Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I trialed Metoprolol, Diltiazem, and Coreg prior to Bystolic (for treatment of PSVT, atrial tachycardia, PAC's/PVC's). Metoprolol made me ill, Diltiazem was ineffective and caused me to hear my heartbeat all day and night long, and Coreg was great at lowering my HR but inefficient at preventing my palpitations and SVT events. I've been on Bystolic (lowest possible dosage) for 2-3 months and my palpitations/events have drastically been reduced. My HR has gone from 115 resting to about 90, which I am so thankful for. I was hesitant to take this medication because of other patients' reports of headaches, but I take mine before bed and have had no issues. I can't say that I've had any side effects, to be honest. I'm really impressed with this drug. It's given me back a bit of normalcy in my life."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Took Bystolic 5 mg for a year. Episodes short of breath while exercising. Progressively tired with no energy. A general feeling of unwellness. To top it off, each month, it controlled my BP less and less. And I gained 30 lbs. Never had any of these issues before! Switched to Atenolol 25 mg. Still tired, but the feeling of unwellness is gone. No more breathing issues while exercising. BP is controlled well. However, my hair is starting to thin (never had hair issues before). My plan is to stay on Atenolol for now, force myself to start exercising again, tired or not, lose the weight, and start natural supplements to lower BP. Hopefully, once I lose weight and exercise more, I can get off the nightmare BP meds. I want my life back again. :("

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I was taking carvedilol 3.125 mg bid, and it stopped working shortly after starting a stressful job and a death in my family. I wasn't able to get it under control, so my cardiologist started me on Bystolic 10 mg qd. I was pleased with its quick results, bringing my BP down to the normal range. Now I have realized that I am tired all the time, I have no sex drive, and I don't really care about much of anything. I can sleep all day on my days off. I have gained 30 lbs over the last year! I got my old rx filled today for the carvedilol, and along with diet and exercise, I'm hoping to get back to my old self again. I can't deal with the fatigue anymore. Not to mention the price of $60 per month."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Put on Bystolic for HBP. Did not help at all. Nauseated, dizzy, pressure in neck and head, upset stomach, heart flutters. Had to stay in bed for 3 days. Thought I was going to have a heart attack or stroke. Still trying to get it out of my system after 4 days. Slightly better but still nauseated and heart still flutters."

For High Blood Pressure "I was put on nebivolol while in the hospital with COVID for four days back in December 2022, as well as the requisite blood thinners. Once I finished the 3 months of blood thinners, I saw my doctor, and she recommended I continue with the BP meds indefinitely because of my age. This was before I found this page and other people's experiences. For months, I had been having insane dreams, anxiety, a lack of desire, and an overall struggle with negative, catastrophic thoughts. Well, 2 weeks ago, I read the comments here, so I bought a BP monitor and began tracking mine several times a day. Then I forgot to take my pill one day and didn't notice till late the next night, 36 hours later. I checked my pressure, and it was the same as before and has stayed that way. What else I noticed was the lack of anxiety and stress. I was going to wean off of it for a week of half doses, so I took half a pill yesterday, what a disaster, the anxiety and negative thoughts came rushing back. My readings are 115/75, 55 bpm."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 44-year-old female. My doctor put me on Bystolic in February 2010. I read all the reviews and was nervous about some of the side effects, such as weight gain. However, I have found that I love this medicine! It has been very effective in lowering my blood pressure! The only thing now is that I am now so physically fit aerobically from increasing my exercise regimen that now my blood pressure and pulse rate seem to be pretty low. (Sometimes in the 109/65 range and upper 40s to high 50s range heart rate) that I think my dosage might need to be reduced. Also, there is a profound calming effect with this medicine. I encourage anyone to try it!"

