For Amenorrhea "So let's talk about Provera. I was put on this for not having a period for 10 months. Just remember that during the time you don't have a period in most cases, your body is still producing that lining. I took it for a week (10mg a day) and got my period 3 days later. It is by far the worst period I've ever had. This is worse than any period I've had, even the ones I had directly after giving birth. I've bled through pads and tampons multiple times, and I'm only on day 4! I'm feeling nauseous, dizzy, and weak, normal daily functions are hard at this point. I also feel very angry and withdrawn to the point of where I just want to be by myself and sleep. Oh, not to mention the huge clots I've been passing. If this were considered a 'normal period,' I would have gone to the hospital by now. The cramps are horrendous also. I will say if you are trying to get your period, it does the job, just be prepared for one nightmarish period."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I took Provera 5 mg for abnormal uterine bleeding. Basically, my period went on for almost three weeks. I went to the hospital (had an ultrasound & everything was fine). They told me to take the pills for 7 days once a day. I took 2 a day for 3 days & the last pill on the 4th day. I'm a heavyset girl, so 10 mg wouldn’t have hurt me. The first day I took them, I took them in the morning & by the afternoon, the bleeding stopped. Throughout my taking the medication, I had no bleeding. Three days after the last pill was taken, my period came on. I just woke up one morning & I was spotting. By that night, I was bleeding very heavily. I wanna say the heaviest I have ever been, but most of it was blood clots. All sizes. That went on for about 5 days, then the 6th morning it almost instantly stopped. I was spotting very lightly & by that night it completely stopped. I’m a 20-year-old, by the way. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS or anything of the sort."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I bled for 3 months straight with blood clots that were as big as a strawberry. The doctor put me on Provera to stop my period, the dose was 2 pills a day for 30 days. It worked... Then the next month, I didn't bleed for 2 months. The doctor put me back on Provera to start my period for 10 days, and it worked again."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I started bleeding July 15, and it’s now Sep 14. I went to my doctor, they did an ultrasound, they said everything looked fine, blood work came back fine, and that sometimes it’s just the way it is, not knowing why I’m bleeding so much! Anyways, I threw a fit with the doctor, told her bleeding during intercourse and so much is not normal! She tried to tell me it was the positions we were doing, and I said no, I just want to know why. So she prescribed Provera 10 mgs, 1 tablet a day for 10 days. I am now on day 6, and the bleeding went from a little to so heavy I am changing my pads every hour! My cramps are unbearable, and there are so many blood clots! I just emailed my doctor to see what she says, fingers crossed that she can help give me answers!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on Provera 10 mg for about a month. I was initially diagnosed with uterine polyps and had a DNC done to remove the polyps, and my OBGYN prescribed Provera to stop the bleeding. It stopped for maybe 5 days but then started again and was way heavier with more clotting and cramping. My OBGYN, in turn, prescribed mefenamic acid in combination with the Provera, and it still hasn't stopped the bleeding. I've been bleeding heavily for almost 10 days now. I've started to see a slowing in the amount of blood, but it's not stopping altogether. It has been about 3 months of bleeding. Next step for me is a hysterectomy. I'm 34 years old and do not want to do that. I'm hoping this will work. It hasn't so far, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Thanks to everyone who shared. I’m 43, no history of menstrual irregularity. Missed a period in August, it arrived in early October, and I’ve bled since then. Very heavy with clots. To the point I struggle with working and can’t exercise. Pelvic ultrasound normal. Doc wants me to have a hysteroscopy. I’m terrified it’s something sinister. Reading all your stories has given me hope."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm a 31-year-old diagnosed with PCOS. I've been having irregular periods since the age of 15. They put me on birth control, which regulated them. Now, older, they are worried about my blood pressure and blood clots. The longest I've gone without a period is a year and a half. The last 3 months, I've had spotting every day. The doctor put me on Provera, 10 pills every 3 months. I got my period on the 4th day of taking the pills and am now dealing with debilitating cramps, heavy bleeding, and clotting bigger than quarter size. I bleed through a tampon and pad every hour. Had to leave work early today because I bled through my pants in a matter of 30 minutes. It's been like this for 3 days and is unbearable. When will it end?"

