"I had a positive test for the Helicobacter and got told to take 2 loads of antibiotics (metronidazole and clarithromycin) along with omeprazole. I have felt so ill with all of this meds, but I carried on to finish the course to eliminate the bacteria. I finished the antibiotics on Tuesday, the 18th of August, but got told to carry on with my omeprazole twice daily. This tablet made me feel so ill with chills, dizziness, lack of appetite, brain fog, confusion, heart palpitations, tingling in my arms and legs, adrenaline at night, so I used to be woken up with my heart racing for no reason, insomnia, very emotional, low mood, my skin completions has gone yellow/pale, and a knot in my throat. I stopped taking this because of the side effects, and I hope by reading all the comments on here that the symptoms will go away and hopefully will get better soon."

Omeprazole "I took Prilosec for a year and a half. I noticed that my whole body ached. My bones hurt, if I bumped up against a door, my arm was so sensitive. I felt like I was 90 years old. My joints ached, and my face lost any glow. My skin was dull, flat, and pale. Once I got off this, all those symptoms went away. I have bad reflux, to where I couldn't swallow or yawn. I now take apple cider vinegar each morning, and I'm fine. I take a couple teaspoons with a splash of water in a small cup when I get up, and it works! Get off Prilosec, it will age you prematurely!"

Omeprazole "Yes, Prilosec stopped my heartburn most of the time. I have been hospitalized after I stopped. I now have arthritis so badly in both my hips, I have to have them both replaced. I'm only 44 years old. I've been taking the meds since I was 17. If I had been diagnosed or even tested for H. pylori, this could have been cured years ago, and I wouldn't have to have my hips replaced. There is no arthritis that runs on either side of my family."

"I'm about halfway through H. Pylori treatment on this medication, have noticed trouble sleeping, fatigue, and dizziness. Also, be very careful if you take benzodiazepines with this medication; it can greatly increase the side effects of sedatives like that."

"My dose is 40 mg twice a day for 10 days for H. pylori along with Pylera. Ok for the first 5 days, then lightheadedness and just got worse from there on with brain fog and anxiety. Changed to pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day at day 8 of Pylera. It is now the 5th day since I stopped the pantoprazole and Pylera. I have had an extreme exacerbation of my anxiety. Triggered by little things, even just the telephone ringing or a text message pinging, my heart beating very hard. No appetite. I get up from the chair and walk around and have to sit down to rest until my heart stops pounding, then can't get up to answer the phone because my heart is pounding again and tingling arms and legs. I was sure it was all the meds I took as I have no anxious feelings, just panicky symptoms. Doctor said I need Lexapro. This is not the same as my anxiety in the past, and I am already feeling better, so I think all the meds are wearing off at last. I thought all the negative reviews were fake until now. Not worth the side effects."

"Had a positive H. pylori test. Symptoms were heartburn and indigestion. Given triple therapy, which included omeprazole 20 mg twice a day. Felt tummy felt better after three days of antibiotics, but then the side effects kicked in. Anxiety really bad, couldn't concentrate or work or look after kids: nausea, blurred vision, loss of appetite, sleep. The list goes on. I finished my one-week antibiotics and went on to take a further 8 days just to be sure I was OK. It sorted my heartburn, yes, and helped with acid, but I felt like I was going insane. Stopped taking them today, and hopefully my side effects were off. I'm just tired of it all now."

"Given omeprazole 20 mg (mostly 2 x day) when I had some painful burning sensation in the upper part of my stomach. I was with that for about 2 months while they found the root cause of my problem (I was having tests and scans and all were normal). The problem was that it all took so long (COVID-related delays). But then, I found out I had H. pylori. So I got the antibiotics treatment plus PPI (30 mg twice a day) for a week. The doctor did not guide me on whether I should or should not continue with omeprazole (and nothing at all on the side effects). So I stopped it after the H. pylori treatment, and then I had a horrible rebound of the acidity (and terrible back pain, constipation, dizziness that took me to A&E, lack of sleep, nervousness, fatigue, shortness of breath). I had these effects on and off also while taking omeprazole. So back to omeprazole. In total, I had omeprazole for 9 weeks. Now, day 7 after stopping it and feeling better but now dealing with rebound symptoms. CAUTION SHOULD BE GIVEN BEFORE TAKING THIS MED!!!"

"Usual dose is 20 mg/day, but for H. pylori, I was given antibiotics plus omeprazole 40 mg twice a day for 10 days. My stomach pain was gone after two days. After seven days, I had to stop taking it due to lightheadedness, dizziness, anxiety, and nervousness, which started at day five. At day eight, the doctor changed me to pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day for three more days. The symptoms are the same but just less severe. I called out sick from work yesterday, day nine. I am just suffering it out as I want to be rid of the H. pylori. After I’m done with the 10 days, I will never take another drug in this family of PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors) again."

"I was given omeprazole and metronidazole and clarithromycin. I was told to take the two together and leave a 2-hour gap to take omeprazole. I have never been so bad in my life. I have dizziness, weakness, body aches, and tremors. I rang 111, they told me to stop the antibiotics and to phone the GP on Monday to get a different course of antibiotics because I got Helicobacter. I only found out Friday what was wrong with me after suffering with stomach pains for a while and loss of appetite. Felt sick for the GP to tell me I have IBS. But then to find out I have Helicobacter, I am worried to stop taking the antibiotic as I don’t want the infection getting worse, even though 111 told me to stop. I’m a little concerned about what to do. But whoever has had this, I agree it’s a horrible combination."
