was going to faint, a wave of heat overcame my entire body, and my heart rate skyrocketed. I thought I was dying. I had an extreme urge to leave the hospital, I felt that I was not safe. I hit the call button over and over, begging for someone to help me. I was extremely restless, my jaw was chattering, I couldn’t stop moving my legs, I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. The nurses had to perform an EKG on my heart as I started having abnormal heart rhythms. After 20 - 30 minutes, I was able to calm myself down, however, I kept jerking awake with every sound, movement, or voice. I was admitted for observation overnight and hooked up to a heart monitor until I was released. Nurses said these are common side effects after the fact. I will never take Compazine again!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Compazine through the IV for nausea and vomiting while admitted. It was an absolute nightmare that still makes me feel pure fear when I think about it. I thought I was going to die. At first, my legs just felt restless, which I thought I was just having some anxiety, but then it really hit. I couldn't get my body to cool down, I started vomiting, then lost control of my bowels in front of the nurses. This lasted over six hours until they finally gave me something that knocked me out until it was over. I thought I was going to die. It scared both my partner, who was there, and myself to the point that I am now scared to take any more medications, fearing a similar reaction. They should really warn people about this drug."