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I understand this medicine is relatively new and very expensive. Not covered in some cases. While I have been on it only 3 weeks, I experience insomnia. Have to take Tylenol PM. Feeling cold all the time. Cramps have increased in legs, knees, and hands, mostly at night. Unable to walk as much without muscle pains. Take 5 mg daily. Hope this helps."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I found that I was able to lose weight while I was using this drug. I found that only 5 mg was plenty for me. I have had two heart attacks, the first they put in a coated stent, and 18 months later I had my second with a blood clot in the stent. I like taking this drug."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "25 years old, sensitive to most medicines, and this was another one on the blacklist. Headaches occasionally, insomnia, loss of sexual desire, heart palpitations, depression, dizzy when standing up or squatting down, tired when sitting down, and short-term memory was terrible."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I have been on Bystolic for two months. I was previously on metoprolol and had to discontinue due to the shortage. My blood pressure immediately stabilized while on Bystolic and is running now in the 120/80 range, which has not been in 10 years. I experienced some dizziness the first couple of weeks, but that has gone now. My PVCs are controlled but slightly more than on metoprolol. The most significant thing is that headaches and eye twitching I was having disappeared within two days of being off metoprolol and on Bystolic. I never realized they were being caused by the metoprolol. I have also switched from Naprosyn to Advil. While contraindicated with a beta blocker, I could not do without an anti-inflammatory - Advil had less negative effects on blood pressure."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I have had high blood pressure for years and take all the types of medications for it. One appointment a couple of years ago, I complained to my doc about feeling very weak sometimes, so he prescribed Bystolic, and it does wonders, gets me back on my feet."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I took Bystolic for about 7 months, but had to discontinue because of side effects. One of the many side effects I suffered was severe anxiety. I was only able to take 2.5 mg, and my blood pressure was not controlled."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 22-year-old male. Parents and grandparents both had high blood pressure and passed it right on to me. I have been taking Bystolic for about a year now and had excellent blood pressure. HOWEVER, I am extremely tired all of the time. If I do not get at least 9 hours of sleep, I am tired through the day. Before I started taking it, I was fine on 7 hours of sleep. I even have to take naps sometimes because I just can't stay awake. I have chest pain about once a week that lasts for an hour or so. Doesn't hurt, but very uncomfortable. Also, I have gained about 25 pounds in the past year. Blood pressure is good, but side effects are rough."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "This drug had some weird effects for me. I'm 21 and was on 5 mg for one year. I felt tired a good amount of the time, but I tried to remain active and exercise. When I did exercise, my endurance was great. I went from running 15 minutes a few times a week before this drug to running 45-50 minutes 4-5 times a week, and I never really wore out. I think it was because it increased nitric oxide bioavailability. I just never wore out during exercise, but always felt like I could take a nap. Just weird. Also had the vivid dreams and made me apathetic. Just not something I wanted to be on long term."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I'm a 48-year-old female with hypertension in the 160/95 - 190/100 range. I am sensitive to a lot of medicines. The 5 mg of Bystolic fluctuated my blood pressure from 113/60 to 190/100, and it was never constant. My heart rate also slowed to 42. I had to pretty much drop my exercise routine due to the unpredictability. I also had bouts of confusion, generally feeling removed from the things around, almost a surreal feeling. After almost 3 weeks of it, I am going off of it. I can barely function in my job. I was switched to Tekturna today and hope that the side effects are reduced and that I can function clear-headed again. It may be great for others, but not for me."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Didn't reduce my pressure the way I wanted, usually between 130/80 to 140/90. Was good for my rapid heart rate and usually brought my diastolic rate down. Unfortunately, I became tired a lot, which I cured by taking good vitamins from GNC. It calmed me from occasional anxiety. It made me sleep well, and I stopped having headaches. Unfortunately, I had acne, which I have never had in my life, labored breathing, some hair loss, blurred vision, and I became very anxious after six months of being on the drug, which made my pressure escalate. I have switched medication now, and my doctor is weaning me off slowly. I have gone from 10 mg to 2.5 mg. It's a great drug if it works for you, but it is not for everyone, and the side effects vary."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I was placed on Bystolic and Flecainade to control atrial flutter. It took three weeks for this combination to work, but it did, and my heart rhythms became stable and stayed that way. I later had an ablation, which cured my atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation. I experienced several of the common side effects: low libido, near impotence, and chronic diarrhea, which has resisted all efforts to correct. Recently, I decided to discontinue it and did so. Pulse went from 70 to mid-80's and blood pressure crept up, so did a taper per the literature. After being off it for a week, pulse rates as high as low 90s, blood pressure going up daily to 140's. Have started taking it again. This medicine is quite difficult to get off. Keep this in mind when considering whether to take it."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 50-year-old male. I did not have a heart attack but did get three drug-coated stents. Since I started taking Bystolic, there has been a big improvement in my life. Blood pressure was controlled, and I do not need a nap at 4 PM every day. Thank you, Bystolic."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I have been on Bystolic 2.5 mg for about 5 years. I read a previous comment about becoming depressed after starting on this drug. I too suffer from depression and have also gotten to the point where no one and nothing interests me. For about 3 weeks now, my blood pressure has been all over the place, and I increased my dose to 2 pills a day. I still wake up with high blood pressure. I am going to a cardiologist to change my medication and hopefully finally get out of this slump I have been in for way too many years. Btw, I also suffer from bad migraines, which, according to my doctor, were supposed to be minimized with Bystolic. They have actually gotten worse over the years."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Was put on Bystolic for high blood pressure induced by stress. This is a horrible medication. I was only on 12.5 mg once a day, and side effects were intolerable. Extreme flushing and feeling of anxiety...stomach pain. My blood pressure actually spiked after taking this medication. Also caused bad insomnia. I was in bed awake until 4 a.m. for 3 nights in a row when I finally decided to go to my doctor and got switched to another medication. Seems doctors are always trying to push the new and latest version of drugs, just to report back to the drug companies. Will never take it again."