For Amenorrhea "During the ten days on Provera, I was emotional, my boobs hurt severely, my face broke out like crazy, and I had horrible fatigue. Two days after the 10 days of taking Provera, I have the worst period I have ever had in my entire life. Having to change my pad/tampon every single hour was disgusting, I couldn't even enjoy a shower because even afterward I still bled nonstop. Each day that passes, the heavier my period gets. Today is my 6th day, and 4, 5, & 6 were heavy as hell, but 5 & 6 had excruciating cramps. And too many blood clots! :( I do not recommend this pill at all."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had PCOS since I was a teen, very irregular periods, Dr. says I don't ovulate. High school sweetheart and I got married, and we want children. It's very difficult having PCOS. Dr. prescribed Provera to induce a period. She said it would shed the lining and would be like starting 'new.' Took 1 pill a day for 7 days. Took 3 days to start my period after the last pill. I do not recommend this pill to anyone. I've had severe bleeding for several days and large blood clots. I soak through at least 2 super plus tampons an hour. It leaks so bad through the tampon I have to also wear pads. Pads have rubbed me raw, and the heavy bleeding and constant changing of tampons have made me raw from the top of my vagina to my butthole. I'm very weak and dizzy."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My cycle has been on for over 3 months, so I went to the doctor. She prescribed Provera. The first day after starting the medication, I cramped (I'm not a cramper). The cramps stopped, but the bleeding never did. About two weeks on the pill, I started bleeding really heavily and passing too many clots, then I came to research. I wouldn't recommend this drug to anyone."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "The first time I took Provera, it worked great for 3-4 years and made me regular. I had gone to the ER for heavy bleeding and clotting. The second time I went to the ER was earlier this year (2015) for the same reason. Provera slowed it down, passed clots, and then I spotted here and there. Just recently, mid-July, I started having heavy bleeding again, and the docs couldn't give me answers as to why, but put me on Provera again. It didn't do anything this time. It slowed it down on Day 1-Day 3 on it, and then after, and especially when I finished Provera, I was bleeding very heavily. The doc said that's to be expected and have to wait it out and just wait for my ultrasound. I'm so sick of all this bleeding and even more so not getting any answers/treatment."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "This is my 3rd time taking this medication, Provera, for problem bleeding. The first time, it worked for like 4 days. After the 4th day, I couldn’t stop bleeding and had to go back to the ER. I was put on Provera again. This time, it didn’t work at all. Actually, when I took the last pill, the next day, I couldn’t stop bleeding. I had clots the size of grapefruits. I was so lightheaded I went to the ER, and I needed a blood transfusion. I was put on Provera again for the third time. See how they work for me this time. On my 3rd day taking them. I guess they work differently on everyone."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 56 years old. I have not had a period in 10 years. Last month I started again. Extremely heavy flow for 2 weeks. Had a vaginal ultrasound and found no signs of cancer. Yesterday I started again, today I started taking Provera. I am hoping it stops the bleeding. Heavy bleeding, cramps (front and lower back), and clots."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was put on Provera for abnormal bleeding due to uterine fibroids. It didn't help with the bleeding, only made it worse. I had clotting the size of a golf ball and bad cramping...was told by the nurse it can take up to 10 days for it to work, well, I was on it for 14 days and nothing changed."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I took Provera 10 mg pills at the beginning of August for 10 days. Like 3 days later, I started spotting. 4 days later, the spotting got a little heavy with clots but never the regular flow of the menstruation cycle. Long story short, I've been bleeding lightly for the past two weeks, and I’m beyond annoyed."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Well, I have been prescribed this medication before, and I have had to go through blood clots and heavy cramps. But this time it's even heavier cramps and blood clots, and using about 20 pads in 2 to 3 days. I feel so weak, and it feels gross to even move or go anywhere in public. I'm also taking ibuprofen every 3 to 4 hours. What do y'all prefer for taking for the pain? Thank you, everyone, for your input. Have a great day."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been bleeding profusely (clots, steady bleeding) for a year and a half - yes, 18 months! I have seen 2 different OB-GYNs. I am 46 and have fibroid tumors and ovarian cysts. Both doctors have used the 'try this and see' approach, and I have been given Provera, Depo shots, and Beyaz birth control. None of these have stopped the bleeding. After taking the Beyaz last December, my blood sugar level rose to 450, and it took a month to get it back to normal. Of course, now I am considered a diabetic and have to take Metformin every day despite the fact that I was not diabetic or prediabetic before then. It is ridiculous that these doctors will not consider a permanent treatment option!