Phenazopyridine for Interstitial Cystitis "I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) in 1995. It's a constant irritation of the bladder lining that makes you feel like you have a full bladder, which makes you run to the bathroom every 5 minutes. I end up just urinating a half teaspoon! It's so aggravating, and it goes on all day and night. I got relief from the prescription Pyridium, but doctors don't like to prescribe that much anymore. After years of constant suffering, I was so excited to find Azo over the counter at the pharmacy near my house. I was skeptical but desperate to find relief. I didn't expect it to work, but I took it anyway. Much to my delight, it worked GREAT! I slept through the night for the first time in a very long time! I was worried they would stop selling it for some reason, so I bought a couple of boxes. I don't need to take it every day. I just use it when I have a flare-up of IC. One trigger food for me is onion!! It sets my IC off, thank God it's affordable and available!"

For Interstitial Cystitis "Azo is the only thing that helps IC flares, or I get a UTI. Good news is it really does take the pain away after a little while. But for me, it's not without consequences. Those consequences or side effects include stomach ache and lots of vomiting if I don't stuff myself with food before taking it. And I don't mean a normal meal, I have to actually stuff my stomach with food. Sometimes I'll think I'm full enough, take the Azo, and half an hour later realize I was wrong. So, make sure you eat a lot of food before you take this medication."

For Interstitial Cystitis "I wish I had known about this medicine sooner! I have had IC all my adult life, and as I approach 60, I’ve noticed that it has ramped up in the last year. I do not understand why health articles on IC and UTIs do not recommend this product! It has helped so much and works quickly. I too will always have this on hand. The regular AZO, where you can basically take cranberry juice through a pill, has now become a part of my daily regimen."

Phenazopyridine for Interstitial Cystitis "I have gotten pretty good at avoiding trigger foods and drinks, but I still experience IC flare-ups every couple of months. When I do get flare-ups, they are pretty horrendous. AZO does not completely take the discomfort and pain away for a severe flare-up, but I can function enough to not have to put my daily life on hold. It helps enough for me to be able to sleep and drive in the car for much longer than a short 20 minutes. When I first got diagnosed, I was experiencing much milder flare-ups for extended periods of time-during those mild to moderate flare-ups, AZO just about completely masked my symptoms. Orange urine is a very small price to pay for the amount of times these pills have saved me!"

For Dysuria "Took the medicine last night for the first time. Didn't notice any changes, except that it made me sleepy. This morning I awoke to find that I had a major headache, terrible stomach cramps, all-over body ache, and confusion. I would not recommend this product, as it also gave me really weird dreams."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "Review of Azo Urinary Relief (Phenazopyridine): I took Azo Urinary Relief, extra strength, as directed for two days. The drug worked as intended. However, the evening I finished the last dose, I began experiencing significant gastrointestinal symptoms—gas pains, bloating, mild nausea, and loss of appetite. These symptoms lasted for about three full days, with things starting to resolve on the third day. The discomfort was enough to make me think something worse was going on. While stomach upset is listed as a possible side effect, I think it’s important to know that these effects can be moderate to severe and may begin after completing the medication, not necessarily during use. The product information and common reviews don’t seem to fully reflect this, and I believe users would benefit from clearer warnings based on experiences like mine."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "LOVE Pyridium! Nothing else works as well. It is a miracle drug. My kidney was in spasms, intense pain from the stones and infection. This product worked like a wonder drug on the pain while the antibiotic did its work."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "Azo is normally a godsend for when you have a UTI and you're waiting for antibiotics to kick in. However, it can be dangerous to take more than 2 days in a row. I've had a UTI that for some reason won't go away, and I've been taking Azo for a number of days. My red blood cell count is super low, my O2 sats are low, my glucose levels are sky high, and apparently, frequent use may cause tumors in the intestines and may increase the risk of bladder cancer. Talk to your doctor about long-term side effects if you need to continue this medication for a longer period of time than normal."

For Interstitial Cystitis "So far, I took this medication about 2 times back in June and recently in the past week. My first dose was fine and helped me out. But my second dose was bad: flu-like symptoms, anxiety, not feeling myself, but it did help with urine hesitancy. In October, I am seeing a urologist and will be asking for other options."

For Interstitial Cystitis "I keep AZO on hand for IC flares that started years ago. I always eat a bite before taking and drink lots of bottled water as always. Caffeine, decaf coffee/tea, pineapple, apples, MSG, artificial sweeteners, chocolate, soy, and tap water are my triggers. Azo saves me when I cheat or unknowingly eat someone else's cooking."

For Dysuria "I loooooove this!!! It makes my bladder feel completely numb!!! I was in so much pain I felt like I needed to pee every second. I had a UTI from using a feminine wash... which is so bad!!! My bladder hurts when I stand, lay, sit, or move around. I felt like I was DYING! Until I took the pill from over the counter which cost me $7 and some cents!! Pretty cheap, you get 12 pills and you take 2-3 a day. It turned my pee neon orange and it smelled bad... yuck! Overall, it works super good, 100% pain reliever!!! But the only con is that it makes my inner vagina, where the discharge is located, super itchy... I recommend washing your vaginal area and the inside every 3-4 hours with just water!"

