For Bacterial Vaginosis "This is the 2nd time taking this medication. 1st time was for bacterial vaginitis, I got really sick. Thrush in mouth, metal taste, headache, backache. I had to quit after 5 days. I was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis and prescribed it again. I almost cried and begged the doctor for a different pill, which I was told this is the only medication. However, this time I found a way to not make me sick. I coat the pill with honey and take it. This time I have had no side effects other than the beginning stages of oral thrush, which the doctor prescribed liquid nystatin for just in case. I also take a probiotic."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So I have suffered from BV for a couple of years now - without even knowing! I have noticed over the last few years that my scent had gotten really strong, and I automatically thought it was normal, but I was very, very self-conscious of it! I finally started googling it, and lo and behold... BV showed up everywhere! For me, it was strictly scent, I had no other symptoms. I am married with 2 children and only have sex with my husband. I finally went to the doctor, and within a day of 500 mg x 2 daily, I noticed a HUGE difference, and it feels wonderful. However, I absolutely hate the side effects of this drug. Oh, so tired the third day in (slept all afternoon), the nauseousness and metallic taste in my mouth is incredible, but I would take it again!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed metro after noticing a pungent smell coming from my lady area, which was a symptom of BV. I was instructed 2 times a day, morning and night, for 7 days. On day 3, the smell was completely gone, but I'm still doing the full 7 so I don't risk the symptoms returning. I eat a meal before each pill and wait 10 minutes for the food to settle before taking the pill, and I haven't had any headaches, nausea, or blurry vision some people have experienced. The downside is that the drug kills bad as well as the good bacteria, so there's a risk of a yeast infection, so I've been eating yogurt daily to try and prevent that. So far, I am happy with the results, and I'm on day 5. The downside of the pill is the metallic aftertaste, which is really strong."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this drug exactly as directed. Twice a day with a meal... yada yada... you already know how it goes. I didn't have any symptoms other than a metallic taste in my mouth... however, this did not clear up my BV at all. My odor and discharge weren't bad to begin with, I've just been very itchy and very sore after sex down there. (I've been tested for everything, only one partner, he's clean and been tested too. NO STDs. Only BV) still very itchy. Nothing is working, and I'm beginning to become desperate for a cure :("

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The side effects from this drug are awful. It makes me feel sick to my stomach, I have constant headaches, a loss of appetite, a metallic taste in my mouth (the medicine itself tastes disgusting and is chalky), makes my pee very dark, almost a brown color, and makes me feel very weak and weird. However, despite all of the harsh side effects, this drug does work. This is my third time getting BV, and each time this drug has made it go away after 3-4 days. This drug sucks, but I would rather deal with the side effects than a smelly/icky vagina."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I had BV and was prescribed this medicine. I took 2 pills daily for 7 days. The first couple of days were fine. Within the first two days, the odor and discharge went away, but my doctor told me that even if it goes away, you have to take all the pills. The last 3 days were annoying for me. I had a metal taste in my mouth, which was disgusting, and I experienced some nausea. It wasn't all that bad, but I was ready to be done with the pills. I recommend taking the pills with tons of food and water. Also, please don't drink alcohol or take drugs while using this."

For Amebiasis "This drug does what it is supposed to do, but at what cost. I was prescribed this drug for amebiasis. It gave me: 1. extreme nausea 2. headaches 3. diarrhea 4. metallic taste 5. general weakness 6. hairy tongue 7. fast heartbeat 8. breathlessness 9. pounding temples. In general, this drug made my life awful. Next time, I will ask for alternative drugs. Even after I finished the dose, I still suffered from side effects four days later. It is just not worth it."

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking this drug last Tuesday for a possible gastrointestinal bacterial infection. When I started taking it, I was suffering from diarrhea, which then became bloody diarrhea. Once I started taking the medication, the bloody diarrhea stopped, but I continue to have loose movements, nausea, and sporadic bouts of diarrhea. One of the things I can't stand about this drug is the sharp, overwhelming metallic taste. This medication should be coated to make taking it easier."

For Giardiasis "I am in the middle of a 5-day, 3x250 mg treatment for giardiasis. I don't know yet if I have gotten rid of the bugs for good, but metronidazole has been a lifesaver for me so far, as my stomach cramps used to keep me awake at night. I also want to thank my doctor for listening to me and having me tested for parasites, even though she did not think that it would be useful! I did have a headache on the first day, and I still feel the metallic taste in my mouth, but I will take that any day compared to what I was going through before taking the medication (I am taking a relatively low dosage, though, which may explain why the side effects are mild)."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm a 40 y/o and have been a pharmacy technician for 16 years. I have taken metronidazole 500 mg twice a day x 7 to 14 days at least 20 times with absolutely no issues. I switched to Cleocin for BV a few years ago, knowing you can't drink alcohol with Flagyl. I started taking Flagyl 500 mg twice a day x 7 days this week. This medication definitely has been reformulated! I have been taking it with food and I feel a little icky, I used to take it on an empty stomach. Every day, I have the metallic aftertaste, and it's awful, which lasts for about 1 hour afterwards. Today, I took my AM dose on an empty stomach, worst mistake! I have a splitting headache, stomach bloating/pain, no appetite, constipation, and fatigue, so horrible. I am not sure if it's this specific brand, mine is Unichem, but there are a lot of negative reviews. This antibiotic is serious with its side effects, but it's effective for infection."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "After being prescribed these for a pelvic infection, I was worried about potential side effects. I have been taking them twice a day for just over a week now, but haven't had any sickness or nausea, I am happy to report. I have, however, noticed a metallic taste in my mouth, a bit of a numb tongue, change in taste, and the first few days I felt a tad dizzy, like I was recovering from a hangover. I have also noticed an increase in my fluid intake and bowel movements, although nothing unpleasant."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Metronidazole does the job. I just wish the side effects weren't so severe: metallic taste in mouth, headache, nausea, mood swings, and just drained (physically exhausted). Still got 2 more doses to go."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "It's my third time using the metrogel for 5 days, and I always get a metallic taste as the only side effect, but this third time I had little to no appetite, felt dizzy, and my face was itchy. But this medicine works fast, the smell and discharge are gone on the second day."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Went to the doctor... realized I had BV... asked the doctor for cream Flagyl, but I was prescribed the pills instead. I eat ice usually every day and drink only water... since the pills, I have had this metal taste and water especially doesn't taste right... tastes like lead or something... food everything... how long does it take for this taste to go away?"