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm not sure if this medicine is to blame, but I figured I'd put it out there. I hadn't had a period in several months due to PCOS. Usually, I take progesterone, but something possessed my ob-gyn, and he prescribed this instead. This pill is not meant for smokers, the side effects for a smoker included heart attack and blood clots. Two days after starting this, I started hurting in my chest. Long story short, it took three hospitals in a week and a half to figure out I was having multiple heart attacks and an aneurysm, but nobody suspected it because 'I'm too young' and I've never had a history of heart problems. I've been in the hospital for four days now, still recovering and will continue to suffer because my heart is only pumping 35%."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 42 years old. I'm diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've been struggling with this for 20 years, right after I had my son. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I went to the doctor because I had constant bleeding, spotting, cramps, etc. The GYN made some tests, and I got polyps on the upper side of my uterus. I went for surgery and got them out. To reduce the bleeding, the doctor prescribed Provera. I took the pill as told, got my period after 7 days. The first days were fine, but the last 5 of them were heavy, with clots... It was horrible, but it helped me to stop the abnormal bleeding. Before the treatment, I was very depressed, just by not being able to leave the house without a pad was stressful. Now, I can have my life back!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 43 years old and clotting and bleeding now for 14 days. In 2008, I was diagnosed with PCOS. I haven't had a period for years, and then all of a sudden, out of the blue, I start to clot. Big, like golf balls. Didn't leave the home at all, sometimes the clot was so big it would come down my leg. The first time I went to the ER, I had a few tests done. I also had a vaginal ultrasound, they found 2 big fibroids. I was told a normal lining of the uterus is 2 mm, mine was 9 mm. I was given tranexamic acid, 500 mg, it stopped the clots. I only had it for 5 days. As soon as I was done, the clotting came back. Then I was put on Apo Medroxy 10 mg. So far, so good."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've had non-stop period for 37 days. Was put on ten days of Provera, slowed bleeding down. Finished meds, period became full-blown again. Went nine days, no relief, got back on meds for another ten days, day 6 seems to be slowing. Lo and behold, this afternoon full force bleeding, clots and all. I'm 62 years old, went two years with no periods, thought I was done but no, here we are worse than ever. I see OB/GYN on Monday, I pray for relief soon. Only pain is my right lower back will hurt, only in the afternoon, then it stops, I'm okay til the next afternoon. I took low oval pill from 21 to 52, hardly ever had a period, but surely making up for it now. I pray for all women going through this, get relief and fixed. I'm supposed to be done with this mess."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 31 and was diagnosed at 30 with PCOS, and until recently, I haven't had many issues with it. My periods were always irregular, so when I got them, it would be painful. On 09/08/15, I lost a pregnancy at 10 1/2 weeks. I have been seeing the same OB since I was 16, she had finally had enough knowing I badly wanted a baby. Well, since this loss to date 11/12/15, I have had a total of 12 days with no bleeding, so pretty much 3 months of severe heavy bleeding with clots. I went from having perfect iron levels to them being so low I'm on the verge of a blood transfusion. This week, I've upped my iron from 325 to 650 mg a day, and I am taking 10 mg of Provera every 8 hours. This is day two, and I'm happy to say I'm already seeing results. I hope it stays this way."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was put on this pill to help with the thickening part, and I was put on this pill Oct 14, and I have been on this period since last Friday, and it will stop and go again. Last Saturday it stopped, and then I woke up Sunday to go to my boyfriend's work. It starts up again, and I am still having a medium size of blood clots. I was supposed to stop on the 15, and I started on the 8th of this month. Just being a little annoyed with the period. Planning on talking to my OB-GYN next month when I see him. Explain it all to him and trying to figure another way out or having a way where I don't have periods."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been taking Provera for 7 days, and I am absolutely miserable. I was having some irregular bleeding, and this was prescribed to “help” the bleeding. I have been profusely bleeding since the day I started this medicine. I have massive clotting and cramps all day and all night. I am on my eighth pack of pads in a week. I think this medicine is experimental due to me no longer getting a response from my doctor regarding this issue. I have stopped taking it, and I am looking for a new doctor. I have been bleeding for months!!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on this med several times, I am 48 years old going through menopause and have had abnormal bleeding off and on for 2 years. From what I understand, 10 days on this med is not going to make you stop bleeding. What it does is 'clean' you out first before it thins the lining enough to stop the bleeding. When I take it, I bleed worse for a couple weeks, clots come out and then it stops and stays stopped so all the ladies taking it for 10 days give it more time, please. The cramps are bad during the 'cleaning' phase also but trust me it will get better."
