Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Just finished taking a week’s worth of Flagyl, twice a day. It’s brutal, but your body will adjust. It helped me to sip ginger tea when nauseous and to eat a small meal and drink a full glass of water when I take it. As a nurse, I just want to remind people that even if this drug is wrecking your body, always consult your doctor before stopping treatment. If you only take 4/5 days and are prescribed 7, the bacteria left in your body will have time to develop an immunity to meds, and your infection will rebuild and turn into a superinfection and the antibiotics won’t work next time. There is a reason antibiotics are given over prescribed amounts of time, and stopping them before completion is going to bring on something much worse than side effects. Trust me, I wanted to die taking this medication - many sleepless nights and bad side effects - but an antibiotic-resistant infection is much worse than one week of side effects. If you absolutely have to, call your doctor first. Good luck!"

For Dental Abscess "After reading some of these comments, I really did not want to take this medication. However, after taking it, my abscess and swollen face has almost cleared, and I am out of pain. I took this alongside amoxicillin, and it has worked absolute wonders with absolutely no side effects whatsoever. Some people may react differently, however. But it was an absolute lifesaver for me, it’s the first time I’ve ever had an abscess, and the pain was horrendous. Kind regards, Maria."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Went in for my Pap smear and found out I had BV. I was prescribed Flagyl (1 tablet 2x a day). The first day I only took one pill during my lunch break but forgot to take the second that night. The next day I took two pills as prescribed (morning and night). The following morning I noticed dark urine... allegedly that's a 'rare' side effect. I’ve also experienced dry mouth, a metallic aftertaste, headaches, and loss of appetite. Other than that, I do see an improvement already. I’m glad these pills work quickly, just hoping I won’t have to take it ever again after the 7th day."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Taking the antibiotic combo metronidazole and Cipro for a flare-up of diverticulitis and now on day 4. My side effects are that I feel so dreadful, very weak, no appetite at all, dizzy, nauseated, night sweats, vaginal discharge, diarrhea, and I have lost 7 lbs already. Forcing small bits of food down as I have to eat something, drinking lots of water, feel nauseated. I am in the UK. This medicine is utterly brutal and toxic, but my pain is nearly gone. Longing for day 7 to end the drama."

For Dental Abscess "I have used metronidazole many times now, most recently for a tooth abscess, and I have always been perfectly fine with no side effects whatsoever. After the first 24 hours of taking metronidazole, my pain was already considerably less, it really works, so please don’t be scared to take it if you haven’t before, as not everyone will experience bad side effects. Take this medication after a meal and a full glass of water. I also make sure I stay hydrated and eat well while on it."

For Bacterial Infection "With all the negative reviews, I felt compelled to share my positive experience. After suffering horrendously from a tooth abscess for an entire month with 2 rounds of Amoxicillin, my dentist prescribed me a Metronidazole dose of 400 mg, 3 times per day, for 5 days. The first day, I felt very tired taking this medication. Mornings were the worst as I felt like I had been hit by a truck-very blah, tired, groggy. I hesitated taking this medicine for the first couple of days because of this, but I powered through and still took my prescribed doses. I never had any stomach problems, headaches, or any other side effects. Then, on the 3rd day, I woke up and my pain was almost completely gone, and the swelling was significantly down. This medication is no joke. A week later, my abscess is completely gone now. It may make you feel strange, tired, hungover, but it absolutely worked for me. I will gladly trade the feeling of being groggy over the pain of an abscess any day! I recommend giving it a try!"

For Trichomoniasis "Literally have taken every medication to clear trichomoniasis and it’s not going away, reading the comments I’m glad I’m not the only person going through this. Been trying to consider natural remedies and boosting my immune system to help fight trich off. You aren’t alone, ladies. I know it’s hard, but we will all get through this!"

For Bacterial Infection "I recently had my gallbladder removed a week ago. Woke up 3 days later with blood pouring out of me at the other end. Went to the ER where they did a CT scan and showed colitis. The doctor put me on Flagyl and Cipro for 10 days. Woke up today, 5 days later, with horrible nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I am extremely dehydrated and feel horrible. I literally feel the worst possible. Does anyone else feel bad and weak on these meds?"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I cover my pill with peanut butter completely & then take it. That nasty taste doesn't get in your mouth. If I don't do that then I feel like I'm going to spit it right back up. Just thought I would share that."