Nebivolol for Mitral Valve Prolapse "41 yr old Caucasian female. 115 lbs/5'. No negative medical history other than mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation. Horrid chest pains and no energy. I can't recall the 1st drug - caused numbness in hands and feet - tingling and cold feelings were horrible. Also caused extreme tiredness; mixed with the fatigue from the regurgitation made me a rag doll. BYSTOLIC CHANGED MY LIFE. Started me at 10 mg - lasted 10 months; now on 20 mg for the last 5 months. Pain creeps in faster as I am sure the valve isn't getting any 'better'. Time will bring about the need to change it, and my doctor is waiting for Cleveland Clinic to open up new non-intrusive surgeries to patients who do not have life-threatening MVP issues. Side effects are minimal, and I HAVE MY LIFE BACK."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Just started Bystolic 5mg. My fluttering is not well controlled, but then I have not taken it regularly. When I first started taking it in the morning, it made me sleepy and listless all day - I'm a cop, and that did not work for me. Now I take it after lunch, and that seems to help (my decision - did not consult the doc). I seem to have rapid heartbeat incidents right after taking it and sometimes when laying down at night. Since it's new, I will give it time - tried Lisinopril, but it made me cough - for quite a while AFTER I stopped taking it. BP seems ok, so I will stick with it until the next doctor visit."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Bystolic seemed to work pretty well for my blood pressure. Oddly enough, it helps keep my heart rate in check (I have severe anxiety). It seems to slightly reduce my panic attacks as well. As for sexual side effects, I have no clue, I am 55 years old and do not do it as often as I used to."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "Was on Inderal for some 25 years, then switched (because of insurance reasons) to different (cheaper) high blood pressure medicines. After several attempts at these newer medicines, had to return to Inderal. For some reason, Inderal stopped working for me. Doctor switched me to Bystolic. WONDER DRUG! I no longer have palpitations, blood pressure is 120/70, no more nausea, no more dizziness, no more fatigue. Truly a wonder drug, at least for me. ONLY drawback, it's expensive. But what price for feeling good and healthy again."

Nebivolol for High Blood Pressure "I am a 43-year-old male. I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure 190/104. My doctor started me on 5 mg per day for the first month. Raised it to 10 mg per day in the 2nd month and 20 mg per day in the 3rd month. Recently, I started having random and uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. I am also tired all the time with low energy levels. I am an electrical contractor. Before I started taking this medicine, I was a high-energy, multitasker. Now, although my blood pressure is under control, I am tired most of the time, and at times I can't seem to think clearly enough to perform the complex logical tasks that my job requires. The diarrhea is sometimes uncontrollable."