For Dysuria "This didn't make a difference in my symptoms at all. None of my discomfort was relieved. My urine did turn very orange, though! I also didn't have any negative reactions to this drug. It was like it didn't really affect me at all. It also cost me nearly $40, which is a lot for something that didn't work."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "I have been taking the maximum strength 2-3 times a day for approximately 6 months now and have never had any side effects. It has been so wonderful not feeling the pain in my bladder from the tube that sits in there. (I have a permanent suprapubic catheter.)"

For Dysuria "I used this when I was passing a kidney stone because it was originally diagnosed as a UTI. It did help a great deal in the beginning. Not so much at the end when the stone was stuck at the bottom of the ureter, but then again, why would it? It’s not for that. Vicodin is for that. I ended up getting surgery to remove the stone after an agonizing 5 weeks of trying to pass it. They put in a urethral stent for 2 weeks, and this product saved me. With it, I could pee once every 30 minutes or so. Without it, I felt the need nearly constantly. Sometimes I’d even pee, stand up, and feel the need to pee again before I could even walk out of the stall. So I mean it that it saved me. I was able to work."

Phenazopyridine for Interstitial Cystitis "Like others have said, this product is a godsend and I truly can’t live without it. I've dealt with UTIs for nearly all of my adult life. The only downside is it takes nearly 5 hours to kick in for me. I just resign to sitting on the toilet until the pain eventually dissipates. I drink loads of water, hot and cold. I've tried an empty stomach and full - there is no variance. I’d love some advice on how to make it kick in faster. I can’t really suss out the reason."

For Dysuria "Was feeling awful during class, ran to the pharmacy on my free hour and bought some Azo, the urinary pain relief. Took it in the parking lot and drank some water. Right away, it started working, and my discomfort was gone. The only side effect was that my pee was a much darker color than normal, but once the medicine was out of my body, it went back to normal. I strongly recommend this to anyone who has frequent UTIs or to even have at home for an emergency."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "This product, in just minutes (less than an hour), nulled the intense, acute pain and allowed me to relax. The pain was a 9 on a 10 scale. The UTI was due to severe dehydration leading to acute renal failure, as I discovered 2 days later. Yes, the urine takes the color of the pills, but none of my underwear retained the temporary stains of the product. I can't imagine any quicker help, especially going to the ER over this. You usually wait for hours, as I did in the ER. But at least I had taken this medicine, so I wasn't in misery. I'd highly recommend it without any reservations whatsoever."

For Dysuria "If you're experiencing pain during urination caused by a UTI, I recommend Uricalm Max! Works almost instantly. Just make sure to wear panty liners while using this medication. It will turn your urine bright orange and will stain anything it comes into contact with."

For Dysuria "My doctor prescribed this to me for the burning pain and told me I would love it. WRONG!! Not only did it not relieve the pain, I think it made it worse!! Then I bought some Azo Urinary Pain Relief pills, and they did the very same thing. It made it feel like razors were coming out of me. So I suffered with the burning pain the whole time and was miserable. This medicine is useless to me and a waste of my money."

For Interstitial Cystitis "I recently got diagnosed with IC at age 19. They told me I had UTIs at first, and I was taking AZO like candy. After they found out it was IC, I still had to take AZO maximum strength when I have flare-ups. I always keep some in my purse, at home, and at work. Just got a bladder installation done, and I’m in unbearable pain. Just found out you can take AZO with DMSO (medication they used in my installation), so once again AZO saved the day. Yes, it stains my underwear orange, but you can just put a mini pad down. I'm willing to pay around $8 for a box. I spend about $8 to $20 a month on AZO. Miracle drug! I could not live without this."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "I have been taking this product for a day, and I feel nauseous all the time. I threw up twice because of it. I would not recommend it. I wasn’t feeling like this before I started taking Azo, and I know I threw up because of it because my vomit was orange, just like my pee."

For Dysuria "My husband went to the ER a few days ago due to painful urination and bleeding. No sign of infection yet nor of stones, but traces of blood in the urine. They gave him Uristat to help with the pain. He says it is helping some with the pain, but the side effects are not good. He is having awful nausea and headaches and can barely stay awake after taking it. Been going to bed at 7 pm. Just very miserable. Thankfully, it was only to be taken for three days. Hoping his symptoms ease tomorrow. I don't think he will jump at the chance to take this drug again."

For Dysuria "Well, let me tell you the bad news. Everything tastes different. I ate a piece of cake and quickly spit it out. I'm itchy :/ and everything is orange.....everything. But I had severe kidney pain, and it vanished overnight. I took my medicine immediately after eating and did not notice any nausea. There's a slight itching in that 'area,' but that's common with a UTI. Hope this helps!"