For Trichomoniasis "I have trich and I was put on the 4 pills at once of 500mg. I took it Thursday at noon. I was fine. I have to say the taste is not the best. Put it way back on your tongue, drink water, and swallow. Don't start smacking your tongue around, that's what makes you taste it. So I took it, went to work, and around 9 I got nauseous. It came and went. At 11:30 at night, I was very nauseous, I just went to sleep. The next day I noticed a lot less itch and burn. Absolutely no more nausea. Today, Saturday is day two, I feel good. Again, I'm not 100% clear because occasionally I feel a little itch, but I like this pill. Also, on day one on the pill, I had a one-time heavy discharge. It was like the infection came out. For those who ask, if you get the one-time four pills of 500mg, you must take all four at once. Trust me, you'll be okay."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Was given this for diverticulitis and after day 3 of taking woke up in a cold sweat, hair soaking wet and feeling faint. Slurred speech and overall feeling of dying! Went back to ER and they said it was side effect of this medication. They told me to continue no matter what, told them I'd rather die and threw the medication away. I'm still alive and doing well without this nasty medicine!"

For Diverticulitis "I have had my first bout of diverticulitis. I was prescribed Flagyl and Cipro. The first day I took them together, I got a massive headache and felt awful. On the second day, I did this: Cipro at 6 a.m. on an empty stomach with 500 ml of water. I had coffee an hour later. At 8 a.m., I took Flagyl with a glass of milk (I can't take Cipro with milk because it has calcium, but you can take Flagyl with milk) or applesauce. I have no bad taste with milk. Then I repeated this at 6 p.m. with Cipro and 500 ml of water, and at 8 p.m. with Flagyl and milk, and that's it. I get no headache, no nausea, no vomiting, nothing, and I am slowly getting better. I think taking Cipro and Flagyl together causes a reaction and gut issues, so it is best to separate them out, let them work separately, and not mix the medications together. Also, Flagyl is an antiparasitic, so it might be causing a bit of Herxheimer reaction after a few days."

For Diverticulitis "Diagnosed with diverticulitis and put on Cipro and Flagyl. Today is Day #10, hallelujah! I had diverticulitis flare-ups 4 and 5 years ago. I forgot how sick these drugs make me. I can’t keep food down, nauseous 24 hours a day except when I take Zofran, upper stomach pains, reflux, heartburn, dizziness, listless, and spend most of my day sleeping. This came at the most inopportune time, I just had major knee surgery two weeks before the attack, which has hindered my healing process as I can’t get up to proceed with physical therapy, it’s too nauseating to move around. If I ever get another attack, I will never take these drugs again. There has to be a better way! I want my life back."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed the 2000mg one-time dosage. Yes, the pills have a horrible taste, but I'd rather taste that than have the symptoms of trich! I've taken the same meds for BV before and usually end up pretty tired after about 2 hours or so. I took this about 12 hours after a night of heavy drinking. Have felt a little nauseous and had loose stools and a little headache. But it's been 3 hours since I've taken it, and the odor is weaker, and the discharge has dramatically decreased! Bye-bye trich and bye-bye cheating boyfriend that gave it to me!"

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Took Flagyl and Cipro together - felt worse than I did before - all the side effects everyone is mentioning. However, the alternative - raging infection - not really an option. Taking my diet seriously moving forward."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I almost think it’s better for people to read this if they also had a bad reaction and don’t want to feel so alone because I have heard of this working really well for some people, as with any drug. It seems to me that if you do have a bad experience with this, it isn’t mild, but extreme, as was the case for me. I don’t do well on many antibiotics, but this one was in a class of its own for me. It took me over three months to feel somewhat normal again. It went from bad hives to feeling like my joints were trying to leave my body, to feeling incredibly dizzy and nauseous, to stomach pain. It sounds dramatic, but I have never felt worse on any antibiotic. What it was prescribed for was so much easier to handle than the side effects of this train wreck. Every inch of my body felt off on this medicine. Even mentally, it gave me anxiety. The only antibiotic that came close to this one as far as feeling horrible is Cipro."