For Bacterial Infection "If possible, try to request a different medication for BV!!! It cures the problem, but at what cost? I’m on day 6 out of 7 of this medication, and it tastes horrible, makes me incredibly nauseous, makes it hard to sleep, leaves a nasty metallic taste in my mouth, and has overall been a horrible experience. The fatigue has been really bad too, I feel like I constantly have to take naps (which sleeping seems to make the nausea worse, so I wish I could avoid them), and I’m still feeling like a walking zombie all day. Please save yourself the trouble and ask for a different medication!!!!"

For Giardiasis "I was on 250 mg 3x a day for 10 days. It cured my Giardia, but made me very nauseous. My doctor had to give me antinausea medication (Zofran), just so I could keep the pill down. I also experienced a bad metal taste in my mouth for the duration of the treatment."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had a good experience on this drug. I only had two side effects: dry mouth, metallic taste, and dark urine. But I did feel a bit nauseous for my very first pill. My reason for taking this medicine was cleared in 3 days, but I took it for the complete 7 days, as instructed by my doctor."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Right there with everyone else, BV infection. Flagyl 500 twice daily. So happy done with this medicine. I took it for 7 days. I hate this drug!! Headache, metal taste, cramping, and dark urine. I started feeling better symptom-wise on day 5. By day 7, I felt good except for all the side effects. I'm two days off, and the burning, itching are back. I'm calling my ob/gyn today. I'm so afraid she's going to want to put me back on it!!!"

For Bacterial Infection "Doctors need to discuss side effects of this medication in detail before letting someone go home with it. I was prescribed a 7-day treatment, twice daily 500 mg tablets. Day 1-5... Definitely felt very tired and almost high, like I was on drugs. Somehow I continued to work every day. Increase in urination as well as the metal taste. Day 6-7 were the worst. I got the worst case of hives all over my entire body. Raised little red bumps. I wasn't too nauseous throughout the entire process because I made sure to eat bread or crackers before and after taking each pill. Also, my hair started falling out more than normal. The withdrawals were horrific. Felt like I had the flu and couldn't get out of bed for a day. It's day 9, and things are better."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I rated this medicine a 6 because I can't say it worked. I am not saying it didn't, but I never had itching or a really foul smell with BV, so if it went away (which I'm sure it did since I just took my last dose), I didn't notice a big difference. Now the side effects are really noticeable. I have never been sensitive with medication side effects, but I seemed to have gotten a lot of the 'rare' symptoms: dark urine, metallic taste, different kind of discharge (no smell), fast or skipping heartbeat, dizziness, a little disoriented (light-headed), nausea, and tired. I would not like to take this medicine again. Was prescribed 2x day for 7 days, 500 mg."

For Giardiasis "I had an intestinal parasite after a trip to Central America. I had a very difficult time with this drug. I'm a healthy, 40-year-old woman, and the side effects lasted for the 5 days I was on this pill. I was taking 750 mg every 8 hours for 10 days. I called my doctor and had to stop after 5 days. Severe headaches, nausea, weakness, fatigue. I couldn't work and had to rest all day. A metallic taste as well. I would not take this drug again, I would ask for another treatment. It's an aggressive drug that was difficult to tolerate."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I'm on day 3 and haven't had any crazy side effects. I've had a metallic taste in my mouth (which is nasty. DO NOT let it sit on your tongue too long - yuck!). Other than that, no concerns. Oh! I may have a slight increase in my appetite, but I'm okay with that. Love eating! Good luck :)"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine has surely taught me how to take a pill without letting it touch my mouth. However, I still cannot escape the awful taste in my mouth all the time, kind of metallic like. I've also found it's a must to eat when taking medicine, when I don't eat, it comes right back, and I have to throw up. With food, it feels like I'm on a laxative, as often as I have to poop, not diarrhea though, luckily. Also, I'm pretty nauseous 70% of the day while on this pill. I said all of that to say taking this medicine has been the worst experience I've had with an antibiotic. On the flip side, I'm on day three and no longer have symptoms of BV. This is my second time taking this year, each time 500 mg 2x for 7 days."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I just got off the medicine after a 10-day treatment for C. diff that I got after a week in the hospital. Here's a hint. Ask for it in liquid form. I took it three times a day, and the liquid goes down easy and doesn't taste bad at all. I have been off it for 4 days, and I still have the metallic taste in my mouth. Will be glad when that goes away."