Metronidazole for Dental Abscess "This medication could have saved my life! I had a root canal gone awry. The emergency dentist prescribed Clindamycin and Flagyl stat. Could not take the Flagyl as I had swallowed Listerine (has alcohol in it). The next morning an Endodontist redid the root canal, and he said to take the Clindamycin only. Two days - and a LOT more pain and swelling later - I found myself at night with enormous swelling spreading to my upper mouth with more throbbing pain. With nothing to lose, I took one dose (500mg) of Flagyl. Within 2 hours I felt no pain - it was like someone took water out of a balloon. Thank goodness, I believe I had an odd bacterial infection. I'll take both antibiotics for the duration. No alcohol on Flagyl - bad side effects!"

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I'm a 36-year-old active female diagnosed with diverticulitis. I took the combo of meds and am on day 7 now. I work out 6 days a week and have had to modify my workouts and weight lifting because I feel absolutely drained, weak, and muscles ache. (This, of course, was advised against by both doctor and pharmacist but alas, I am a knucklehead.) I have the metallic taste as well in addition to nausea with the meds. However, I would prefer these side effects to the pain associated with diverticulitis."

For Diverticulitis "My doctor prescribed metronidazole and Cipro for diverticulitis. I have been taking them for 9 days and have been extremely tired and fatigued, with bouts of diarrhea, and I basically head to the bathroom within a few minutes of eating anything. I am on a probiotic and eating Activia yogurt to help with the stomach issues. I also started having severe upper abdominal and back pain, which is a weird sensation. I did not know what was causing this, but I read on this site where a few other folks had the same problems. UGH!! I'm still having some very low tenderness in my lower colon area, but I think the constant bathroom trips are possibly causing this problem. I guess I should go back to the doctor, but do not want to. I'm really concerned about the upper abdominal and back pain. It is fairly constant and feels tender to the touch. Good luck out there, folks! Diverticulitis is no fun."

For Trichomoniasis "I had to take a one-time dose of 4 500mg capsules. About two hours after taking the dose, I noticed I was feeling extremely tired. I was driving and decided to make my way home, so I wouldn't recommend driving. About 4 hours after, I felt a lot of nausea and general flu-like symptoms. I felt like I needed to sleep but was unable to fall asleep. These symptoms were not unbearable. It's been 3 days since I've taken this medication, and I still have minor side effects lingering. I have been having great sleep, random nausea, vivid dreams, and random bouts of fatigue. ALL of my symptoms from trichomoniasis have disappeared, so I would recommend this medication."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "After several years of diverticulitis and some very severe attacks including bleeding, I gave in and medicated with Flagyl. I only took 200mg twice a day and my symptoms disappeared, relatively no side effects other than dry mouth. I was vigilant with diet and NO ALCOHOL! Feel great but worry about re-occurrence."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've had bacterial vaginitis on & off for many years and just got sick of treating it until a few days ago when I was struck with bad pelvic pain and pressure, ended up in ER and diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease which has caused an abscess on my left ovary. Turns out the Pelvic Inflammatory Disease has been caused by the untreated bacterial vaginitis over time. So please get treated every time you get symptoms. I'm on day 2 & have an ease of symptoms from the BV but get very nauseous and sick feeling after taking it. I'm also on a few others for the PID but it's definitely no fun. Don't ignore Bacterial Vaginitis."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I’m on day 4 of a 7-day treatment for BV (bacterial vaginitis) with Flagyl. I feel amazing. I was warned by my doctor and pharmacist of alcohol and side effects. On my 2nd pill, I did get abdominal pain and minimal diarrhea, but that was it. I expected it to continue, but so far I feel better than ever. I feel like it helped me in so many other ways than just BV treatment. I feel healthy and awake. All meds have side effects, some worse than others, and some experience more than others. My experience so far has been great."

For Dental Abscess "I've had a dental abscess on the lower left side for 1 1/2 weeks. Because of coronavirus, all dentists are closed, so a phone consultation was all I could have. I was prescribed a 5-day course of 500 mg amoxicillin, which started to clear it, but as soon as the meds were finished, the infection came back the following Sunday. On Monday (yesterday), I again spoke to the dentist, who prescribed another 5-day course of 500 mg amoxicillin. By the evening, the left side of my face was really swollen. I couldn't sleep, and this morning the swelling is huge and feels solid, like I have a tennis ball between my gum and cheek. I phoned the dentist again and spoke to a different dentist who has now prescribed metronidazole alongside amoxicillin. I've read the reviews, and most of them are describing how I feel now because of the infection, not because of the meds. I know everyone is different, but if you have a severe infection, the only thing you can do until dentists reopen is take the meds and pray the pain and swelling go away."
